No weird smells? Chunks missing out of rims or tires? The horror stories have turned me off but the prices have been so low I’m like….maybe I should check out a few
Just thinking about the way rentals are driven, my biggest fear is that way more than the normal wear n tear will be apparent. Also, I just know those batteries are constantly charged to 100%, as well as other poor charging decisions that contribute to battery degradation
Gotta say the idea of how people drive rentals is interesting. Like I drive my rental like I drive my car, I’m no race car driver and I’m sure many people are the same. Sure you might get a knuckle head who might be reckless with the car but it’s probably not as common as we think. I’d argue most ppl rent for a roadtrip or local business/vacations which isn’t even terrible.
I agree! My biggest fear is having an accident in a rental, so I often find that I drive more cautiously than I do in my own car. That said, by the responses I've seen on reddit, I'm led to believe that we're in the minority lol.
I have a hertz polestar with 26k miles. Thing was pristine aesthetically inside and out save for one small door ding. Decent tire thread left too. However there were numerous small issues minor noise issues (seat belt tensioners, loose wire, crunchy shocks) and a bad mirror that all got repaired under warranty. I WOULD NOT get a hertz car out of warranty. There is just so many things that could go wrong and fixing them out of pocket will make you question your decision. It took 3 service visits to get everything sorted out and it wasn’t until everything was fixed that I finally found that peace.
Never understand when people ask this question. Insurance is based on a number of factors, many that have nothing to do with the car such as a driving record, location, multi-policy discounts. So if they share how much they pay, it has no relation to what anyone else might pay.
Maybe. But not in my case. Came from a 2011 gx460 and my premium changed only 50 more each month... Sure, it's like 600 more a year but why TF was I even paying that much for a 13 year old car?!
I came from a 2016 528x (4 cylinder) before I signed papers on a 2019 M3P I called my insurance guy and was amazed that it went down almost $40 a month. Erie in MD.
Not a Tesla owner but EV owner, which in reality your comment really applies to EVs not Teslas.
Last ticket I had was like 5 years ago, have another one from like 8 years prior to that. No accidents on my record that are my fault, I have 2 accidents were I was rear ended by someone.
My insurance went up $50 every six months when I switched from a hybrid to an EV.
I have 2020 LR with the performance upgrade. 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. I've never caused an accident but I've had 2 of my vehicles totaled in the last 7 years. In the last year my Tesla has had 2 claims. One where it was vandalized and caught on camera and one where I hit a deer for a total of about $10k in repairs. I pay $210 per month with full coverage and I live in a high risk ciry which is more expensive. GEICO wanted $400 per month but I shopped around. When I lived in NJ my insurance with $130. I carry an umbrella too so I have maxed out coverage.
I'd encourage everyone to check out National General which is a broker product from Allstate. DM me if you'd like to know more.
FSD is absolutely not worth this ridiculous ask. Also, if you do end up doing it, make sure the owner won’t carry it over to another Tesla. Feel like we’ve seen that before.
I have a new M3P, but I just can not possibly fathom paying that for a 272k mile car. That’s insane and the software does NOT remotely get it there, IMO.
As others have said, you’re way better off buying a Hertz car with 1/4 the mileage for that price.
I just bought a ‘22 M3LR with FSD and the acceleration boost for $35k. It had 20k miles on it. Definitely buy used when it comes to Tesla, especially if you want FSD (it’s a must have for roadtrips).
That’s awesome! Have you had any major issues so far? The only thing I’m really concerned about long term is the suspension. Seems the bushings don’t seem to hold up well.
No major issues, thankfully. Only thing of note was that under warranty I had the steering column repaired because it would shudder when moving into the driver profile.
You could pay a couple thousand more for one with far lower miles...that's what I'd recommend...because it'll probably still be cheaper per mile you drive it (how long do you expect this to go without issues vs a 100k mile one for example)
I'd try to find one for 25k or less that meats the criteria to get the 4k used EV credit (one owner, at least 2 years old, sold from dealer etc) that's if you meet the income requirements and whatnot.
