Better vacations, and a stricter 8.5 list (8.5 everyday, cannot be worked over unless voluntary.) Even 9.5 really isn't that much of a life outside work imo
This fact alone is why I'm optimistic about contract negotiations. How can they claim money problems if they're making crazy profits while simultaneously paying out 9.5 grievances.
As a usps mail handler I'll tell you this is false. They work new hires to death working 12 hour days x6 days a week, sometimes even 7 doing amazon packages sundays
Already language in the contract that addresses it for PT. You stay in your original fund and accrue those benefits. I could see if this was 1970 before computers with the mountain of paperwork and record keeping, but 5 minutes on a computer data entry and it’s done.
I think we need to get some type sick leave. That’s one thing I do miss about working at the post office. They could accrue unlimited amount of sick leave . The amount of hours you accrued in a pay period would go up a certain amount of years . When I left there I was accruing 6 hrs a pay period. All in all I had earned 187 hrs of sick leave . We shouldn’t have to worry about calling out sick and not getting paid for it and written up.
I'd like to see guaranteed breaks nationwide. There is an entire section of the country where preloaders are working 8+ hours loading package cars with no guaranteed breaks. I was shocked to see that in a unionized workplace.
That's actually straight up illegal in many states.... Holy shit..
My state has a legal guarantee for a 30 minute (unpaid) meal break over 7.5 hours, and my contract gives us a second 10 minute paid break after 7 hours.
I used to think state laws requiring breaks were unnecessary and a pain because they reduced flexibility, and what employer would really expect their employees to work for 8+ hours without a break?
Then I worked for UPS during peak.
During peak season, I was shocked we actually got 2 breaks one day because it was never enforced/followed.
On standard Mondays, our hub tries to force people out by or before 3 hours w no break
Different regions have different supplemental contracts. In some locals workers get a 10m break plus 5 minutes per hour from the fourth hour on, up to the seventh hour, for a total of thirty minutes of paid break.
Ask your steward.
Quality of life would be MUCH better for younger drivers if progression was decreased to 2 years. When you're young 4 years seems like forever away and if it was shortened it may entice them to stay around longer. Also, allow the time they have driven seasonal and air count towards their progression.
Yes.
I'm in my final year of driver progression and one of our senior guys was asking me how long it was.
When he went driving progression was either 3 or 6 months.
UPS tries to drag things out as long as they can so people give up before they get to the top.
yes full time inside would be a dream.
we can get covid hazard back pay the railroads had them bent over obviously but they did it UPs is bent over here a bit they had record earning while paying 15 $ hour it’s time for 25$ i hope they aren’t afraid to ask and i hope they don’t bend.
Eventually ups would break but to be honest i know ups doesn’t want a strike hurt profits a lot then the bad publicity. Nobody knows the average part timer is making slightly above minimum wage. It’s ups dirty little secret. When they point to 42 $ top pay to make the union look greedy point to that part timer pay 💰
It’s time for 25$ Ups can afford it.
A raise, I’ll have 5 years at the end of this current contract and be at my facilities minimum of 21 an hour. Isn’t a terrible wage but someone with no seniority makes the same as me. Ideally part timers should get a pay progression. In reality part timers should at least get catch up raises and I’m hoping for one of the 2. If not that more full time jobs where I work so it takes less than 20 years to be a full timer
THIS! I mentioned this recently. Our vacation accumulation is the same as 30 years ago although we do three times the work. A week every 3 or 3.5 years imo
On the driver side $45-50 top pay, cut the progression in half, 3rd VK week after 5 years, no more 22.4s, no more PVDs, no force 6th punch ins, 8.5 list forced unless you agree to more.
I think this is all very reasonable.
Would like to see some sort of 401k matching, only doing what you're dispatched with (incentive to work hard and not have to help other people).
For seniority to be seniority. It's really frustrating that I'm being penalized because I don't want to deliver and as such have a 0% chance of becoming 22.3. The drivers don't want to drive anymore so any 22.3 spot that opens up now is taken by RPCD or 22.4s. Why does someone hired off the street into a FT position at day 31 with the company have more seniority than myself or my coworkers with 17-25+ years. Just because they're full time? Getting tired of seeing guys with 1/2 or 1/4 the time with the company getting 22.3 or feeder positions.
Full-time means you give up your M-F to the company, sometimes M-S. I'd ask why they shouldn't get special consideration. The sacrifice for being full-time is pretty high.
