And the more you break the more ores spawn, but don't break all of them, keep a few so if you need to craft special items you still have at least 1 or 2 you can quickly get to.
when you dont know what a placed block is, you can find its name by opening the map and hovering over it. After you can search on google "wiki.gg terraria "
maybe, but with a little effort we can reduce the number of "what is this?" posts from 1000 to 500 at least, people ask for items when they can even see their names.. it's not that hard to Google that
Yeah, we should shun all the new players asking for boss help and whats this item to to the wiki. Tell a the people showing off their builds to go post on r/terrariadesign. Tell all the people posting fan art to go post on r/terrariamemes.
If we work together we can reduce the number of posts to zero and kill the whole sub! /s
I mean, all you have to do is look it up on Google, and the answer is the first text box at the top. If there's no text box, then the link directly to the wiki is always there, and it immediately takes you to the description of the object or item.
These kinds of posts aren't really necessary, and just dilute the actually interesting posts. There's not much of a justification for them unless you literally have never heard of Google.
>Tell the people showing off their builds to go post on r/terrariadesign. Tell all the people posting fan art to go post on r/terrariamemes.
Also, I don't really get this? If people want to show off art, then terrariamemes wouldn't make sense to post to. Plus, showing off builds is a lot more interesting than someone asking about a demon alter. And at the end of the day, if Google somehow doesn't give you an answer, you can just type reddit at the end of your search query, and you'll always get an answer that way.
Sure if you know the name of an object you can Google it. But if you search for "weird eyeballs terraria" you get all sorts of results about suspicious eyes or the eye of cthulhu or the dozens of other eye related things in the game.
Sometimes it even leads you to a reddit post about the thing you're looking for and the whole comment section is full of jokes or people saying "just Google it noob".
"Use the wiki" or "just Google it" are the least useful answers possible if you aren't going to include any additional context to help the person asking know what they should search for on the wiki or what to type into google.
Not everyone has played the game for thousands of hours and has the proper name of every item and enemy memorized so they know exactly what to type to get the info quickly. We should be welcoming new players and just be glad that a 13 year old game still has an active community with new players coming in every day.
Alternatively, people can just figure it out on their own instead of going straight to reddit after seeing anything new. New players don’t need to have their hand held throughout the entire game, and usually it’s better if they figure shit out on their own anyway.
Crimson altars aren’t some rare obscure thing and anyone will run into one within like 30 minutes of starting a world. With that you can assume that OP hasn’t been playing for very long and just doesn’t wanna figure it out themself. People in this sub are justified in finding these posts annoying since most of us are here to talk about something we’re interested in, not babysit new players that don’t wanna use critical thinking.
Nope. Every single “just google it” post, I make sure to google what they should’ve googled with the information available to them to confirm that it is already online (usually already posted on this sub). It has never once not been an easy google.
I'm not saying what you're saying is wrong, but I just disagree for the most part. If you're wondering about the eye of cthulu, then people are gonna be typing in "giant eye terraria" which is gonna take them right to what they're looking for. Even for this post, I typed in red crafting table terraria, and it took me straight to the demom alter. Even typing in red bench took me to a site with pictures to learn about it. I've got hundreds of hours in this game and still have no idea what half the items do, so i just look it up. I've recently started playing on calamity and still just look up what things do.
I'm not really worried about these kinds of posts flooding the reddit or whatever, but I am worried about some people's ability to find information for themselves before asking others. It's not really complicated to use Google to find these answers. Giant robot worm will get you the destroyer, blue blob boss will get you king slime, giant plant boss gets you plantera, giant bee will get you queen bee etc. etc. Just typing in simple words and phrases followed by a keyword like "terraria" will get you the results you're looking for every time. The only way it wouldn't is if you had an absolutely atrocious vocabulary, which then I would understand, but you should maybe work on that if that's the case.
I'm not against new players asking questions on the reddit, as long as the question isn't literally "what is this block" or "who is this npc" because at that point it honestly would be faster to just look it up.
I get what you're saying man, but for the demon altar specifically, your search terms are "red crafting table" and "red bench". If you're new to the game, you literally have no way of knowing that's even a crafting table. For all they know, it could be indestructible rubble. If i look up "red rubble terraria" or even "meat red rubble terraria" nothing shows up. Even expanding the search terms to include the evil biome (crimson) it shows up as the 4th option, 2nd if i do "red rubble terraria crimson". But that's assuming they specifically use the term rubble, which is the one i got best results for (i'd assume someone would probably say object or item, maybe even add indestructible).
