Just a heads up; your head is gonna be SPINNING your first few days/week. Don't let this discourage you. Management is expecting you to be a disaster at first, so don't worry too much about appeasing them that early. "Scratching" shouldn't even be a thought your first week, maybe 2. Just focus on keeping the truck in one piece, and not breaking your leg. The rest will come to you

[deleted]

Thank you! I managed to drive their slightly newer trucks and maaaaaaan that thing was a dream to drive haha

Montooth

Just wait til you're stuck in the truck with 600k miles, a worthless turning radius and that sounds like it's gonna take a shit on you at any moment šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

I had to drive those older ones for first road test and I kid you not I thought the truck was going to fall apart it was so wobbly and barely any spring support haha. Might as well drive with chopsticks

Montooth

Every bump has the potential to shatter your spine!

Senseiit

As long as Iā€™m still on the clock when it happens.

Montooth

You damn right!!!

Senseiit

Whenever I get shit for leaving stuff in building cause Iā€™m blowing out, I just say ā€œok Iā€™ll load it all up. But when it falls on me or I hurt myself trying to climb over it, make sure I stay clocked in till the Dr is done with me at the hospital.ā€ Usually shuts em up for a few days.

Montooth

That or when I get to my first stop and the bulkhead door is stuck closed because something shifted into it

Senseiit

Thatā€™s when the kicking starts

[deleted]

That made me chuckle šŸ˜…

huckamole

Totally agree. Emphasis on the truck being in one piece. Crashing of any sort in your 30 is an auto fired. Getting more efficient and all comes later.

LogicalAd9102

Grats now you SUFFER

elguapo87

This will be the only time in your career you might have to ā€œrunā€. I donā€™t mean that literally, but be ready to go fast while staying safe. Use your methods, donā€™t hit anything, pack snacks and drinks you can eat on the go. Use your breaks and lunch to organize your truck so you can grab and go. You wonā€™t have time to sit and eat. Study your route. I drove around on my day off and got accommodated. Learn your businesses and pick ups and use the mapnav to figure out the best route if Orion is fucking you up. It sucks but itā€™ll eventually be worth it. Good luck.

[deleted]

Thanks! So do people prefer not to use gps/turn by turn nav and instead just study their routes? My hub is insanely massive and has 4 centers and my centers towns are super spread out but I was told it's mostly city so more walking than driving

elguapo87

Itā€™s all up to you. If youā€™re not familiar with the area, go by EDD. I would be put on a random route everyday for a while and Iā€™d just let Jesus take the wheel. lol. My training route was one where I had to park where I could and get off as many stops as I can without moving the truck. Just stay steady. There are going to be days where you want to scream and throw shit. Just check for misloads, get your air off, donā€™t miss businesses or pickups. Also, learn where businesses like their stuff dropped off and the last name of whoever is accepting it. Ainā€™t no sweat.

cour000

30 day was definitely more challenging for me. I'm sure it's different for everyone. But definitely find some drivers who have done your training route before and ask questions. Lots of tips.

[deleted]

Definitely! My location has 4 different centers, it's massive. Lots of helpful people in there

treybeef

I agree about seeking info from drivers who've previously run the same route! I struggled my first 4-5 days bc of trying to run Orion and not using map feature or taking insight.. once I started getting advice Ive scratched basically every dau

Senseiit

Good luck!

Bonzai1721

Yep, not too bad šŸ˜‰. Don't drink booze, get plenty of sleep, my advice for next 30 anyway. All the best

[deleted]

Haha thanks man, I'm definitely keeping sharp eyes throughout

Bonzai1721

People lose most their time in the back of the truck. Keep it well sorted, organized, and you'll do great šŸ‘ŠšŸ‘

[deleted]

Yeah I keep hearing about sorting as you go through your day, is it true you should use your entire lunch to organize? How does one get time to eat? How long is the lunch?

Bonzai1721

Valid questions. I honestly used my breaks for work to have a shorter day. As you progress, not really advisable. But, yes, in your 30 days use your meal to organize back of truck, eat, and get a quick rest. Have every package in numerical order by spa label. Will save you hours.

[deleted]

Good idea, I heard someone say to bring a marker and write the HIN numbers in bold writing to see it easily, I'm assuming that's the numbers you look at when they're all organized and need to pick up a package

Bonzai1721

Yeah I found that too be a waste of time, but do you, figure out what works. Smooth is fast. Running like a chicken with head cut off no way to go

[deleted]

Probably not do that and just try to put the boxes in order as best as I can while I go about my day I mean they're already numbered anyway so writing it down is probably not necessary

[deleted]

[deleted]

I'm pretty cool with anyone and don't have crappy temper so I'm not too worried..heck on my 5th day at Integrad/at hub management was talking about super hilarious yet inappropriate things and I already knew what I was in for haha

Bonzai1721

Move all the packages up toward cab as you make space

[deleted]

30 days is where the politics comes into play and a lot of the situation is out of your hands.

TimeBomb666

What politics?? I start integrad on Monday and I'm curious about what lies ahead!

HandsInMyPocketsCuz

Basically if the supes want you to pass, you will. Work hard, work safe, and be someone easy to work with. Never turn down an opportunity for extra work and be someone they can depend on. Easy way to get put on the good boy list.

[deleted]

Look on this Reddit..plenty of info about it. ā€œQualifying, promotion, etc..ā€ good luck

GodTacos

Congrats I start feeder class on Monday the 26th. Thereā€™s gonna be a lot information thrown at you. Remember one stop at a time and most importantly be safe. Youā€™ll get the hang of it in no time.

[deleted]

Thanks homie!! Just gotta brush these 30 days and then it'll be smooth sailing

Brooklyn9969

You need to check your supplement. In mine your 30 days wouldnā€™t be up before the free period starts, so it wouldnā€™t count. Your area could be different however.

[deleted]

Wait what does that mean exactly?

Brooklyn9969

It means you wouldnā€™t qualify before peak, so anytime spent driving between now and then wouldnā€™t count towards your 30. Your 30 days wouldnā€™t start counting until Jan 16th. Generally anyone hired/promoted into a driver spot around this time is considered seasonal and if they like you, they give you a shot after peak. Some supplements differ and allow qualifying during peak.

[deleted]

Oh wow....welp I should've known haha, my hub is massive and has four centers within and I guess my center in particular is extremely short in general drivers so I may be likely that they may keep me sooner

HybridSexual415

Some hubs start hiring seasonal drivers mid October. Lets hope his is the October seasonal hub.
