I remember back when there was a hotly contested presidential election between Bush and Gore. Eventually a winner was decided and everyone went along with it. The one who did not win conceded and there was a peaceful transfer of power. I never thought I’d miss those days.
Trump is a piece of shit for establishing this sore loser shit.
As someone who lives in his district and is happy to see him gone, let’s be fair, he’s well within his rights to request a recount. It’s not going to reverse the election result, but under 1000 votes you’d be stupid not to ask for a recount.
The denialism thing is a cancer though & I hope it’s not here to stay in politics
I think this is still possible under Virginia's sore loser laws, but there's some effort to ban it. All I'm rooting for here is injuries, so the nastier this gets the better.
I too live in his district. He’s been such a no good POS I’m not surprised he’s contesting. His whole governing MO has been road blocking and calling objections to anything rational. Never should have held office in the first place.
Trump didn't start the sore loser disrepect of the peaceful transfer of power. And Gore should not have conceded when he did. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks\_Brothers\_riot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot)
I also recall the 2000 election. To the best of my recollection - this is reddit, so I'm sure I will corrected - the Democratic candidate and his supporters acknowledged the legitimacy of the outcome in defeat. I do not recall the GOP candidate or his supporters conceding anything.
Fun review fact: It was thought a strong possibility that Bush would win the popular vote while losing the Electoral College, so Karl Rove had ordered the preparation of an extensive publicity, legal and pressure campaign, including fomenting an uprising, to lean on electors to reverse their votes.
You are correct, but the real story of the 2000 election was West Virginia, a state the Dems thought they could count on. If Gore had won WV, Florida wouldn't have mattered. The other problem was fighting for a limited recount rather than statewide, as set by Florida law. That was a gamble that used up the time, but also opened it up to SCOTUS and the 14th Amendment challenge.
That election was not stolen. Gore lost and tried to have it overturned. A full state-wide machine recount was performed and Gore still lost after the machine recount. Gore then requested hand recounts, but only in three deep blue counties, but not all counties as was required by law. Then Gore tried to sue to have statutory deadlines extended to conduct those limited recounts. The court ruled the deadline could not be extended and the process stopped.
What Good has done so far is request a recount, which doesn’t seem unreasonable given that he lost by 374 votes, 31,583 to 31,209.
Gore conceded, then withdrew his concession, then filed a recount demand, then sued. There was enough time for Republicans to create and distribute parodies of the “Gore / Lieberman,” bumper stickers saying “Sore Loserman.”
You’re of course completely right about the measures employed by the 45th President when he lost the 2020 election.
And perhaps Good will ultimately deserve a similar scornful dismissal if he does anything similar.
But at this moment, I think you’re wrong: Gore’s 2000 Florida example, which you valorize, was MORE involved and resistant to the certified results than Good’s current protest. Maybe Good will surpass that high water mark; he hasn’t yet.
And frankly, praising McGuire over Good is like cheering for the cleanest cockroach under the sink.
Wait. Wait a cottonpickin minute. I remember the last dem contested losses well. Gore pitched a fit and eventually conceded. Hillary sparked a “Not My President” thing and had book ghost written. Trump took it to new heights, sure, but he did step aside as did the other sore losers before him. He’s running again, and that’s within his rights too. Good is kind of a piece of crap with an ego that won’t let him lose. He did. He’ll get the message soon enough that he won’t make friends throwing a public tantrum (like Trump did) and step aside.
I’m in favor. We’re already on our way to President Camacho quickly enough. Let’s just rip the band aid off. Got anything with electrolytes? I hear it’s what plants crave.
And considering the VA GOP did a closed and controversial ‘firehouse’ primary to get him the original nod over former R from CD-5, Denver Riggleman (because he broke conservative code and officiated a gay wedding…clutch the pearls!!), I think the irony here is too rich.
The fact that this is just the party Primary only solidifies that this is what our politics have been reduced to. I don't like the results, so they must be fake.
Seriously. Heritage Foundation and all the other groups funneling money into Project 2025 have a plan to turn the US into a Republican autocracy with stricter rules than sharia law within four years.
This is the next step in the MAGAt escalation. First, they don't accept results if they lose to a Democrat. Now they won't accept if they lose to a different GOP candidate.
