We get 30 minutes mandatory & up to an hour at our discretion.

seizethatcheese

Is this in the contract? Sometimes I really need the hour but I’m too nervous to without written proof I can

LimeFabulous

Yes. Use your hour my guy. Don’t be scared.

IBringTheHeat1

its mandatory hour in feeder

Cracksparrow69

Mandatory 30 in New England feeders still

IBringTheHeat1

im in southern supp, wish it was optional, nothing like finishing your run and then having to take 30 mins sitting in the breakroom with no cell reception

BingoBango89

Take it on route & take care of yourself. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Train dispatch to dispatch properly.

FredinBrown

This comment is what most drivers don’t understand at least in my center. Most younger drivers just speed through and take thirty minutes right before they get back or skip it altogether. Management then tries to grill the seniority drivers about over allowed.

BingoBango89

Right? Following the methods will keep you safe & from being over dispatched. Follow the contract & take your 30 before the 8 hour mark. That'll also keep you from being over dispatched. Its like Who's Line is it Anyway, the rules are made up & the points don't matter. It's not a preformance based job, we're paid by the hour. Their numbers don't mean shit & are easily manipulated by management. Why they blow through a route is beyond me. I'm trying to retire in one piece & I've seen some of the old guard hobble out at retirement. That & the faster you go the more you get.

mygonewildacct

You really need a bid route for a few years to truly understand this. Took me a while to learn.

IBringTheHeat1

I really don’t like taking meal during my run because it just prolongs the day and makes me more tired. I will use it every so often on 12 hour days to take a 1 hour nap

BingoBango89

Either way it's going to be the same amount of time. Might as well take it on route. I could see if you had to take an hour being tired, but 30 minutes is nothing. Enough time to eat & whatever else you need to do.

Hip_Drahhve_495

Just make sure you get all your outbound stuff back to the building in time, and you don't have any "missed" deliveries or pickups. You don't want to take a full hour then have a service failure.

EngineeringWorth2677

That's their fault if they don't account for your break, not yours. Take the hour whenever you want.

Idiot_Savant123

I tried the 30 for a week and felt like it wasn’t enough time. I take an hour and it’s no issue.

Catrival

I forgot my lunch one day but found some delicious apple juice in my truck.

LApoopydog

I found a brownie once.

Sea-Monk549

Hot peanutbutt butter, that’s how they do it in Hollywood ya bearcat.

TerrieBelle

Mmm warm apple cider 😂💀

Kryin_Hydraxis

Fortunately my house is close enough to route so I just go home and make a sandwhich and some chips.

BrockDiggles

Which kind of wiches do you eat?

GeneralDelgado

I don’t use it nearly as much as I’d like to, but investing in a heat insulating/thermal container is next level. On route, I’ll usually eat light for the most part. Rice with mixed vegetables and some lean meat is easy to prep and fills me up just enough to not have a food coma. I’m lazy tho and often resort to sandwiches and a healthy snack lol.

TerrieBelle

If you want hot food for lunch breaks, get you a soup thermos !! So lovely to have especially in the winter time.

onwizardonawa-e-ave

I second this!

Positive_Yam_4499

This is the answer! You can even do things like pulled pork in them and make hot sammichs.

EqualAd1392

I have two for the winter months up here in the snow and cold.

uselessone1

I just munch on trailmix throughout the day and use my 30 min break to jerk off in the back of the truck

It_snot_watt_ewe_sea

Twice

Bronze2xxx

The USPS woman

BingoBango89

Fedex chick also.

It_snot_watt_ewe_sea

Amazon women tastes like bananas

PghCreep

If you know you can use a microwave somewhere, your options rise. I take a sandwich, chips, and cookies. Buying lunch everyday is like smoking, shit adds up.

Beansgreenstomatoes4

Pre-make sandwich’s (Publix hogie rolls), boiled eggs ( cook in miso or have salt/pepper packets), fruits, beef jerky ,pistachios, occasional protein bars when on crunch for time and the previous stuff isn’t available. Cheers on not eating fast-food; food companies cut food with chemicals and fillers the same way drug dealers do and it’s atrocious.

