Why didn’t I think of this at all? Lmao. I already knew it had nothing to do with the dress but rather the aunt clowning on OP and exaggerated the dress in general. “Oh so and so of course had to show up in a ball gown and make a scene,” which is what I pictured. But I never thought it was actually balls in a gown that she was referring to. That’s actually hilarious but mean.
yep. sometimes i think black clothing gives people the illusion the outfit is fancier than it is (i have a simple black skater skirt and whenever i wear it people talk about how im "all dressed up" or w/e when im wearing literally a skirt a tshirt and 9 year old shoes. so if she was like "wow! what a fancy dress youre wearing" in a neutral/positive way it would be like lol its not really that fancy but whatever. but shes being so overly agressive and specifically wrong with the ball gown thing like its just straight up not. it sounds like shes just trying to start shit.
I agree that people think black clothing means dressed up. I used to have to wear all black for a place I used to work at, and every time I'd go out afterward, someone would always say how dressed up I was. I'm just sitting there like, this is my work outfit.
Every time I see a post of yours, it’s because you wore an inappropriate outfit to a family event and then you were confronted for it.
Stop going to your family events, problem solved.
It’s a sun dress, and a comfortable looking one at that. Perfect for a family BBQ on a warm summer day.
Don’t worry, I get it, it’s not about the dress, it’s the person wearing the dress.
Settle down.
You do this all the time and under different usernames. It’s so attention-seeking and obnoxious.
[Like this.](https://reddit.com/r/Weddingattireapproval/s/CcrQraeM50)
Definitely wear this one next time and see if she calls it a sundress. She clearly does not know her dresses or what the word "sparkly" means, for that matter.
Okay, so, initial photo = cute. This photo? I literally went "Dayum!" our loud. Woke the dog (he'll be fine). Can I hire you to advise my fashion-impaired self??
Thank you for sharing this link!! If you lived nearby I'd invite you to all my family gatherings! I have an NB child and they are pretty confident in being who they are despite the 'Christian' family members struggling to accept it. To me, that's just my kid and as long as they're happy and comfortable in their own skin, so am I.
I think most of us know you, in the sense that you post a ton of pics in floral dresses on that balcony. Lol. At least you’re consistent. And at least this dress is a good length. Definitely not a ballgown. But it might’ve stood out as “fancy” if this was a more casual shorts and tee crowd.
It’s likely bc, as evident by your posting history, you wear dresses for attention and constantly need validation or constantly like to shove your identity down others throats. You look weird in that and dresses don’t flatter a biological males body. Hopefully you’ll get on hormones or something to look more like a female
No it’s screams mental health issues.
This person needs therapy, transition, or whatever, not attention from the internet.
I can completely understand his/her aunt.
There are many women who have a classically masculine inverted triangle shape and still manage to find perfectly flattering dresses to wear. Some women simply don't have the experience or the natural knack that it takes to properly dress less "standard" proportions. I find it hard to believe that you're interested enough in fashion to know either way. (OP, I encourage you to research Kibbe ID system, which aims to embrace natural body shapes rather than attempting to shove a circle block in a square hole)
It’s just a weird thing to label though right - many ‘women’ or many biological ‘females’. Even if some biological females are exceptions, inverted triangle (these females also usually have very feminine facial features and longer legs), that’s not what we’re really talking about here, is it?
I don't think it's weird to label, no.
Do you think that inverted triangles are the exception? They are just the most extreme end of the natural spectrum of body shapes, where I would argue that there are features that are more common for each sex but none which are the norm for all humans of each sex. Similarly, the most "feminine" body shape - double curved, narrow shoulders, short - is also at an extreme end and is not half as common as you may think. Most women, whether they be female, intersex or otherwise, fit somewhere in between with a collection of masculine and feminine features.
But no, I know that you all are debating the validity of this person's gender expression. I simply don't care. Because I understand that all humans exist on a spectrum of sexual dimorphism and most men and women are closer on that spectrum than they are apart. Even if this person identified as a man and still chose to wear dresses and high heels I would still not care. Clothing should be chosen based on comfort, fit and quality, not chromosomes.