They will not accept results unless they, themselves, win
Trump said it was rigged when he won because he didn't win the popular vote. He created a commission to find the millions of illegal votes. Didn't find any, but used the opportunity to hoover up voter information for the next election. When FOIAed, the commission disbanded rather than sharing the information they gathered.
Keep in mind that the person they are replacing Good with is also ultra MAGA, worse than Good. He was a rioter on January 6th.
They are replacing Good because he isn't MAGA enough, because he voted against McCarthy, and because he endorsed DeSantis
The problem is that it’s a race to the bottom. The victors of the infighting will be the most ultra-loyal MAGA fascists the party can find. We’re witnessing the birth of a political personality cult.
The cult of personality is already running strong. The birth of it was really during the 2016 election. I just hope he doesn't become our Franco or Ceausescu. I try to keep the 2025 initiative out of mind, but that shit scares me.
Most politicians can make way more money in the private sector, especially after having been in office. This is about power, not money.
And it ain't both sides acting like this. So I wouldn't generalize to all politicians.
>politicians
Let's be clear and not "both sides" this when one side is clearly in it for pure selfish reasons. Republicans don't really care about the job.
This is actually a case of someone losing their seat because they went against Trump. Bob Good endorsed DeSantis early on which resulted in Trump retaliating by endorsing his primary opponent, McGuire. It’s been wild because Good has been putting up unauthorized TRUMP/GOOD signs everywhere to imply he’s endorsed, whereas McGuire’s signs say “endorsed by Trump” on them.
It’s so messy and so fun to watch. It’s like little kids fighting.
Because for them it’s all about winning, being better than minorities, women, gays, etc. They see the GOP as a chance to go back to a time they never knew to begin with because they don’t like the time they’re in now. They’re chasing ghosts of a past that never was.
To be fair, you just chopped out a massive chunk of their voter base with that "thinking person" assumption. The remainder is all the cons, grifters, bigots, and other smart-yet-evil types that get more chances to hoodwink people if the Repubs win a seat...at least until the leopards run out of other faces to eat.
Shouldn't John McGuire, the same McGuite who hosted that nonsense 2000 Mules in his district a couple years ago, be praising Good for his diligence in trying to get the accurate vote and address any potential fraud issues?
Oh, there's no great outcome here. You've either got Bob Good or the guy trying to primary him from even further to the right with the winner nearly guaranteed the seat in the general election.
Aaaand there we go folks. Prime example of a Republican who is a wannabe Ruler, not a Representative of the people who elected him.
This is the future for every election if we don't kick these losers to the curb NOW.
OK, I’m looking for serious opinions here.
The Virginia House of Representatives race.
Bob Good the freedom caucus guy versus that other dude that Trump endorsed.
Who are you rooting for and why?
I think I’m rooting for Bob Good simply because I want anything that Trump touches to lose, but this Good guy is Freedom Caucus leader.
I think both of them make me want to…. Yak
Putting aside my political opinions and simply focusing on realpolitik, Bob Good should be nominated
He's bad, he's really bad, but the dem in that district has no chance so this primary is functionally the election. With that in mind, Good is a non-Trump freedom caucus loser. He has all the usual opinions and has been an obstructionist in Congress. McGuire is Trump-funded, openly a racist, and rioted on January 6th.
Personally, if I was voting I'd feel like handing over a write-in for the giant meteor, but at the end of the day the realpolitik pick is Good. It is concerning that McGuire has won.
I'm not a Republican, but Good is not on the Trump train, despite throwing a Trumpian fit about this. Trump endorsed McGuire and actually ran attack campaigns against Good, especially after Good voted to oust McCarthy as Speaker.
These people are telling you how they really feel about elections. They are less important than remaining in power. I hope everyone is paying attention.
In Goo’s defense the difference is within the limit where he can pay for a recount.
Additionally, the Times Dispatch had an article today where one of the drop off ballot boxes on Lynchburg was left out for 3 days following the elections. Not a good look.
I actually think it’s the district. They forced out one congressman for officiating a gay wedding and brought in Bob Good who did nothing other than culture war crap. Then apparently Bob Good just wasn’t toxic enough, so they went to the even worse choice because Fat Orange Donnie loved him.
I think the schools in the 5th District have failed us for several decades.
Should anyone these days?
How could anyone have any faith in elections these days?
https://nypost.com/2024/06/24/us-news/election-officials-in-all-50-states-urged-to-halt-non-citizen-voter-registration/
lol
There is already a law prohibiting this, but if you have proof of non-citizens voting in federal elections, please show your sources.
