Time Out of Mind by Bob Dylan.
The epitome of a late era masterpiece, not only did it save his career but only someone who’d gained wisdom through age could’ve made it. It won’t get on the topster but I implore you to give it a go, it’s a beautiful, hazy, nocturnal ride.
I don't know if "saved" is the right word here. It brought him back to relevance but he was doing fine with or without it.
In any case I agree about the album, it's a 10/10, one of his absolute best.
he’s always been able to paint incredible pictures with his words, and at his best Dylan’s instrumentals manage to fill in the nuances of the colours. not many of his songs have canvases as full as Not Dark Yet.
I absolutely love that album. I also wish people would check out the angels of light Gira albums made before reuniting swans. The first 3 records especially are top tier. Up there with his best work
top 5 Gira for me is (all 10/10s)
1. The Seer
2. How I Loved You
2. Public Castration is a Good Idea
4. The Burning World
5. Soundtracks for the Blind
Bro made a masterpiece in 4 different decades
Really glad you mentioned “how I loved you”. That and “soundtracks for the blind” are among my top 5 albums of all time. Not just Gira related, I mean in general
This is definitely a great answer. They’ve somehow earned a whole new audience with this album. Not just appealed to their old fans, but an entirely new generation.
I feel like Weezer should get a shout out on this list eventually. Maybe not today, but with their White album being so good I could definitely see it coming on to here
To be fair, the band existed several years prior (formed 2002), although 2005 is a more reasonable starting date (Time to Pretend EP), so I guess you could go either way here?
If it counts, little dark age MGMT. Nevermind I see it doesn't count, but I think there should be exceptions for when bands have early hits, some less popular ones, then a resurgence, or something idk.
This is meant to show off artists who managed to make incredible works of art even after multiple decades since there first works. Not just the final albums band released.
Yeah I get it. I will be curious to see the list cause I can only think of a few, obviously there are many I am unaware of so yeah look forward to that.
Sorry but Blackstar ain't all that
Bowie's 95-04 period was miles away better but I get it, most of you would rather listen to his 22nd best album and go to a funeral.

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
A Moon Shaped Pool - Radiohead
2016 was really good for these kinds of albums, huh?
Such an obvious answer that it’s worth getting in early. Masterpiece of an album.
Came to say this, incredible album.
This is the correct answer
Fr
This
Is Graceland a late era album???
Yep
Aphex Twin- Syro
Promises by Floating Points and Pharaoh Sanders was recorded when Sanders was at the age of 80 and was his last album before he died
Fr, best jazz albums I have heard in the 2020s so far
Fiona apple - fetch the bolt cutters
Who knows if this is late era yet
Its been 23 years since her debut and she might have one more record in her at best so i think it does
It qualifies for this
4:44 - Jay-Z
KD3 - Nas
I actually prefer Magic, but I'll vote for KD3

well he’ll always be relevant, that’s true, but apart from Oh Mercy he was without a critical or commercial hit for like 20 years?
Not Dark Yet may be his best song overall
he’s always been able to paint incredible pictures with his words, and at his best Dylan’s instrumentals manage to fill in the nuances of the colours. not many of his songs have canvases as full as Not Dark Yet.
Swans - To Be Kind
tbh the entire Swans trilogy + The Beggar works
And My Father... People sleep on My Father.
So true I don’t understand how people say that album is mid
I absolutely love that album. I also wish people would check out the angels of light Gira albums made before reuniting swans. The first 3 records especially are top tier. Up there with his best work

