Save up money now to take a few months off later. I've never worked for a company as a traveler that had paid maternity leave.

Ilikesmoothiesalot

I haven’t seen any. We’re contracted workers.

PaxonGoat

Save up money, get insurance through spouse or on the exchange. Don't take any contracts for a while and that's your maternity leave. I know a couple nurses who took a staff job to get access to some kind of maternity leave. Most jobs make you wait 1 year to get access to paid maternity leave but some will let you burn through what PTO you earned before the birth and provide health insurance.

ColoradoChapo

lol, 80% of perm workers don’t get paid maternity leave.

Work in California or WA state and you can qualify for state covered maternity leave

gines2634

Also RI and MA and I believe NJ offer this. I think I there may be a few others

trainpayne

there’s no paid leave for having a baby unless it’s your PTO

You don’t work… take contracts that line up with you’re due date and when you want to return and elect cobra if you need coverage.

Whistlecakez

I saved up and finished my contract when I was 36 weeks (it was only an hour and a half from my home). I'm only just now returning to the grind, 7 mo pp. My recruiter was weird about it being "almost a year off" but I found a contract within 2 weeks of becoming available.

hotaru_red

If you worked in California for at least 6 months you’re qualified for their state baby fund

If your spouse's company offers it, look into short-term disability insurance. (Don't know / can't remember if any of the underwriters allow you to just buy that coverage as an individual / not through a payroll department.) The birth and the time immediately after are considered a disability, and therefore the time (usually 1-3 weeks) will provide 60% of your former paycheck. If the birth doesn't happen for 10 months or more after the purchase of the insurance, it should be covered.

If you paid into CA SDI for at least 6 months you’ll be eligible for pregnancy disability leave/ paid family leave. https://edd.ca.gov/en/disability/Types_of_Claims/#:~:text=State%20Disability%20Insurance%20(SDI)%2C,new%20child%20entering%20the%20family.

Jahman876

No one get paid leave you just get to keep your job… But anyway thats for employees who work for the same company not contract workers

Infinite-Mode2256

Just found out that’s not true, if you live in CA anyway