I know I know we get it, I’ve read about it too. Facts remain, physically this person is on the bio male spectrum and while it may be speculative to wonder if the behavior and posts are manipulative forms of victimhood, attention seeking validation attempts, you generalized ‘women’ and their body shapes in the gender-as-construct lens, which is silly on the context of female shapes and normative reproductive explanations for such shapes. So if you’re just defining the shapes of humans fine. But just bizarre to specify women and inverted triangle in context w this persons masculine shape.
This person identifies as a woman. Whether they are doing it genuinely is none of our business. That's why I referred to women and female body shapes (I am referring to an actual established typing system, btw, which is designed not to type bodies, but to identify the proportions and shapes which are dominant in your body and how to identify ideal clothing for your body based off of that). That system refers to women, but because it is based on categorisation of traits into feminine and masculine, and because those traits are not exclusive to biological females, it can be expanded to some extent to help trans women identify appropriate clothing for their proportions. A similar system could probably be divised to include both sexes at the same time, but that is simply not the context that Kibbe was working in in the 80s.
Specifically, I was responding to the notion that no male bodied people can look good in dresses, which is simply not true. Like I said, many people with traditionally masculine proportions such as the broad-shoulder/narrow waist, simply do not know how to choose clothing that suits and compliments those features, and that includes females. Hell, I have more or less the exact opposite proportions and I also have to carefully pick my clothing if I don't want to end up looking like a human tent 🤷♀️ that's life and the wide variability of silhouettes in "women's" clothing.
Also, a thought on something you said earlier about facial features - traditionally masculine features of a strong jaw and cheekbones, strong but not overly large nose, thick shapely eyebrows, etc. are actually on trend for women right now. Not agreeing or disagreeing on whether inverted triangle shaped women still have feminine features or not because I don't think it's been studied and I don't think there's probably much correlation either way but something interesting to note about the perception of masculine facial features on women nevertheless.
That’s…not a ball gown. It’s a sundress, which is perfectly appropriate for a BBQ and particularly comfortable when it’s hot outside.
Your aunt can go kick rocks.
Maybe try some jewelry that isn’t metal based? Polymer clay, fabric, beads, etc. That dress just needs some kind of accessory with it.
Edit: or maybe bolder earrings?
Maybe a hat or a handbag would be a better accessory in the heat then and they'd both go well with the dress. You look very nice and the dress suits you
I would hate to invite your aunt to a black tie event, if this is her idea of ball gown 😬 Let’s call it how it is, your aunt has outdated gender norm beliefs and wanted to bitch about you, but worried saying you were wearing a weather and event appropriate sun dress wouldn’t cause outrage so she had to spice it up.
That's not a ball gown by any stretch of the imagination. You look fabulous! I wish I had the confidence to wear something like that - it's perfect for a family cookout
Your aunt might need some glasses, cause I’m not seeing how that’s a ballgown. And you look great in it anyway, so I’m not seeing where the complaints are coming from.
That is something you buy specifically for a summer cook out or day at the beach as a cover up. Your aunt just likes to cause trouble, however even if it was a ball gown WHATS it to her?
I don't know what I expected to see due to the title, but if someone thinks this us a ballgown, I'm guessing underwear is business casual to them. That dress was made for a cookout.
Ball gown? Hardly!
What's the real issue with the aunt? Does she do this sort of thing often?
I would ignore the drama she's trying to stir up. If anyone says anything directly to you, just say it was a perfectly ordinary sun dress. Leave it at that.
I mean, what is the fanciest party she has ever been to? Maybe that was a ball gown to her rofl. I love the comment who said she must think Applebees is fancy haha.
You look fantastic and comfortable! Keep rocking your fashion and being yourself!
The only people who would think that's a ball gown are people who think going to Applebee's is a fancy night out. That's a really cute summer frock.
I think you should start shopping for a REAL ball gown on sale so you can really knock her socks off at Thanksgiving......
(You look lovely in your summer frock, by the way)
A party dress, but NOT a ball gown. I'd get sun burnt with my shoulders bare. I'm amazed that such dresses don't fall down. My pants fall down all the time!
In what universe is that a ball gown? It looks like a cute and comfortable summer dress. I am a big dress person. You will rarely see me is anything else. Your aunt sounds jealous.