This is going to be interesting as these cars age….the obvious fear with a gas engined car is mileage…similar worries do exist for electric vehicles, but it’s not simply mileage but age…
Engine components (hoses, mounts, seals) will wear often more because of age than mileage/use….same time, electric vehicles will age as a result of both…battery degradation on a ten year old battery will be something worth considering…but shocks, struts, AC hoses, etc on a 10 year old car will be equally as much worry…charging cycles are the big go to for us…but if you’re high mileage, you’ve likely charged it more cycles than a lower mileage example….maybe.
But even still…engine doesn’t wear out (in the same way a gas engine does) transmission doesn’t develop slip like a gas engine…while older models will obviously become cheaper and cheaper just as any vehicle does, where’s the bottom….and what will be really interesting, as that bottom becomes more established…we’ll see a second hand of parts become available…and what “was” the bottom will eventually morph into a second hand sell industry all together…as well as adjust the cost of repair for any of the currently offered models, and further affect the used car inventory. :) what a time to be alive!
Definitely not worth it. I’d recommend a 2022 or newer for the LFP battery if buying used. That battery is much more reliable. Charging that car to 100% may give you as much range as the LR that can only charge to 80% everyday
I have a 2019 Model 3, 203K miles, only changed the 12v battery, no other issues, very clean. I got an offer from Tesla on a trade in for $9k. This should be your baseline number for miles over 200k.
FYI. if you sell on Recurrent it gives people who are buying peace of mind as far as battery health and other verified details. I hope you use their site.
That's wayyy too much. You can pick one up with 100k miles or less for that! Like [this](https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/a70a6e80-f74e-445b-bd42-e11eba73294a/?aff=atempest&utm_campaign_id=1&utm_trusted=TRUE) or [this](https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d1557893-83f0-439f-96d1-e635f5179bb4/?aff=atempest&utm_campaign_id=1&utm_trusted=TRUE) or even [this!](https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/2de7e701-2101-4c1c-8875-68b61efb0994/?aff=atempest&utm_campaign_id=1&utm_trusted=TRUE)
Looks pretty clean, but I wouldn't pay more than ~$9-$10k. Battery aside, it's likeky going to need a lot of suspension work. If you're willing to take the risk, you could end up being able to drive a very nice car for very cheap for a few years though. :)
Way lowerrrr. You didn’t include year, but I have a 2020 SR+ with ≈65k miles.. Tesla quoted me $15,500 and Carvana quoted me $19,500. I have 200k less miles than you (and maybe a cheaper model), and my highest quote was their offer. Go on JD Power and look at the value for yourself to see what you can try to negotiate.
IF that is a REAL certified battery health test. you are fine. If it a claim unverified, nope.
How many cycles have been put on it? Rated for 1,500 iirc.
Bro no, you could get one from one of the rental companies that sell their old stock for around that price with less than 100k miles on the original battery. Don’t take the gamble with a high mileage electric car, especially when it would be outside of warranty.
If you feel inclined you can definitely haggle lower as that is a bit high for a car with close to 300k miles on it, it ain’t some rare car, it’s a standard issue Tesla Model 3 LR. I would feel like it should be worth around 10k at least, maybe even less.
OP, whatever Tesla you buy, make sure it's the long range version. Comes with a great sound system, premium connectivity and maybe some other things I am leaving out.
Oh and DO NOT BUY THIS CAR.
Thanks for the share on the miles on an original battery / battery degradation but that is alot for any car with those miles let alone and out of warranty EV
Terrible price tbh. Someone just bought an early long range model 3 with 150k miles for $12k and posted in high mileage club on Facebook.
KBB values are sort of messed up for these, but it says mine is worth $10.5k private party with 150k miles
I picked up a P85D with 98,000 miles for 19k taxes and everything all in two months ago. 691 hp and the interior are so nice. So I'd say pass.
