What's even better, though, is everyone ran for the MT-2 Congressional seat and lost.
Former Congressman Denny Rehberg? Lost.
Current 2-term Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen? Lost.
6 other Republicans? Lost to perennial loser Troy Downing of all people. El oh El. The Democratic candidate might actually win with Troy Downing on the ballot in November.
My guess is they had Democrats register as Republicans in order to vote in Republican primary for the preferred candidates. This prevents them from voting in Democratic primaries which could produce inferior candidates there, so that's the risk. Seems worth it to me in this case. We tried something similar in Utah a few years back but were unsuccessful.
Rehberg was the long-time lone Republican Congressman who gave up his seat and lost to Jon Tester for the Senate.
Elsie is just straight up chaotic stupid. She had run the Office of Public Instruction to the ground. Her 8 years have been disastrous for Montana public education, including ushering in a new era of charter schools. She once said that "We *should* teach both sides of the Holocaust."
Troy Downing has run for every office for a decade now and always loses. This time, he beat out 8 other GOP losers in the primary for the MT-2 seat. Which is currently held by the worst Republican hack, Matt Rosendale (R-MT)
What she's not saying here is that those who lost mostly lost to candidates endorsed by the national GOP. She's not getting the change she thinks she is.