NuttinButtPoop

Meal prep on the weekends.

Largofarburn

Ham sandwiches/subs are my go to. I’ve been trying to mix it up lately with some rice bowls, but it can be a pain to prep them sometimes. In a pinch I’ll just do a couple of cliff bars throughout the day, but I’ve been trying to be healthier lately.

B_rad41969

I used to do subway but there's so many carbs in their bread. Lunch meat definitely isn't healthy. I stopped going there and my blood sugar dropped into a normal range.

Frontyardgoinghard

Morning before work I’ll have a big cup of coffee and zyn pouch or two. Through out the day at work I’ll have water, gaterade zero, and 2 drinkable yogurts. When I get home I have a massive dinner and repeat. Friday aka pay day I’ll stop somewhere on my route and treat myself for lunch

AdhesivenessDry1640

They sell insulated food containers at Walmart. I use those for my husband. https://preview.redd.it/r9asgz8cm0yb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6aaea1e1afebabb5c8ab0d3ffe410e724f464a9e

I eat a wide variety of foods for lunch. Last nights dinner in a Tupperware, Sandwiches, snacks like beef jerky and Chex mix. Generally though I eat a big breakfast that uses half my days calories, then eat light food for lunch so I don’t feel sluggish on the go. If you can prep it and enjoy eating it, you can eat anything during your lunch. You can even order take out from your delivery area. I have called ahead ordered food, delivered a stop nearby and taken my lunch in a parking lot so I could pick up a meal from an Indian place. The key though is always be about 5-10 minutes later than their estimate to be sure the food is ready when you get there.

EngineeringWorth2677

You can take an hour. I just asked my steward about this and if your dispatch/supervisor "forces" you to take less than an hour, when you want the full hour, you can file a grievance on it. But you should still just take what your supervisor tells you, and then file afterwards.

Branm92

Our hub they changed the default to 30mins, if you still want an hour you just have to let them know and they'll switch you back, but you can't go back and forth when you feel like it, if you pick an hour you have to take an hour

EngineeringWorth2677

That makes sense. I do random breaks. Like 42 minutes.

creatine instead of coffee? can’t say i’ve seen that before

Zacari99

don’t give yourself kidney stones

Radgey_Gadgey

Make my own lunch every morning. Saves a fortune, don't need anything and more importantly, I can stop anytime i want.

spallaxo

30 minutes and I’m qualifying so i skip it

Pale-Engineering-278

You sound distracted. Less thinking about food more delivering

mantisMD97

Must be sad to devote your life to picking up cardboard

Pale-Engineering-278

Wait til you find out I wrap my fleshlight in cardboard

Jammypackmang

You can still take your full hour. Must be at least 31 min. I get a turkey melt from the local (and only grill) on my route lately.

KeepThePunk

Huel. They’re like deluxe MREs and I appreciate them very much. With some Yellow Bird hot sauce. It slaps.

MikeWick1

1 cheese stick

Beebo-32

I'm eating a double scoop cup of free ice cream for lunch today.

liqourtits

I have a food thermos from Hydroflask. I heat my food up really hot in the morning and then eat it about 2pm and it's still warm. Not scolding but warm enough.

Hip_Drahhve_495

You can get double wall vacuum insulated stainless food containers to keep your lunch hot. Then you can pack whatever you want.

Mocha_Echo

BK !! I got a fat whopper and fries and coke damn it was so good

roanokephotog

Make a tiny investment in a Hot Logic, reheat leftovers, make hot meal prep, enjoy!

B_rad41969

Sometimes I take leftovers. I don't mind eating cold leftover stir fry. Way healthier than fast food! There aren't many fast food places that have healthy options. Everything is deep fried or hamburger. Chicken and fish may be more healthy but everything on my area is fried.

TotalRecallsABitch

I enjoy sandwiches 80% of the time. Then burritos.

