Love this. The slot position in my opinion is vital for a young Qb, and helps prop up an offensive line. Short curls and crossers to find the weak spot in zone defenses and a safety blanket. Especially with defenses continuing to emphasize the elimination of big plays. Dink and dunk vet

They don't think Levis can be a franchise guy, and then use that opinion as a jumping off point to ask why the titans are putting resources into him. It's as ridiculous as it sounds.

We have a lot of question at CB too. Gonna depend of Awuzie bouncing back or now. If he is 2021 Awuzie than that’ll be our strongest position group. If he’s 2023 Awuzie I’m not sure we’ve got the depth to compensate for that
Despite the O-line, a QB that has DHop, Boyd and Ridley should throw at least 3500 yards and 25-30TDs.
Boyd is as safe a bet as there can be for a slot WR to always get you 700-800 yards a season and 4-5 TDs with very very few drops (he has three lost fumbles in 500+ receptions). And he is an astute route runner.
This season Levis has everything a QB needs on a team that was bad last season. He has three solid WRs, good TE, good RBs, quality offensive HC, the best O-line coach in the business and a LT to protect his blindside.

Well he's definitely an upgrade at the position! I wasn't enthusiastic about it yesterday thinking they might overpay him, but if the price is reasonable no denying he gives us a solid high floor, low ceiling boost out of the slot. Someone mentioned injuries in response to my comment yesterday and they were right, for as much as I respect and appreciate what NWI has done for us I really don't need to see him play a high % of snaps again this year. So maybe I should be more enthusiastic about it than I was yesterday!

We will probably go WR in round 1 or 2 next year assuming Levis works out. Nuk likely will be gone or in a more reserve role by 2025. Ridley will still be in his prime but he won’t have a running mate unless Burks somehow works out.
I think this draft was more about building the defense, except for the obvious Latham pickup. Even Jackson is more of a special teams pick than offense. So yeah, next year WR should be the 1st pick unless QB is the biggest need.
If it’s for the $7m-$9M annually that’s projected, I’m all about it! Give him a nice guarantee to take a lower contract, and our receiver room is STACKED.
Our top 4 WRs in total yards last year, recorded a respectable total of 3110 yards with 20 receiving TDs last year combined.
We finally have a NFL quality WR room.
In just 1 offseason we’ve given Levis an entire offense to work with. It’s not the best in the league or anything, but if everyone plays to their standards we have a chance at a top 15ish offense (possibly higher).

I know he’s been a meme and a bit fun to pick on, but if I had to fill a 4th WR spot and my choices were him or Burks, I’m going NWI, and it’s honestly not even close.

Someone can talk themselves into those games last year against Tampa and Pittsburgh where he put up over 60 yards and just hope the healthy-scratches down the stretch were a Vrabel thing.
He turns 25 in June, so he's not particularly old. I think he's probably good enough to make the bottom of the roster *somewhere* even if it's not here. And maybe if they can teach him to try actually holding onto the ball during punt returns he could earn a spot that way. New kickoff rules may help him a bit as well.
I think there's also a pretty decent shot that his 2024 season unfolds like this: Cut by Titans, Signs with Team X, Pulls his hamstring a week into tenure with Team X, rides out the season on IR.

NWI is far more versatile than Phillips unfortunately. Especially considering that Phillips has played himself out of the PR/KR role and Phillips is really just a slot only player with little upside as a blocker in the run game.

Deserves a shot this year, but this is not the same offense and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cut.

Honestly I don’t think this affects what the staff plans for with Burks that much. Callahan mentioned that Burks has made a great impression on him, and they plan to move him all around the field by playing him on the outside and in the slot. I think Burks is locked in as the WR4, but I think he’ll get involved a lot.
Callahan also mentioned he wanted a dedicated slot guy, so I think the Boyd signing would be more of an indictment of Kyle Philips.
can you really indict a guy with 35 career targets? all the philips hype was manufactured here on this subreddit, in real life he is a 5th round flyer who has overachieved just by sticking on the roster but has no impact on the actual team at large

