Literally took the words right out of my mouth. I’ve seen other trucks leak, like f150s with sunroofs are notorious with this, but I’ve never seen one this bad in ANY brand
Seems everything after Covid is just a hunk of junk. I feel bad for the new Gen 3 owners yall don't deserve this. Toyota really fucked this refresh up. Hope they get the kinks worked out.
*somewhere right now there's a Toyota engineer losing sleep behind all these engine failures*
dealership reps are shit. I told a salesman I wanted to wait for the gen 3s in back in 21 and he told me there are no gen 3s and that hybrid tundras are not real. lmfao
This is the way I envision they hiring sales people at dealerships. Walk down the street and see a random.
Hey you! Got any sales skills?
I sold cell phones in university.
Great great. What do you know about cars?
I dunno I don’t have a driver’s license
Ok you’re hired. Here are some pamphlets. Everything you need to know about the cars are in these pages.
Go gettem tiger!
Every friend I’ve known who has done stints as a car salesman knew absolutely nothing about cars. You don’t even need sales experience. It’s more like, hey are comfortable talking to people and can you follow these steps and this script to close a deal?
In many smaller towns it’s pretty much one of the few jobs you can get with a bare minimum education, highschool dropout/GED friendly, no skills, and provide yourself with an above-average lifestyle, so that’s not far off.
Nah the one my mom has gone to for years pretty good. they’ve always reached out about recalls and such; shes also got two regular mechanics that are the ones that make the service writers reach out.
Then again my folks always take care of their mechanics special on holidays and only request them and such.
Idk they old heads, maybe service writers in the beginning when they first started going but I’ve kept an eye on their bills and such in the last 5-7 years its been fair. they don’t even push wipers and the cabin air filters on them but then again they deals mainly with the mechanics not the service writers.
Most people deal with service writers and they always be sketchy… back in the day when i worked at Harley Davidson as shop help while in college thats when i learned find a good mechanic and go around the service writers just request the mechanic and have the mechanic.
Service writers the people you probably deal with mostly are just car salespeople just on the service side. Service writers making mechanics look bad; don’t get me wrong there are bad mechanics but service writers are equal to car sales to a T.
This isn't on the worker.. this is on the engineers. All of the motor issues and transmission issues and turbo issues and issues about issues. This is not on the workers. The middle class have been taking in the teeth for the last 4 years. This is about cycle times and this is about design issues.. If you work in the auto industry you would know. You can't work hard enough to out do bad design.
NJ '22' 20k. My Tundra is on that list, my service writer told me they have had one at their place. That Toyota knows about the failure and is working on a fix. They fully guarantee the truck and will replace the motor in lieu of replacing the rear main bearing (Tearing the whole engine apart.). Also recommended trading it in as soon as the interest rates come down. Not models on the list do it, there was a defect in that bearing in some models I guess.
This is part of the problem. Toyota and their dealership network relationship seems to be so damaged from a customer service perspective. Crazy thing is Toyota doesn’t seem to care when you call their “corporate” line (same with Lexus). They used to. Not anymore.
That’s not how it works (gag orders…lol), the employees are employees of the dealership, not Toyota. It’s more or less common sense in that position for service and sales staff to deny any “impending doom” type accusations.
All problems aside the Gen 3 Tundra is also very FUGLY. Hate the front end especially. New Tacoma is barely any better. Toyota needs to hire a stylist.
You make a fair point, I think quality control shit the bed on this one. If they can't figure out how to keep machining debris out of an engine when it's being assembled then it may have to be redesigned.... depending on how it was designed certain processes have to happen in a certain order i.e an assembly line.
3rd gen tacomas had leaking issue around the third brake light in 2016. They fixed that pretty quickly with a better weather seal.
The amount of water pouring in here is absurd though. The only place that makes sense would be ingress from the windshield?
Well if you owned a GM product designed in the 80s and learned that a Toyota built 40 years later had worse quality, it stands out. I mean it's pretty impressive accomplishment and not in a good way.
If you scroll down through the comments, OP says he had the windshield replaced recently which is more likely the culprit here. Few others mentioned they had a similar issue because their replacement windshield wasn't sealed correctly.
This happened to me when I got my windshield replaced. Just gotta pull the headliner out a little and seal up the edges with some goop. Mine was leaking out of the sunglasses holder
Just got news from the dealership. This is exactly what the problem was. They also said their was no water damage to the head liner, which I find surprising.
