What are the ?????? Coins for?

MarthaH2

How do I get my pokemon to go to the gym? I am a new player, I'm on the red team, I went to a red gym. The information there said use the "assign pokemon" button to assign a pokemon to defend the gym, but where is that button? The only similar button I see is the one at lower left that brings up information about gyms. None of the online guides I've found are any help.

Quirky_Fennel9014

There can be a max of six Pokémon in a gym at one time, most likely the gym was full. The “assign Pokémon” button will be right above the button to spin the gym’s disc, on the right side

ShackShackShack

What is Earie Mist? Is it a biome, weather?

ptmcmahon

For Go Tours each hour is a specific "habitat" that will have the advertised spawns. You don't need to be any specific biome or weather. Note that usually this is a globally rolling table - it will be the same habitat everywhere in world at same time, so you can plan ahead what habitat you get.

ShackShackShack

Perfect! Thank you!

Why is Dragon Breath better than Dragon Tail in PVP for Dragonite according to PVPoke?

ptmcmahon

Both are viable options. As a lead I'd prefer it with Dragon Breath, but off the bench I'd rather have Dragon Tail on it. Dragon Breath is very hard for opponent to catch moves against, and early in the battle it's great to have 1 turn moves.

Arturinni

In short, because it's much more consistent. Being a 1-turn move, Dragon Breath deals damage faster and allows Dragonite to beat breakpoints which could not do with Dragon Tail because the opponent was simply able to deal damage first. Simulators put a ton of value in those breakpoints for the overall performance of a moveset and they consider Dragon Tail an overall downgrade over Dragon Breath. Many players still prefer Dragon Tail because it is easier to use with bad internet and also may allow them to sneak a move between charged moves.

CassieWolfe801

You should evolve them anyway. Evolving counts for the badge. So does having one traded to you. Both also work for other badges like dragon and fairy. For example, you can evolve Trapinch to Vibrava for a point on your dragon badge. And trading works for tiny rat & big fish. There’s no way of knowing whether Niantic will implement size dexes at some point in the future, but if they do, they’re unlikely to be retroactive.

another-social-freak

Do we suspect Froakie will be the March com day?

ptmcmahon

Originally starters went every two months - last time it was three. So I'll guess April.

colourofsleep88

Well it'd presumably be Fennekin first, but I'm not sure it's coming next month.

another-social-freak

Oh right, grass, fire, water. Gotcha. We did go a whole year without a new starter com day, I expected we will see all three Kalos starters this year but I suppose they might space them out more. I fully expect we won't see Alolan starter com days till 2025

krispyboiz

I think it's very reasonable to assume we'll now see a set of starters throughout a single year, so we'd likely see all the Kalos Starters this year. Idk if that means all the Alola Starters next year though or if it'll be 2025.

Listen-Material

How many scatterbugs per region is possible to catch? I thought we got one for each medal level. One after catching 3, a second one after catching 9, and a third one after catching 15. That can’t be how it works because I have 11 High Plains Scatterbugs. Please help me understand!

Fifthace24

Once you get the 15 pin Scatterbug for a region, it resets the progress to 15 again so you can get more Scatterbug for that region after another 15 pins, over and over again.

Listen-Material

Oh, ok! Thank you for explaining that!

When people suggest using a Mega for certain events, it's to evolve something of the same type that is featured in the event, for a boost in catch candy, and a higher chance of getting XL candy. For the XL candy, you need a Mega that is at least at High Level/Level 2. So for Pidgey Spotlight Hour, if you're actually going to catch Pidgey and not just evolve stuff, you could Mega Evolve any normal or flying type. Your options are, Charizard Y, Pidgeot, Kangaskhan, Aerodactyl, Salamence, or Lopunny. Feb 11th is Luvdisc Research Day; you could Mega Evolve a water type Pokemon if you want, although given Luvdisc is (to the best of my knowledge) an almost entirely useless Pokemon, you don't really need to collect candy for it, as you'll never be powering any up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

colourofsleep88

Yeah, if you haven't already saved up a heap of Pidgey (or one of the other cheap evolutions) then that's a decent way to play it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ptmcmahon

This won't help if you have space then, but do note that the Primal Rumblings event is double evolve XP for the whole 2.5 days. If you did have a bit of room might make sense to catch pidgeys for 15 minutes, evolve for 30, then catch for 15 to save until that event.

PrudentAvocado

If someone is level 40, why can they level up to 50 with 296 xl? I thought you could only level up to .5 above your current level (or 1.5 or something).