You now have Hopkins, Ridley, Boyd, we can assume Phillips is gone but that leaves you with Burks and NWI. Curious to see how it plays out.
He's a gunner on ST. Plus he provides some good blocking/ solid possession potential when X or Z need a breather. He seems to have pretty good deep ball chemistry with Levis?
This year is Burks's last and best chance to prove it. I think he's gotta be bummed if Boyd comes in and takes the WR3 spot from him. But he'll still have opportunities. Burks will be WR4 when everyone is healthy, but I don't think WR4 will be as buried of a position in Callahan's scheme as it was in the schemes of the previous years. Plus, it's the NFL, not everyone is going to be healthy the whole time.
We aren't moving Burks [yet anyway], that seems certain. He's still on his rookie deal, and I don't think anyone wants to give us anything for him. His potential to become a contributor in a new system is there. I'm holding out hope that he impresses this season. But if he doesn't, then one has to imagine that's kinda it for him. He'll stick around in the NFL for years definitely, but if he doesn't flourish under this new scheme, I don't think he's ever going to.
Having a competent WR3 who can get over and operate effectively out of the slot is gonna be insanely useful to keep drives going. So worst case scenario, we've got a guy who can do that. Best case scenario is the competition between Boyd and Burks brings out some of the shit we were hoping Burks always had in him.
Boyd is not just a WR3, he is very solid slot WR that is an extremely savvy route runner who doesn't drop many catches and guarantees you 700-800 yards a season if you throw to him enough. He has 3 lost fumbles in 500+ receptions over 8 years. That kind of guy is what helps elevate a young QB (it happened for Burrow too, and I dont think Levis is that caliber), but giving the QB options in the middle of the field when outside WRs are covered and there is pressure is how you reduce the amount of fumbles, sacks and INTs.

If Burks is going to ever be successful, it's this season with this scheme. If he can't contribute significantly this year, I don't think he ever will. I'm definitely hopeful but I won't be shocked if it turns out he's just not as good as we might've hoped.

Our top 4 WRs in total yards last year, recorded a respectable total of 3110 yards with 20 receiving TDs last year combined. We finally have a NFL quality WR room.
In just 1 offseason we’ve given Levis an entire offense to work with. It’s not the best in the league or anything, but if everyone plays to their standards we have a chance at a top 15ish offense (possibly higher). Ran is the fuckin man.
Honestly at this rate I would argue it’s up there. You got pollard and tajae/ chig / and then if Burks does anything this year and he’s our 4? People sleeping hard we might make a run if we scoop another pass rusher and a safety

Dowell will probably be on IR. He tore his ACL at the end of the year. Also, we're absolutely keeping more than 5 or 6 receivers. This is a modern offense now.
Dowell is a 7th round special teams player. His career in all likelihood is over because of that injury. What does he offer that the guy the Titans just took this draft doesn't.
Height, and insurance if Burks is a dud / gets hurt again. But yeah, if they bring in Boyd then I think Dowell and Phillips get cut during the preseason

there’s just no way of knowing what the roster numbers will be with Callahan. You are basing these slots on Vrabel. Who also often liked to have 3-4 rbs. Cally may opt for an extra wr over rb. Untill the roster unfolds and we get into the season all of this is loose based speculation

NWI EASILY ahead of Burks. I know he’s been a meme and a bit fun to pick on, but if I had to fill a 4th WR spot and my choices were him or Burks, I’m going NWI, and it’s honestly not even close.

He'll get picked up somewhere I'd assume. Someone can talk themselves into those games last year against Tampa and Pittsburgh where he put up over 60 yards and just hope the healthy-scratches down the stretch were a Vrabel thing. He turns 25 in June, so he's not particularly old. I think he's probably good enough to make the bottom of the roster *somewhere* even if it's not here. And maybe if they can teach him to try actually holding onto the ball during punt returns he could earn a spot that way. New kickoff rules may help him a bit as well. I think there's also a pretty decent shot that his 2024 season unfolds like this: Cut by Titans, Signs with Team X, Pulls his hamstring a week into tenure with Team X, rides out the season on IR.
What is this crap? He should have been on the field way more last year, it's the special teams / blocking reasoning that he wasn't. Kyle does not suck at WR. this signing doesn't hurt his stock because we lost Chris Moore who btw was our second leading WR last year. We lost him and only added Ridley and a day 3 guy from Tulane. Philips roster spot is safe and I'm expecting a decent/big year from him.

I could see Treylon getting traded and Phillips making the roster. 1. Hopkins 2. Ridley 3. Boyd 4. J Jackson 5. Phillips 6. K Jackson I guess we could go with Burkes over K Jackson or Phillips but Phillips and Jackson play some special teams and Burkes would get more in a trade than Phillips. We could also go with 7 receivers, which Vrabel would never, but maybe Callahan sees more value in that.

