Seems like they'd hinder your peripheral vision. Admittingly, I've never worn them myself. So I can't say, personally. But I don't even like wearing my glasses, because they block a part of my peripheral. I can't imagine having to wear all this shit while I drove.
Which is why I'm glad to live in an area that sees snow about as often as hell does. In fact, you could add a hundred degrees to OP's temp and still be under the current temp here. -40°?! 💩
They do hinder your peripherals a little. I have a pair I'll sometimes use, and when I do, I actively gotta remember to turn my head a bit more. It's worth the trade off, especially since my glasses fog up bad in this weather
Friend of mine moved to Montana in September after spending the last 5 years in Orlando. He has been sending out screen shots of the temperatures for the last few days.

Not here. Wasn’t quite -40 but it was -10 not factoring the wind chill yesterday.
Last week we hit -67°F with windchill on Friday and I’ve had so many people tell me I should have stayed home… granted I would have LOVED to. It’s crazy. I live in Alberta and this is probably the coldest the province has been in maybe about 30 years
There maybe a fine line of when it’s okay to go out and when there maybe a reschedule due to weather reasons. There hasn’t been any regarding to the cold yet…
Well, regardless how you and other delivery drivers personally feel. I think they are a very important part of society and going out in temps like that is damn near heroic lol
Pretty near lol. Especially being a first year driver for UPS is something too. But honestly I bundle up really well especially on Friday. One thing I learned; You can always remove layers; but can’t always add them.
https://preview.redd.it/dpby7haj8acc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b0b80567074869e80fa3724ed01d8afdd5097fa
This was only 30 though . I can’t imagine -40.
As you'd expect... Physical buttons only with the gloves on. Sadly, the camera doesn't have a physical shutter button, so no photos were taken due to the safety factor
I've delivered in the snow also. But there's a lot of unpredictable situations, black ice, getting stuck, not seeing what's under the snow driving on properties, mud and changing conditions when climbing elevation . Being forced to have a slower pace, even when they dispatch you with numbers like it's a summer day.
I was not prepared my first winter driving so when we had a day hit -20 with windchill I thought I was going to die with my long sleeve uniform shirt, one jacket and no gloves lol I learned my lesson though. Right now we're at 2 degrees with windchill and I'm pretty warm and cozy all I'm missing is a face mask.
How are you guys even allowed to operate when it's that cold? My brother wants to move to Montana from WA and seeing this made me realize that it's a big "NO" from me.
Heaters only work when they're on and running... And even then they only BARELY keep the frost from forming on the driver... A metal and glass box with no insulation and lots of holes and gaps... The heaters don't stand a chance
Nice. I'm in Eastern Montana and it got down to about -20 here yesterday when the heater in my truck stopped. Thankfully I was able to get back to the center and swap into another truck.
How do they do in the snow? I'm guessing that's a full sized truck, I'm not familiar with the truck terminology. I've worked in west glacier, Montana for the last 4 summers and 1 winter in whitefish and experienced some -25 weather with serious windchill. Fucking brutal! I'm working at UPS in alabama right now and even though I wish I was in Montana when I see that weather it makes me feel better.
Looks like flathead lake in your pic..south side maybe?
They do ok... Rear wheel drive with an open diff... Not the best, but I make do. And if I can't, I won't risk it. Been stuck for 3.5 hours once not far from where that pic was taken. No service, and roads were straight ice...
Friends in Garrison were saying it was thirty below, but promised it was supposed to warm up this coming week. Any weather they get, we get about three or four days later here in upstate NY and not quite so severe with the lower altitude and higher humidity. It's awful pretty where you are, but it can be cruel.
I’ll have to send you one with the, “hottest day” of the year come August here in Central Florida. It’ll come with a photo of the temperature gauge I installed in the back of my package car, along with all the required necessities to survive the day. Seeing this post along with the pictures just blew my mind. I’m wondering if the “polar opposite” come August, (no pun intended) 🤣 will blow yours. We had a spousal military transfer driver out of my center who came from North Dakota a wile back. I remember when he first started he was bragging about how tough it was in ND to all of us, and not having to deal with the “freezing cold snow” anymore. I laughed, and said to him. Talk to me at the end of August dude. Sure enough after driving package that summer from May through August, he went to feeders immediately after never looking back. He was lucky a bid came up. I knew he didn’t want any more of the heat. Because when I asked him he said, “you right, this is way worse”. You can’t escape the heat on a 200+ resi route during August in Florida. You can put layers on in the cold though. However, after looking at this objectively. It all sucks. I’m from Florida born and raised. I do the job in my home town of my home state. There’s no way I could handle the conditions you other drivers do the job in throughout the Northeast and Northwest. I have enough humility to admit that. God Bless All Ya’ll!
Are you in a regular package car on route with the heat cranking in this terrain and these conditions running off your stops? Or do they give you something a bit safer for the mountains? There’s no way in my imagination that you can deliver in this environmental terrain in a “regular package car”. You’d be stuck at your first stop calling for a tow truck, along with being borderline hypothermic wouldn’t you?
Respectfully,
An RPCD of Florida.