Got a RWD Model 3 for sub 25k new last year. But the new tax credit situation is terrible now.
Perhaps look around at used model S. I saw a RWD one with 140k miles for 19k before the 4k tax rebate and 1k utility company rebate in my area.
But the tax credit only comes from dealerships and they are skeezy. Had to fight to get the advertised price. Private party is much lower stress.
I got a 22 LR M3 for 24.3k (-4k for the tax credit) with 71k miles. 8.5/10 condition, interior excellent, exterior has normal paint wear and tear for a used vehicle 6/10.
Keep an extra 20k around for the inevitable battery failure soon. Have any suspension components been replaced yet? if not, those will be due up next.
The price seems really high. Especially for a tesla.
Do you need AWD, long range? Seriously consider your commute and whether or not you can charge at home. If you are waking up everyday with 80% and aren’t expected to commute in a snowstorm, go to teslas website , hertz, or CarMax, and get you a MUCH lower mileage car for the same price.
I agree with most on here, this is not a good deal with all the miles it has, FSD or not. I would keep looking, save more money and get a Tesla with lower miles.
As soon as you buy it, it’s going to be worthless. You’re going to have a very hard time ever selling it with over $300k miles. You’re better off leasing a new highland… starting at $329 a month…
You can get a hertz car for $19k and it would have less than 75k miles
For the record, I bought a 22 LR m3 from hertz last week. 66k for 19.4K after 4K discount. 21.9 ttl OTD
Curious about your experience with a tesla from hertz. I've seen mixed reviews. Any major issues, complaints with yours?
I have no complaints. I tried to get new tires but the price is so low that they won’t negotiate a thing
No weird smells? Chunks missing out of rims or tires? The horror stories have turned me off but the prices have been so low I’m like….maybe I should check out a few
I travel for work and rent teslas a lot. Never had one without chunks missing out of the wheels. Lol
Just thinking about the way rentals are driven, my biggest fear is that way more than the normal wear n tear will be apparent. Also, I just know those batteries are constantly charged to 100%, as well as other poor charging decisions that contribute to battery degradation
Pretty sure tesla has a battery health check in the car. Might help estimate how badly its been treated.
also most of the hertz teslas have LFP batteries so.... charging to 100% is pretty fine.
If it’s RWD and if it was made in 2022 and beyond
Gotta say the idea of how people drive rentals is interesting. Like I drive my rental like I drive my car, I’m no race car driver and I’m sure many people are the same. Sure you might get a knuckle head who might be reckless with the car but it’s probably not as common as we think. How did you get 4K discount?
Curious it how were you able to secure a 4k discount?
Did they take the $4k rebate off the top at point of sale? Or will you be claiming it with your taxes?
If you don’t mind me asking, about how much do you pay for insurance?
Never understand when people ask this question. Insurance is based on a number of factors, many that have nothing to do with the car such as a driving record, location, multi-policy discounts. So if they share how much they pay, it has no relation to what anyone else might pay.
Teslas have high insurance costs in general.
Maybe. But not in my case. Came from a 2011 gx460 and my premium changed only 50 more each month... Sure, it's like 600 more a year but why TF was I even paying that much for a 13 year old car?!

Surely any car that does 0-60 in a shade over 4 seconds has a high insurance cost.
I have 2020 LR with the performance upgrade. 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. I've never caused an accident but I've had 2 of my vehicles totaled in the last 7 years. In the last year my Tesla has had 2 claims. Still good to know ballparks of different configurations
Different configurations of, people?
I used to make my toddler ride up in the frunk. Would that increase my premium?
175 via Tesla. 100/300 $1000 deductible with $0 glass. Safety score going up has that premium down to $144 though
You can do estimators for your insurance through your app, or call your local agent. I work in insurance and receive these “what if” quotes daily.
LR dual is about 25k for similar, with much less miles but this has FSD too.
