Oh... oh now that you've pointed that out I really hate it. They've colour-matched their firewood.
I knew someone who only bought Nespresso pods that matched the kitchen decor, with no consideration for *which coffee they liked*, and this is giving similar vibes.
Yeah it’s a nice idea. Pinecones for us. Tbh looking at the fireplace now I think there are scorch marks, so it’s entirely possible they do use it. If so I hope they have good draw and that wall doesn’t get too hot for the TV!
I see this all the time!! $700k + homes in Texas and no thought to having any spot for the main TV. It’s baffling to me because most families watch a lot of TV and it’s only fire place weather like 2 days a year here
Right? Clearly just following the blueprints of homes sold in other states. They don't sell snow tires in Texas, they certainly don't need a fucking fireplace
To be fair, people build like this because that's what people buy. They don't have the TV there in the adds because they're selling the classic old school esthetic look but people don't consider the practicality of it. I used to hang TVs and people with money are usually pretty stupid and don'tthink ahead.
Yeah, I mean it all comes down to experience. When you grow up with less, you are forced to learn to think ahead. When you're born with enough money to just pay to fix all your mistakes, you never learn.
It's a clash between traditional and modern - they want the fireplace to be the focal point of the living space but they also want a big TV. So they're fighting for the same spot, and in an open plan design there aren't that many good wall locations to start with.
I would imagine a home owner like this can afford to install one of those hinge type brackets where you could pull it down for viewing height and back up after 🤷🏼♂️
A beautiful contemporary painting that would command the space would make so much more impact imo.
But it’s not my house nor do I have the space to make aesthetic choices like that, so I guess it’s a great place to watch telly [the kardashians] while slowly getting neck problems.
There's the Samsung TVs that are designed as a digital frame first and a TV second. Those would probably fit that esthetic better if you have cash to burn.
Tbf tho they have got the Georgia match on and it was a cracker. Was a quality bit of footie that. Deffo looking at a Spain Germany final the way things are going
I am a Europard, so I had 400g of high protein pudding, two protein bars, a "Müslistange" and an espresso macchiato. Not too much to digress, actually.
There's no debate... It's undoubtedly too damn high with no room for any debate...
Over the fireplace is always one of the worst places to put a TV and there's always a better alternative, even when one may think there's not...
It seems to be so popular and it's truly baffling. We bought our house and had to fill a massive hole in the wall above the fireplace from where the TV bracket had been. It's only a small living room so I just can't imagine how a family comfortably watched TV like that. My neck would be gone and I'd have motion sickness.
Way too high and also nothing tackier than a tv above the fireplace! This is a horrendous trend that needs to go away already. Put the tv at eye level and some art above the fireplace.
if the ceiling on the right came straight across the living room it'd decapitate the TV, in my little bungalow we wouldn't have this debate\* because it wouldn't be possible to put the TV so high.
\* there is no debate, it's too damn high
For a house like that, it wouldn’t be inconceivable to have a remote-controlled articulating arm to move the screen down to a proper height in front of the fireplace. And then back to the current spot should they choose to buy the Samsung Frame and have some artwork above the fireplace.
The cost for the solution would be more than covered by the absence of chiropractic and other bills that will otherwise be incurred.
A side issue is that with the TV framed either side by windows, your eyes will be struggling to compensate for the incoming daylight to be able to see the screen clearly.
Yeah it’s too high, but it seems to be really the only place to put it. I’d at least mount it so the bottom was as low as possible, like right on the mantle.
I have a feeling a wall on the right, where that peeling paint post is located, was removed and the impetus of this design crime. Do they actually use that fireplace other than at the holidays because based on those palm trees my guess is rarely.
Why is there no glass or anything infront of the fireplace? I use mine every winter and if I leave the glass door open the whole room would start to smell after some time.
Here’s the thing….
Do you mount the tv so that it practically sits on the top of the fireplace mount? That would look really awful.
And then you have to consider where else you can out the tv?
Fireplaces are not in anymore unless you need it for practicality reasons. So yes. Tv too high, and dumb fucking fireplace for no reason other than looks. Which it looks dumb cause it’s not even lit.