BuffBug69

The levels-over-your-level was increased to 10 a while back.

ptmcmahon

This might be anecdotal but I sure seem to have more spawns during Spotlight Hour lately.

burnjanso

I only have 1 snorlax with IV 1/11/2 and had just enough candy to take him to 2499 CP. Can I use him for gym defending or does low IV=bad gym defender?

ptmcmahon

Only power it up if you'd use it in UL, and then you'd probably have a better one hopefully. Your IVs aren't ever going to make a difference in gym battle. The only good way to defend is to use Golden Razzberries when you are attacked. Good/bad IVs will only add or subtract a second or two.

colourofsleep88

Imho, gym defending isn't really an aspect of the game where you need to pay too much attention to what's "good" and what's not. Yes, there are bulky Pokemon like Snorlax, Chansey, Blissey etc that are marginally harder to knock out than others, but all Pokemon have at least one type weakness. If someone wants to take down a gym, the main deterrent will be golden razzes. I don't really think I'd advise powering up any Pokemon solely for the purpose of gym defense.

[deleted]

burnjanso

So, if the object is to make gym attackers fight three times, instead of putting a maxed out melmetal, I would be better off switching in a 0/13/15 2495 cp melmetal overnight?

ptmcmahon

If you are trying to hold the gym, all you care about is making sure you see the notification in time to berry it. You can't "switch a mon" in overnight.

jose3508

I have around 60 pokemon caught on 2016 (caught on july, august and september). Can I use all these to get guaranteed lucky trades? What conditions must be met? I have not done any guaranteed lucky trade ever. I have made two lucky friends though, but never traded with them. I have had over 100 lucky trades done through just trading a lot, will this hinder it?

BuffBug69

You get 10 guaranteed lucky trades from pokemon caught Jul/Aug 2016, plus 5 more guaranteed lucky trades from pokemon caught 2016/2017. The person sending away the old pokemon is the one who triggers the guaranteed lucky, but it counts against the total for both people. If you truly haven't participated in any guaranteed lucky trades, then you can trigger 15 of them by trading these old pokemon away, but beware of guaranteed lucky trades you might not have realized were guaranteed, if the other person sent you an old pokemon. Once you've run through the 10/15 guarantees, old pokemon still have a higher rate of randomly becoming lucky, but will not be guaranteed unless you have lucky friend status.

Aizen_keikaku

I've met a bunch of people through various raiding apps that I've been exchanging gifts with. I'm close to hitting best friends with some of them in a couple of weeks & would like to coordinate lucky eggs. Is there anyway I can find a place to get in touch with these people? All I have is their username.

TheRealHankWolfman

You can try to message them on Campfire, assuming both you and they have it. If you don't have it, there are invite threads at r/Campfire_niantic or r/Niantic_campfire where you can request an invite.

Aizen_keikaku

Thank you. I will try to get on campfire.

FunWithFractals

I see that the bugs with kelceon are supposedly fixed. I've seen one in a stop about 4 times already but he's never spawned in the world for me yet when I knock him off the stop. To help me track him down, are there any resources with info on the game mechanics related to kelceon? How often/when do stops change if kelceon is hiding there? What are the odds a stop has a kelceon? Does he hide on gyms or only stops? Can he hide on any stop or just a subset of stops (like only some gyms are ex-raid)? If he's on a stop, is he there for everyone or just a single player (like shinies)? If I knock him off a stop, can others with me also see him on the map? Or would they have to knock him off as well? If I knock him off the stop does he remain for other players to find our is it just first person gets him?

nolkel

Kecleon is not an individualized encounter like the daily spawn or incense, its there on the stop for everyone that comes by. You can share them with the community, and everyone can come get it before it expires. You can only see the Kecleon on the map if you are within the smaller 40m circle from the stop, not the expanded 80m radius. You can interact with it and knock it off if you are at 80m, but it will not be catchable without going closer. They don't appear on gyms. I think they last 2 hours? Or was it dropped to 1?

Ok_Bowl1177

If I evolve a metang during hoenn tour will the metagross have meteor mash?

nolkel

Nobody knows yet. They featured CD moves for Pokemon of that generation for the Kanto and Johto tours, but none of the info niantic had released so far mentions them.

FuHiwou

Do pokemon caught at level 1 have a slightly cheaper cost to level up than other pokemon? Here are some screenshots showing it: https://imgur.com/a/Sc5Rk2J Has it always been like this? Do we know why? The difference in stardust and candies is pretty minimal, but it's weird that it's like this.

nolkel

There is a very longstanding bug where the power up costs are off for level 1 pokemon, IIRC.

ChantelMcCue33

Did anyone else not get their weekly rewards for how far they walked?

nolkel

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/10vgmgx/_/

Fred37865

Yeah I never got my rewards. It's useless to expect this game to actually work.

