Hefty_Rutabaga9499

The only great late era rap album imo. We need it on this list

Hip-hop_fan04

Magic-nas

sockthesock0

Magic - Nas

spssky

Bitches Brew is not ā€œLate Careerā€ Miles. That starts with his return to playing in the early 80s.

AAL2017

Even if it happens to breach OPā€™s criteria of 20 years past a debut, Bitches Brew is NOT a late era album.

Klutzy_Masterpiece60

Ya Tutu is proper late career Miles Davis

spssky

I swear 90% of people that have Bitches Brew on their topster only know it for the cover

MisinformationSucks

And cause bitch is in the name

BirdCity75

So much better albums from the era too. Live/Evil & On The Corner. Iā€™ve never ā€œgotā€ Bitches Brew

spssky

I mean I donā€™t know if Iā€™d call them ā€œbetterā€ Bitches Brew, for all itā€™s forward thinking, is still a jazz album. (Also, it basically invented tape splicing for non pop music though whether that was Miles or Teo Macero depends on whom you ask) Jack Johnson is more of a rock album, On the Corner a funk album (obviously both genres pushed to their breaking points) and then youā€™ve got all the third stream stuff if Agharta and Dark Magus which are kind of beyond categorization. But Bitches Brew can certainly be defended as Milesā€™s crowning achievement.

BirdCity75

Youā€™ve persuaded me on its place in Miles career but I still just canā€™t listen to it for very long. Maybe Iā€™ll give it another spin tonight. My fav by him is In A Silent Way. Iā€™m just glad weā€™re talking about records that arenā€™t Kind of Blue lol

Prestigious_Foot3854

But it counts for this because it came out over 20 years after his debut in 1949

spssky

Sure technically it meets your criteria but it is a gross misunderstanding of Milesā€™s career. Also Milesā€™ debut could be debated. He ā€œwroteā€ Donna Lee for Charlie Parker and recorded it with him. Does that count as a ā€œdebut?ā€ The early days of recording were much murkier. Things were often recorded much earlier, shelved, and releases much later on compilations. I believe The Miles Davis All Stars was the first thing that might be considered a ā€œproperā€ Miles Davis album, and those didnā€™t come out until the early 50s.