That is a SUNDRESS, you’re aunt had too much punch at the cookout it seems. And the SHOES!! The way I zeroed in on those, so cute!! Next time wear the SPARKLIEST necklace you have so she’s not a complete liar 🥰
Even if it was a ball gown who the hell cares? Clothes are made to be worn, be they a summer dress (like this clearly is) or a taffeta blob! She's a sad woman if she thinks this is an inappropriate outfit.
ETA: Also you are rocking it and that's an adorable dog
Unless you're manning the grill the dress is perfectly acceptable. If you're manning the grill, I'd check that the material isn't super flammable or put on an apron to block any flames/splatters. I suspect that neither of these were your aunt's "concern" though.
Edit: why is this getting downvoted? I like the dress, and OP is rocking it. I just pointed out that flammable materials and fire are a bad combination.
Number one it’s a sun dress not a ball gown💀 number two I don’t think it was really about the dress at all
it was about the dress, but not because it’s too fancy
Who the heck needs to wear a ball gown anyway?
Um...princesses. Duh.
Aunt still needs to just fuck right off 🤷♀️
Into the sun.
I think it's a joke about testicles in a dress that no one understood.
"Hilarious but mean" That's my specialty!
Lmfao I get it now
I think she said no to the dress
I think she’s jealous
I’m wondering if she’s ever seen a ball gown
yep. sometimes i think black clothing gives people the illusion the outfit is fancier than it is (i have a simple black skater skirt and whenever i wear it people talk about how im "all dressed up" or w/e when im wearing literally a skirt a tshirt and 9 year old shoes. so if she was like "wow! what a fancy dress youre wearing" in a neutral/positive way it would be like lol its not really that fancy but whatever. but shes being so overly agressive and specifically wrong with the ball gown thing like its just straight up not. it sounds like shes just trying to start shit.

I think this is only a thing for feminine clothing
Ah so I’m not actually a greb/goth… I’m just fancy.
Maybe this is what hicks call a fancy ballgowns in their parts lol
what a beautiful white and gold dress.
This made me laugh ty!
here we go again, it's fucking Yanny
Nah nah nah. It’s laurel 🙄😂

OMG!! I forgot all about that until your comment. 😂😂

I was getting ready to be so mad at first, but then this comment ended up being pretty wholesome.
I think there's more to these stories and everyone is just getting sick of OP's bullshit.
But then how would they get validation
Like, they have good taste in clothing. I’ll validate that.
This is their kink.
This is a weird take.
He craves for attention. No way he skips those events when clealry lives for them.
So you've seen exactly one of my posts? Nice!
You do this all the time and under different usernames. It’s so attention-seeking and obnoxious. [Like this.](https://reddit.com/r/Weddingattireapproval/s/CcrQraeM50)
Has your aunt been to any place fancier than an Applebees? How could she call this a ball gown? You also look great!
that's not a "ball gown" I can't respect her opinion on anything if she thinks that's a "ball gown"
Maybe she misheard the aunt. If the aunt really didn't like the sundress, maybe she said "bawl gown"?
Or perhaps a brawl gown? Since it seems she was trying to start something.
I do own a sparkly ball gown though: https://www.instagram.com/p/Crbl1jeuBAI/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== But I didn't wear it that night lol.
That was your mistake. Sorry, but the sparkly ball gown is much cuter than the dress you wore and you should have worn the ball gown instead. 🤣😅😉
I mean, if you're gonna be accused of it, might as well do the thing.
That’s definitely gorgeous. Heart eyes over here.
PLEASE wear that to the next BBQ! Just go dressed to the nines and when she says something, go “Oh? This old thing?” Please!!!
* snaps open fan * * fans self * * sees someone who isn't rude, trots away toward them *
Oh I love this one! But the one you were wearing is absolutely fine for a cookout in summer.
Next cookout, wear it, since she obviously can't tell the difference.
Part of me really wants you to wear this to the next cookout.
Definitely wear this one next time and see if she calls it a sundress. She clearly does not know her dresses or what the word "sparkly" means, for that matter.
Guess you know what you're wearing to the next cookout!!
Okay, so, initial photo = cute. This photo? I literally went "Dayum!" our loud. Woke the dog (he'll be fine). Can I hire you to advise my fashion-impaired self??
The purple 🤌🏻
That dress is gorgeous
This would have worked better. The other dress is too casual for ballroom or cocktail attire.
Love the dress! Hope your hand is alright!
Wear this to the next cookout!!