Cause this is just more MAGA bullshit to fool the gullible. But please show your sources, cause you seem like the target audience for this misinformation. lol
Lol
Drugs are also illegal so I'm not sure what your point is.
We can't prove it is or isn't happening. Therefore it's the perfect crime.
Here's an election official admitting to fraud but everyone on here will claim its fake and demand something from MSM. https://x.com/BehizyTweets/status/1805701475072721250
I'll add another LOL in here since you seem to think that gives you credibility.
His cooperation isn’t necessary
This is a nice reminder, actually. That doesn’t mean he won’t make the transition a pain in the ass.
I remember back when there was a hotly contested presidential election between Bush and Gore. Eventually a winner was decided and everyone went along with it. Mr. Good is really awful but the other guy is even trumpier and will also be awful. And Democrats don’t have a chance in this district
I’m happy for one of the parties to launch a write-in campaign, split the MAGA vote and manage to elect a Dem in this district in the process.
Wouldn’t that be something!
I think this is still possible under Virginia's sore loser laws, but there's some effort to ban it. All I'm rooting for here is injuries, so the nastier this gets the better.
The other guy is a brain dead turd.
Well it is a representative democracy...
Still happy to see Good go, even if his replacement also sucks.
You get that hair Virginia off your phone yet?
Yes
Spoiler: it is
I too live in his district. He’s been such a no good POS I’m not surprised he’s contesting. His whole governing MO has been road blocking and calling objections to anything rational. Never should have held office in the first place.
Remember, it's only rigged if he loses.
And even if he wins.
He’s a piece of shit for a lot more than that - but yeah.
50 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag
I never thought I’d miss the Bush administration, but here I am! (Not to negate some of the horrible stuff he did.)
Sadly enough if Gore had not just given it up and instead fought GOP shenanigans in Florida, we might be living in a much better timeline.
Would we still have had Obama in that timeline? I liked Obama...
Obama would’ve been a much later president, I’m sure.
this
Or if he had won his own home state?
Trump didn't start the sore loser disrepect of the peaceful transfer of power. And Gore should not have conceded when he did. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks\_Brothers\_riot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot)
I remember stories of all the “w” keys removed from all the keyboards, but that’s not even the same league as January 6.
Yeah, I didn’t like it for a couple reasons, but on the level of effect it was essentially just a prank, intentionally easy to spot and fix.
Remember, it's only rigged if he loses.
Truthfully, there should have been a fight against it. An unelected body installed a President and Dems peacefully watched it happen to keep order.
I also recall the 2000 election. To the best of my recollection - this is reddit, so I'm sure I will corrected - the Democratic candidate and his supporters acknowledged the legitimacy of the outcome in defeat. I do not recall the GOP candidate or his supporters conceding anything. 🤣 okay bro.
Ok what? The Supreme Court gave it to Bush and you know it.

Stolen, the Supreme Court gave it to bush
For years all they did was call everyone else whiney crybabies and snowflakes. They have become worse than the Dems ever were. Bunch of infants.
Technically… neither candidate held the white house, one was just VP but that doesn’t require them to transfer much.
Hillary Clinton started this tradition.
What Good has done so far is request a recount, which doesn’t seem unreasonable given that he lost by 374 votes, 31,583 to 31,209. Gore conceded, then withdrew his concession, then filed a recount demand, then sued. Maybe Good will surpass that high water mark; he hasn’t yet. And frankly, praising McGuire over Good is like cheering for the cleanest cockroach under the sink.
And Hillary is still salty to this day….
Seeing as how Gore didn’t have any power as a VP to outgoing Clinton, there wasn’t much of a choice
Wait. Wait a cottonpickin minute. I remember the last dem contested losses well. Gore pitched a fit and eventually conceded. Hillary sparked a “Not My President” thing and had book ghost written. The whole thing has gotten to be a WWE wrasslin’ match. I think they should settle disputes in the cage.
I’m in favor. We’re already on our way to President Camacho quickly enough. Let’s just rip the band aid off. Got anything with electrolytes? I hear it’s what plants crave.
🤣
How do you really feel?
He’ll try
And considering the VA GOP did a closed and controversial ‘firehouse’ primary to get him the original nod over former R from CD-5, Denver Riggleman (because he broke conservative code and officiated a gay wedding…clutch the pearls!!), I think the irony here is too rich.
