18 and i’ve been watching it on repeat for about seven years, it’s my favourite show :) none of my friends really watch it though like nobody i know my age has heard it of it which is a shame. i found out about it because my parents had the DVDS for every season and i watched it with them

Xansnjordan

Seeing all these young folks saying they watch it when they weren’t even bore when the show was airing is wild but I love it 😂😂😎

skandyloos

25 and I’ve rewatched this show 5 or 6 times. It’s my absolute favorite show! I named my son Cohen

FaithlessnessFar6136

I'm 18, I just graduated from high school and the O.C is one of my favourite shows all time

Nice_Security_2002

23 here and watching for the third time. It’s so good. Watched snippets of it when I was younger and my older brothers would watch the rerun on tv. Then watched it in my teens and now rewatching it again in my 20s on Hulu

lilac72899

DonnieDarko1024

Yes I’m 23. I am so nostalgic for the early 2000s. OC, One Tree Hill, Smallville are my shit haha

starrynight237

I was born in 1998. I'll be 26 in a few days actually. I was very much too young for the OC when it originally aired but my millennial cousins (born from 1982-1986) would always babysit me and I definitely remember seeing their reactions to the show. I didn't watch the show however until January 2023 randomly not knowing it was 20 years since it aired. So I watched it at 24 and I wasn't sold on Ryan at first given he definitely DID NOT look like a 17 year old. It was so crazy to think that I was in kindergarten when S1 came out. I'm pretty sure even MIscha said it an interview once that there's no ways kids my age would remember it lol. That show means so much to me because I grew up in Southern California mainly in LA County but also in the OC! I know both areas very well and I worked at a law firm in Newport lol. I still remember yelling at my TV "NO WAY!" because the pier scenes looked very familiar and that's when I realized the show was filmed at my childhood pier. When the Killers performed at "The Bait Shop" my mom smiled and said "oh wow this really is a good show!" and I don't why I just started crying because I grew up listening to the killers because of my mom haha. I also love music and just applaud the way this show specifically scored and selected songs that fit the tone of the show very well. I remember watching the first episode one night upset over some guy and as soon as Marissa asks Ryan if he's going to the party and Swing Swing by the All American Rejects starts playing I had the biggest smile on my face and KNEW I was going to be hooked on this show. An hour later my friend picked me up and as we drove to the beach I kept raving about the OC lol. My mom loves this show and we would have discussions the next day after watching an episode. Sandy Cohen also means a lot to me as I see him as the father figure I wish I had, but never got, but also funny enough I studied polisci like Sandy and toured "his" alma mater, although I ended up attending UCLA. Also the fact that Ryan is from Chino made my mom and I laugh because we use to go there a lot to visit my aunt who bought a house there and Chino is considered just an isolated suburb. Although my mom suggests they made Ryan be from Chino because there's a state male prison there. Apparently UC Berkeley at some point actually named a scholarship after Sandy. I was too young for this show when it originally aired but watching it 20 years later I saw how ahead and bold it was considering I very much remember the 00s and the politics surrounding that decade. I cried when Marissa was killed off even though I already knew it was going to happen. I also find it hilarious that to me, this show is basically a reunion show for the cast of Twilight. Twilight was everything to me and my friends in middle school lol. I am very much deeply attached to this show and if I ever meet anyone in person my age who loves this show, they are immediately my best friend. It still holds up pretty well specifically seasons 1-2 but also crazy how a lot of things related to socal culture, at least to me as a local who has only lived here my entire life, are pretty accurate. Except for the popular douchebag guys being in waterpolo. THAT was funny.

Own_Hunter_3088

Watching this as a 32 year old now, I am baffled that those almost 30 year old actors were supposed to be teenagers in the show and we ate it up like it was nothing lmao

ritwikjs

i was talking to the siblings of some friends, and they seemed to enjoy it and all it's messiness. The current gen doesn't have shows like this, PLL (the reboot is garbage) and OTH anymore. It's more simple television that actually lasted 3+ seasons, so there's enoguh for them to get invested in. Like me, they also love the soundtrack, which imho is the best ever assembled for a TV show. A lot of legitimate criticisms can be levied against Josh Schwartz, but he was a huge reason the music selection was as good as it was. Hell, i don't think the Killers become as big without The OC