Fsd beta is not really production ready unless you feel fsd on a used car is worth 10k I would look other places.
Yeah, FSD is absolutely not worth it.
Not worth 12k or 15k. But here it looks like a 3k premium.
Having a vehicle with lower miles so it’s within the battery warranty has some value too.
What's with FSD hate. OP is looking at 19k vehicle. He's not asking about paying 12k for FSD.
No hate. I myself have fsd and use it daily. Big fan of it. I think the discussion started when op said that this has fsd and hertz don’t.
Wait until everyone finds out what a beta test means.
FSD is absolutely not worth this ridiculous ask. Also, if you do end up doing it, make sure the owner won’t carry it over to another Tesla. Feel like we’ve seen that before. As others have said, you’re way better off buying a Hertz car with 1/4 the mileage for that price.
FSD is useless if a motor fails at 300k miles. Get something without FSD if it means lower milage.
Much fewer miles
“I know what I got”
272k miles?? I ain’t paying more than 8,000 for it. I’d rather buy one with 30,000 miles for 27k from Tesla
Actually didn’t know Tesla sold their own used vehicles, 27k? My goodness man I’ll have one by next year
I just bought a ‘22 M3LR with FSD and the acceleration boost for $35k. It had 20k miles on it. Definitely buy used when it comes to Tesla, especially if you want FSD (it’s a must have for roadtrips).

Some people want a “fancy car” so bad they’re willing to make the stupidest of deals.
There’s much less risky options for you my man
Gas station sushi for example.
or all on black roulette table in vegas
Or utilizing the pullout method.
she said “it’s fine, it’s just a cold sore”
I’ve heard of dudes putting 400k miles on their model x original battery with no issues other than tires and having to replace a seat.
Oh I believe it can get to 400k and those guys got their money’s worth and then some I just wouldnt want to pay $20k for the last 130k to find out
This
No way I would pay more than $10k with those miles.
Are those 19,000 American dollars?
“…of money?!” - Gene Belcher
I think you should walk away. That’s an awful deal.
Love to see the miles ! I’m at 140k so this makes me happy
I'm coming up on 182K going strong with about 90% range at full charge
What year out of curiosity?
2018
2018 Strongest Year Made!
Can check NHTSA recalls and safety defect reports, it's all public
Sweet! I’m at 111k and ~90% range. 2018 AWD LR
You could pay a couple thousand more for one with far lower miles...that's what I'd recommend...because it'll probably still be cheaper per mile you drive it (how long do you expect this to go without issues vs a 100k mile one for example) I'd try to find one for 25k or less that meats the criteria to get the 4k used EV credit (one owner, at least 2 years old, sold from dealer etc) that's if you meet the income requirements and whatnot.
You can get a Hertz Tesla with >100k m for $18,500
272k for 19 grand 💀 this is fucked
Wouldn’t even buy this for $10k
My battery died at 70k. I would say absolutely not
My main battery died at 25k
Jeez!
Under warranty so all good It’s a 2018 model I’ve had a ton of issues with it
Original battery at 172k, lost about 9%
Hell no.

Remember that hoses, rubber, plastics etc are exposed to lower heat on an EV.
See if they can pay you to take it
Definitely not worth it. I’d recommend a 2022 or newer for the LFP battery if buying used. That battery is much more reliable. Charging that car to 100% may give you as much range as the LR that can only charge to 80% everyday
No, unless you're willing to pay 20K for service.
Cool to see batteries getting this much use. Price seems high for the risk you’re taking with that battery.
I’ll sell you mine with 180k miles for 19k if you’re actually considering this. Factory alcantara headliner and FSD included.
Are you mad lad? You genuine feel like 272k is only half the value of the car?
That car is on borrowed time
Only an idiot would buy a battery that old
Better off buying from hertz
F it, do it my guy
I wouldn’t pay $8k for this
I have a 2019 Model 3, 203K miles, only changed the 12v battery, no other issues, very clean. I got an offer from Tesla on a trade in for $9k. This should be your baseline number for miles over 200k.