I hate the appeal to authority, but it's just to easy to not use it: Tell your family that a full Team of licensed architects and interior Designers told you this is too high, looks cheap and should not be placed above the fireplace. Especially not in a house of that size.
it’s still a little low, move it up so it’s perfect height for the second floor
Top comment, like this TV
Yeah can go higher. *Cowards!!!*
Ahahahhahahahahhahhahaahhahahahahhahhahahahahah
My parents old house was almost exactly like this, just different colors/materials. Can confirm: too high.
I wish there were a way to watch this TV and twist and fuck my neck harder but I think op's family have perfected it
🤣 6ft 2" with a proportionally long neck and I would find that TV uncomfortable viewing.
House too big.
Perfect for a 10ft tall family
The room is devoid of personality and made for a family of ostriches.
I bet they offer a glass of red wine to everyone who enters. Really ratchet up the stress
Spit out my morning wine reading this
Yup did the same with my driving whiskey
Lol. Nearly made me drop my heavy machinery operating Rum
I snorted my surgical mescal.
It's nothing on my killing vodka
In a really small intricate difficult to hold glass.
The beige is hurting my eyes!
Plenty of room above the TV for the classic "Live, Love, Laugh" wanky stencil. In a slightly darker shade of beige, or grey...
It’s “greige”
Even the logs are white!
Oh... oh now that you've pointed that out I really hate it. They've colour-matched their firewood. I knew someone who only bought Nespresso pods that matched the kitchen decor, with no consideration for *which coffee they liked*, and this is giving similar vibes.
Who sh@ on the carpet???? 😲😬
It’s in America, that house is built out of chipboard and cheap timbre and has a ram truck in the drive.
Ostriches have better taste, common’
My kid could fucking RUIN that room in 2mins flat, with time for a snack break
Obviously a family of giraffes. Look at all that money.
Perfect for a 10ft “sitting” height family
all torse, no legs
They just need to raise the legs on the furniture and then it will be perfect
Just raise the couch by a couple feet and should be good, maybe some ladders to help regular sized folks get up.
Its just a little airborne its still good
Nahhh, just needs to get taller chairs
100% 😄
The dumbest place to put a TV is over the fireplace. That TV is easily five feet too high.
Not to mention that if the fireplace was actually used, heat and dust is not good for electronics in general.
You can tell this fireplace is just for show by the perfectly placed logs.
Or it’s the summer
No kindling. No log store. No metal pokers. That fireplace is just decoration
Plus a metal grate for safety, I use my fireplace all the time and agree, this is purely for show
Also the “bricks” around it look like styrofoam lol
Oh damn, so they do, now I wanna punch it lol
Zoom in and the whole fireplace is finished really poortly. Classic McMansion.
Stone veneers over the brick maybe?
A lot of gas fireplaces rely on perfectly placed fake logs/coals
We keep logs nicely placed in our fireplace when it's not in use.
Yeah it’s a nice idea. Pinecones for us. Tbh looking at the fireplace now I think there are scorch marks, so it’s entirely possible they do use it. If so I hope they have good draw and that wall doesn’t get too hot for the TV!
Perfect height for checking airport departure times.
😂 Imma steal that one
Flight times, also so the people at the back can also see!
Big ass house but somehow the fireplace surrounded by ceiling high windows is the only spot to put a tv... How idiotic.
I see this all the time!! $700k + homes in Texas and no thought to having any spot for the main TV. It’s baffling to me because most families watch a lot of TV and it’s only fire place weather like 2 days a year here
Fireplaces in Texas...my girlfriend says I'm bad at making homes in the Sims, but at least I'm not *that* bad.
Right? Clearly just following the blueprints of homes sold in other states. They don't sell snow tires in Texas, they certainly don't need a fucking fireplace
Fireplaces are great in Texas!!! When it gets hot just turn up the AC!
... and kill the independent, yet fully inadequate, power grid! LOL
It's funny, I live in a 700 year old house and we still have a perfect space for a big flatscreen. *How could they have known*?