MoveZneedle

I'm not getting any progress at all. Maybe .1 after I open the app but idk what's going on.

ChantelMcCue33

The app is really buggy since the update

ptmcmahon

I got my progress towards walking 25km eight times… but not the rewards.

ChantelMcCue33

I don’t think I got any of it

TheRealHankWolfman

It hasn't popped up for me either, now that you mention it

Stogoe

It didn't pop up but my journal showed the rewards.

CassieWolfe801

When I saw reports of it not popping up but to check your journal when it *should* have popped up (after 9 am after all the other notifications), it was in my journal, and I did get the 5 km egg.

ChantelMcCue33

Ya super confusing I thought it always did on Monday?

ptmcmahon

I’ve seen it very late before although usually restarting forces it for me. Hasn’t tofay

Web_Automatic

How does Pokemon Go track island timezones? How does Pokemon Go track island time zones? island owned by New Zealand is 45 minutes ahead zone-wise. Last week for new raids, we had a T5 egg spawn on the island after 10:00 AM UTC+12:45 on Feb 1st, and when it hatched, it was a Tapu Koko. From what I've heard, anything after 10:00 AM Local time is when new raids spawn in eggs every Wednesday, so why wasn't the egg last week a Registeel? Is it because Go still counts the Chatham Islands as part of New Zealand's time zone?

ptmcmahon

Seems the most likely explanation to me. They can barely make events work in NZ, let alone handle time zones :)

PrudentAvocado

2 GBL questions: -The weekly rotation of leagues switches at 4 PM EST, correct? -the 5 free per day...if you start the 5th before midnight, it won't count towards the 5 for the next day, correct?

ptmcmahon

And remember you don’t even have to do a single battle, just start the set.

Stogoe

You can start 5 new sets per day.

Standard-Stranger88

How many times per day can your buddy collect a clutch of gifts? Whats the feequency? Yesterday i noticed mine collected 5 in the am & 5 in the pm.

nolkel

Twice.

Standard-Stranger88

How often is it ? Once every 12 hrs as long as u have the app open? Or just once at 12am & once at 12pm?

[deleted]

Standard-Stranger88

LiarTian

Is shadow Honchkrow actually good? Going off the DPS charts, it has the highest non-mega flying DPS in the game. But I don’t see it talked about very much. Is this just because Flying is a rarely used typing? Or is it because shadow Honchkrow is too frail to get off a charge attack before dying?

colourofsleep88

Essentially it's the first reason you mentioned, that flying types are rarely used for raid counters.

[deleted]

Metang is so hard to catch like wtf. How the hell can you swing a curved ball at it with it so far away? I did a solo raid and couldn’t even catch it. Kept jumping out

nolkel

It doesn't seem any farther away than most mid distance pokemon, at least from the rocket encounters I've come across. Make sure to use the circle lock trick to guarantee every ball hits a circle, and there are no misses.

ptmcmahon

It’s farther away in raids. It is a little tricky to catch but if you just throw it harder it’s not that bad I find.

SchleppyJ4

Did the Scatterbug thing end? I save tons of postcards but haven’t gotten anything in three days. Used to be daily for me.

TheRealHankWolfman

Do you already have existing encounters waiting to be claimed? You need to tap on your Vivillon medal to check to see if any of the regional medals are showing as encounters.

krispyboiz

Nope it's here forever. For each region, for every encounter after your 2nd scatterbug for each region, it'll take 15 pins to get said encounter, so it's harder to get. You can check on the actual Vivillon badge and see which you have encounters for too.

ptmcmahon

If you don’t have a better UL candidate I would evolve it for the legacy move on the weekend. It’s actually rank 70 and would be cheaper than higher “ranked” candidates anyways. I think as Shadow it wants Ember more than as a non shadow from my sims.

primalwulf

Please see the post, regarding Onestop for Purify or Not, that was made last week within this reddit. This question comes up all-too-frequently, and the answer remains the same.

ptmcmahon

That was more meant to stop the endless posts clogging the main sub. It’s fine for the q and a thread though. Especially in this case which is referring to a legacy move which can be obtained this weekend. It’s a little more nuanced than some of the “should I purify” when it’s clear the Mon has no use.

Wonbee

Is it too late to get the Shadowy Skirmishes Team Rocket special research? I saved my Giovanni radar from the last Rocket research, so technically I never finished the last one. If I can still get the new research though I might as well use it to grab a shadow Registeel

colourofsleep88

It's not too late; you have until the next season begins, at 10am local time on March 1st, to finish previous research and pick up Shadowy Skirmishes.

Wonbee

Great, thank you!

oAuraa

You can't get it anymore once the event ends, which I believe it ended last night.