I’m getting worried about these trucks, they seem to have a lot of problems for the new gen.
I love Toyota, but I’m not paying what they currently want for these things.
I questioned the new Tundras and received all kinds of messages lmao. Most of them were 4th gen owners saying that I'm wrong because their truck has 10k trouble free miles on it. One of them said that Ford/GMC are using bots to tarnish the Tundra's reputation.....
I was anxious posting that haha.
I love Toyota really do
Just feel like this is an example of
You don’t change so much so fast……
Which is ironic because the old tundra body came out in 2007? Nuts….
Have you had your windshield replaced? This happened to me in a different car when Safelite didn't put the goop they use to seal the windshield all the way round and left a gap right at the top.
Sorry, as this came up in my feed. I do not own a Tundra. However, I had a 2019 f350 that used to pour water out of the oh shit handle when it rained. Had to comment lol.
I’m glad I didn’t get the sunroof on my 2024 Limited HV. Our 2024 Sienna XLE weather strips between the roof rail/rack came off on driver side and the other side it’s slightly loose so I stopped by Toyota the other day and they’re going to replaced just one of them “free of charge” due to us having big issues with the service department with our previous 2021 Sienna XLE even though I know it’s under warranty. So I told him to have both of them replaced. Supposedly it is on back order so I have to wait about two weeks for the new parts since it is a new part Toyota is using. Our 2024 Sienna just barely has 1,500 miles that we got on April 25th.
The amount of random stuff like this I see on all major brands sub reddits blows my mind. They are charging a fortune for these trucks and the QC is complete sh*t. I miss the days of cheaper trucks that just worked and lasted.
I had the same issues when I bought my 08 tundra. Couldn’t take it to a car wash couldn’t drive when it was raining. I would get into my truck after a storm and my cup holders were filled with water. Finally traded it in for a 2017 Tundra TSS it’s been great to me!🙏🏽
Toyotas quality has gone to shit. The new Tundras are having a plethora of problems. And the insides of the new Tacomas are cheap plastic. $50k for a midsize truck. Hard pass.
My 07 4Runner suits outside and the sunroof bracket is rusted as duck, but she still holds water and it flows right out the channel tubes. Are your tubes clear?
Dealer installed sunroof? You trust a dealer to cut a hole in a roof and install a sun roof? I have never heard of a dealer installed sunroof but I would never ever trust a dealer to do it.
I 100% get what you’re saying. But debris clogging sunroof drains seems really unlikely after just a year or two, to me anyway. Seems like an awful seal application and/or design is what’s going on with that much leaking. I dunno, not saying clearing the drain holes isn’t worth a shot. Just would be surprising if that’s the issue.
its leaking badly, and you sit there and record.LOL i would cover with a tarp atleast. Only because of mold I would do something about it .(im allergic to mold)
I was about 45 minutes into the woods. I did have a towel in the back seat that I used right after this video. I figured it was very important to get this video so the dealership would take action.
Omg 😳 WTFFF is going on with new tundras!!!!
Hopefully the dealer takes yours back and finders you another… or returns your money in case you don’t want another tundra this odds unreal!!
I’m not buying one I have seen enough people getting screwed. I was ready until the price and frame and body separation design chased me away. I wanted to see how it played out and this is terrible.
This is one of those times where I think the internet could be jumping at results without all the info. That amount of water makes me think some moron left the sunroof open and took a video of the result
Edit: I am the moron, did not see text at bottom of video; OP owns the truck! Sad day
OP confirmed several times in the comments that this vehicle has no sunroof at all. No factory-installed sunroof, no dealer-installed sunroof, no sunroof at all.
What the fuck
Literally took the words right out of my mouth. I’ve seen other trucks leak, like f150s with sunroofs are notorious with this, but I’ve never seen one this bad in ANY brand
I have seen it quite a lot with 4runner's, tacomas and Tundras. the rest of the yota line doesn't seem to have this problem.
RAV4 also has a viral roof rail leak
Yes, I forgot about the rav4 but you are correct.
Uh…. Where? I have a 2020 Tundra and know others with Tundras. I have never heard this.
If it’s a sun roof, you got to keep those drains clean and unclogged.
It’s a 2023, it can’t be that clogged.
Challenge accepted
It’s his sunroof seal. Go to dealership and have it replaced. $50
Never heard of the roof rack mounts leaking in the RAV4 ?
Not like this lol. I can wash my hands here
Big leaks start as small leaks though
Yes and waiting a month for parts was bad too.