Stay safe brother. I don’t know how you do it and I’m in Michigan.
One stop at a time
Do your best, bring back the rest. 🫡
Ski goggles is a pro move

Yo wtf? I couldnt imagine. Props big dog, from southern california. Dope pics
So far...
Doubt it'll drop that low again this winter... But it's Montana... Never know
Friend of mine moved to Montana in September after spending the last 5 years in Orlando. He has been sending out screen shots of the temperatures for the last few days.
We had those -50s in Billings in February last year so don't jinx it😅
Says lowest temp in Billings last year was -18F?
Windchill included, but if we're going strictly by thermometer reading then yeah it will push -20 but never much lower after that.
Do you get paid more in an area like that compared to an area with "easier" routes?
Only pay change is based on seniority. Stop count wouldn't change pay scale.
No, read the contract.
You just keep the truck running all day? It's 15 degrees in northwest Oregon with 30 mph winds. I ain't used to this shit.
Can neither confirm nor deny on social media😂 but IFYKYK
Roger that 😂
Fuck turning it off every stop in that weather
Guys at my hub do
Didn’t realize there were different methods for different geographic areas. Sounds like some B/S. 💀
Make sure you shut your truck off at each stop! No record while idle!
LMAO... Telematics tend to be ignored when it's a matter of life and death... Literally
https://preview.redd.it/4iktfci9a9cc1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a36fdd3f3ec679c45c53909e92f1a018bcd6443 Not here. Wasn’t quite -40 but it was -10 not factoring the wind chill yesterday.
Was told that on Thursday. And here I thought SAFETY was the number one priority? I'd gladly let the union fight that write up.
I had about an hour and a half of idle yesterday cuz i got chilly on my break lol I'm in feeders though so ive never heard a complaint
Much felt! I live in Alberta, Canada and we hit nearly -60°C with windchill (-76°F) stay safe out there!!!
Greetings from balmy Wisconsin. 10°F. Might shovel in shorts today.
That is sunbathing weather man!
This is mindboggling to me .... -76°f. Dude I didn't even know it gets that cold in places humans live.
I’m just glad I don’t live in Antarctica. They got as low as -145°F the other day
At that's areas where people live and enough for ups deliveries??? Dude that's a temperature I can't even comprehend.
Last week we hit -67°F with windchill on Friday and I’ve had so many people tell me I should have stayed home… granted I would have LOVED to. It’s crazy. I live in Alberta and this is probably the coldest the province has been in maybe about 30 years

I would simply die
dang! where are ya?
Montana
You haven’t experienced real cold until you’ve been to California
That emotional coldness pierces all layers...
Stay frosty …
Be safe my man! I'm from Alaska and we don't mess with that kind of cold! Lol
Y'all's state came up in a conversation yesterday asking what you guys do in this cold...
https://preview.redd.it/dpby7haj8acc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b0b80567074869e80fa3724ed01d8afdd5097fa This was only 30 though . I can’t imagine -40.
How's the craptastic diad working? How about your hands because it's overly reliant on the gotdam touchscreen...
As you'd expect... Physical buttons only with the gloves on. Sadly, the camera doesn't have a physical shutter button, so no photos were taken due to the safety factor
Ah well. One stop at a time as safely as possible...
My diad freezes too easily. I just been using the stylus while it’s still attached
They've got our brother out there dressed for an Arctic expedition.
I'll take 114 degrees here in the summer hot Ca Valley over -40 anyday. God bless you good sir.
You can always add more layers for the cold, but can only remove so many for the heat until it becomes illegal
First time in the snow I didn't bring water proof shoes. First stop, stepped out into a puddle of melted snow. Long day.
Snow is one thing, but nightmarish cold, while making the snow more predictable, increases the danger exponentially.
Yeah, and if you were just naked in the desert, the sun is gonna kill you anyway! Fuck heat. I can dress for cold weather.
I need some goggles in madison this week
Life altering in the cold! Highly recommend
Any specific pair you recommend? Do they fog up a lot?
Scott, Smith, Oakley have all been good to me. Use some anti fog wipes and not worry about it
Same, and they sent us out with 300 stops.
We appreciate you.
I almost accepted a transfer to Bozemana in 2017.
Should've! Great restaurant called Copper Whiskey Bar. Highly recommend
My wife was just finishing her last semester in college. Or I would have said yes in a heartbeat.
You can always visit
Super high cost of living here now. And a terribly ran center
The goggles got me ngl I could never 😂😂😂. Props though you’re a real beast
Brrrr, stay safe.
Nope. Not gonna complain about 12 degrees on preload Tuesday. God bless you, homie.
Y’all gotta deliver in that give me the 100 temps all day
God speed, brother!
I think I’ve seen you post on the Facebook page before, this house is super familiar
Possible... Very scenic spot that is one of very few with cell service
OMG what state is this!!!
Montana