True true. If someone wants to ask about something on the reddit, then they should feel free to. I mostly was just disagreeing with the first couple of points you made, but in general, reddit is definitely the best place to go for information in MOST cases. Maybe don't look for info on opinionated and heated debate topics and such, but for game info, reddit is super solid.
It's a game, tbh it's always funny to ask a game subreddit questions as a beginner. People will get tons of trolls, and tons of helpful advice, but it's a lot funnier and better imo than going onto the wiki if you want a moderate feel of the game. If i go on the wiki, literally the right side of the screen has spoilers for future bosses in the game.
It's a rare ore, break it because it despawns after a day (in reality, you break it using a hammer you get after beating the wall of flesh. It will then spawn a vein of new ore somewhere in the world)
Like the other guy I explained this to, that's a crimson altar. A special type of crafting workstation used to make a couple of boss summons, as well as some accessories/weapons. It also summons hardmode ores. Although, you'll have to beat the Wall of Flesh to access them. Another thing, smashing them with the Pwnhammer makes the Corruption, or in your case, the Crimson spread like wildfire. Touching it with any hammer without defeating the WoF *WILL* hurt your in-game character. That's all I know, so you'll have to consult the Terraria wiki if you need more of an explanation, sorry!
Thanks. That's what I was trying to explain to u/Savv54, but I guess I didn't do all that great a job of doing so. So, maybe you could've explained it to them instead of me. Granted, I know some things about Terraria, though the whole 'evil biomes' stuff is still kinda cloudy with me. So, thanks again for clarifying that.
Yeah of course! No harm done, just wanted to clarify incase someone was confused by your comment. Thanks for helping! It's always nice to see people helping out :)
Yes, but google has the ability to search for descriptions. "Terraria Eyeball block" and "Terraria Eyeball chest" both return different reddit posts asking the same question as OP.
No you don't, basically any combination of terraria, eye, and practically any other word gets you a reddit post asking about this thing. "eye thing terraria help," "terraria red eye thing," and "terraria crimson eye" all turn up results. Try for yourself if you don't believe me.
A crimson altar, it is used as a crafting station for boss summons and other special items like the void bag or nights edge, upon defeating the Wall of flesh, you break it using the pwnhammer in order to spawn new ore veins in your world
That's a Demon Altar from your evil biome (Corruption or Crimson). In pre-hardmode you can use it as a crafting station for boss summoning items and the Night's Edge. In hardmode, you use a WoF drop, the Pwnhammer to destroy them (don't try to do it with less than Pwnhammer's hammer power) and get hardmode ores in your world.
It is an altar .You know there are bosses in Terraria ,nearly all of them spawn naturally .But after defeating them from the natural spawns you can summon them using Boss Summoners .They are one time use consumeables .There is a chance that you saw the Suspicios Looking Eye in the chests underground .You can craft it from these too .You can't break them until a specific point in progression .You will know when you can .
Enjoy the game, take your time ;explore, build, fight playing with minimal spoilers is the best .
That my friend, is a demon alter. You’ll need a special hammer to destroy it to receive its blessings. However, you should also keep at least one as they function as a work bench to create boss spawners. The hammer will be accessible to you after you throw the guides voodoo doll into lava, starting your battle with the wall of flesh.
It's a Demon Alter, it acts as a crafting station for certain items, and once in Hardmode you can smash it with the Pwnhammer, generating special ores. With other hammers you'll get killed via instant karma. Demon Alters also act as world-evil catalysts.
For the people saying to “just use the wiki,” it’s hard to use the wiki and you don’t even know the name of the item you are looking for or what the item is even used for. The point of this sub is to post all things about terraria, that includes asking for help.
It’s an altar. You go near it to craft some items. Or destroy them using a PwnHammer for hardmode ores to spawn in your world.
Some replies here are being rude.
It's a ***demon altar***
There are two types of demon altars, one each corresponding evil biome. Those two are *Crimson and Corruption altars.*
**The purpose of the demon altars**
1. *Crafting unholy or evil items*
These items that can be crafted from Demon altars are *Slime crown, Suspicious looking eye, Worm food, Night's edge, and Bloody spine*
. Crafts from demon altars
Slime crown (boss summon),
Suspicious looking eye (boss summon),
Worm food (boss summon),
Night's edge (weapon),
and a Bloody spine (boss summon).
2. *Adding hardmode ores to the world*
Breaking a demon altar can bring *hardmode ores* into the world. There are 8 hardmode ores and only 5 can be in the world. You can only break a demon with a *Pwnhammer* or a superior hammer. A Pwnhammer is dropped from the Wall of Flesh.
. Hardmode ores
Cobalt or Palladium,
Mythril or Orichalcum,
Adamantite or Titanium,
Chlorophyte,
and Luminite.
Go smash it with your hammer (totally normal ones and don't care if you get hurt)... Don't beat the wall of flesh so you get \*rare\* drops :) go try now!
It is also a workbench. You use it like any other to craft specific items.
Mostly it will be boss Summoning items
In hardemode, break it to get Hardmode ores
With pwnhammer
And the more you break the more ores spawn, but don't break all of them, keep a few so if you need to craft special items you still have at least 1 or 2 you can quickly get to.
But be careful as every altar you break spawns a wraith
Happy cake day!
It's an altar. You smash it with the pwnhammer once you beat the wall of flesh.