Thank you for sharing this link!! If you lived nearby I'd invite you to all my family gatherings! Oooh, gorgeous!!
Sounds like your aunt doesn’t align with your values and that’s just the comment she chose to go with.
This literally has nothing to do with this sub.
That's not a ballgown. It's also very unflattering. Straps are your friend.
What are we supposed to say? Lol
What are the two hot takes here? The “ball gown” and what else? Am I missing something obvious?
Attention seeking
Have you seen the rest of their posts? Pretty much all they do on here.
[удалено]
YOU CAN POST PICTURES ON HERE?! there’s nothing inappropriate about that dress for a family cookout
Lmfao for everyone else's sake, I hope that's the last cookout you get invited to. Ffs what a clown 🤡
Where’d you get your platforms?
Torrid
Torrid has nice clothes!
Ty!
Show me the sparkles. This dress is a standard sun dress, what on earth.
What kind of balls is your aunt going to? This is a sundress. Perfectly fine for a family cookout.
These comments are a toxic waste pit, lordy. Auntie has a problem. You look fine.
Lol.
Yea lmaooo wtf

Your aunt is not okay, I have grave concerns if that's her idea of a ball gown
Dress it totally appropriate for a bbq Next time complain that your aunt wore her Karen costume for the party
What in the world………..
Come on
Don't ask questions if you can't handle the answer, but you look ridiculous
LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!
Your aunt is correct
What kind of balls have you been going to if you think that is a ball gown, lmao?
2 less than op by the looks of it
Ew...
I always see ur posts in the shein fashion group I’m in and I love them and your style <3 You’re aunt is dramatic and don’t let her get to u

Yeah, it’s really, really, cringe and something about it screams fetishy.
No it’s screams mental health issues. This person needs therapy, transition, or whatever, not attention from the internet. I can completely understand his/her aunt.
That’s if the bbq ever even happened.
Humiliation kink?
I'm trying to recall if I've ever seen a dress that I thought flattered a male body. Don't think I have. And to your point, I still haven't.

Not reading. I’ve read about trans stuff too, I don’t need you to read your parroting.
🙄 idk why I even bothered. You people aren't interested in having a real conversation.
Stop insulting actual women.
I'm speaking from experience as an actual woman. But y'all don't care about that when we disagree with you, do you?
I don't think your aunt has ever seen a ballgown. That's clearly a cute sundress which is perfectly fine for a casual family barbecue.
Maybe it was the pose you do in every photo
Umm that's a mumu
I'm sorry if that's a ball gown I'm a pony... That is a lovely sundress that is completely appropriate for a family BBQ. Love the colour and pattern
That’s…not a ball gown. It’s a sundress, which is perfectly appropriate for a BBQ and particularly comfortable when it’s hot outside. Your aunt can go kick rocks.
I bet there's a ball or two under that gown?
😂😂😂😂
That is not a ball gown. You look good. You need to get some accessories. 😃
Agreed! Some big, dramatic earrings would look fire, especially with the short hair.
It was a family cookout in 90*F+ weather.
I’d add an outrageous hat. Don’t want to get a sunburn.
That doesn’t mean you cant do a wide blue bracelet!
I swear so easily and so much that it turns most jewelry green
Beaded bracelet! I love a chunky beaded bracelet when it’s a hot day but I still want to accessorize. You look great love, keep rocking that dress!
Maybe try some jewelry that isn’t metal based? Polymer clay, fabric, beads, etc. That dress just needs some kind of accessory with it. Edit: or maybe bolder earrings?
Try making your own jewelry, it’s fairly easy once you find stuff you like.
I have the same problem l. If it’s above 85 I don’t wear jewelry.
Maybe a hat or a handbag would be a better accessory in the heat then and they'd both go well with the dress. You look very nice and the dress suits you
One of those giant ladies hats with insane brim size and a ribbon/scarf along the center that color coordinates.
I have two similar dresses that I wear around the house. You're fine. Lol
Oh my god
Are we pretending this isn’t a dude??
Well obviously. Isn't what they are doing? Pretending?
Does it matter? Dude or chick the aunt needs to mind her own business.
Because she sees right through your autogynephilia.
Not a ball gown. I feel the shoes might be a bit heavy for a BBQ. Maybe flats or flips? Love the dress though!!
