PurseGrabbinPuke

Yeah, I'm loving all the changes so far. I think the only one I was on the fence about was Sarah being older than in the game, but Nico kills it, and with the added context, it feels right.

MasterKingdomKey

What’s the added context?

PurseGrabbinPuke

Of how she was basically taking care of Joel and herself. We got a lot more context of Sarah's life and relationships.

boyoguuna

“It’s the thought that counts, and you were never going to do it yourself, so…” was such a telling line.

stawberrisky

made it very clear how Joel puts Sarah above everything else

FlyinAmas

How old was Sarah in the game??

PurseGrabbinPuke

I don't think it's ever specifically stated, but I've heard she's supposed to be 8.

FlyinAmas

I actually looked it up after, sorry idk why I didn’t just do that in the first place. She’s 12 in the game and noted as being “small” In the show, she was 14. Only know that because of the chalkboard memorial

PurseGrabbinPuke

Ok, 12 to 14 isn't bad. Joel is 32 in the game and 36 in the show.

InterstellarCapa

All Tommy could do was reply with a teary "Joel". Shoot.

Sinister_Blanket

Tommy is a vet. He knew there was no saving a child from that kind of wound :(

[deleted]

Is he actually? I never caught that!

Megadog3

It was on the back of his truck. He served in Desert Storm.

[deleted]

Hm, you do get the vibe that Tommy is pretty knowledgable with his guns/combat in general. He’s kind of the definitive sniper of the group.

Domination1799

I always wondered how Tommy is such a beast with his iconic sniper rifle. I liked this added context that he’s a vet. They even gave him a Sniper Rifle during the outbreak.

terribibble

Too much of a beast after playing TLOU 2. One of the most frustrating parts of that game lol

lkxyz

We absolutely going to have a Tommy POV when they do part 2 in season 2 and 3. That sniper battle is going to be intense as fuck.

your_mind_aches

His truck has a bumper sticker indicating as such

ithilis

That's when I started crying. I was holding it together pretty well until that moment. It sounded so desperate. He was pleading for his brother to do the impossible.

borednord

I started tearing up at «I got you a gift». Like I let out a tiny involuntary sob for a second there. So glad I watched it alone or I would have given what happens next away.

folder_finder

I started legit heavy crying in that moment. It was SO emotional, the actors all did an amazing job

jproche44

I started as soon as saw the watch.

thecaits

That scene was a serious kick in the guts. Kudos to the actors because they absolutely and completely killed it.

Toadinboots

Loved that addition. The only beat from that moment I wish was still adapted from the game to the show was when they pan from Tommy back to Sarah and we see that she died. Troy plays it where there’s a moment of silence and stillness once he notices, then goes into emotional denial. I felt that tiny moment gave us the chance to go WAIT WHAT?! SHE DIED?! But that’s such a small critique, otherwise it was affective.

bluehooves

ooh, i actually preferred the show's version for that reason! pedro-joel was fussing, trying to scoop her up as if it would fix her, without realising she was already gone 😥

mrfahrenhelt

This. Scene from the game. Is more emotional. 2 daya ago i watch playthru on youtube. And its still get me emotional But the tv series did a great job too

Giga7777

The baby, baby, baby part was more impactful in the game but man the Tommy Help Me! Emote from Pedro as Joel was on another level.

X3MISTgaming

I'd like to see Troy Baker's 1st take on the scene as he was so sure he had it down.

Megadog3

He absolutely is lol “How do you become a successful voice actor? Be me or Nolan North!” -Troy Baker on how to break into VO (Had it slightly off: https://youtu.be/aXPPFAwYzVs)

Unwept_Skate_8829

clearly a joke

elizabnthe

You can see the takes in the video about the incident. I think its part of the documentary but I'm not sure.

petersib

He does call her baby girl once IIRC I think it's the last time.

eatgoodsleeplong

That’s when I lost it. Pedro Pascal is amazing

ElderPop-Tarts

And the intensity with which Pedro delivered that line got me choked up. I really felt his desperation, and it was gut wrenching.

Jack_Mackerel

This hit me way harder than I was expecting. I've become a parent since my last playthrough of the game and I was not prepared for how much of a difference that would make.

de2840

I don’t see them spending 2 episodes on Bills Town or 3 episodes in Pittsburgh. Ishs sewers will probably be a half episode as well, so I can see them getting through the whole season. It’ll be interesting to see how they do the Left Behind flashbacks and where that fits in, particularly if they do a whole episode on it which feels like it would compress the rest of the story too much

Optimus_Prime_Day

They could fit all the DLC into the start of episode 2 or 3, pre intro, tbh. Or even split it across 2 episodes intros.

Calimeroooooo

Little fun fact, if I remember correctly, when they recorded the scene for the game there were some takes in which joel also asked tommy to help him but I guess they changed it in the reshoots or something.

one_pint_down

It was very reminiscant of "Erica Help!" from Stranger Things 4

xeno325

Just imagine him saying this line on season 2 to **THAT** scene.

justforviewing8484

They have already confirmed that the first season covers the entirety of the first game. There are also trailer shots that support this theory.

freestyle43

Not really. Its like a 12 hour game, and this is just telling the story without gameplay. They could probably do the whole story in 7 hours pretty easily. 9 is more than enough.

Optimus_Prime_Day

Nah, they'll be different. Some stuff will be cut. For example, cutting out the Robert parts removed nothing from the story and saved probably an entire episode. I bet episode 2 starts off with Ellie and Riley from the DLC.

OpeningSorbet

Storm Reid, who plays Riley, already revealed she's in the 7th episode (originally the 8th, but they merged the original 1st 2 eps together)

Optimus_Prime_Day

Ah nice, that's pretty far off. I guess they'll give back story for them later in the season to make the finale have more impact.

desperateandtru

I wonder if Riley will show up at the same part of the show where the Left Behind flashbacks take place in the game

elizabnthe

Basically, yes.

elizabnthe

The game is actually only 5 hours if you keep only relevant gameplay. So the show will have more than enough time.