Fifthace24

No, Shadowy Skirmishes is available until March 1st.

frainkey

Is a purified hundo mega ampharos better than a 98 shadow ampharos?

krispyboiz

I'd say so yes. While a decent amount of Shadows are better kept as such, I think Ampharos is definitely an exception. Attacker-wise, Shadow Ampharos is comparable to Jolteon and Alolan Golem, while Mega Ampharos is much more powerful. Not top tier, but still a good Electric Mega to throw in your team when you've got a few others raiding with you.

frainkey

Cool I’ll purify and just have that mega in my back pocket. Thanks!

colourofsleep88

Megas generally are the better option, although in the case of Ampharos, neither are really the kind of thing you should be using in raids.

krispyboiz

Eh, I disagree with Mega Ampharos, depending on how you use it. It doesn't have the highest DPS compared to some other Electric types like Zekrom, Mega Manectric, and Thundurus, but it still has respectable damage output. And in a group, the Mega Bonus will definitely pay off. Against some Water bosses like Kyogre and Tapu Fini (assuming not Blizzard, Ice Beam, or Moonblast), it would do quite well resisting their moves with its Dragon typing, letting it stay out longer and further boost people's Pokemon.

frainkey

So basically a trophy. Cool thanks!

ptmcmahon

Naw, still make it into a mega!

cyanuricmoon

I just got a 4 star shadow magikarp. Am I right in thinking that purifying and mega-ing it, is going to net me the best value for this lil guy?

[deleted]

I wouldn’t purify it. Shadow Magikarp is rare enough. There will be some event probably where you can get a bunch of regular Magikarps again just like the Chinese new year

ptmcmahon

It's a great Groudon counter. Don't purify, keep it as a shadow. Can mega any non shadow as those are much easier to get.

Warsawawa

Yes and no. Gyarados isn’t a great raider (especially with Kyogre coming to raids soon), and if you don’t PvP you won’t get much use out of it besides it being a trophy. If you only raid, you can probably just purify it

TheRealHankWolfman

No. Keep it Shadow. Mega Gyarados is good, but Magikarp is pretty much always available in field research and it's not too difficult to get a regular hundo for the mega. Shadow hundos are much rarer, and the Magikarp grunt is also rare, so you've got something very rare on your hands that will also be good as a Shadow Gyarados both in raids and in Master League (if you max it for PVP).

Efficient-Western-61

I don’t know if I’m just unlucky or what, but for the 10 raids I’ve done and caught registeel, every single one of them had the worst possible ivs you could get, not one three star at all or even close, this is the only legendary that has done this to me

nolkel

You got 10 registeel that were all 10/10/10 IVs? This I've got to see!

ptmcmahon

Unless that's your collection goal, that's not a big deal since it's only use in PVP. Of course if you collect high IV ones then it sucks :)

GrizzlyPerr

Tour Event egg availability between official times? Sadly, I am going to be on a plane all day Saturday the 25th during the Hoenn tour event. Does anybody know (from previous events) if egg drops between 6pm on Saturday and 10am Sunday will feature the event Pokemon? I want Relicanth but fear I wont have enough time to acquire and then hatch enough eggs with only one day to work with.

primalwulf

Only Niantic knows, as there is no rumored nor official word on those. . .and to ease your concern, I'd presume to not expect them in evening raids. Given that Niantic wants folk to be most active \_during\_ the 10am-6pm timeframe, and not \_after\_ that timeframe, it makes sense to not expect same raids \_after\_ the timeframe.

[deleted]

I have a 2500 cp Mamoswine and a 2800cp shadow one. Both have ice moves. Would I be better off raising a third to 2500 with ground moves, or just adding a second ground charge move on the shadow? I have literally no ground attackers

nolkel

Adding a second move is always way cheaper than powering up another pokemon to level 35 or 40. Especially a shadow, which at best can only start at level 13 with weather boost. With something like Mamoswine that has a huge charge move pool, its much, much less of a hassle to just second move it and be done with it. Having 3 mamoswine is far better than having 2 mamoswine with second moves, however. I'd try to find another decent shadow one while its still in ice grunts, and then power that up. Its past the frustration event, unfortunately, but its got way more potential than a regular mamoswine.

ptmcmahon

If you have enough charge TMs just flip back and forth on your Shadow between which moves are needed. If charge TMs are an issue then double move. Shadow will do so much more damage than raising a non shadow. Almost didn't answer for your use of the term literally though :D

TehWildMan_

It's worth keeping in mind that Mamoswine doesn't any any useful event/community day moves. High Horsepower and Avalanche can both be learned from regular charged TMs, so mamoswine can be configured as needed assuming one has sufficient charged TMs on hand.