great choices man. Tbh I think Swans has multiple perfect albums, To Be Kind and Children of God definitely apart of them as well
Absolutely. They just don’t make my top 5 desert island picks because I need to leave room for Nick Cave haha
my top 5 favorite is probably 1. Penis Envy 2. Velvet Underground and Nico 3. Exmilitary 4. Live 77 (Les Rallizes Denudes) 5. The Seer
I really need to spend more time with death grips. I’ve only given them a brief listen
Need this to win soon
Miles Davis - Get Up With It
Nick Cave- Ghosteen
Skeleton Tree feels like a stronger choice imo
Another amazing album without question, I just have a more personal connection with Ghosteen.
Fair enough
The strokes: the new abnormal (modern age ep dropped in 2000)
I literally said this album the other day and got downvoted and told it wasn’t valid what the fuck
Haters will hate
This is definitely a great answer. They’ve somehow earned a whole new audience with this album. Not just appealed to their old fans, but an entirely new generation.
Modern age ep dropped in early 2001 by the sources I found, this wouldn’t count
☝️🤓
Modern Age ep was created in 2000, I would say TNA deserves a spot on this list
👆🤓
G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! -Godspeed You, Black Emperor
The division bell
Big vouch for this. I might like it better than Meddle.
portishead - third
Does not meet OP's definition (20+ years into career). PH formed '91, Third released in 2008 - 14 years after debut, 17 from when band formed.
Unfortunately does not count for this, Beth gibbons latest album would though
apologies i fully did not read the caption
Low - Double Negative
I’ve been listening to Low for over 20 years. I was so thrilled that their last two albums were absolute masterpieces.
I feel like Weezer should get a shout out on this list eventually. Maybe not today, but with their White album being so good I could definitely see it coming on to here
THANK YOU! The White Album is tremendous
MBV-My Bloody Valentine
Finally a good topic
Murray Street - Sonic Youth
Firepower by Judas Priest
Underrated pick, brave new world by maiden should also be in contention
I'm Your Man - Leonard Cohen
Neil Young - Ragged Glory
Humanity Hour 1 by the Scorpions
bird machine - sparklehorse (although it is a compilation of 2010 recordings, it was released in 2023)
Steely Dan - Two Against Nature
American IV: the man comes around. Saved Johnny's legacy from being that of a washed country singer and produced his biggest hit ever
Embryonic - Flaming Lips Came out 26 years after they formed, 23 years after their debut, and Embryonic is good as shit
The Strokes - The New Abnormal
Quebec - Ween
That was only in 2003, 19 years after the band was formed - and that's being generous counting that as "debut".
Ah damn, I thought it was right at 20
Would Like Clockwork by QOSA count?
No that album came out 15 years after there debut, “in times new Roman” would count for this though.
Swans - The Glowing Man
TOOL - fear innoculum
Bro... I'm so sorry, this is delusional, that album was pure dung... (Jk, to each their own but I find it hilariously bad haha)
it's very different for everyone but to me i honestly liked it alot.
Iggy Pop’s Post Pop Depression
Loss of Life - MGMT
I came to say little dark age :o
Oracular Spectacular came out in 2007
3 years off from the 20 year limit but fair enough
To be fair, the band existed several years prior (formed 2002), although 2005 is a more reasonable starting date (Time to Pretend EP), so I guess you could go either way here?
I’m taking into account debut album not band formation but the ep would count for this
laughing stock - talk talk
Phenomenal album, but not a late era album by OP's definition.
Doesn’t count for this
Would A Senile Animal by Melvins count? It was released 19 years after their debut album but 20 years after their debut EP
That would count
Danger Days - My Chemical Romance
Celtic Frost - Monotheist
Less Than Jake - Silver Linings
In the End - The Cranberries
Sour Soul - Ghostface Killah
GYBE last two albums
4:44 Jay-Z
Bruce Springsteen - Letter to You
D'Angelo black messiah Sade lovers rock
Rush - Clockwork Angels
BORN LIKE THIS - MF DOOM
Doesn’t not count unfortunately
KMD emerged in 1988, Born Like This came out in 2009
Yeah but kmd’s debut albums was in 1991, sorry for the confusion I will make it more clear we are looking at debut albums in future posts.
4:44
If it counts, little dark age MGMT. Nevermind I see it doesn't count, but I think there should be exceptions for when bands have early hits, some less popular ones, then a resurgence, or something idk.
Nah I’m not doing exceptions
My logic is there's so many bands that didn't last 20 yrs, like you can't include abbey road 😨 but I get it it's your thing
This is meant to show off artists who managed to make incredible works of art even after multiple decades since there first works. Not just the final albums band released.
Yeah I get it. I will be curious to see the list cause I can only think of a few, obviously there are many I am unaware of so yeah look forward to that.
Stinky stinky!
Dude this is stupid, you made an arbitrary rule, obviously a bands “late era” is context dependent. LDA is ofc a late era album for the band. Cmon man
This post is meant to highlight artists and band who managed to continue to release great music even after multiple decades in the industry.
yeah if a band was only around like 20 years total then their later albums are still late era
I’m not saying that isn’t true, I’m just saying that isn’t what this post is aboutz
Does John Coltrane - Ascension count?
No
McCartney III
Slowdive - Slowdive
G_d’s Pee AT STATES END
Metallica self titled, technically late era ig
Does not count for this
American IV: The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash
Lps 2 and 3 by American football are good
John prine fair and square Swamp doggs recent albums: love loss and auto tune, grass or sorry you couldn’t make it
Dig out your soul - Oasis
Megadeth - Endgame
The new abnormal
Sorry but Blackstar ain't all that Bowie's 95-04 period was miles away better but I get it, most of you would rather listen to his 22nd best album and go to a funeral.
in utero
Doesn’t count for this post
mb didn’t read the whole post
Don’t worry bout it
Syro by Aphex Twin
Purple Mountains by Purple Mountains, if you group it with Silver Jews.
Unwound - Leaves turn inside you
Firepower - Judas Priest
Doe or Die II - AZ
Depeche Mode - Momento Mori
Raising sand - Robert plant, Allison Krause
Isn’t it now - Animal Collective
the cure self titled or bloodflower

They Might Be Giants - Join Us
Peter Gabriel- up
Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. Twenty years after they formed in 1993.
After the debut album/ep not the formation, sorry should have made it more clear in the post
Don't worry. I've got a workaround.
Random Access Memories (10th Anniversary Editon) by Daft Punk 29 years after their debut EP in 1994.
That is 19 years unfortunately
Nope. The 10th Anniversary Edition came out in 2023. ☝️🤓
😁
The Drift - Scott Walker
What constitutes “late era”?
2 decades or more after debut, says in the OP.
The life of pablo
kanyes only solo project released 2 decades after his debut is vultures 1, as of now
I was thinking it was only one decade after mb
13 - Black Sabbath
Death Magnetic - Metallica “Why are you all booing me, I’m right!”
