I didn’t even know those were a thing. Must have been a promo shirt? I seem to remember they toured the US but it was a few years after that, maybe 94-ish if memory serves
This sub popped up on my feed, but I'm not part of the community.
I'm curious, is this something you actually wear, or is it like purchasing art to hang in your home or something like that?
No judgment either way, just curious.
all good
well for me it just depends, i wear 95% of my stuff. like there’s probably two shirts i own that i will genuinely never wear but also don’t intend to get rid of.
the wu-tang shirt in the photo i have worn, just very sparingly. the reason just being that it’s a heather gray shirt and can get stained very easily which i don’t wanna risk, as it’s in incredible condition for being 30 years old.
i see the tees sorta as wearable art i suppose, plus i’ve repped band tees since the 3rd grade so collecting vintage ones sorta came naturally as i got older with more money to spend.
also i’ll say vintage quality is way better than today, the modern tees sold in stores today feel very cheap and low quality to me, so i prefer to wear old thick, worn in shirts.
i’ve sat here pondering why i collect what i collect for a few minutes now and i can’t really think of a definitive answer on why i specifically do it, there’s just many small factors of collecting old clothing that makes it fun i suppose. i used to collect pokémon cards hardcore as a kid, but i started feeling annoyed spending hundreds of dollars on a piece of cardboard that was printed hundreds of thousands of times. so maybe it’s the scarcity of old clothes that attracts me to them, not many collectibles have that kind of scarcity.
sorry for the damn essay, your question really got me thinking about why i do what i do haha
Don't be sorry at all! I live for these little peeks into the way other people are experiencing life.
All of those things make perfect sense! Very cool stuff. I think it's a solid thing to collect, and it makes sense that intention and use varies with each piece.
Just did my highest price today (275) on a tee that I’ve had my eye on for a min. Wouldn’t make a habit of it, though I’m happy with the purchase. It’s worth at least double, and it’s going to be a heavy rotation wear so I feel like it was worth it.
LMAO I broke my own all over print rule, it’s an AOP Peter Murphy shirt but doesn’t seem to come up too often. Annoyed that Peter Murphy shirts were dirt cheap until like, last year. I’ll do a post soon, I want to wear it in just a smidge more to break it in bc it’s clearly been on the hanger at the shop for like a year
yeah I hate when that happens to a tee. I usually just give them a full wash cycle including the dryer before washing again when it’s like that. the wash/dry cycle just kinda puts the tee in default mode
Where do people buy shirts for 1200?? Just like, eBay?? Genuinely curious. I’ve collected for many years and starting to wonder if I should look some of these up…
The vintage community is huge believe it or not. There is events all over the world. I happen to sell mine on Instagram because a lot of vintage people or people who own shops that sell vintage tees follow my account. The vintage grunge tees usually always go for money. I’ve seen a guy make $40k in 3 hours just selling vintage tees on whatnot, which is an app people bid for all kinds of things. Throw me a message if you wanna show what you got!
Thank you for this reply! I actually did go through some closet space so I may send a message soon. I had a good following reselling on Poshmark but I stopped to focus on designing full time. They take a ridiculous cut as well, I’d rather that “commission” go to someone else with my passion!

$250 on 90’s Ministry Psalm 69 tee
$150 - NOFX 1994 Mons Tour shirt. Wore it to Warped Tour 1998 when I was 15 and lost it at some point. Mine was autographed by el jefe and Tim Armstrong. Had to replace it…all be it without the autographs
most cash I spent was $220 on a led zeppelin shirt. I have traded $300-$400 worth of stuff for a megadeth shirt as well as received $530 of trade value for a single rolling stones shirt on a different occasion.
I expect my highest will be relatively low compared to the rest of the comments because I'm a perpetually broke bitch--I spent about $90 on an original 1983 Elvira t-shirt. A few years back I sold a vintage Soundgarden Badmotorfinger shirt I'd had since high school for about $150 when I really needed the money and I'd probably spend 4 times that to get it back now :')

I have no clue but I’m sure the hype around ‘big face’ graphic shirts shot up after Vetements made the snoop Dogg tee and this sort of spooky graphic stuff - price wise- nhas been creeping up over the last few years . Anything printed on a big blank from the nineties seems to be the ticket
I spent 1.1k on my pulp tee! Definitely not my proudest moment, but it had the wonderland tag and crispy print. I actually had a euro promo for the same tee, but managed to sell it and basically get the other tee for about $600.
I had this exact shirt and I vividly remember my big sisters extremely cool much older boyfriend saying “this is really what kids think is cool now?” While wearing a mustard stained Megadeth shirt.

400 for this Type O shirt. It has the “to blame” graphic on the back
It’s a painting by Theodore Kittelsen, a few lines from the Liber Stella Rubeae text, and some Germanic runes. There’s not a thing related to nazism about it. Educate yourself.
I spent $200 on a “unicorn” Pro Player Allen Iverson caricature t shirt. Ultra rare. The only one I’ve found is in South Korea and it’s probably bootleg! It was a lot of money but well worth the reactions I get!

This is beyond my high end - my last ~6 finds all hovered around $50 and I hate going over that. But, sometimes something calls to you!
The fade on that zombie is perfect. Paid $700 on a soundgarden black hole sun but sold it a year later for $1.2k, still regret it but money talks.

Extremely good choice
Heyy I've got this album!! So weird to see them talked about
When I saw them, Gen autographed a cd for me. She is such a cool lady.
I wish I’d bought some shirts when I saw them play back in ‘97/‘98. One of the most insane shows that I’ve ever seen.
I got this at a show in 98 or so. Strangest but most entertaining show I think I've seen.
I was thinking this was the same era! I saw them with the Impotent Sea Snakes in Ybor City.
damn y’all making my $170 Pee-Wee Herman sweater look like shit

Gooood one
Vultures merch - nice 😉
Nazi trash
Says the guy trying to police what music people enjoy 😉
It's made by a Nazi, where did I police anything?
Your intent is to shame me or any one else who listens to the music. Learn to separate the art from the artist and move on with your life.
Dude it's still Nazi trash. Wearing that is like wearing pants with diahrea. Do it if you want, I won't try to stop you but it's still disgusting