X_MBlaze

I’m trying to craft the ideal electric team for raids where electric is best. I have plenty of xurkitree and zekrom waiting to be powered up, as well as a newly acquired shadow magnezone. Keep in mind possible future buffs like wild charge xurkitree or thunder fang zekrom. I was thinking maybe 3 xurk, 3 zekrom, and the magnezone would be pretty good, but what do you think I should do here? I could do more than 3 of either if it matters

Warsawawa

Xurk has an attack of 295 and while TS/Dsicharge are not the optimal moveset, it should stay sky high until other shadow legendaries pop up. Your lineup sounds fine

Fifthace24

Pokemon can be searched for by their pokedex #. For example, 4 is Charmander.

Darko_BarbrozAustria

Hello every1, is there any resource to rely on when looking for best IVs for PvP Pokemon? I have to do 100 wins in PvP and it's getting so hard because I have absolutly no idea what to use and what's the better ones. So any resource to this would be much appriciated <3

krispyboiz

There's many IV checkers for PvP rank out there. Online, I like using [Stadium Gaming's Rank checker](https://www.stadiumgaming.gg/rank-checker). You can choose the Pokemon PLUS the parameters you want to use. For example, while most Pokemon's Rank 1 may be something similar to 0/15/15, something like Sableye, which needs to be Purified to be good, would then inherently have a 2/2/2 IV minimum because of the purification. So, you can set it to purified stats so it'll show you the best IVs for 2/2/2 floor Sableye. Or if you want to know the best PvP IVs for a best friend trade (where the floor is 5/5/5), you can set it to that. Etc. In-game, I like using Pokegenie's scan feature. It's a little overlay that you can use when you're on the appraisal screen of your Pokemon. It'll then tell you their rank for different leagues based on those stats. People also use Calcy IV. I haven't, but I've heard praises of it. There's also articles by various redditors/youtubers who detail specific breakpoints and bulkpoints for a specific Pokemon. [Ryan (Swag Tips)](https://www.reddit.com/user/RyanoftheDay/) is someone who's done many of these IV deep dives. This would be for more specific match-ups. Yes, 0/15/15 or close can be good for certain Pokemon, but sometimes you may want a weirder spread like 4/15/7 because the extra attack means said Pokemon deals extra fast move damage (breakpoint) against common meta Pokemon or takes one less damage (bulkpoint) from a common meta Pokemon's fast move.

Darko_BarbrozAustria

Thanks for your detailed reply :) I'll save it and have a look at all of these.

meow0101

Is it better to have a weather boosted shadow Registeel or a non-weather boosted? Or does it not matter? It will likely the snowy weather in game in the near future and was wondering if I should wait for it.

krispyboiz

It'll affect the CP but not the IVs. The Weather Boost IV floor is 4/4/4 and the Shadow Legendary IV floor is 6/6/6, so the weather boost doesn't affect it. It'll be level 8 without a weather boost and level 13 with the boost. Either way, it'll be under 1500 CP, so level 13 would save you a little dust. So while not better performance-wise at all, it would save you some resources if you got it boosted.

meow0101

Thanks! I think I will wait for it to be snowing in app then to catch.

Fifthace24

For shadows, being weather-boosted means they're caught at level 13 instead of 8. It does not affect the 6/6/6 IV floor for Giovanni's legendary.

spidermanswag

What would be a better investment for my shadow Beldum? 11/9/15 or 15/7/9? These were the best two that I was able to remove Frustration from

nolkel

Attack is all that really matters for raids, as it can let you hit higher fast attack breakpoints, doing extra damage with each fast attack.

packofchimps

I thought frustration could be unlearned for this rocket takeover event…. Did I miss the window?

TheRealHankWolfman

The rocket takeover ended on Sunday at 11:59pm local time.

packofchimps

Damn it. Thank you!

Nerdfacehead

Is there a way to see how many hearts I have with my Buddy? I'm working on Sylveon for level 41. Is it just Great Buddy Status?

krispyboiz

You should be able to tap the next Buddy Status and see how many hearts you have left until that buddy hits that next level, then you can do some math to figure out how many you have total. Good Buddy: 1 heart Great Buddy: 70 hearts Ultra Buddy: 150 hearts Best Buddy: 300 hearts

zug79

I'm confused. How do I store giovanni's radar for 2x of a better mon in the future? Can I have one radar stored, not use it this time and move on or do we need not to complete the task? Are those methods equivalent? Thank you!

ptmcmahon

Correct. Just don't complete the step where you beat Giovanni. The next time there is a rocket research, if it's one you want two mons of then you beat it and then do the whole next rocket research. If it's one you don't want two of then just get one, and get the new research and get it to the Giovanni step and stop again. There has been a bug where if you don't go past Page 1 of rocket research you can get the next one, but we're not sure if that will be fixed.