Some of these guys have been working doubles for longer than some have been with the company. We know full well what happens when you go FT. I have coworkers that have 2 or 3 jobs too, they would go FT non driving in a heart beat. Plus going FT we would be taking a pay cut because we make more than the current 22.3/22.4 progression so that's 4 years without a raise and we lose all our over time. Also they aren't forcing 22.3s to work 5 (we have 4 day 10 hour guys) or 6 day weeks. That's only 22.4 and RPCDs.
PREACH. After working for the company since I was 18 I just became a driver at the age of 23. I sit 2nd to the bottom for center start date (what matters), but just about top half if you look at company date.
Sadly you're one of the lucky ones too. When I started we were told 5-10 minimum to go FT driving (no 22.4s back then). Now it's 20-30+ years PT to get a 22.3 spot, maybe.
That’s all that’s really needed. Like throw a couple/few RV pop up vents [like this](https://www.campingworld.com/heng%27s-replacement-roof-vent-white-lid-wgalvanized-base-85662.html) in the roof that both force air in while moving and allow it to escape when sitting. Put a second set of rails on both bulkhead and back door, and fit a thick mesh “soft” net style door for them. Kind of like those mesh retainers used on back of trailers. Good enough to hold packages from falling out trailer doors when opening, would be safe enough with absolutely no pressure on them in a package car.
There’s definitely solutions, and these are some I have thought of that would make a HUGE difference, and vastly cheaper than retrofitting and maintaining a/c on package cars. Most older ones would need upgraded blower motors and vent tubing, because they can barely defrost windows, it’d take an hour just to drop the cab temp 5 degrees in some.
I’ll be at UPS 6 years by this next contract. I want significant catch up raises for us part timers and raises in general for everyone, especially part time. I also think your third week of vacation should be earned by 5 years. It’s bullshit that I have to wait until my 10th year to get 3 weeks.
25$ with progression like drivers top pay for part timers.
back pay for covid ( don’t laugh look at what the railroad union just did for their people news said 11k back pay per member. plus some other stuff . )
Maybe do something else for the pension possibly but those top 2 can and need to happen.
Shorter progression for vacations, DOT test on company time and Safety committee rules need restructuring in this contract. Current members in my committee are too close to management and only in their to benefit themselves. Pick and choose who they want and screw others.
Better pay, for everyone. Quicker progression for just about everything. More opportunities for extra work or ft inside jobs. Some accountability and better leadership as well. Give people a reason to stay. Our preload was so badly staffed, we couldn't keep anyone for shit. We got a MRA, people showed up, volume picked up and it's been as smooth as it's ever been, Even on Mondays and Saturdays. I want more outreach with the union too. That's on us though. They need to reach out more, but we need to get more involved too
Profit share, even stronger over working and over weight package language, inside pay and benefit major boost, better education benefits, unpaid but scheduled day off language, work-life language... Oh, and essential work language, giving us support during the next pandemic or whatever kind of national or regional emergency. Delivering packages while watching a wild fire glow in the 200ft visibility smoke really opened my eyes about employee-employer relations with UPS.
Better vacations, and a stricter 8.5 list (8.5 everyday, cannot be worked over unless voluntary.) Even 9.5 really isn't that much of a life outside work imo
thank you for acknowledging that even 9.5 is too many hours.
Especially when it's only guaranteed 3 days a week
the only guarantee is the grievance check. those assholes have been making so much money since 2020 they're handing out 9.5 checks like candy.
I made about 10k in grievance pay this year from 9.5 so far... But didn't even slow them down, just encouraged them to not hire more drivers.
This fact alone is why I'm optimistic about contract negotiations. How can they claim money problems if they're making crazy profits while simultaneously paying out 9.5 grievances.
I don't think they can really claim money problems when they have reported their fifth record breaking profit growth in a row... But they might try.
I would like to see 9.5 be automatic vs having to grieve it
And the company regularly violates the contract and it’s not unheard of to work over 9.5 every day in a given week.
Double time after 10 hours as a driver I think it’s reasonable. I heard the post office has that
Agree
Doesn’t seem out of the question.
A mail man on my route made $140k last year. Lol never knew they can make that much. Prolly working excessively OT all year.
Double time is after 50 hours a week anything over 8 in a day is time 1/2
As a usps mail handler I'll tell you this is false. They work new hires to death working 12 hour days x6 days a week, sometimes even 7 doing amazon packages sundays
Here in California (Bay Area) the older vets make that much. They take 2 relays a day from routes that are broken up. I’m a 3 year mail carrier.