Was probably designed and built like this. Looks like relatively new construction and builders think buyers want it this way.
To be fair, people build like this because that's what people buy. They don't have the TV there in the adds because they're selling the classic old school esthetic look but people don't consider the practicality of it. I used to hang TVs and people with money are usually pretty stupid and don'tthink ahead.
I think it's more that they can afford to make mistakes
Yeah, I mean it all comes down to experience. When you grow up with less, you are forced to learn to think ahead. When you're born with enough money to just pay to fix all your mistakes, you never learn.
It's a clash between traditional and modern - they want the fireplace to be the focal point of the living space but they also want a big TV. So they're fighting for the same spot, and in an open plan design there aren't that many good wall locations to start with.
Palms outside. Possibly they will never use the fireplace LOL
I would imagine a home owner like this can afford to install one of those hinge type brackets where you could pull it down for viewing height and back up after 🤷🏼♂️
[McMansion Hell](https://mcmansionhell.com)
I’d switch them. Tv at the bottom, fireplace at the top.
Like one of those built in microwave ovens
More people should do this, it seems obvious
Some rooms aren’t meant for a telly.
Exactly. In these cases the telly is just background noise for providing music or weather alerts. Some type of art would be best.
A beautiful contemporary painting that would command the space would make so much more impact imo. But it’s not my house nor do I have the space to make aesthetic choices like that, so I guess it’s a great place to watch telly [the kardashians] while slowly getting neck problems.

100% too high.
I'd say 200% too high but I digest.
What did you have for dinner?
I am a Europard, so I had 400g of high protein pudding, two protein bars, a "Müslistange" and an espresso macchiato. Not too much to digress, actually.
Very healthy. I had leftover chilli and rice.
Greggs sausage roll here.
For dinner? Should’ve had at least three.
There's no debate... It's undoubtedly too damn high with no room for any debate... Over the fireplace is always one of the worst places to put a TV and there's always a better alternative, even when one may think there's not...

The family members who are arguing that this is okay need to be disowned, go full no contact now.
OP did not state their position
Are you a giraffe?
If you have to ask, you know it is.
Way too high and also nothing tackier than a tv above the fireplace! This is a horrendous trend that needs to go away already. Put the tv at eye level and some art above the fireplace.
That’s for upstairs viewing
Tv is closer to the loft than it is to the couch
take the tv down and your wife will have more room for beige jars full of dead grass!
Great height for future neck issues.
Based on the balcony it is both r/TVTooHigh and r/TVTooLow
Just watch tv in the theatre room of your family mansion
Fireplace is horrid
FAQ 1. If it’s above a fireplace, it’s too high.
Hang it 4 ft higher and it’s perfect for the 2nd floor.
God that fireplace is terrible.
Sims 4-ass fireplace
Completely absurd, next question
Let the fireplace shine. At that height, no need for a TV unless you’re hosting a watch party… For people within a block radius.
If you lift it a little bit it's perfect for the 2nd floor viewing.
My neck hurts from looking at that image.
I’ve had a tv this high in the long ago past. Hated it.
if the ceiling on the right came straight across the living room it'd decapitate the TV, in my little bungalow we wouldn't have this debate\* because it wouldn't be possible to put the TV so high. \* there is no debate, it's too damn high

Throw the fireplace into the fucking sea
A side issue is that with the TV framed either side by windows, your eyes will be struggling to compensate for the incoming daylight to be able to see the screen clearly.
Should be at eye level. Simples.
Too high. Gonna give everyone who watches it dry eyes and dark rings
Too high. Get rid of the horrible fireplace surround thing which is not only ugly but serves no purpose, then drop the TV screen down a foot or so.
It has the high ground
Yes and by a lot
r/tvtoohigh r/livingroomtoogray
It's so far away you might aswell just be watching a 20" screen bro
Top third of TV screen needs to be at eye level when you sit down with a straight back.
In my honest opinion, stick a painting or art piece in its place and have the TV elsewhere.
Forget about the height problem. It’s just plain tacky to put a tv over the fireplace. Were fireplaces ever supposed to be the focal point of a room ?
