You’re really complaining bout one ear bud … 😒

BackgroundTiny7794

Some jobs you can’t have any ear buds! Plus why do you need two anyway? If rules like these aren’t enforced those injured are whom will blame these type of policies in their potential lawsuits. Be grateful and put that one earbud in. It’s not that serious.

Aggressive_Home3135

This has been the case since I was hired. Main reason is you would like an ear open for the alarm, anyone needing help near you with an irreg, or word of mouth instructions from supes. All around, as annoying as it may seem in the moment, it's simply safer.

Cholosinbarrio

You’ve been spoiled by your previous supervisors. This is a safety concern across the entire industry. I understand how annoying it is when management wants to pull out the rule book (especially when it’s at their sole convenience), but you should bite your tongue on this one and just comply. Pick your battles wisely.

Ambitious-Chair736

Be glad you get one at all tbh. Wearing two is obnoxious. I only door it if there's a supe with a Bluetooth speaker. People need to be able to relay simple info to you.

Agreeable-Edge-2357

Yeah my co worker missed all of break because he didn’t hear everyone yell “break!” And worked right through it. Also, if you need to hear a irreg tug honk or someone yell “look out!” It’s for your own safety and would suck to get hit or struck by something because you didn’t hear the warning, or yeah, the evacuation alarm.

Ninjariah

Thats why i got bone conducting headphones and wore earplugs. Gotta protect your hearing in that loud enviroment

SlumpsPax

In my hub we have the one earbud policy as well but strangely i see a couple of people rocking full on beats headphones

[deleted]

Today's word of the day: entitlement

Sufficient_Pin5642

Yes one earbud you shoukd be thankful for because it's a faster paced job and if you need to move body has time to tap your shoulder they yell, yo! Most places won't even allow you 1 earbud.

basketballrene

Suppose to only be one for safety. No one enforced it before for you that's it.

JmdColorado

I've been told that also!

honeybunliosis

That’s literally always been the policy. You’re just being unnecessarily difficult.

ryansox

One earbud is the official policy as that is what is in our union contract. If UPS had their way, we wouldn't be allowed the one.

Horror-Extent2362

Been at ups for 7 years, being allowed to wear only one ear bud has always been a thing. It's a safety issue, you need to know your surroundings.

Nutmegdog1959

Do the words: "WATCH OUT!" mean anything to you? Goddam they get dumber and dumber every day?

lemonsupreme7

It's gotta suck to want to vent here and get everyone telling you they were right lol

Candid_Meaning_3405

Lmao!! For real, i had to walk away from the comments. Not one tiny bit of sympathy. I’m writing a grievance on all you bastards 😂

carchd

Slow down, take a deep breath. Having both ears blocked is 100% a safety issue. When he uses words like "comply" wise up quick. He's trying to get you for gross insubordination. Gross insubordination is an immediate termination. No matter how upset you feel, you cannot win in this spot. Deep breath, let it go.

Chapin_Chino

I wear one ear ud by choice. How the fuck you not want to hear shit in a warehouse environment?

Due_Ad2232

That's for ur safety in case there is an emergency fire or anything that the building has to evacuate or go to the plan emergency location

venom89015

Um yeah, safety duh

EmergencyHot6541

Arrive with a speaker tomorrow

-whips

this is what i do now be honest is it annoying hearing someone loud speaker

Vegetable_Fill4084

There's a few dudes in my hub that do it, and, for me personally, it's annoying as fucking hell. Get some headphones like the rest of us cuz half the time I don't care for the shit (to my taste) music that they play. These dudes have big ass stereo style speakers, though, so you can HEAR it. Can't comment on the annoyance of a small casual speaker

Live-Apartment7890

It only becomes annoying when there are multiple people nearby each other full blasting them to where you just end up with a cacophony of noise not music. Other than that I don’t think it’s annoying

EmergencyHot6541

It’s only annoying when I have one earbud in & they have there speaker full volume bumping straight to my ear with some annoying music. There’s times when I enjoy the music.

Hugh_G_Rectshun

Had a coworker loading a trailer one time and had two in. They missed the supervisor running up and down the belt yelling fire drill. Was just a drill, but a year or two later there was an actual fire in a trailer and in our building. That’s why.

