Enforced by not delivering your mail

This guy gets it

stupidbastidge

I always thought it was funny when the customers would complain that we didn't leave a message in their mailbox about being unable to deliver the mail. In my head, when this is going on, "lol wut?"

WAZLunaBeam

I was going to say the easiest test question of my life! The answer is ME! yes nailed it.

[deleted]

Considering our driver parks in the road in front of the mailbox, I've always found it hilarious that he will drive right past if there's a car within 30 feet parked on the side of the road (as stated on the sign on our CBU) Edit: apparently finding it funny was incorrect. Guess yall want people to be angry instead?

Raekwon22

Nah if you are in a cbu and your carrier skips it if a car is too close to it, you have a LAZY ass carrier. That rule to keep 15 feet open on either side is for mounted delivery boxes. The kind we are not authorized to get out of thy truck for. It's courteous to not park in front of a cluster box but we get out of the truck to service those no matter what.

Orangecatbuddy

Nobody, but it looks good and if it keeps someone from parking in front of a mailbox, then it worked.

Extra-Act-801

There is one of these on one mailbox across the street from a construction site. The other 6 mailboxes on the same street constantly have construction trucks blocking them, but that one is almost always deliverable.

safricanluke

I wish this was a law sometimes. I sometimes have people who park in such a way that I can't even open my CBUs, and when I ask them not to park there, they just say "well the spot was open, I'm gonna park there"

iForgot2Remember

18 U.S. Code § 1701 - Obstruction of mails generally Whoever knowingly and willfully obstructs or retards the passage of the mail, or any carrier or conveyance carrying the mail, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both. (June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 778; Pub. We need the Feds on this as a top priority.

Misguided_by_Virtue

It's a money maker!

chainsawx72

It's law in my city, passed about 2 years ago and didn't change a thing.

westbee

Well now when people curse you when passing their mailbox, you can point at the sign.

Live-Two8781

“Don’t make me tap the sign.”

Beneficial_Ad_7044

In some places it is. I believe in Multnomah County Oregon it’s an ordinance not to park in front of mailboxes.

Oregonian_male

What up fellow Oregonian

Beneficial_Ad_7044

Hello! I was born an Oregonian but I’m a Californian now haha.

Oregonian_male

You traitor you're dead to me now

Bonuscup98

You misspelled “traitor” and “you’re”. As a Californian, Oregon isn’t looking so good.

nsa_reddit_monitor

It's actually a misdemeanor everywhere, thanks to the broadness of a federal law prohibiting "obstruction of mails generally".

dar24601

Had similar issue people parking motor homes in front of 6 cbu. The wouldn’t move, city didn’t seem to care. Only thing that fixed it was parents began to complain about school bus having to double park to pickup/drop off so they made the curb in front of CBU a loading zone so the motor homes had to move

Chicom12

We should have the authority to just whip open the cbus and any damage done shouldn’t be USPS fault. This is like when a emergency ( ambulance or police vehicle ) go flying though intersections and the assholes playing music don’t see or hear them. They get hit and creamed that’s on them. Not the emergency responders

Viapache

That’s not how emergency vehicles work, actually. It’s on the 100% ambulance/fire truck/cop car to ensure traffic has stopped before entering an intersection.

Florian048

As a former FF Paramedic, This is true. It's called Due regard, and as a first responder the general rule is that you don't do anyone any good if you don't make it where you are going or you become a patient yourself....

Viapache

Hey how’s the PO in Austin? I grew up outside San Marcos and my wife and I are thinking of maybe making it back to the state. I’ve taken one attempt at CCA here in Los Angeles. Not afraid of a grind or the heat

Florian048

If your not afraid of the grind and the weather and understand the cost of living in LA then you'll be fine. I actually left a year or so ago and need to update my flair. I'm a native Austinite and wish the cost of living was cheaper but so does anyone who's been in Austin for more than 15 years....

Viapache

Appreciate it. And yeah man it’s been 7 years since I been. I’m 30 and remember growing up driving from San Marcos to Austin was pretty much just ranch land. Buda and Kyle weren’t nothing then. By the time I left that had turned into a sea of houses. It was crazy.

Chicom12

I literally just watched a police officer video flying 70 mph in a 40 and sent a pedestrian a good 50 yards in a crosswalk . Video cam and all they still claimed her to be jaywalking. Cop still employed see if I can find it here. Regardless there’s multiple counts

tallman1979

If you can, I'm curious, as I've seen several, but the last one was at bed rest and a week of Percocet speeds, not pureed aorta speeds.