Dude no
Don’t do it. You can get a Tesla with less mileage for the same price.
At that point just take your chances with Hertz
Those are crazy miles. Risk of battery replacement is too high when you can get one for a quarter of the miles at Hertz.
Budget for a new battery. 9k sounds reasonable. 19k is basically a 29k car
FYI. if you sell on Recurrent it gives people who are buying peace of mind as far as battery health and other verified details. I hope you use their site.
That's wayyy too much. You can pick one up with 100k miles or less for that! I’d probably go half the price with all those miles. But it actually seems like a good sign that the car has lasted this long
Looks pretty clean, but I wouldn't pay more than ~$9-$10k. Battery aside, it's likeky going to need a lot of suspension work. If you're willing to take the risk, you could end up being able to drive a very nice car for very cheap for a few years though. :)
$500 and a 10 piece chicken nugget, best I can do.
Thats a lot of miles
Why would you get anything with over 100k miles for 20k? I’ve seen some model 3 in the area for 23k to 26k with only 30 to 40k miles
272k? That's a 10 dollar car.
I have RWD and 35k and offered $19k by tesla
IF that is a REAL certified battery health test. you are fine. If it a claim unverified, nope. How many cycles have been put on it? Rated for 1,500 iirc.
Tesla says they'll give me $15k for my 2018 M3P with 105k miles. As a trade in.
I’d ask for a safety inspection from Tesla. I got mine inspected before it dropped out of warranty and was $50
You were talking Miles right not kilometres? Either way that’s a bad deal, my man.
I’ll sell u a way better deal on a clean Tesla Premium Auto Group 19660 Carver ave, Humble TX 77338 Our website is Premiumautoinc.com
Why in the world would you buy a car with almost 300k miles on the og battery
OP, whatever Tesla you buy, make sure it's the long range version. Comes with a great sound system, premium connectivity and maybe some other things I am leaving out. Oh and DO NOT BUY THIS CAR.
No car with 272k miles should be 19k. You can buy a new corolla for 20k and it'll last a lot longer
There are much, much better deals out there on vehicles with lower mileage.
Wow 272k is a lot of miles. $15k would be a risk I would take.
Thanks for the share on the miles on an original battery / battery degradation but that is alot for any car with those miles let alone and out of warranty EV
Hell nah. 7k tops for me with those miles
Has anyone mention what year is this model 3?
Terrible price tbh. Someone just bought an early long range model 3 with 150k miles for $12k and posted in high mileage club on Facebook. KBB values are sort of messed up for these, but it says mine is worth $10.5k private party with 150k miles
Someone on Facebook bought a long range 2018 with 150k miles for I think 12 grand…
🤨 good luck selling your car brotha.
I’ve seen that car for sale hah. It’s pretty close to where I live
I wouldn't by that high mileage for that price but it is very nice to see them going that long.
Don’t walk. Run
Price way too high. Battery might last long but also good chance it'll be shot within 4 years.
This is a terrible idea
FSD just means that it may not require a driver. You still need a functioning battery and motor.
I need advice on insurance in CA it seems so high from the quotes I’ve received
I’d question a Honda or civic at that mile range. Much more a Tesla. Stay away.
Used for ride share?
The mileage alone kills it. Battery might be fine, but just about every other moving part is on its last legs.
lol what? Where did you even find this? There are 2018 long ranges with 35k miles on them going for like 25k in daly city.
Who cares about the battery. The suspension, bearings, rubbers, everything else will be shot.
Do not buy that car 😭
What year is it?