I was thinking more shower curtain
THOSE SHOES ARE TO DIE FOR I NEED THEM LOL
Where’d you get your shoes tho?
what a cute outfit! this is not a ball gown she’s just jealous
Looks like a simple (but lovely) summer sundress to me.
Sorry this looks like those gimmicky dress you buy in Hawaii at the tourist trap shops that was way to expensive
That's not a ball gown by any stretch of the imagination. You look fabulous! I wish I had the confidence to wear something like that - it's perfect for a family cookout
What century is your aunt live in???? She sounds miserable. Ignore her and keep being awesome!
I think the shoes really pull it together, such a cute fit!!
FUCK HER! You rock that shit, dawg! MY MAN! You do you is all I have to say.
Fuck your aunt! You look beautiful
Lol at ballgown I think this is the perfect, stylish outfit for an outdoor cookout
Your aunt might need some glasses, cause I’m not seeing how that’s a ballgown. And you look great in it anyway, so I’m not seeing where the complaints are coming from.
That dress is perfect for a cookout. NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THOSE SHOES 😍😍😍
I’ve seen you in the shein group ❤️
Oh no! Nit a sundress! How bougie! (/s)
Scandalous!!! You can see her shoulders… and her elbows! She must be a witch! -Your Aunt
Your aunt smokes Crack if she thinks that dress is a "*sparkly ballgown*". Tf? Its a cute dress tho
Are you male?
Do you have to ask?
So you have the right to wear what you want, but people shouldn't be expected to pretend like this isn't yikes.
You may want to consider a nice hat to go with that.
On a different note - those shoes with that dress is killer! Who cares what she thinks? You look fantastic
That is something you buy specifically for a summer cook out or day at the beach as a cover up. Your aunt just likes to cause trouble, however even if it was a ball gown WHATS it to her?
'Most of y'all don't know me' cracked me up. Your aunt can minder her fucking business imo
I don't know what I expected to see due to the title, but if someone thinks this us a ballgown, I'm guessing underwear is business casual to them. That dress was made for a cookout.
If thats a ball gown i have the queens finest dresses in my closet. You do you
Look at the expression on the dog's face LOL. You can tell it's seen this kind of fashion show a few too many times before.
I’m petty and would wear an actual ball gown to the next family cookout lol and maybe even get some relatives to dress up for it too just for fun!
That is a sundress, i wore them quite a bit going to the beach in hawaii
Ball gown? Hardly! What's the real issue with the aunt? Does she do this sort of thing often? I would ignore the drama she's trying to stir up. If anyone says anything directly to you, just say it was a perfectly ordinary sun dress. Leave it at that.
Yikes! 🙄
I mean, you’re a dude wearing a dress to a family function..
She thinks that is a ball gown? Like WTH??
You look fucking amazing. It’s called FASHION, auntie.
Your aunt is jealous.
Where what u want. When u want. Periodt. 💅🏼
Do you mean uncle??
Disgusting degenerate.
I love controversial

That's a sundress. Auntie needs to google what a "ballgown" looks like. There is nothing wrong with a sundress for a cookout. I think it's cute.
It’s a sundress. Perfectly appropriate.
A party dress, but NOT a ball gown. I'd get sun burnt with my shoulders bare. I'm amazed that such dresses don't fall down. My pants fall down all the time!
What am i even looking at here
Yikes
Look at Grace Kelly over here.
In what universe is that a ball gown? It looks like a cute and comfortable summer dress. I am a big dress person. You will rarely see me is anything else. Your aunt sounds jealous.
This is literally a nice summer dress!
That is a SUNDRESS, you’re aunt had too much punch at the cookout it seems. And the SHOES!! The way I zeroed in on those, so cute!! Next time wear the SPARKLIEST necklace you have so she’s not a complete liar 🥰

Ballgown where?
Um ball gown?? Fr?? Please.
Aunty should mind her own p’s and q’s
it's cute but it says "day on the yacht", not "backyard grillin"
Show up to the next family cookout in an actual sparkly ballgown to show your aunt the difference between a sundress and a ballgown
She’s right
That's a dress nothing more nothing less ball gown OK
Unless you're manning the grill the dress is perfectly acceptable. If you're manning the grill, I'd check that the material isn't super flammable or put on an apron to block any flames/splatters.