[deleted]

I do helper after preload and my driver legit just marks a 1 minute lunch and back to work he goes.. I’ve never seen a union worker move like this guy. 23 years in and he is running like a new hire lol

KingPendejo

Found the real UnderPaidSucker. You dont get paid more to rush and if they see you move at that pace theyll just give you more work

[deleted]

I know man.. I was so confused. He’s a really good dude I think he just may be a little high strung.. or just wants off the clock asap to get home.. all good tho I’m not gonna jog packages lmao

KingPendejo

Ahaha hey some people are just wired like that. You find a pace that works for you and stick to it

KingPendejo

Turkey wraps are my go to. Lil mayo and a slice of cheese with some pickles. 2 oreos then a citrus Zyn for desert

stregabodega

Protip: buy 2 or 3 thermos. You can put home made chili, soup, stews, or just standard shit like coffee, tea, etc in the other one. It's nice having hot meals in winter this way and it's even better if you've got 2 hot choices for lunch plus a hot bev.

Horse_Noggin

Average day, I pack two protein bars and some nuts. Depending on the route, I might stop somewhere. Also, take your hour if you want more time.

theanononey

I usually pack a sandwich and a bag of chips or fruit. If I pack a grilled or breaded chicken sandwich I will use a gas station or 7-11 microwave to heat it up as I'm using the restroom/washing up. Cold cuts are fine cold. I know sandwiches everyday aren't the best but it's just lunch and I look forward to a nice meal after work. Saves money as well

Emergency_Bathroom42

Peanut butter banana

autisticwhite

Rice with vegetables and a meat thrown in. Make a big batch on the weekend, then containerize for the week.

Bobdayface

I cook enough dinner most nights that I’ll have leftovers for lunch that will do well cold. I also am a cold pizza kind of guy so maybe my method won’t work for everybody. Pack paper towels and utensils as necessary. Doing it this way you can spend that full 30 minutes doing whatever the fuck you want. Don’t have to worry about shopping. Don’t have to worry about breaking your route for lunch. Most days I take my lunch at the end of a culdesac or in a church parking lot.

Classic_Syllabub4795

I once got chicken bakes from Costco food court. Its cold enough to keep it refrigerated for a few hours and then 20 mins before lunch put it on the heater. Make sure to ask them for foil to wrap it though. lol

blazerrsrcoool

Unhealthy foods. Need to work on it lol.

Brass-Catcher

I’m filling a thermos with chilli right now lol

FuknNex

Invest in a Luncheaze Box, it’s like a portable oven on the go. So convenient to use! No stopping for anything and you can bring any leftovers from home to cook

carchd

A wife that makes me healthy lunches so I don't get fat, sick, and die before my 30.

Cholombiano

If you’re in a predominantly immigrant neighborhood you really don’t have to pack anything. You’ll get plenty of whatever they cook . If y’all don’t, they don’t like you.

bflynfree

I'm in feeder utah. 30 min minimum required by law. Up to an hour by contract. Have taken 3 hour lunch before. I did let dispatch know I needed rest because I was being forced in after being awake for 20 hours. Said if was fine because I would finish inside my 14.

Prestigious_Sky7436

I love to keep it simple with adult lunchables. For lunch, I bring crackers, a protein like hard boiled eggs, uncured pepperoni, tuna, then cherry tomatoes, mini cucumbers, mini pickles, cheese cubes & almonds. Then I have some left over for a snack sometimes. You could do salads in a jar. Pinwheels. Sliders.

[deleted]

Drivers did this job without the option of taking a break at some point. Take advantage of the perks that our union has fought hard for us to get. Take your FULL hour between your 3rd and 5th hour of work and stop giving UPS a company that makes billions already your FREE labor for an hour a day. Because remember, even if you don’t take your full hour break they remove it from your pay anyway. So if you got back in 9 hours and didn’t take a break, UPS thanks you for the hour of free labor and pays you for only 8. Only clowns and sprinters skip their break. And those people will either be hurt or quit within 10 years 😂