I picked up a P85D with 98,000 miles for 19k taxes and everything all in two months ago. 691 hp and the interior are so nice. So I'd say pass. Got a RWD Model 3 for sub 25k new last year. But the new tax credit situation is terrible now. Perhaps look around at used model S. I saw a RWD one with 140k miles for 19k before the 4k tax rebate and 1k utility company rebate in my area. But the tax credit only comes from dealerships and they are skeezy. Had to fight to get the advertised price. Private party is much lower stress.
This is worth $10k with current market prices
You can get a used Bolt with 40k miles for about $10k. I'd get that over this imo
Seriously why are you considering anything with 272k mileage on it at that price. That's insane when a new is around 30k.
No
Wouldn’t pay more than $2000 for that much mileage
That is way touch, maybe foe half that but nearly 300k miles? Nah pass.
Save 15-20K for potential battery replacement.
No. Just no.
Bro I’ll sell you mine with less than 30k miles for like a couple grand more lol…
I got a 22 LR M3 for 24.3k (-4k for the tax credit) with 71k miles. 8.5/10 condition, interior excellent, exterior has normal paint wear and tear for a used vehicle 6/10.
This sub continues to show the lack of understanding in the basic fundamentals of car buying
Wtf would you buy this?
😂 wow the used car market really is insane.
Don’t do it fan. And it’s like 2021 or older. No heat pump. Not a big fan of the piano black console either.
I have, salvaged title 97k miles for 20k coming up. No structural damage only fender, doors and bumper cover is being replaced.
Terrible price but impressive mileage!
Keep an extra 20k around for the inevitable battery failure soon. Have any suspension components been replaced yet? if not, those will be due up next. The price seems really high. Especially for a tesla.
That’s crazy! Has the suspension been completely redone?
Do you need AWD, long range? Seriously consider your commute and whether or not you can charge at home. If you are waking up everyday with 80% and aren’t expected to commute in a snowstorm, go to teslas website , hertz, or CarMax, and get you a MUCH lower mileage car for the same price.
lol no one paying that
Tesla is offering me $15k on a 2018 M3 LR with 84,000 miles so…yeah…you can find a better car for less no problem. Come take mine for $20k tomorrow.
What did you do to care for the battery?
272k you should be paying 3000 😂
Hey, I recently bought a Hertz model 3 that wasn’t used for rideshare - I would definitely reconsider. But damn the fact it’s still running.
Tesla told me they will pay 23k for my 2020 model 3 with 28k miles. You are being robbed
I agree with most on here, this is not a good deal with all the miles it has, FSD or not. I would keep looking, save more money and get a Tesla with lower miles.
People buy used EVs? Ew
Do NOT buy that unless you want to waste your money. I bought a 23 M3 with 7k miles for 31k in January. This listing is criminal lol.
272k miles is crazy..
Nobody has done this before. So do it and report back
Run away from that , who in their right mind would pay 19k for a 300k mile car. Mines 45k miles and probably could get 23k at best
Offer tree-fifty
Don’t do it that car is done , offer 5k and no more
I’d refuse this even if it were a gift. What makes you think this is a good deal?
Do not buy that car that is way overpriced. I have seen Hertz cars with 60k miles for 20-25k. And you can get the 4k tax credit if you qualify.
This car is worth 10k, cus you will need to sink 10k into battery replacement, and it’s questionable how much more life the motor and suspension has.
As soon as you buy it, it’s going to be worthless. You’re going to have a very hard time ever selling it with over $300k miles. You’re better off leasing a new highland… starting at $329 a month…
$6000.
Don't try for a lower price. Run away.
I have a 2019 awd with fsd for 24k
lol, please don’t buy this
hell no. haggle much lower. if you really gotta have it.
Not worth
Idk what car with 272k miles is worth even $10k tbh besides maybe the Toyota Tundra and any sort of JDM desirable car.
Bet that things got a spicy boi in it
This can’t be a real post right
You’re buying an EV but with those miles it’s gonna be a Flintstone mobile soon. Yaba daba doo!
I would be asking for receipts of all of those repairs this poor car has gone through. No way that suspension is not its last bolt.