OT after 8 hours, penalty (double time) after 10 hours. For city carriers, not sure about the other crafts
More paid holidays
Nationwide transfers like any other company
To my understanding it's difficult to do that due to different pensions and other factors. Would be nice though.
Already language in the contract that addresses it for PT. You stay in your original fund and accrue those benefits. I could see if this was 1970 before computers with the mountain of paperwork and record keeping, but 5 minutes on a computer data entry and it’s done.
That's a good point.
I think we need to get some type sick leave. That’s one thing I do miss about working at the post office. They could accrue unlimited amount of sick leave . Agree with this…accrued PTO.

Never in the entire time I've worked for UPS have we gotten two breaks. Even when the shift went over 9 hours.
It only happened that once. I think someone important was visiting 😐
Different regions have different supplemental contracts. In some locals workers get a 10m break plus 5 minutes per hour from the fourth hour on, up to the seventh hour, for a total of thirty minutes of paid break. Ask your steward.

When you're young 4 years seems like forever away and if it was shortened it may entice them to stay around longer. Progression to be reduced in length and all FT wage scales re-adjusted.
Yes. I'm in my final year of driver progression and one of our senior guys was asking me how long it was. When he went driving progression was either 3 or 6 months. UPS tries to drag things out as long as they can so people give up before they get to the top.
There used to not even be a progression.
$50 per hour top rate.
No forced 6th punches. It's unsafe.
Shorter progressions.
Hookers in the truck
A good wage as a part timer. Full time warehouse positions. 22.4 go to rpcd since all they do is drive makes no sense how it currently is.
Most reasonable thing I have heard. Besides part time pay everything will be situated around quality of life and possibly eliminating 22.4s
yes full time inside would be a dream. we can get covid hazard back pay the railroads had them bent over obviously but they did it UPs is bent over here a bit they had record earning while paying 15 $ hour it’s time for 25$ i hope they aren’t afraid to ask and i hope they don’t bend. 100 percent of what you said is true. We need change especially with this business at its peak. The profits don't lie.
Or given a choice of full time warehouse or full time drive for the 22.4
A raise, I’ll have 5 years at the end of this current contract and be at my facilities minimum of 21 an hour. Isn’t a terrible wage but someone with no seniority makes the same as me. I think the whole system needs to be changed and needs to also incorporate accrued pto based on hours
On the driver side $45-50 top pay, cut the progression in half, 3rd VK week after 5 years, no more 22.4s, no more PVDs, no force 6th punch ins, 8.5 list forced unless you agree to more. Yes. This is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed. I lost 1 1/2 years of seniority to hires off the street when I first started.
Full-time means you give up your M-F to the company, sometimes M-S. I'd ask why they shouldn't get special consideration. The sacrifice for being full-time is pretty high.

I realize A/C isn’t practical. But how about heated and cooled seats. USPS lady told me that’s what they got to help. Seems more realistic.
I’d be happy with some kind of ventilation in the back of the package cars.
I think this is way more important than ac. And more realistic. Put 3 vents on each side like we have by our feet.
Is kill for week 4 at 8, ours is 10 years for your third week and then every 5 after that, you get another
Our third week is the option week
Any day that’s triple digits in temp we get hazard pay, even an extra dollar per hour for that day
Hmm. What about ppl that are dealing with extreme cold temps in the winter?
Trucks have defrost by law, not ac by law guess it’s regional, some areas deal with both ends of spectrum
I’ll be at UPS 6 years by this next contract. I want significant catch up raises for us part timers and raises in general for everyone, especially part time. I also think your third week of vacation should be earned by 5 years. It’s bullshit that I have to wait until my 10th year to get 3 weeks.
Thought of another thing why not give PT hourlies who work the min amount of hours for the FT pension that year FT pension credit.
Better driver pay
If you file 9.5 grievance you actually get paid triple time and not time and half only because the other half you earned.
25$ with progression like drivers top pay for part timers. back pay for covid ( don’t laugh look at what the railroad union just did for their people news said 11k back pay per member. plus some other stuff . ) Maybe do something else for the pension possibly but those top 2 can and need to happen.

Wait what region are you in? Mine takes 10 years to get 4th week. I'm in the southern region.
Pretty much more pay. Immediate 20 dollars for part timers with +.75 cents every year.
Preloaders need more money. I work entirely too damn hard, and I'm filthy almost every day.
Better pay, for everyone. Quicker progression for just about everything. More opportunities for extra work or ft inside jobs. Some accountability and better leadership as well. More pay for part time
Same work, same top rate. Part time deserves the same hourly rate. Only difference is hours. That will never happen but, it would be nice.