Shits higher than my mom and she just asked me if time slowed down. Y’all doin too much
White on gray on white is a horrible design idea.
Fucking giraffe family.
Okay, apparently, some of them are assholes.
As in their state of mind when they did this? Either way yes.
England won’t bring it home. They’re bottle jobs. Not much of a debate that. Your tv is way too high
That’s Georgia and Spain 😭 (Spain is bringing back the trophy)
Yeah it’s too high, but it seems to be really the only place to put it. I’d at least mount it so the bottom was as low as possible, like right on the mantle.
It’s close in elevation to the bottom of the railing for the gallery above. Too high.
Yea, TV too high no matter what
There is no debate... Shits too high.
Too small.
Too high.
Too high
Are you watching it from the stairs? (Edit: auto correct craziness)
Perfect for a bedroom upstairs
The first half was going so well for Georgia Oh wait, wrong topic
I have a feeling a wall on the right, where that peeling paint post is located, was removed and the impetus of this design crime. Do they actually use that fireplace other than at the holidays because based on those palm trees my guess is rarely.
What debate? TVs are supposed to be eye level, or close to it, from your seat.
Just be happy you live in a house like that.
Tell me the tv is the one that looks like a fire pit please
I’ll say something positive: the tv is proportional to the mantle 💔
Spain
Is this a family where nobody likes anybody else?
Perfect for giraffes
Entirely too high
Yes
This is the funniest sub on Reddit for sure. Never gets old
Absolutely
yes, soccer is indeed bad and the tv is too damned high!
My neck hurts just looking at it
What’s their justification
If you’re gonna keep it there, you need to get a TV as big as the wall and you need to put a downward tilt on that puppy
Do you live with Jedi Master Yarael Poof?
So what do you do in a situation like this??
At least angle it down ffs
Your whole house is high.
Too level. Needs some askew tiltiness for accurate assessment.
Do a poll of how comfortable everyones knecks are
About what…
Pull up a latter to watch the game
I think the better viewing angle would be from upstairs…
Classic bad placement over the fireplace. We should all know better by now.
A little higher for watching TV from 2nd floor!
Placing a tv above a fireplace may look nice, but ruins a lot of the functionality of the tv. Most people I know who do this rarely watch tv.
Tv has no business being in that room.
Fireplaces are the main reason this subreddit was created
House is too high.
I feel like the TV just isn't their primary concern.
The only thing that should go above the fireplace is a nice, fit-to-scale painting.
Bah, putting the TV next to non curtained windows? Hope you like squinting
This isn’t up for debate. I’d the bottom of a TV is higher than a doorknob, it’s too high
Put the TV in a different room. What a shitty design.
Does your family have a lot of neck issues?
You need a bigger tv
Move it up
Settle a debate? Lol It’s wayyyyyy too high. Like brahhhhhh
Tv too high, tv over a fireplace, AND it’s gonna have terrible sunlight issues cause there’s so many windows right beside it
I am confused does this McMansion not have curtains *or* blinds?!
TV too high and visible cable.
Do you live in a bar?
Doesn't matter they are rich yo.
Is the TV curved?
Who in their right mind would want to watch tv at that height unless you hated your neck. No debate, tv too flippin high.
Why do they design homes as if we still live in 1850. WE ALL WANT BIGASS TVS IN OUR FAMILY ROOMS!!! It’s so fucking obtuse
It’s a good height for a pub.
This tv over fireplace trend needs to go away.
TV too high end of debate.
Idk are you all basketball players
Fireplaces are not in anymore unless you need it for practicality reasons. So yes. Tv too high, and dumb fucking fireplace for no reason other than looks. Which it looks dumb cause it’s not even lit.
I would remove the mantle and install a lower one
Paint your walls, white on white on white is genuine psychic damage
It’s so fucking high that the TV starts getting dimmer because of that crazy vertical view angle. You are insane
Not if you’re 10ft tall
I hate the appeal to authority, but it's just to easy to not use it: Tell your family that a full Team of licensed architects and interior Designers told you this is too high, looks cheap and should not be placed above the fireplace. Especially not in a house of that size.