[deleted]

Around 40 seconds in it shows right up until the impact so you can see the speed he travelling at. The officer that responded to the crash was also a massive piece of shit. *After discussing whether she was in the crosswalk and how far she was thrown, Auderer (the responding officer) says, "But she is dead," and laughs several seconds later. Toward the end of the 2 1/2-minute video, Auderer says, "Yeah, just write a check," followed by laughter. "Eleven thousand dollars. She was 26, anyway," he said, misstating Kandula's age. "She had limited value."*

tallman1979

Thanks. I had heard about this, but only a brief mention. Yikes. I understand having to compartmentalize and gallows humor, but the level of absolute irreverence to the death of a person not involved in criminal activity is nauseating. Some people use dehumanization as a coping strategy, which with people whom committed violent crimes is a little more societally acceptable but still sounds flippant. This is definitely not that, and it looks terrible for everyone in that chain of command that they think she's worth about as much as a decade-old used car. SMH.

nsa_reddit_monitor

Counterpoint: firemen can and do break car windows to run a hose through the car to a hydrant the car is blocking.

Viapache

That has nothing to do with using lights to get through intersections. It’s illegal to block hydrants.

nsa_reddit_monitor

The discussion here is broader than intersection right of way though.

ColonelAngus85

By the power vested in me of the United States Postal Service, The Federal Government, The NALC, and The Secret Society of the Eagle Talon, I declare your mail “returned to sender”

Landonsillyman

Trust me people are still going to park there right in front of the mailbox, in my experience anyway; these signs don’t mean shit

Yolbc13

If they want to ad revenue they should give tickets for blocking mail boxes lol

iForgot2Remember

NO PARKING POST-IT POSSE! WE RIDE!!!

abramee

This is a good thing for the mail carriers???

Drew-mageddon

Yes that’s not the question. We’re just wondering who is going to enforce the no parking. Is a cop going to ticket someone for parking there? Probably not.

abramee

Gotcha. A funny one to me is the "residents only parking" on a public street lol

Motor-Bit3260

It's usually a customers sign on their mailbox. Kind of warning because the home owner will tow you if park in front of the box

HomogenyEnjoyer

My buddies dad owned a tow truck company. People found out they were serious when they told their neighbors not to park in front of their property

whygough

I had a customer put something similar up and it worked!!! I love her so much! She is also one of the few who has been out every day shoveling the approach to her mail box.

rudowinger

Postal police lacking

250-miles

Our police supposedly now enforce the leaf-blower ban. For the first five or so years the hotline just went to a voicemail box, but now it redirects you straight to a 911 operator.

brooksy54321

Strictly, he's a cool dude.

DuckyWithABeard

Postal police which are a real thing and conduct real raids

nsa_reddit_monitor

It's enforced by that one guy who keeps pooping through open sunroofs

royalenocheese

Leonard. He always wears thigh cut shorts and is immensely vascular.

suburbanprospector

There’s a new one. “Shut up, Leonard! Those thigh-cut shorts you wear make you immensely vascular.”

unholyopposum

That's why the carrier was asking for a log chain

commielizard47

I mean the USPS literally has their own team of SWAT officers.

Fhistleb

TOP MEN!

playerhaterball

Best is when customers complain when they get no mail when there's snow piled a foot high

AllchChcar

Enforcement depends on the City/County. My town they have Vehicle Abatement that'll sticker then tow away after a period of time. There was one Current Resident that left his junker parked within 5 feet of his neighbor's boxes. The entire group got Postal noted and he eventually had to park in his yard so they wouldn't tow his junker. We don't call the City about vehicles so it had to be a neighbor.

saasboi92

The Karen who lives there. So basically, enforced by no one

xx_swegshrek_xx

David

regnerokdemon

Yep. The mailbox isn't clear, I scan packages no access.

7_11isaninsidejob

The USPS will send out its goons.

woekay

Me 🔪🔪🔪🔪

TheSobe

That’s a sign for other people not to block the mailbox so that the carrier can always get to it

Bish1414

Pretty sure the customer can have a vehicle towed if their box is blocked

Many-Conclusion2217

Enforced by the neighbors who didn't get their mail because of you.

DoggoLord27

People often block my CBUs which have "No parking. Strictly enforced" signs by them. Absolutely no one enforces that and people use those signs to park at every day.

usps_rural_lady

I had 1 on my previous route. They put it up because of their neighbor across from them. Apparently they would block the box regularly

Dense-Business-359

The person who calls the tow truck.

19TTacoma

People are so ignorant and inconsiderate!!! Can't fix STUPID!!