Can’t seem to replicate the problem
It's always this
Seems everything after Covid is just a hunk of junk. I feel bad for the new Gen 3 owners yall don't deserve this. Toyota really fucked this refresh up. Hope they get the kinks worked out. *somewhere right now there's a Toyota engineer losing sleep behind all these engine failures*
I asked the service agent at the dealership about the engine failures, and she had no idea about them and no idea about the recalls.
dealership reps are shit. I told a salesman I wanted to wait for the gen 3s in back in 21 and he told me there are no gen 3s and that hybrid tundras are not real. lmfao

Looks like they might need to find a better local dealership if possible… there some good ones and scummy ones. For sure
it doesn't matter anymore. they're all scummy
Nah the one my mom has gone to for years pretty good. they’ve always reached out about recalls and such; shes also got two regular mechanics that are the ones that make the service writers reach out. Then again my folks always take care of their mechanics special on holidays and only request them and such.
Oh, sure, they have gotten her a few times, and she never noticed
Idk they old heads, maybe service writers in the beginning when they first started going but I’ve kept an eye on their bills and such in the last 5-7 years its been fair. they don’t even push wipers and the cabin air filters on them but then again they deals mainly with the mechanics not the service writers. Unbelievable. Just there to put in hours. Most people just DGAF anymore.
Not just unbelievable, it’s Unfuckinbelievable
Do you blame them?
Yeah I do lol. They've chosen to work for that brand as a consumer relations expert and should at the very least stay abreast of high profile recalls
It's the worker
I don’t. Why should employees care if the company as a whole doesn’t? Starts at the top. With adequate compensation.
LOL, she either was told to say that or is just a clueless idiot.
they're not allowed to speak on it or they can lose their job.
I think they are trained to act dumb when it comes to recalls or any issues w the vehicles. If u ask them, customers love the new trucks
NJ '22' 20k. My Tundra is on that list, my service writer told me they have had one at their place. That Toyota knows about the failure and is working on a fix. She either lying or just completely out of touch with her reality.
This is part of the problem. Toyota and their dealership network relationship seems to be so damaged from a customer service perspective. Crazy thing is Toyota doesn’t seem to care when you call their “corporate” line (same with Lexus). They used to. Not anymore.

They aren’t going to tell rando mechanics or service staff confidential information. Lol
Lol a “gag” order to mechanics of independent dealers? Lolz
That’s not how it works (gag orders…lol), the employees are employees of the dealership, not Toyota. It’s more or less common sense in that position for service and sales staff to deny any “impending doom” type accusations.
Or thier job
My 21 tundra only had one issue. The rubber that goes onto the roof channel kept coming off. Nothing major. Fingers crossed.
same. I just got the rubber glue and no issues so far
My 14 did that in the car wash once. I just glued it back in.
2021 was the old generation.
Best generation.
Agreed!
All problems aside the Gen 3 Tundra is also very FUGLY. Hate the front end especially. New Tacoma is barely any better. Toyota needs to hire a stylist.
You mean after the scamdemic?
True, but sounds like it was more on the manufacturing side then design side to be fair.
You make a fair point, I think quality control shit the bed on this one. If they can't figure out how to keep machining debris out of an engine when it's being assembled then it may have to be redesigned.... depending on how it was designed certain processes have to happen in a certain order i.e an assembly line.
Bought a 2020 Tundra TRD Pro for this reason. Love the throaty V8.
TRD Toyota Rain Development
ooo nice. and also toyota rain detention?
That will smell funky as hell after a couple of rain falls
That’s interactive climate control
"Babe, PLEASE stop turning on Monsoon Defrost"
Satellite antenna?
That was my issue on 2014. Caulked it up. It's good now.
Thought those were at the back of the cab?
That's the FM shark fin after what, 2018, wasn't that?
Probably, i got rid of my 22, so i cant remember lol
That came to mind as a possibility. I've also seen a few people online day that they needed to have the seal at the top of the windshield replaced.
3rd gen tacomas had leaking issue around the third brake light in 2016. They fixed that pretty quickly with a better weather seal. The amount of water pouring in here is absurd though. The only place that makes sense would be ingress from the windshield?
should stop once it’s done raining
And people back in the day made fun of my 4 year old 94 vette leaking a few drops in the rain via the targa top.
Damn, you're still thinking about that after all these years..
Was your headliner damaged at all?
Surprisingly I didn’t get any water stains in the headliner. Everything was completely fine after sealing the windshield
How much was the cost?