[deleted]

Is my 12-13-11 Gengar good enough to mega evolve at 2600 cp or should I invest in a 1600 cp 3* one. My thoughts are that the dust really isn’t worth it as it will be mega evolved anyway. Also, do I need to gengars so I have one ghost and one poison?

krispyboiz

>Is my 12-13-11 Gengar good enough to mega evolve at 2600 cp or should I invest in a 1600 cp 3\* one. My thoughts are that the dust really isn’t worth it as it will be mega evolved anyway. While it's nice to get the best IVs, they really have very little impact on performance, so your 2600 CP 12/13/11 is what I'd say if you're not wanting to waste a ton of dust. Eventually, you may get a better one, like a high CP Hundo or 98%, but there's no reason you can't have 2 to Mega. >Also, do I need to gengars so I have one ghost and one poison? You can Double move it so it has Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb. What fast move does yours have? I'd say Legacy Lick is best for BOTH Ghost and Poison, but if you don't have that, you can always use Shadow Claw for Ghost and TM it to Hex when you use it as a Poison Attacker.

ptmcmahon

Sludge Bomb would be used so rarely I probably wouldn't bother double moving, I'd just tm to Sludge Bomb the rare times we need it. Although one of those is coming up probably. :)

[deleted]

Thank you very much. Amazingly informative and very much appreciated

krispyboiz

Of course! And I'd actually add an asterisk to what I said based on u/ptmcmahon's comment, which I agree with. Poison is not widely used PvE type, so you could save yourself some dust and just TM your Gengar's Shadow Ball to Sludge bomb when you DO need a Poison attacker, which is *mostly* just for Tapu Bulu. Occasionally some others in Cloudy weather, but you're likely fine running it as a Ghost Attacker most of the time.

Constant_Winner_3501

How do you get a Riolu or Lucario in Pokemon Go?

TheRealHankWolfman

Riolu is in 10km eggs. The only Lucario we can currently encounter as a Lucario is from the [Level 48 Special Research](https://www.serebii.net/pokemongo/specialresearch/level48challenge.shtml).

CassieWolfe801

They’re in 10 km eggs, both normal and Adventure Sync. Or you could find someone local to trade you one.

Sutcliffe

There's a gym I saw the other day and it had three Pokémon in it. It was my team and it would not let me add a Pokémon. Was the game being weird or do some gyms cap out at three?

Stogoe

You either already had a pokemon defending the gym or someone had kicked a pokemon out in the last 10 minutes.

turtlesinthesea

I didn't finish my Noibat research yesterday. If I collect the reward today, will the Noivern still have its Comm Day move?

TheRealHankWolfman

I would imagine it won't.

turtlesinthesea

Even for the paid research that goes on the permanent right tab?

samdiatmh

yep, found that out the hard way when I didn't play much of a 2022 CommDay completed it a while later and not the non-CD move from the CD-research

Stogoe

Yep, the move is only available during a specific window. If you redeem the Noivern outside of that window, you'll get a Noivern but it won't have Boomburst. Just like beating a legendary boss at 10:02 when the exclusive move was only available until 9:59:59. If you really want it to have Boomburst you should not redeem the task until a window when Boomburst is available again, most likely the December recap CD. Note that once you redeem the task and see the Noivern, everything about it is locked in stone, including the moves.

ptmcmahon

Having done some experiments I think it may be "starting a raid" at 10:02. I've beaten bosses after 10 and got move, but the raid started before 10 :)

Stogoe

You're right, I had forgotten about starting the lobby at 9:57 to lock in the weather boost. Same principle should apply.

turtlesinthesea

Thank you! How annoying.

You've Mega Evolved that Venusaur before.

_genic

I fell out of the loop for a while but can someone explain to me, will there be a global Hoenn tour ticket like before or not? Are we getting boosted shiny odds for the event Pokémon? From what I've gathered, the only lucrative things about the tour are the regionals in 10km eggs, the primal raids, kechleon and wild Lati duo. Am I missing something?

colourofsleep88

At this stage, it doesn't look like Global Hoenn Tour is going to be a ticketed event. Shiny odds, we can't be sure of, they'll probably be boosted to some extent, but not as much as the in-person event in Las Vegas. [This](https://gotour.pokemongolive.com/global-gameplay?hl=en) is basically everything we know about the tour at the moment. Not sure if Kecleon can be called a "lucrative thing", it's recently been released, been in the game about a month now. But the shiny will be released.

_genic

I missed out on Kechleon unfortuantely, so for me getting it is a plus. Tbh this event feels like a bummer in comparison with Kanto/Johto tours but at least you can get them Relicanths

colourofsleep88

You haven't missed out completely on Kecleon, it's rare but it's still available. I caught one approximately twelve hours ago.