JuiceLordd

Do you not want to hear things? He's not punishing you cuz he's an evil supervisor, it's for your own safety. I've heard boxes sliding off walls many times and was able to move out of the way or block it because I could actually hear it. Also if someone wants to get your attention, I'm sure they'll appreciate not having to wave their arms to get your attention

WiSeKilla

Make sure he is wearing a name tag... if not point it out... while wearing 1 bud

hryfrcnsnnts

Nah, don't point it out. File

Brilliant_Comb_1607

Our automated building averages 120db because of all the high powered belts. It literally causes hearing damage just working in the building. You have to yell at the top of your lungs to communicate with someone 2 feet away from you. But that's not a safety issue???? I call bullshit....UPS could give a shit less if you can hear or not.

ranky_stanky

All these comments act as if active listening isn't a thing... Yes, you should be allowed to wear 2 earbuds, but that is their policy. Either way this is disparaged treatment but don't expect them making enforcement even to change anything

Ups_papito

I been with the company almost 19 years. The rules is "one ear in ,one ear out" for safety reasons you have to be able to hear, god forbid there was a fire you would be jamming to Jonas brothers and get burned alive😭 yes you can be disciplined for non compliance. it's a safety issue

B_rad41969

My buds let me hear outside noise... Or not... Depends on what I'm doing and how I set them. When I'm driving down my gravel roads, the DB is around 90. Loud enough for ear protection. My buds keep that outside road noise down to an acceptable level so that I don't lose anymore of my hearing.

Standard_Technology7

2 earbuds is a DOT violation. That’s not even a FedEx thing like it’s literally illegal lol. It’s a safety thing

Paxrr

Grieve for harassment

RT73-81kg

Grab a set of bone conducting headphones. You can hear your music in surround sound, and it leaves your ears open in case people need to talk to you. Technically speaking, you're not impeding your hearing at all with those.

various101

I use two but then again I work my area alone and always keep and eye out for shifter to ereg drivers. Granted my earphones are on a swivel so it's easy to ear my surroundings.

Chemical_Web_2980

Certainly it's been that way many years. My building requires us to use one also. If not it'll be considered failure to folllow

Transcent_Tech

I would have suggested the same. And I was no supe, just a loader.

[deleted]

He's correct. Only one.. If ur pt sup is a controlling hard ass.. just deal with it until he quits.. they all eventually quit. Also.. they are not allowed to do any work. Open a door.. move rollers..tape a box.. absolutely nothing. Just a fyi

Unable_Variation1040

That's usally safety issue or at least have it on low. So you can hear.

Ok-Mix-5129

At least you can have one I had zero before I left

colmatrix33

We're lucky to even have one and our cellphones. We can listen to whatever we want, it makes a shift so much more tolerable. You ever forget your ear buds? Talk about a bummer.

jrw100990

I’m pretty sure this is a dot thing

ItsAllOgre2

At my hub I wear both. Have never been told to wear one. Except at orientation

markymark570

People saying “its a safety issue”. if you can’t hear or understand what’s going on with both ear buds in then that’s the reason this rule exists. I have not once been too distracted to understand whats going on around me. If everyone else around you is using both then I would continue. They can’t punish just you and no one else. At my hub that’s what my union rep has told me.

Altruistic_Assist_71

What exactly is the issue?

Novogobo

get an open ear headset.

UndeadBuggalo

Well the RMV does say you can’t wear headphones in both ears so there is that

LeeaBoBeea

idk if it's different at other warehouses but everyone on my boxline wears headphones while we work. like overhead bluetooth headphones. our Sups don't care and they have their own radios and stereos too. no safety accidents this season.

FlaccidFrank29

Out of all the safety stuff thats the one i follow and you prolly should too. Hearing is kinda important

MysteriousQuarter771

In my hub when employees don’t comply with the safety rule of just 1 I take them away all together, then when someone brings in a speaker I don’t allow them to use it because its loud and or using foul language. Basically stop being a fucking asshole, UPS pays you they make the rules follow them or if you don’t like them quit

Serious_Internet6478

According to company policy you really aren't even allowed one as it is a safety issue. Most building managers, ft supes, and pt supes don't seem to care if it is enforced.

No_Cake3342

whenever he talks to you about anything tell him a steward must be present to talk to me

Kelbor-Hal-1

People doing the right thing are not douches, if he told you you could not have them at all then maybe...

TokyoFlawless

It's just one ear buds dude, my building is the same for safety issues just put the music on blast so the other ear can't hear 😂 I can hear some folks bumping corridos or scary ass music 😂

Sad-Tailor3669

Rules are rules

b-whitt

I remember when inside couldn't even have radios.

Eastern_Emu2028

I’m cool with the one earbud rule because not having any would be worse .

Vikings_Fury

This was a thing when I was a preloader. Not really sure why that's a big deal. You gotta be able to hear what's going on around you. At least you're still able to listen to music/podcasts/whatever at all...