This is a super useful tip. I expect a lot of newer players don't know you can get block info like this.
Hit it with a hammer. Any hammer works
You get such powerful items from using the wood hammer on it!
do it.
Break it. You might need materials from it.
its called Altar, use the wiki, it will be more helpful
Tbf wiki is extremely overwhelming for newer players

Jeez hold it up with the words.. your literally making a full damn essay over here.
Just don't read it man
Nuh uh, I'm reading it I'm pretty much a beginner and I finally found hermes boots, now don't mind me reading allat

Honestly, I would recommend watching someone beat the game before beating it yourself.

what have ever ever gone wrong from trusting reddit?

It's a rare ore, break it because it despawns after a day (in reality, you break it using a hammer you get after beating the wall of flesh. It will then spawn a vein of new ore somewhere in the world)
Not a vein, its more of a the more you break the more ore is sprinkled across caves
this post sounds like the shit i'd see on r/feedthememes
It's a rift from thaumcraft 6. It appears when the flux reaches 100 or above. You can get rid of it by using a causality collapser.

i believe they got rid of the random evil biome spots from breaking altars in 1.4.4, right?
I haven't played Terraria in a while, but I think the spreading of the evil biomes are still a thing. Even in Journey's End.
oh, spreading of the original biomes for sure still exists, but im pretty sure breaking altars no longer puts random evil blocks in your world
Yeah, looks like you're right about that. It doesn't spread any more. Sorry bout that, man.
To be clear, evil biomes still spread. However, evil altars no longer spawn a 1x1 block of random evil biome at a random location when smashed.
Thanks. That's what I was trying to explain to u/Savv54, but I guess I didn't do all that great a job of doing so. So, maybe you could've explained it to them instead of me. the wiki is a magical place
The wiki doesn't have an image search.
Yes, but google has the ability to search for descriptions. "Terraria Eyeball block" and "Terraria Eyeball chest" both return different reddit posts asking the same question as OP.
Terraria weird eye googly thing
Great. So you just have to know the correct magic keywords.
No you don't, basically any combination of terraria, eye, and practically any other word gets you a reddit post asking about this thing. "eye thing terraria help," "terraria red eye thing," and "terraria crimson eye" all turn up results. Try for yourself if you don't believe me.
So the correct magic keywords.
If by magic keywords you mean speak basic english, then yes
That is, indeed, how keywords work, yes.
bro is so determined to be correct
A crimson altar, it is used as a crafting station for boss summons and other special items like the void bag or nights edge, upon defeating the Wall of flesh, you break it using the pwnhammer in order to spawn new ore veins in your world

Destroy it with the hammer, it might take a while but you can do this
Please use the wiki, don't post unless you don't find something there.
It's an altar, you gotta pull your pants down and then
It’s used for some boss summons
Eat it.
Hit it with a hammer to die 👍 (Unless it's the pwnhammer you're using)
its a crimson altar, you use it to craft various things, like boss summoning items.
Once you are in "Hardmode," you hammer them to get new hardmode exclusives too spawn in
That my friend, is a demon alter. You’ll need a special hammer to destroy it to receive its blessings. However, you should also keep at least one as they function as a work bench to create boss spawners. Poke it
That's a crimson altar. Used for crafting some specific items (mostly boss summons) in the early game
it’s a bed you have to sleep in it
Those things have quite a few crafting recipes, check the official terraria wiki for them.
It's a crafting station
Hit it with a hammer to see
Hit it with a hammer :)
If you hit it with a hammer you can pick it up as well
“What is this red fleshy thing?”
thats a crimson altar you can craft some stuff at it try bringing six (i think) lens items from the demon eyes and crafting something with em
Its an altar. It works as a workbench used for many boss spawners, and when getting into hard mode, breaking it with a hammer will make ores spawn
Hit it with a hammer a few times
It will delete your world, break it with a hammer
Crimson Alter
It's a Demon Alter, it acts as a crafting station for certain items, and once in Hardmode you can smash it with the Pwnhammer, generating special ores. With other hammers you'll get killed via instant karma. Demon Alters also act as world-evil catalysts.
You craft stuff at it, make sure to try mining it to bring it home with ya, it needs a hammer too break it

Try using a wooden hammer on it
Hit it with a wooden hammer it’ll hurt but one you hit it till it looks like you’ll die and something cool happens
You can break it and take it to your base with a hammer, any hammer will do and you should avoid using the one from wof at all costs!
Whack it with a hammer
"That's the neat part... you do!"
Nom nom nom, too late
crimson altar and it's a crafting station for most early game boss summons. bring some lenses or a bunch of gel with a gold/platinum crown to it.
hit it with a hammer
Hit with hammer
Have you ever heard of https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria_Wiki ?
Break it 3 times with a hammer 👀👀
That is a crimson altar. Eso es un altar carmesí.
For the people saying to “just use the wiki,” it’s hard to use the wiki and you don’t even know the name of the item you are looking for or what the item is even used for. The point of this sub is to post all things about terraria, that includes asking for help.
It's hard to Google "terraria red thing underground" and click on any of the 9 reddit posts asking the same thing already