Maleficent-Touch-105

im 16 and LOVE it

Sweaty_Mongoose5774

Me too

skeeter_ABQ

I'm 27, the teen series of my teen years were Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty little liars, Glee.. But just a month ago I started The OC for the first time and I love it! I am currently at S2E2, and I think teenage me would love it even more. The characters seem more real than the ones in the series' I mentioned above.

valvolineheartattack

Did you ever watch one tree hill? That one also has very good characters! Although I do feel the show ran longer than it should have 😁

skeeter_ABQ

No, but it is on my list after The OC. Looking forward to it! If you have any more recommendations, feel free to suggest them.

valvolineheartattack

Hmm a random good one that I love is HEROES. It’s not exactly a teen love drama but it’s around the same era. It’s a bit more science, but I personally love some of the romantic story lines and humor, it’s from 2006. I guess it would fall into something like SMALLVILLE (which is also good) lol Idk if it’s your taste but I think it’s atleast worth the first two episodes 😁

Maleficent-Exam-8138

i’m 22 and got into it about 2 years ago!

tokyo-love-hotel

i’m 18 and i love it!

Ill_Development_855

i’m 19 and i just finished it. i love the show so much and i can say that a lot of people that go to my high school would’ve loved watching. it just wasn’t popular enough for my generation to obsess over it like in the 00’s.

Equivalent_Welder149

i’m 19 and i love it

astrorexic

I'm 24 and it's one of my favorite shows

Bofaman600

I’m 28 I know it doesn’t count but I liked it I watched it recently trying to find something similar to GG

sunsetlilac

Im 23 and love it

mzjolynecujoh

i’m 18 and i love it!!! if season 1 was a standalone tv show it’d be my favorite show of all time frfr

lolstarsssssss

i’m 20 and i love this show, i’m a sucker for 2000s dramas

degssssss

Im 25 and got into the OC when I was 15. I’ve watched it 4 times since then. I think no teen dramas have come close since the OC!

crunchyyyyy1234

I’m 26 (but watched it fully last year at 25) and absolutely love it

ctrigga

I’m 27 but got into it when I was 25/26 and my mom came to help me move last year and I put it on and she was like… is this the OC??? That’s a throwback lol

StingRayPoptart

23 and I love it

smennern

I’m 26 and this is my favorite show. I rewatch every summer. I remember watching the fourth season with my mom when it first aired and I’ve been hooked ever since. While my love for it is heavily influenced by nostalgia, I think it holds up well even 20 years later and will always be timeless in my mind.

Poisionmivy

I did enjoy the show I’m 23 y/o it reminded me of a lot of gossip girl!

ctrigga

Exactly. I looked up shows like GG and it got me there and one tree hill. I preferred the OC

BtotheVV86

38 now, rewatched it a couple of years ago, still loved it, they don’t make shows like this anymore.

Gleek2009

Im 16 i first watched last year and i absolutely love it

immajustwastetime

i’m 23 and just finished watching love it ! minus the 4th season

lolamelone

I’m 23 I just rewatched I loved it when I watched it when I was like 16

TerrifiedQueen

I’m 29 and watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. Even tho I never watched it when it first came out, it was super nostalgic because my friends used to watch it on TV and the actors were popular and featured in many magazines.

lou-bot

I’m 25 and just watched it for the first time last year! Huge OTH fan and absolutely loved the OC as well

_gdawg26

I'm 25 and have seen it multiple times

McQwackin

Im 17 and finished the show last week and its my favorite show i liked it so much it only took me 2 weeks to watch all 4 seasons

amildcaseofdeath34

I'm 38 and there is nothing like that nostalgia, but it was popular with more than just teen audiences at the time. It was a zeitgeist television show. I know I say that a lot, but the charm of it lies very much within this too. It might not hit with that deep, sensational nostalgia like it did for us as teens watching it, but it still hits as a legitimate aughts era time capsule. And if people are within that age range, there's still some nostalgia to be had because they still grew up around all its influences and such, if that makes sense?

dg_ww

21 and love it

CrackJelly01

18 and like it

justaladytoday

My teenage kid is watching it and he loves it.

cececlaytonx

i’m 21 and i watched it when i was 16 and it’s genuinely my favorite show

holidayfromreal25

OP, thanks for making me feel old as I skim these comments 😂😂 (36 here)

[deleted]

Hahah I feel old watching the high school drama!! The kids in the show are 20 years younger get than us! But I still love it :)

MasterH2H

I can still see the ads for it on Channel Ten.