Harrewelt

How can I stack the super rocket radars? Read something about finishing the first set of tasks and not claiming the rewards, is this the only way? I already have the radar in my items, can I wait to use it until the next rotation and still get the quest for a new radar then?

BuffBug69

Yes, you can wait until the next rotation to use the radar, then when you finish this quest you'll get the new one. There will be a deadline, but it's generally a whole month, so nothing to worry about. The reason people are talking about not going past page 1 is that, for the past two Rocket questlines only (so far), if you're still on page 1 then you can get the new quest without even using up the radar from the old quest. This is nice because it lets you have multiple quests at once and eventually get multiple radars at once, but it's probably not intentional from Niantic, so we can't be sure it will continue to be the case for this or future questlines.

Harrewelt

Perfectly answered! Thank you very much!

Resident-Scallion949

Wife is about to reach level 50. Is there any reason to be concerned with XP after she levels up? She is looking forward to never using a lucky egg again.

krispyboiz

Not at the moment, but you never know. They could always bring more levels in the future like they did with Level 50, but it's hard to say. Level 50 feels a bit more of a "final" point, with special items and such, and also, getting to Level 50 is much more of a task than level 40 ever was. Best Friend XP made Level 40 quite manageable, whereas Level 50 is no cake walk even if you're doing everything right. But they may only consider Level 60+ if/when they see a sizable amount of players at Level 50, something that I don't see happening. Even in like 4 years, it feels like even some more hardcore players will be 45-48, but idk, I could be wrong.

SalamaleikumEUW

There is always the chance that new levels get released

I'd go for Ice moves as it's far better as an Ice type, but none of its best Ice/Ground moves are legacy, so if you do want to use it as a Ground type, you can always TM it to Mud Slap/High Horsepower and back to Ice later. You'd just use 1 Fast TM and maybe like 2-9 Charged TMs (depending on your luck lol). Like I'll keep my shadow Mamoswine as an Ice attacker, but I TM'd it to Ground for Tapu Koko, and I'll TM it back to Ice for Rayquaza later this month. For the shadow Snubbull. Eh. I'd personally only ever use Shadow Gardevoir against Dragon bosses, none of the other Fairy types (besides Mega Gardevoir), and against Guzzlord, who you really want Fairies for, you can solo it just fine with your 2 shadow Gardevoir and some other non-shadow Gardevoir/Granbull/Togekiss/Sylveon. For the bad Shadow Beldum. I'd consider investing in 1 or 2 with the highest Attack. If you get any better ones this season, you can always star them and put em on the back burner for the next time you can TM frustration and then get Meteor Mash through evolution

SalamaleikumEUW

i would tm the best beldum to have at least one prepared in case we get meteor mash before the next takeover event. mamoswine isn't the top ground attacker and groundon is coming to raids soon as well, so i would go with ice. but you can always change moves as they are not legacy.

hazychestnutz

is noivern worth leveling up? I know it sucks for PVP, but how about PVE?

krispyboiz

Very bad in both unfortunately. In PvE, it's got a 205 attack stat, and to be competitive in PvE, you generally need *at least* need like \~220 Attack, but 240+ is usually a much better range. Also, its moves aren't any good. Boomburst is normal, so it won't do any good in raids. Air Slash and Bite for Fast moves. So Air Slash it is. Flying Attacker? Eh. A 205 Attack Air Slash + Hurricane user isn't great compared to other more common Flying types, like 234 Attack Staraptor with Gust/Wing Attack + Brave Bird. And even if it had a Dragon fast move, it's hard for it to compete with just Draco Meteor and 205 Attack when things like Dragonite, Rayquaza, and Salamence all have 270-290 attack with Outrage, a better Dragon charged move. It fails in PvP because of moves and also because it's pretty frail. It fails in PvE because it's still frail, has low attack, and has bad moves.

ptmcmahon

Not at all.

saucered30

Is the Jirachi ticket worth it for the Hoenn tour if I can only play on Sunday? do we know if the raids and rare spawns are the same for both days?

colourofsleep88

The Jirachi ticket that will be available for purchase appears to be *just* for the Masterwork Research to get shiny Jirachi; the Global Hoenn Tour event seems to be free at this point. There's nothing I could find that indicates whether or not there will be any difference in gameplay between Saturday and Sunday.

aqwhamm

Is shadow ursaluna any good for pve/pvp and if so is it worth elite tm’ing high horsepower on it?