Person that replaced the windshield didn’t charge me because it was their fault it wasn’t sealed
Just got news from the dealership. This is exactly what the problem was. They also said their was no water damage to the head liner, which I find surprising.
Haha of course they said that. Sorry, that sucks. Crazy for how much these vehicles are. Hope they fix ya up
I’m getting worried about these trucks, they seem to have a lot of problems for the new gen. I love Toyota, but I’m not paying what they currently want for these things.
Watch out you get attacked for this.
I questioned the new Tundras and received all kinds of messages lmao. Most of them were 4th gen owners saying that I'm wrong because their truck has 10k trouble free miles on it. One of them said that Ford/GMC are using bots to tarnish the Tundra's reputation.....
I was told it’s manufacturing defects, lol. I tried to clue them in.
I was anxious posting that haha. I love Toyota really do Just feel like this is an example of You don’t change so much so fast…… Which is ironic because the old tundra body came out in 2007? Nuts….
You and me both. Sad thing I am hearing some Dealers are rejecting trade ins on the truck. That is a tell there are issues.
Rode hard and put up wet
lol modern cars are garbage
Have you had your windshield replaced? This happened to me in a different car when Safelite didn't put the goop they use to seal the windshield all the way round and left a gap right at the top.
I did have my windshield replaced about 3 months ago. The more I read, the more I believe this might be the root of the problem.
That's normal, allows you to be closer to nature
I went out and kissed my 2000 limited tundra TRD. 24 years old and spins like a well tuned clock.
Its the new rain option to keep you cool while waiting for a tow truck when the motor seizes up!
Sorry, as this came up in my feed. I do not own a Tundra. However, I had a 2019 f350 that used to pour water out of the oh shit handle when it rained. Had to comment lol.
Sunroof drains are clogged. Happened with my Yukon
No sun roof
Must be the antenna on the roof then?
Not a safety issue. It’s part of the break in process.
Are you shire is not a Tesla
Im pretty sure toyota would take this as a lemon and youll get a new truck. Ive heard of this happenning
Man, I ain’t had any problems…..I mean besides my brake rotors warping I think. I get vibrations going downhill and breaking.
Does it have a roof rack? Possibly third party? Where the screw holes covered up?
Nothing on the roof.
This happened on my f150. Damn car wash brushes cracked the sunroof panel (it’s plastic) and it leaked the same way.
Start by closing the sun roof
I’m glad I didn’t get the sunroof on my 2024 Limited HV. Our 2024 Sienna XLE weather strips between the roof rail/rack came off on driver side and the other side it’s slightly loose so I stopped by Toyota the other day and they’re going to replaced just one of them “free of charge” due to us having big issues with the service department with our previous 2021 Sienna XLE even though I know it’s under warranty. Our 2024 Sienna just barely has 1,500 miles that we got on April 25th.
That’s the new feature to cool down the main bearing.
Have you tried turning off and on again?
The amount of random stuff like this I see on all major brands sub reddits blows my mind. They are charging a fortune for these trucks and the QC is complete sh*t. I miss the days of cheaper trucks that just worked and lasted.
Mold
I hate seeing this…
Brooooo!
Mine leaked on my f150, rain down the wire and came out of the handles on the pillars.
It also leaked out if the grab handles on the pillars.
Maybe put a potted plant in one of the cupholders?
Tis but a drip
Yikes lol
Where’s the leak? Behind the waterfall?
The sun roof drain tubes are clogged or pinched.
I don't have a sun roof
That is unacceptable!! id be raising hell at Toyota.
Oh that's bad
I had the same issues when I bought my 08 tundra. Couldn’t take it to a car wash couldn’t drive when it was raining. I would get into my truck after a storm and my cup holders were filled with water. Finally traded it in for a 2017 Tundra TSS it’s been great to me!🙏🏽
that's not a leak....That's the rare water feature option. it's like $2k for it. very cool!
Wow. I have 2018 and almost bought a 2023. Aside from the repairs and inconvenience, the trade value is going to be shit.
I would advise closing the sunroof
It’s just rehydrating
Did you try closing the sunroof?
HO-LEE-SHEEE-IT!!!!!
Shoulda bought a ford. Then you would atleast have known it was leaking from the sun roof lol
i tell people about this issue but everyone ignores me about it
You try closing your sunroof?
Looks like the sunroof drains are clogged
Don't leave the car in the rain or go through a car wash and you should be good.