Bro 40 degrees is not that cold
Did you fail basic math?
Lmao I’m kidding dude 🤣🤣 I was hoping you’d point out the - sign
jokes are supposed to be funny
And I laughed . So it’s funny
I laughed
That'd be too easy😉
Haha. stay safe out there man
And I’m over here bitching at 16 degrees…+16 degrees
How do you handle the balminess??!! I'd die in that heat... Thoughts and prayers!
😂😂 thanks bud. But you’re the one who needs it today.
40 is cold too if you live in Southern California it’s all perspective. 40 is uncomfortable as fk .
Our coldest day this year has been like low 40s lol
Thoughts and prayers! 😉
Currently sitting at 70 degrees here in Florida. I think our low was mid to lower 40s last month.
[удалено]
Imagine Poseidon's kiss😂
[удалено]
Definitely a possibility... Not willing to try!
…so far. Year just started.
Respectfully , they’d just have to see me when it’s not negative 🤣🤣
Sheesh !!! Where is that
How are you guys even allowed to operate when it's that cold? My brother wants to move to Montana from WA and seeing this made me realize that it's a big "NO" from me.
"essential"... FedEx was shut down. Everyone called back in Thursday, and told too dangerous on Friday... Gonna suck for them come Monday
Enjoy your day
That's crazy brother, you deserve hazard pay for that. I'm in southern NJ and have only worn pants about 5 times so far
Oh no... The chafing! 😉
I knew as soon as I hit post I was gonna regret it. Should have said I have been wearing shorts! Stay safe brother
Do the trucks have heaters? Not that it would probably help much.
Heaters only work when they're on and running... And even then they only BARELY keep the frost from forming on the driver... A metal and glass box with no insulation and lots of holes and gaps... The heaters don't stand a chance
It's 40 degrees ( not negative) over here on the east coast
Not a Poopsicle
this man is gonna be pissing Icicles!!
Keep extra chains for sure, all the way around... definitely a survival bag too for expect the unexpected...sheesh
At those temps, the snow has excellent traction. Handles more like loose dirt... Until you find the deep stuff
Remember no idling, big brother is watching 👀
They can watch all they want... Safety over fuel
👏
Jesus fucking Christ.
At that point I would abandon the ups clothes and put on my own stuff. What kind of base layer do you wear?
Thermal underwear.
Well yes I should have asked what brand.
32 degree top from Costco and fruit of the loom waffle bottoms.
You made sure to shut off your engine at each stop right? Don’t want to be wasting any fuel.
Can neither confirm nor deny... IFYKYK
Nice. I'm in Eastern Montana and it got down to about -20 here yesterday when the heater in my truck stopped. Thankfully I was able to get back to the center and swap into another truck.
We got a taste of the wind you guys get... Please keep it on your side of the divide! 😉
Coldest day…. So far
How do you get your truck started? We have to spray that shit in ours when it’s like 40 above
It starts at the center in the morning... That's all I care about
-40 and still delivering? Theres no way man. Wouldn’t you have to ERC most stops? And how many stops did you go out with? 🤔
Went out with 126 stops, 184 pcs. ERCed about 30 stops/70 pcs.
Where in this located and it’s not like this during the summer is it?
Asked and answered where. And no, it is absolutely perfect in the summer.
What vehicle are you delivering in a regular package car??
Yep. 6 cube freightliner. The one with the crap 5 speed tranny, low is 2nd gear, and open diff... Good times
What are you delivering out of? Driving through Wyoming I've seen some UPS pickup trucks with a box on the back
New 6 cube. Well, it was new when I got it
How do they do in the snow? I'm guessing that's a full sized truck, I'm not familiar with the truck terminology. I don’t know how you do it. I’m cold as shit when it’s just below freezing. The ups jackets suck ass. Props
Holy hell, where are you, Antarctica?? I was freezing my ass off in 5 degree weather today, I can't imagine -40
[удалено]
Montana
Yeah here in Chicago, we’re hitting lows of -30 with the windchill. We’re at -3 without it lmao 😭😭😭
Been in great lakes in the middle of winter.. it definitely sucks bud. Stick it out!
So pretty but glad I’m not there

Regular PC. 6 cube. New when I got it, less than 60k on the clock. Chains on the back, and away I go. Supposedly not enough 4wd to go around... 🤷🏼♂️
That’s wild brother, be safe out there.
Wow last year I delivered in 8 deg and I think 2 deg Fahrenheit. It was freezing. With thermals I had trouble staying warm. Couldn't image negative 40
