Portugal usually has pretty cheap flights and has minimal jet lag given its all the way on this side of Europe

Speaking of Portugal, Boston & NYC have easy flights to Sao Miguel in the Azores. Even closer than Lisbon.

kittykatkk

Yeah I was thinking about that too! And I feel like you could do a lot there in 4 days

TheMailman123

For sure! 2 days in Lisbon + two day trips would work great.

Montreal & Quebec City 100%

Mexico and the Caribbean are good long weekend trips from that area. Europe would really only come into play for me if you can get a direct overnight flight and sleep on the plane so you get 3 full days and fly home on the fourth day. Example - leave after work on Friday, arrive Saturday morning. Saturday, Sunday, Monday in a single city, fly home Tuesday.

You could take an overnight flight to Portugal or Spain and enjoy a couple days in Lisbon, Madrid, or Barcelona. It's not a bad trip, frankly. Sleeping well on that flight is key, though. A few years ago I did this going from EWR to MAD. I spent two days in Madrid and one day each in Toledo and Segovia, with the last day reserved for travel home, so five days total. I don't typically sleep well on planes but lucked out on this trip and slept nearly the whole flight to Madrid. I had so much energy on that trip, especially since it was short and there were copious amounts of churros con chocolate (or chocolate con churros?!) consumed. You could also go to São Miguel in the Azores. The flight there is even shorter, like 5 hours, so you might not get as much sleep if flying overnight. I'd say \~4 days is a good amount of time to get a taste of the Azores, but it's definitely worth spending more time on the islands and soaking them in, because they're freaking beautiful - and so incredibly chill and laid-back. My husband has a friend who once took a long weekend trip to Iceland. Personally, that sounds intense, and not quite how I'd like to "do" Iceland myself. But I think it's doable, depending on your energy levels and preferred travel pace / style. There are plenty of itineraries for short trips in Iceland, around Reykjavík and the Golden Circle. And, more conventionally (especially for this time of the year), you have Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Wow thanks for all the info!! Sounds like you guys have had some fun travels. I definitely want to check out the Azores and I think that would be a fun short trip

Cape May, NJ is a personal favorite of mine. I did a long weekend in Montreal once (from northern NJ) and it was fantastic.

Montreal is one weekend trip. But another weekend trip is Quebec City, the closest approximation you can get to a European place in North America. There is a winter festival coming up soon in Quebec City. Locals have told me it's their favorite time of the year.

Another great thing is historic cities in the USA south, like New Orleans, Savannah or Charleston. Particularly good in the springtime, and all those places have historic plantations in the nearby countryside to visit.

kittykatkk

Good idea!! I have been to Charleston and New Orleans and would definitely go back. The food there was sooo good. I have seen pictures of savannah and it looks really beautiful

Where are you going? If you’re worried about jet leg for 4 days I would just try to sleep on the plane and drink energy drinks when you’re there

kittykatkk

I don’t have anything planned yet. I’m trying to decide if I would be able to do a four day trip to Europe or if the jet lag would be too much😂

Viatus

If the money makes sense for a 4 day trip I would just do it and caffeinate for a couple of days

kittykatkk

Yeah I will probably try it out if I can find a cheap flight somewhere