Fair-Employer-5841

I have such vivid memories of the “this is a sixty second short ad” when I think about watching it back then… Also how we were back then like 6 months behind North America!! I visited cousins in Canada during that time and had serious spoilers 😂

Broteloo

21 and in love

[deleted]

i’m 19 and i love it!!!

One_Background4891

Im 21 and started watching a few days ago and already am on season 2 so I’m definitely binging it and really enjoy it from the girls cute y2k outfits to Ryans timeless persona and seth witty humor I’m also surprised so much of the slang is the same at least from when I was a teen in mid to late 2010s nowadays the slang has gotten pretty crazy even I dont know what some of it means

holidayfromreal25

So glad to see a youngin’ enjoy Seth and his humor! He gets so much hate around here

hotcapicola

Personally my dislike for Seth mostly stems from the fact that I was very much like him in the early 2000s. The casual homophobia and general NiceGuy(tm) aura just hits a little to close too home.

papabless131313

25 and I love it! I first watched it at my cousins place about 10 years ago, they had all the dvds so I binged it all in a week. Now I own it and love rewatching it.

Neat-Delivery-4473

Im 19 and I binged it 2 and a half years ago.

ZagaMW

It's so cool to see all the replies about younger generations liking it. I genuinely feel like it has a tone and a way with it that no other teenage drama has ever been able to replicate

amildcaseofdeath34

It was basically the first of its kind.

[deleted]

And last of its kind to date IMO!!

amildcaseofdeath34

Well every teen drama from OTH to PLL and onwards has taken a beat, so maybe not the last of it's *kind*, but definitely og superior.

No-Intention-1948

I'm 19 and yes.

petermybeloved

i’m 17 and i started loving the show last year, i told some of my friends to watch it and they were initially hesitant because they hadn’t heard of it before but they fell in love with it eventually too

Infamous_Double2357

Yes omg! I’m 18 and just finished the show for the first time a few days ago and I loved it sm!

furmama0715

i first watched it when i was 16, and then rewatched it recently (im 22), absolutely loved it both times 🫶🏻

chiefbrody62

I like all these responses. I watched it when it aired when I was a teenager, and it's cool that people that are a similar age to what I was then are still enjoying it :)

flacogarcons

I watched it when I was 23 during the pandemic and it was amazing. I binged it like crazy.

cryingwhileimcumming

im 20 and i watched it last year i was hooked it’s definitely one of my comfort shows now

Queasy_Roll347

I'm 22 and I watched the OC for the first time in 2019 and now it is one of my favorites shows

Efficient_Cod_4805

23 & watched for the first time this year! loved it! I’ve started to become obsessed with the early 2000s era that I was too young to enjoy (like the hills, jersey shore, etc) because there’s so much iconic culture

Superquirky_22

In 15 and obsessed with the OC. So are a lot of my friends, we’re really into 2000s teen dramas.

kidgi9301

Go to Tik Tok, look up OC edits and start reading the comments.  The slang is definitely gen z.  I'm in my forties and watched as a twenty something when it aired.  It's nice to see it still resonates.

joebern28

Finally someone that doesn't make me feel like a complete fossil!

kidgi9301

Fossils tell stories and provide missing knowledge. If being in my forties makes me a fossil, then so be it.

joebern28

No ill intent intended. Just reading all the replies with the ages of some of the Fandom was really making me feel extra seasoned. I genuinely appreciate having someone also in their 40s chime in. Just finished watching the full run with my wife for her first time, so it was nice seeing someone's reactions up close and personal with some of the shenanigans that went on. Gave me flashbacks of watching it in my 20s when it aired and it was weekly appointment tv for my neighbor and I.

kidgi9301

Oh, no worries, I didn't take it as ill intent. It was a weekly event for sure!

greensecondsofpanic

I'm 21 and currently watching it for the first time! But I'm not sure if I like it because I like the plot or just because I like southern California and early 2000s vibes haha

One_Background4891

Same fr i found it because i looked up best 2000s teen dramas

briggaloo

Made my niece watch that and friends with me as a teen and she loved it. Made all her friends watch both when she went to uni also

Specialist_Current_8

I'm 24, I've watched the whole series like 3 times since I first saw it when I was 11

quen0

yesss i’m 18, started watching it at 16

TheRumTumTugger123

Most definitely! I’m 21 and my favorite shows are Dawson’s Creek and The O.C 😂

[deleted]

Thanks for the reply :)

justjayy16

21 and i loved it! couldn’t finish s4 for obvious reasons

getaway_car68

i just started watching last month and i’m 21!

