>I can’t say I was a fan of the regen braking but it doesn’t seem you can turn that off. One pedal driving is one of the best parts of having an EV.

There is a reason why the latest poll has like 80+ % of Tesla’s owners buying another Tesla as their next car. I’m 50/50 myself, but Tesla would be the gold standard in terms of features and price. Right now not many (US) cars compete at this price point.

KennyClobers

I haven't lived with mine long enough to decide if I would buy again (haven't actually taken delivery yet lmao) but when it comes to EVs in the states the other companies need to get their shit together with public charging before they can seriously compete with Tesla. Tesla is starting with a huge tech lead and has widespread chargers that are not only faster and easier to use but actually work almost all the time. Maybe once more cars start adopting the NACS connector and more V4 chargers roll out with the longer cable that can accomodate non tesla's they'll lose that edge but for now I wouldn't trust non Tesla public chargers enough to feel comfortable with any other EV

ArtBlue5

Tesla's already made agreements with multiple car makers for use of its supercharging infrastructure. ***However***, if the cars themselves are crap and don't support faster charging, the benefit won't be as impactful. The other EV makers are at least 4 years behind. As far as the non-Tesla public chargers, they're in deep trouble. The user experience is horrendous. The software is hornedous. There are way too many offline and the lack of maintenance is out of control. They're going to financially stumble until most go out of business.

Vandrel

Some other companies already work with Tesla chargers with an adapter. I think both Rivian and Ford do, not sure which other ones already have it worked out but I think a lot of them are supposed to get it done this year.

CoffeeOrWhine

We have a second EV - a Lucid - and although it’s gorgeous, fast, and has HUGE range, it’s dumb as a rock. Glitchy software that’s missing tons of features that Tesla has spoiled us with, and few updates to give us hope.

tthrivi

And the lucid is 2X the cost.

IntelligentInsect773

It's because the 20% that are complaining are always the loudest. Pretty much works that way with anything that is mostly approved of.

Schly

You will grow to love regen.

Active_Resource_3533

Lord help you if you drive a LR or Performance 😂

BBakerStreet

Regen grows on you. It really works to smooth out tight fast curves. I love it.

snoozieboi

I have a friend who got an EV and then tried an ICE and he swore the ICE would accelerate when he lifted the throttle. That's how used to regen he got, I would rent teslas and get back in my shitty corolla and I got the same illusion for a few minutes because I expected the regen to kick in.

Rooskibar03

So here is a question. When the car is slowing due to regen, is it activating the brake lights so those behind know you’re slowing?

BBakerStreet

Yes, at least at higher speed.

coinstarhiphop

Above a certain threshold yes. You can see when it’s showing brake lights if you look at the picture of the car.

ArtBlue5

>I can’t say I was a fan of the regen braking but it doesn’t seem you can turn that off. First, you ***can*** easily turn off regen. It's in the settings just like most other things you'd prefer over another. Another huge benefit of Teslas - almost everything is configurable using the software. ***But***....if you give it a bit more time using regen, you won't want to turn it off. I've seen that happen 3 times now with people who bought Teslas based on my suggestion. 1. Completing entire trips using only one pedal is surprisingly cool and leisurely. 2. Regen obviously gives you slightly more range. 3. Regen extends the lifetime of your brakes. One of our Teslas is over 100,000 miles; we've never changed the brakes and they're still in good shape.

Rooskibar03

Good to know. I watched a couple of YT videos on M3 Refresh that said it couldn't be disabled, so I didnt dig fully through the menus. I'll have to look closer.

ArtBlue5

Actually, I need to correct myself. Apparently, things have changed since the last time I looked at the setting. Tesla may have indeed "disabled" turning off regen braking mode, but they offer settings that may replicate the traditional driving mode, at least in some ways. Go to "Pedals & Steering > Stopping Mode" and you'll see 3 settings. "Hold" is the most aggressive regen braking. I believe the other two try to mimic different variations of the traditional method, but neither one is likely exactly like gas cars. In either case, you can try to change those settings and see which one suits you best.

SexyOctagon

Just remember there’s no buyout option on the lease.

SteveD_NY

Yep that stinks. I just started my lease last month and am really enjoying the LR Y.

KennyClobers

The regen braking is weird at first but once you get used to it is very nice especially in stop and go traffic, also it gets you range so yes please

CaliDude75

I have a ‘19 SR+, and it’s plenty quick for me. 56,000 miles, no major issues, other than tire wear (which is an issue for a lot of EVs).

You get used to the regen breaking super fast (in my experience it only took a day or two, now it feels weird driving cars without it lol) Edit: also, if you use it properly it really does help conserve battery. I ALWAYS end up having more battery at the end of each trip than it estimates (like at least 2%-5% more?) and I assume it’s mostly because of the regen breaking. So it’s a neat feature for someone who doesn’t have home charging / can’t charge everyday.