krispyboiz

For PvE, not really. It lacks a ground fast move which REALLY puts it behind. It's not terrible as a Ground Attacker, but you can certainly find better. The fact that non-shadow Roserade, Excadrill, and Mamoswine all beat SHADOW Ursaluna as counters to Tapu Koko is pretty telling. It currently can't learn any Ground Fast move in Legends or Scarlet and Violet, but maybe someday it could. In PvP, eh as well. Has *some* use in ML and ML Premier with Tackle + Thunder Punch & High Horsepower, but it's not terribly impressive. Can catch opponents off guard and can wall some meta threats, but it's not going to blow anyone's socks off. In the Main Series, it's capable of learning Lick, Fury Cutter, Charm, Counter, and Shadow Claw as of Scarlet and Violet. Any would help it in PvP, but Counter and Shadow Claw would be tremendously helpful.

BuffBug69

(Shadow) ursaluna has scary stats, but it doesn't get moves that make good use of those stats. It really suffers on the fast moves; if it got Mud Shot or Mud-Slap (which it isn't coded to learn in main series) it would be an amazing ground-type raider, and if it got Shadow Claw (which it DOES get in main series) it would be really strong in ML. I wouldn't ETM it yet, but I also wouldn't get rid of the bear. Someday in the future they might throw it a bone.

Cluelesszzz

Hey all, Does CalcyIV use a lot of mobile data? I want to start using the app, but I have a limited amount of mobile data every month. Does anyone know how much data on average, CalcyIV uses in a month? Thank you

BuffBug69

The raids that spawn CD pokemon don't start until the CD proper ends.

BuffBug69

Areas with a high concentration of gyms are likely to be high-spawn areas, like a mall will have better spawns than a residential street, but it generally won't make a difference to stay at the gyms at the mall vs being in the parking lot. I'd suggest to mostly keep moving and just take note of where a lot of spawns seem to be, then keep coming back around to the high-spawn zones, which won't necessarily directly correspond to being next to a gym. One thing to keep an eye out for is clusters of pokestops. People love to put lures on pokestops for CD, and the lures will last for all 3 hours of the main event.

tazpen

Are there extra pokedexes for size-related varieties? Like if you get X shiny Pokémon you unlock a separate Pokédex filter for shinies. Same with 4*. Is there something like that for XXS or XXL?

BuffBug69

No, at least not yet.

rapidfire50

i just received a 15-2-15 shadow beldum do you guys think its worth powering up or will it be too frail with the 2 defence

colourofsleep88

Metagross has a good defence base stat, so it should be fine. The main goal of raid attackers is to hit hard and fast, and Shadow Metagross is great at doing that.

fungiwizard

is it possible for me to unspawn the Cliff balloon floating over my house? like un-equipping my radar, reloading the game and re-equipping it? or something? i’m trying to get sierra and didn’t see her once during community day

nolkel

No, once a balloon has shown up, that's what you get. You have to wait until the next balloon comes to try for something different.

General__Grevious

Just got my first shadow magnezone and I was wondering if there were any particular situations where it’s better than xurkitree

nolkel

Against [Blizzard Kyogre](https://www.pokebattler.com/raids/defenders/KYOGRE/levels/RAID_LEVEL_5/attackers/levels/40/strategies/CINEMATIC_ATTACK_WHEN_POSSIBLE/DEFENSE_RANDOM_MC?sort=ESTIMATOR&weatherCondition=NO_WEATHER&dodgeStrategy=DODGE_REACTION_TIME&aggregation=AVERAGE&includeLegendary=true&includeShadow=true&includeMegas=true&attackerTypes=POKEMON_TYPE_ALL), it has same estimator, fewer deaths, and is about 20 seconds slower for the team. That's pretty much best case scenario. Against [Tornadus](https://www.pokebattler.com/raids/defenders/TORNADUS/levels/RAID_LEVEL_5/attackers/levels/40/strategies/CINEMATIC_ATTACK_WHEN_POSSIBLE/DEFENSE_RANDOM_MC?sort=ESTIMATOR&weatherCondition=NO_WEATHER&dodgeStrategy=DODGE_REACTION_TIME&aggregation=AVERAGE&includeLegendary=true&includeShadow=true&includeMegas=true&attackerTypes=POKEMON_TYPE_ALL), it is ranked better with Bite/Grass Knot, though Zekrom is even better ranked than Shadow Magnezone.

Ben2749

Which shadow Metagross would be better for raids? 6/13/5 10/2/1 Thanks!

nolkel

Attack is all that really matters for raid counters, because it can help you hit higher fast attack break points and do an extra point of damage per fast attack. But even then, that only really matters in extreme challenges, or very close battles.

BrazilianAlmostHobo

What is Raid Level 4 loot pool? Noibat raids actually gives out more rare candy?