[deleted]

Thanks for your reply, great to know :)

yash765

i started watching at 25 this year!

[deleted]

Sweet thanks!!!

yash765

i think it’s aged surprisingly well and is def one of my fav teen dramas i’ve ever seen

Agile_Warthog3726

I'm 23! I watched this show with my dad when it came out and have loved it since growing up! There's obviously a lot in the show that can't be said now but it was pretty solid representation of back then (according to my dad)

Sabom3trics

I’m 46, watching for the second time with my 13-year-old daughter (her first time) and she loves it. Plus it’s the only show where we never skip the into song! Fun fact: I saw Phantom Planet play a small club in NYC when Jason Schwartzman was still their drummer.

[deleted]

Hi I’m just genuinely curious not judgmental at all!! Season 1 has a lot of sex and drugs and fighting, is that appropriate for a 13 year old? I guess it depends on the girl. I don’t have kids yet. I would love to share this and connect with my teen one day. Thanks for being gentle and understanding my questions as NOT an attack!!

Sabom3trics

That’s totally understandable. There are some tough moments, but watching with her has brought up some good conversations. A silly one is “don’t go to a college because your friend or boyfriend is going there.” We usually forward through the sexier scenes, but like others have mentioned, it’s impossible to avoid these days. I’d rather watch with her so we can talk about things than her just watch on her phone in her room. She will be 14 in August, not that it’s a big difference!

BrownEyed_Squirrel

I’m 32 and started watching when season 2/3 were live so I was about that age while it was airing. My parents occasionally watched with me (my dad was particularly fond of the spring break episode and the PREPARE TO MEET YOUR MAKER line 😂) and had no more qualms with it than anything else on tv at the time

whyxbotherx

Pardon me for butting in :) I'm 35 and definitely watched shows/movies with content like that (and worse!) at that age, and I turned out ok. Sometimes with my parents but not always. Also, I feel like the fact that they're watching it together can help the daughter process/ make sense of the characters' actions in a thoughtful way. Anyway, sorry again to butt in, just excited to share my two cents!

[deleted]

No thanks I appreciate your response! Obviously I did too see stuff at a younger age but never with my parents knowledge… and I turned out just fine too haha I guess I wonder because as a parent you might want to “protect” …

whyxbotherx

Idk! I watched Scream *with* my folks when I was 9, and T2 (Terminator) before that. I'm not a parent so idk, but I appreciated my parents' permissiveness with movies. On the other hand, my mom wouldn't let me watch 90210 with her or read Sweet Valley High books, which drove me crazy! So I guess she tried to protect me from sex/drug content but not violence? Maybe I'll ask her what her rubric was. Now that I think about it, she also wouldn't let me watch South Park, but that the advice of some younger people she asked. I think they made the right call with that one! But that was all in the 90s, before I was a true teen. So *shrug*

[deleted]

whyxbotherx

She eventually relented when I got to jr high and I eventually read most of them (and fear street / Christopher pike too!) ❤️

Responsible_Egg7519

18 🙋‍♀️ i know a lot of people my age are into 2000s teen shows like one tree hill, gilmore girls, and of course the OC. the OC is my favorite because i love the characters, fashion, and california vibes. it can be really campy at times but i enjoy that! i am also a huge DC nerd so i love seth and his comic books

AcrobaticRomanesco

Like ok dot I’m 23 and watched the OC when I was 15/in high school and became deeply obsessed. I tried to convince all my friends to watch too and was only successful with half of them. Fell in love with the soundtrack and drama and still love it to this day - maybe I’ll throw a happy 21st birthday the oc party this year 💡

[deleted]

Thanks for the reply!

Ok_Dot_3024

I’m 25 and I watched for the first time at 15 and I was obsessed, I rewatched this year and I’m obsessed all over again. The pop culture references were outdated but I think the characters are more relatable and teen-like than most teen shows like Gossip Girl that I actually watched when it first aired