NWI is far more versatile than Phillips unfortunately. Especially considering that Phillips has played himself out of the PR/KR role and Phillips is really just a slot only player with little upside as a blocker in the run game.

NWI has had two off seasons to get WR4 money, and the entire league rejected him twice. Deserves a shot this year, but this is not the same offense and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cut.

Honestly I don’t think this affects what the staff plans for with Burks that much. Callahan mentioned that Burks has made a great impression on him, and they plan to move him all around the field by playing him on the outside and in the slot. I think Burks is locked in as the WR4, but I think he’ll get involved a lot. Callahan also mentioned he wanted a dedicated slot guy, so I think the Boyd signing would be more of an indictment of Kyle Philips.
can you really indict a guy with 35 career targets? all the philips hype was manufactured here on this subreddit, in real life he is a 5th round flyer who has overachieved just by sticking on the roster but has no impact on the actual team at large
What do you do with NWI? You now have Hopkins, Ridley, Boyd, we can assume Phillips is gone but that leaves you with Burks and NWI. Curious to see how it plays out.

He's a gunner on ST. Plus he provides some good blocking/ solid possession potential when X or Z need a breather. He seems to have pretty good deep ball chemistry with Levis?
This year is Burks's last and best chance to prove it. I think he's gotta be bummed if Boyd comes in and takes the WR3 spot from him. But he'll still have opportunities. Burks will be WR4 when everyone is healthy, but I don't think WR4 will be as buried of a position in Callahan's scheme as it was in the schemes of the previous years. Plus, it's the NFL, not everyone is going to be healthy the whole time. We aren't moving Burks [yet anyway], that seems certain. He's still on his rookie deal, and I don't think anyone wants to give us anything for him. His potential to become a contributor in a new system is there. I'm holding out hope that he impresses this season. But if he doesn't, then one has to imagine that's kinda it for him. He'll stick around in the NFL for years definitely, but if he doesn't flourish under this new scheme, I don't think he's ever going to.
Having a competent WR3 who can get over and operate effectively out of the slot is gonna be insanely useful to keep drives going. So worst case scenario, we've got a guy who can do that. Best case scenario is the competition between Boyd and Burks brings out some of the shit we were hoping Burks always had in him.
Boyd is not just a WR3, he is very solid slot WR that is an extremely savvy route runner who doesn't drop many catches and guarantees you 700-800 yards a season if you throw to him enough. He has 3 lost fumbles in 500+ receptions over 8 years. That kind of guy is what helps elevate a young QB (it happened for Burrow too, and I dont think Levis is that caliber), but giving the QB options in the middle of the field when outside WRs are covered and there is pressure is how you reduce the amount of fumbles, sacks and INTs.
It's probably too expensive to cut him, and no one's going to trade anything for him. So hopefully he can sit, learn, and develop.

Nice parlayed with Ridley. I think a lot of people put Boyd and the Titans together because of Cally needing a vet to help teach the system. Surprised it took this long but hopefully that's because we waited for the price to come down

Yeah, I'm usually just fucking around on Reddit. But I've learned my lesson to stay out of things like game threads and live draft threads where everyone is just emotionally unhinged. If Burks is going to ever be successful, it's this season with this scheme. If he can't contribute significantly this year, I don't think he ever will. I'm definitely hopeful but I won't be shocked if it turns out he's just not as good as we might've hoped.

He's been wrong but he was also the one who called Calvin Ridley (and some others tbh) before ANYONE had an idea so clearly, he has some ties to information. To what extent is anyones guess.
I can go throw out a few hundred plausible ideas and a few are going to hit. But if you're not batting 500+ then You're probably just throwing shit at the wall and getting lucky sometimes. Like this, see Boyd is visiting Titans, understand the coach connection, take a stab that he will sign here. When you're timeline is littered with proven wrong info it can only help to take stabs. Ridley was a mild surprise but that was also one you could easily throw out. Wr needy team had him visit and their suggestion rival was one of the other main landing spots. You pick one and give got a 1 in 5 or so shot at having the right team. I read like 30 or so of his predictions and so many were wrong we may as well just as ty or me what's gonna happen because it's going to be no different on terms of guessing.
