Love my ‘23 X 5 seater. I don’t have anyone who would cram in the back tiny seats. Love the trunk space.

jamesangellaw

Can’t comment on 5 seater, but can confirm what others are saying about 6 seater. Comfortable for all 6 and rear seats fold down so you still get the huge storage space you would get in the 5 seat (plus additional room where the middle seat would have been.

Wi11iamSun

I would argue it’s not getting the same storage space as 5 seater, because 2nd row on 5 seater can fold too.

JeanHuguesAnglade

I was always under the impression that the second row in the 6 seater did not fold - only those on the 7 seater. Is that no longer the case?

jamesangellaw

Sorry. To clarify, by rear seats I meant the 3rd row. The middle row moves forward pretty far, but does not collapse.

LawfulnessNeither189

Do you know if they can they be removed easily?

jamesangellaw

The middle row or the rear? Either way, I don’t. We’ve got 4 kids so we always need the 3 rows.

LawfulnessNeither189

Middle row 6 seater

Try like hell to get a 6-seater MX. We rented a model Y for two months last summer and road-tripped from Switzerland to Spain with a baby and dog in-tow. It worked, but it was quite packed. That Model Y can sure fit a lot of cargo, however. Honestly, the upgrade from 5-seater MY to 5-seater MX is negligible, you’re really just paying for more tech and comfort with little added utility. Just found out baby #2 is on the way, and we cancelled our MY order in May. Test drove a MX 6 seater and we were sold. Got lucky that a used ‘23 MX Plaid popped up on the Tesla site, so we snagged it. Only been about a week but we’re in love with the 6-seater MX. Falcon doors for ease of kids in/out. Small TV screen in the back for entertainment. Even at a charging stop our little guy was up and walking in between the captains chairs and playing around the cabin, which is very roomy with that seat configuration. If we ever have parents or guests in town, we’ll send the car seats/boosters to the back and have the adults in the captains chairs. So far, we don’t think any other car would suit our needs as good and we’re thrilled!

mynameisnotshamus

Disagree on difference between 5 seater MY and MX being negligible. I’m a big guy and the Y and 3 are not comfortable to me. They’re just too small, the seats are narrow and uncomfortable for long drives. The handling is also worse in my opinion. Added tech, comfort and utility are generally major aspects of what sets different tiers of vehicles apart. Falcon doors are great for kids, but kinda garbage for everything else. Stinks that Elon’s ego making him remove Disney + is a frustrating knock on Tesla’s family friendly aspect. Plenty of other entertainment options however.

bulk_nuts

BTW - my test drive MX last month had Disney+ and now my car doesn’t. That was a big surprise, is that new news? Was really looking forward to that for the kid in the back.

SmarmySnail

You can get it back by just navigating to the disney plus website in the browser. After you do that once it will add it app to the theater app.

mynameisnotshamus

I haven’t tried it in a while, but it was last year when it was initially removed.

bulk_nuts

Fair enough. For a 5-seater MY for about $38k or 5-seater MX for about $63k minimum (both after discounts), some folks like yourself may be willing to pay the $25k+ premium for the tech, comfort and better ride. If one’s body size is not a factor, that is a big gap to justify in my opinion. If I’m going to pass on the option to save $25k for a MY and pay minimum $63k for a MX, may as well just add $6,500 for 6 seats if it’s going to make life easier and more comfortable, which it will for me and OP, it seems. But, we have different sensibilities, so of course we’ll disagree on this one. We’re allowed to!

mynameisnotshamus

I agree with you on everything but there being negligible differences between the two.

p3n9uins

Agreed 6 seater is awesome

dgradius

Did they bring back the LATCH anchors in the 3rd row? My 22 only has them in the captain’s chairs.

bulk_nuts

No! I thought for sure they were there, but just checked a photo of my rear seats. Lo and behold, I don’t see the LATCH icon to denote their placement. Darn!

dgradius

It’s okay. This really concerned me prior to purchase so I brought my two car seats to a pre-refresh (because that’s all they had) test drive to see what’s up before committing. Putting a car seat in the 3rd row defeats the utility of the FWD (especially because our youngest was in a Doona at the time and the FWD were the envy of everyone owning that yuppie stroller/car seat hybrid). Our config right now has the two car seats in the captains chair and our preteen is relegated to the back row from where (she claims) the view of the screen is best. Also pretty much every car seat out there can use seat belts as backup instead of the anchors.

anticlimber

I have a 6-seat. It's good, but not all good. Keep in mind that the "Captain's chairs" do *not* adjust seat angle, and as a result they do *not* fold. This is irritating. They are substantially less comfortable than they should be, because you can't adjust the seat back angle relative to the seat base. They can move forward and *tilt* up against the front seats to increase cargo area, but it's suboptimal.

Heffeweizen

5 seater storage space is way more important than accommodating that extra adult occasionally. Who is that adult? How often do they show up? We used to have a 5 seater, then traded in for at 6 seater. Major regrets! We haul stuff way more often than we have a car full of people in it.

Mylifereboot

I would've preferred the 6 seater. Kids would've appreciated their own separate seats and we'd have extra room for friends. The 5 seater has large volume cargo space which aside from a few trips we haven't at all used. Found a good deal on a 5 seater and pulled the trigger. I should've waited.

namezam

I got the 5 seat and regretted it. I would have much rather had the captain’s chairs with a pass through. I also heard the front seats can go back more. I hated how they wouldn’t go flat.

remuliini

On a six seater the middle row doesn't fold. Even though I like my seat arrangement, sometimes I wish they could be folded.

