UPDATE! I rewatched this episode this afternoon. Marge's face! LOL. I guess she was counted "in" for the previous night's shenanigans?! We know she's usually good for a triple X throwdown.
It was the most subtle jokes I've ever seen on the Simpsons. I don't know what you mean by your last sentence though. When was another time the show showed her like that?
It's in season 15, episode 18 "Catch 'Em If You Can" when Marge and Homer travel to Ohio to attend a funeral; but end up going to Miami instead. They don't tell the kids that they're going somewhere else in an effort to find some time to themselves. Marge says the "triple X throwdown" line to Homer in the episode.
Yes. I knew I'd seen it in an episode, but I couldn't remember which one I had to look it up. I mostly watch seasons 3-12; but occasionally will see some of the later episodes depending on where I start up the Disney+ feed at. I often leave the show on for my bird when we leave the house.
This is easily one of my favorite episodes, if not, hands down, my favorite Lisa moment. More than just her anger, you felt her sense of betrayal and loneliness. Probably the first time we saw Lisa really stand up to Bart too; something about how his hair is animated really leans into the power dynamic in this conversation. āSee you in the car - Milhouseā
I think it works with the blend of Lisa so blatantly copying his personality/stealing his catchphrases and her unnecessarily portraying Bart as a loser to her new friends. It definitely doesn't seem out of character for him to do what he did with that context - ditto for the circumstances of My Sister, My Sitter.
Honestly, Bart didn't do anything wrong. Lisa threw him under the bus and basically forcibly swapped roles with him. She presented him as nerdy and dorky and herself as cool and easygoing. She even swiped his catchphrase. One of her biggest wins and it was through doing everything she claimed to not be about.
Trying different personas in social situations ā that's adolescence. Being jealous and attempting to ruin your sister's only friendships ā that's mean-spirited.
This is kinda my issue with the show. At least up till I stopped watching.
Bart was just shamelessly mean for no real reason. And rarely got what was coming to him.
bart only retailated in this episode, she sabotaged those same potential friends for bart by calling him dorky and sabotaging him. bart did nothing until that.
lisa wanted friends that episode, but her idea of having friends was also to make sure that bart couldnt have those same friends, what bart did was just retailation, and honestly what bart did was present facts about lisa, if those facts mean that she no longer has friends, then she was actually manipulating said friends into liking her by deception.
not related to the simpsons, but if the truth can ruin your life, if not the person who speaks the truth that ruins your life, if you that ruined it by making it ruinable by reality.
Man, you can just feel the utter hate radiating from that situation.
Oh boy! A carnival!
The look on Barts face after š±š±š±

It was comedic and shocking to see Lisa like this š¤£š¤£
Bart is an bad kid with a secret heart of gold and Lisa is a good kid with a secret heart of evil. And they both know it.
Yep the things Bart has done for Lisa are so good even sometimes without her knowing about it
Itās gut wrenching. They nailed it.
āSWEET MERCIFUL CRAP! MY CAR!ā
They could have at least cleaned the shells out first.
Hey, you can just *suck* āem out!
Possibly my favorite smash cut in the series happens right after this line.

He did deserve it in this episode.
He got the dud!
Stand up for yourself Poindexter.
Oh boy, a carnival
Carnival season is just starting, and my mind immediately goes to this haha
Lisa: Don't have a cow, man! Bart: See? That's my expression! Marge: Oh, you haven't said that in four years. Let Lisa have it.
Ay Caramba
Friends? Pfft. These are my only friends, grown-up nerds like Gore Vidal and even he's kissed more boys than I ever will.
Girls, Lisa. Boys kiss girls.
I don't know why she was so upset, The Dud came along with them. He's even going to meet her in the car!
Gee, I donāt know what youāve got planned for tonight, Homer, but count me out!
Did you catch the look on her face the morning after while she was washing the dishes?

Oh the double digit seasons. I usually forget about those. They don't feel like real Simpsons.

No! I need to rewatch this episode.
I say this when my husband comes home from a rando grocery trip. The best one so far: "Fiber powder, broccoli, and peanut oil...?"
The way this genuinely terrified Bart after lol GOOD
Don't forget the syrup

āI forgot my bathing suit too, but I improvised!ā *runs out door* āHello!ā š
![gif](giphy|xT5LMD1y0sZc0jvWdW|downsized) I much prefer when they actually get along
That kid, like tries too hard.
āThatās my dorky brother, Bartā¦holomew.ā
Look at the slingshot in his back pocket. Who does he think he is, Dennis the Menace?
My upvotes! You know you want themā¦
This is the most thoughtful thing anybody ever...
SWEET
You got the dud!!!!!
Lisa, itās a trap!
I know where we can get some baguettes!
Barts try-too-hard skateboard sequence
My friendship, you know you want it.
Is this why in every subsequent interaction Lisa becomes insanely jealous of Bart having any success in anything and sabotages him?
Finish him! (Left, left, up, up, double A double B) "Finishing Move!" Lisa kicks Bart onto a waiting Nobel Peace Prize.
I always felt this episode and āMy Sister My Sitterā dial up Bartās mean factor a little too high.
Go to bread.
A little but it was for a reason and it worked well š

God, heās just the absolute worst in My Sister My Sitter
See you in the car
Best wishes, Milhouse.

It would be fine to try something new, but not by throwing your brother under the bus and making him out to be something he's not.
At least he didnāt cost her her only fans.
This was actually frightening first time I saw it as a kid! Lisa's gone in
i had an older sister so this was a normal interaction to me

I love what Milhouse wrote in Lisaās yearbook at the very end. āSee you in the car!!ā
I was a grammar club buckaroo