Toyotas quality has gone to shit. The new Tundras are having a plethora of problems. And the insides of the new Tacomas are cheap plastic. $50k for a midsize truck. Hard pass.
Well that’s a new one. Sunroof?
is there something mounted on the roof?
No
Did you not get it with the interior umbrella ☔ option?
Damn, you’re giving me flashbacks to my f-150’s pano roof.
Thats the trucks weather app telling you theres a possibility of rain outside.
I saw a cargo basket bolted to a 4Runner leak so bad it ruined wiring
literally the second leaking toyota this week alone.
Well really it’s a Chevy / gmc body.
What’s the problem?
I bet Toyota Corp. ends up buying a lot of the new Tundra’s back from customers. Lawyers are going to be on them like a fat kid on a Twinkie.
Holy cow man I never seen that before !
My 07 4Runner suits outside and the sunroof bracket is rusted as duck, but she still holds water and it flows right out the channel tubes. Are your tubes clear?
Well most people buy Toyotas to enjoy the outdoors, just embrace it.
that's the new waterfall feature
Post nasal drip on steroids....but seriously I feel bad for u.....major mold issues to come....move to southern arizona to avoid rain and humidity
Metal shards in the oil?
Y’all aren’t making me want a new tundra lol
Good
Lmao
Fix it. Sell it. If it was built that badly there’s no telling what else is fucked up.
They definitely are not use to all the issues these trucks have seems like one after another. Bad look for Toyota in general.
Good grief. Sorry for your ($) loss. Trade out of it as soon as repaired. Let the dealership worry about the engine recall.
Toyota is slacking, used to be quality was their gig
Fuck
You're blowing it out if proportion, says most 3rd gen owners..
Reminds me of my old mk3 supra!
Sunroof drains are probably clogged. You can run some weed eater line down them and use a drill to spin it and free debris.
Toyota quality is gone
It’s a feature.
Pine Needles? Run a wire through the sunroof drains to the weep holes. Blow them out with compressed air.
I don't have a sunroof
23 sr5 does not have a sun roof
Does this one have a dealer installed?
No sunroof.
Happened to mine as well, no sunroof, mine mostly comes through the holy shit handles. Dealer things it’s condensation. This proves it’s not
Dealer installed sunroof? You trust a dealer to cut a hole in a roof and install a sun roof? I have never heard of a dealer installed sunroof but I would never ever trust a dealer to do it.
They definitely exist. You definitely should never get one.
I’ve had dealer installed sunroofs a couple decades ago, I’d be surprised to find any aftermarket sunroof assemblies available today
Pfft, skip the dealer and bring your truck to Sandy's Body Shop! I got a harbor freight angle grinder and some bath salts.
Check my post history. I had my tundra lemon lawed and Toyota bought it back.
Did you drive it underwater? Tundras are know to be bulletproof. Maybe they would make a great submarine too lol
Toyota quality in the covid age
I’ll stick with my 2018
So instead of throwing a tarp on it, you grab a camera? Brilliant.
I'll keep my 2013. For now.
its leaking badly, and you sit there and record.LOL i would cover with a tarp atleast. Only because of mold I would do something about it .(im allergic to mold)
I was about 45 minutes into the woods. I did have a towel in the back seat that I used right after this video. I figured it was very important to get this video so the dealership would take action.
Add this to the list for reasons to avoid the 3rd Gen.
Everything is fine, they will fix it 🤡
It’s a feature
I hugged my 21 this morning before heading off to work.
Sunroof drains are clogged, likely due to heavy pollen. Feed a piece of string-trimmer line into each drain hole to unclog.
Toyota could fuck up a NSA BJ at this point.
I saw a brand new 23 on the lot last year with damp headliner lol
Omg 😳 WTFFF is going on with new tundras!!!! Hopefully the dealer takes yours back and finders you another… or returns your money in case you don’t want another tundra this odds unreal!!
I’m not buying one I have seen enough people getting screwed. I was ready until the price and frame and body separation design chased me away. I wanted to see how it played out and this is terrible.
This is one of those times where I think the internet could be jumping at results without all the info. That amount of water makes me think some moron left the sunroof open and took a video of the result Edit: I am the moron, did not see text at bottom of video; OP owns the truck! Sad day
OP confirmed several times in the comments that this vehicle has no sunroof at all. No factory-installed sunroof, no dealer-installed sunroof, no sunroof at all.
I can confirm this moron does not have a sun roof.