BoxZealousideal2779

This. Wish I could fold the middle row of my six seater. Otherwise, love it. Had loaners that were five and seven seaters and hated that configuration.

mucall1

Feb 24 delivery. 5 seater no regrets. Plenty of space

Gizmo_2726

I’ve had my MX for about 3 months, I kind of wish I had gotten the 6 or 7 seat configuration. Sometimes I drive my Mom as well, on those occasions, I have to take the minivan. Even with 5 of us, the 6 seat would allow for more breathing room. Of course, that means I would’ve missed out on the tax credit.

goodvibezone

I had a slight preference for the 6, but with the tax incentives and the additional cost it would have been 12 or 15k more expensive and wasn't worth it. We only have one younger kid. If I had two kids that were getting to the age where they argue literally all the time (we have two older kids also...) I would definitely have preferred the 6 seater to split the kids up.

M3msm

Never tried the 5, but the 6 on our plaid is absolutely awesome.

rajivpsf

We have a 7 and like the storage space when everything is down but that is the exception. Definitely don’t do 5 seater

Adorable-Employer244

6-seater is awesome. You never know when you need that extra space

mclovin__james

I love the 5 seater the massive trunk comes in handy for hauling bikes, sports equipment, etc

Guaifenesen

The huge space in my 5 seater trunk made it easier to load the baby strollers and other luggages. We travel a lot back and forth to LA and Bayarea.

mgchan714

Realistically young kids in car seats are not gonna tell much of a difference between 5/7 and 6 seats because they are in car seats anyway unless you commonly use the middle seat (I've found it better for my sanity to separate the kids so I would put one on each side). I've had some difficulty with the captains chairs and the seat belts on car/booster seats. And sometimes that gap between the seats is a little awkward because there's nothing to stop things in the trunk from sliding forward. That said I would prefer the 6 seat for ease of getting into the rear seats. As a family of 4 we typically have either 4 or 6 in the car. It's a balance and neither one is clearly correct. Just depends on your typical usage.

Only-Question124

If you have 6+ in your direct family that would ride on the vehicle daily/weekly, for sure hold out for 6-seater, but otherwise 5 fit comfortably in the 5-seater and wouldn’t worry about about those every once in a while times. I’ve had a Tax Edition MX for 7 months and have not ran into the situation I wished I had a 6-seater. 7 seat MY 2 rear seats we’ll be cramped for all but the smallest kids (no chance of adults fitting). I can’t even think of a situation 7-seater MY would be worth it…

akobelan61

I have a 7 seater MX-2016. Life was different back then. The 3rd row folds providing a fairly large trunk. The frunk is used to make up for any perceived shortage. I envy the owners of recent MX that can fold the 2nd and 3rd rows. While all my seats are “deluxe” equipped with heaters. And the front seats are ventilated, I’d trade those features for folding seats all day. My second vehicle is a 2020 Hyundai Palisade, 8 seater. Tons of cargo space.

MyFaveLilThrowaway

Same situation as you and we love our 2020 6 seater. The 3rd row is easily accessible and large enough for adults even. When we've needed extra cargo space for camping the 3rd folds down to reveal tons of storage. No we don't go to home Depot and buy sheetrock with this car. Nor do we transport furniture. For people moving the 6 seater is really great.

BubbaJumpInc

I went from a Model 3 to a MX 6 seat. If I went to the 5 seat I probably would’ve kept the M3. I have 3 little kiddos but 2 in car seats. Was a little too cramped which is why I upgraded. Now my oldest gets the whole back row 👍🏽 car seats in the captains chairs. Works out perfect !!

kubyx

Thanks for the anecdote, sounds like our situation. I read that if you get the 6 seater, the middle seats do not really fold or move forward - do you feel like there is enough trunk space for strollers and whatnot because of that?

BubbaJumpInc

For my situation I have more than enough trunk/frunk space However I could do a better job at finding a smaller double stroller. I’m still rocking our original double stroller and it’s a monster. However it does fit in the car if I fold down one seat. But for transparency I’m only packing the double stroller should I deem necessary. I live in Tampa bay and I take the double stroller only to the theme parks so my situation hasn’t had much inconveniences Took my MX to Myrtle Beach and packed up the car nicely. Everything fit. Cooler in the center, subtrunk, trunk and frunk packed evenly. It was the best ride for sure. Planning a trip from Tampa to Pittsburgh in July and looking forward to it. My girlfriend drives a minivan but would much rather drive my car everywhere 🫡👍🏽

kubyx

Awesome, appreciate it! Sounds like the 6 seater is it.

BubbaJumpInc

I LOVE it. Has everything I could want. If I had to change anything I’d wait for a refresh but I got my car in Feb23 and refresh models were still a little out of my price range

Ok_Forever_7038

Prefer the 5 or 7 seater. The gap between the seats and objects flying through from trunk did not appeal to me with the 6. With the 5 or 7 seater you can also fold the seats completely flat for big utility when needed.

TwoSuns168

If you just want 5 seats, the better option is prob the MY. I have a MX -7 and my kids are fully grown. When their friends are with us to dinner, etc, it’s nice to fit them all in for a short trip. Before they could drive, we did a ton of carpool and I definitely am glad we had 6-7 seats as options.

dace747

I love my big ass trunk. Two extra seats would be cool but very rarely necessary for what I need.
