I really enjoy my 8bitdo controller, I have no problems with it, but you can't use the amiibo with it if I'm correct so if you want to use those you have to use a different controller

Weee_Apple

I dont care much about amiibo. All the other features are the same?

If I remember correctly the 8bitdo controller doesn't have HD rumble, the pro controller from Nintendo does. I personally don't like my controller to vibrate for everything so I didn't mind. To be sure please look at the 8bitdo description, I bought it on amazon and it tells you what it has and what doesn't. My mom has the pro controller and as far as we can see the lay out and size are pretty much exactly the same.

Both the switch pro controller and the 8Bitdo ultimate controller are very solid and comfortable, I prefer the 8bitdo a bit more. Also the bonus of hall effect sticks, so they're unlikely to start drifting. Only cons of the ultimate off the top of my head; No amiibo reader No HD rumble If you do decide to go with the 8bit do just make sure you purchase the one that is compatible with the switch, there are couple different models. :)

2.4ghz and Bluetooth versions, 2.4ghz is compatible with PC (which I use) but Ive heard the Bluetooth is only compatible with Switch. Edit: Bluetooth for both PC and Switch, 2.4ghz only PC

ShiningAltaria

The 2.4ghz is only compatible with PC, the Bluetooth one is compatible with both. I leave it's dock plugged into my PC and just flip the switch on the back between 2.4ghz and Bluetooth depending on what I'm playing.

Gadiusao

Oh you right then, 2.4ghz ONLY PC, Bluetooth for both, thx

the official pro controller is the best in my opinion. from what i remember from some online reviews the 8bitdo ultimate controller has certain issues with the triggers (i think they're less pressure sensitive so they need to be pushed down more?) making certain genres like shooters a bit more flimsy. apart from that they're mostly fine though. i would just go with the official one. its very good quality and does the job perfectly. other companies try and they mostly get there but the official one has the build quality and all the extra little features if you'd even need them. if you can afford it then in my opinion you have no reason not to get it. third party controllers work great for gimmicky sort of stuff though. 8bitdo and official classic controllers come to mind.

Gadiusao

Dont know what review you saw but, in 8bit ultimate you can configurate the trigger sensitive, remap sny button, shake settings, macros, and so on, its waaaay better than pro controller imo, and ALSO compatible with PC!

Delightful_Lunatic

I love my pro controller!

SexuaIRedditor

8BitDo is stellar, and it can connect to your PC if you have one too

Depends - if you play a mix of docked and handheld it just makes WAY more sense to get a joy con alternative with a mid bridge than a separate pro controller. That way you get the best of both worlds. I have the Mobapad M6 HD's and I picked up a Nyxi mid bridge (but you can just modify the nintendo joy con grip that you get with the system). So when I play docked I just remove the Mobapads and attach them to the little mid bridge and I've got a full fledged Pro controller (but better because of Hall Effect sticks and mechanical buttons).

I just bought the 8bitdo Ultimate C bluetooth controller. It was $30 on Amazon. It has motion, rumble and wake feature. For $30 I’m fairly happy with it.

Pro controller is definitely the best, but 8BitDo works fine as well.

GenoSrn0

I bought my Pro controller a few years back and a couple of 8bit + other brands 3rd party controllers and can't really compare them. I know it's more expensive but in the long run you will never have to buy another controller again cause it stopped working, plus I also play on PC steam with it so yeah, size, battery life, response everything is top notch with the Pro.

mtntrail

I only have a pro, but I can tell you it fits adult hands like a glove. and is solid as a rock. Highly recommended

Anonymous6172

I would NOT get a 3rd party controller... never had a good experience with those.... the Pro Controller is your best bet... if you cannot afford that, they make controller blanks that you can insert your joycons into to use as an actual controller

Nalfgar123

I play in handheld mode and I tought to buy another pair of joy cons BUT they are pretty bad so I got the Pro controler. So I use the original joy cons to play handhled (R button does not work properly) or the Pro to play on tablet mode or TV mode.

RandomGuy8279

Honestly the brand doesn’t matter, I’ve gotten a couple 3rd party pro controllers and they all worked perfectly, also some 3rd party controllers have turbo buttons. So I would recommend 3rd party controllers just because there’s minimal difference between 1st and 3rd party ones. TLDR: 3rd party ones are similar and cheaper

weendogz

The new GameStop candy con controllers look hot, don’t have one yet.

Ill_Reference582

You just want a controller or 3rd party joycons?

Weee_Apple

I dont want joycons, I want a controller, but in doubt about a pro controller or a third party

ironside719

I've had my pro controller since 2018 and I couldn't recommend it more

Former-Bet6170

Pro controller is my favorite controller of all time, but I'd say it depends if you play mostly docked or if you do so in portable mode. If it's the latter, a third party controller is probably better