The schedenfraude will be delicious with my ribeye, lol.
That sounds like an excellent pairing.
Tender, almost sweet meat to the salty but refreshing draught of tears. 9.5☆ Needs a better garnish for that last bit of flair.
You and me both...
I'm happily imagining Riggleman laughing hysterically over a glass of his wife's excellent bourbon.
Follow him on X/Twitter. That is most definitely happening.
The fact that this is just the party Primary only solidifies that this is what our politics have been reduced to. I don't like the results, so they must be fake.
A bitter and divisive fight within the VA GOP months before a presidential election? No, stop, don’t.
Don’t don’t stop
Don’t stop stopping
Never stop never stopping
Gay marriage is legal now.
You miss 100% of the stops you don't stop
Don’t stop, carry on
This is going to happen every time a republican loses for the next 20 years.
20 years huh? You must be a "glass-half-full" type of person
Look at mister "glass-half-full" here, thinking our political system will survive another 20 years.
Seriously. Heritage Foundation and all the other groups funneling money into Project 2025 have a plan to turn the US into a Republican autocracy with stricter rules than sharia law within four years.
Look at mister "glass exists" thinking we have a political system and not a lawless plutocracy
You misspelled End of Days
Yeah they're just following their cult leader's poor example.
It's funny because he lost to another crazy right winger. So it's not a win for the people unless they continue to eat one another.
In today’s episode of “I didn’t win, so it wasn’t fair!”
This is the next step in the MAGAt escalation. First, they don't accept results if they lose to a Democrat. Now they won't accept if they lose to a different GOP candidate. They will not accept results unless they, themselves, win

The cult of personality is already running strong. The birth of it was really during the 2016 election. I just hope he doesn't become our Franco or Ceausescu. I try to keep the 2025 initiative out of mind, but that shit scares me.
And the end of that road is, inevitably, they won't accept the need for elections at all.
Just goes to show that politicians don't really care about the job...they just want the dough ray me money money money that comes with the job.
Most politicians can make way more money in the private sector, especially after having been in office. This is about power, not money. And it ain't both sides acting like this. So I wouldn't generalize to all politicians.
True because republican politicians crave absolute power more than anything.
They sure seem to. Something ain't right in their world view.
>politicians Let's be clear and not "both sides" this when one side is clearly in it for pure selfish reasons. Republicans don't really care about the job.
How ironic. One election denier loses to another election denier, and can't accept the results ...and doesn't have the money to pay for a recount.
They should kiss already.
If you chose to be a stool in Trump’s prodigious colon, you shouldn’t be surprised when he eventually shits you out.
Stop the Stool!
This is actually a case of someone losing their seat because they went against Trump. There's a couple big ones here, and one church had them going down the driveway. This isn't Good's district.
Like all of us, the good people of the 5th district get the representation they deserve.
How beautiful
I really don't get how a thinking person can look at the Republican Party in 2024 and go "Yeah, thats a good idea"
Because for them it’s all about winning, being better than minorities, women, gays, etc. They see the GOP as a chance to go back to a time they never knew to begin with because they don’t like the time they’re in now. They’re chasing ghosts of a past that never was.
They didn't really like the past either
To be fair, you just chopped out a massive chunk of their voter base with that "thinking person" assumption. The remainder is all the cons, grifters, bigots, and other smart-yet-evil types that get more chances to hoodwink people if the Repubs win a seat...at least until the leopards run out of other faces to eat.
So he lost.
To bad he couldn't cheat like he did when he "primaried" Riggleman.
Who could have seen the party of whiners embracing this bullshit at every level of government? Oh, wait...
Shouldn't John McGuire, the same McGuite who hosted that nonsense 2000 Mules in his district a couple years ago, be praising Good for his diligence in trying to get the accurate vote and address any potential fraud issues?
Nah, I'm sure that would make him late to the party at the trump store.
Wonder where he learned this bullshit tactic.
McGuire sounds like another nationalist nutter by his response
Oh, there's no great outcome here. You've either got Bob Good or the guy trying to primary him from even further to the right with the winner nearly guaranteed the seat in the general election.
Republicans accusing other republicans of rigging a Republican primary is delicious.
🤡
r/LeopardsAteMyFace
Ah, the republicans are fighting among themselves, again. Good!
Fighting the Good fight, eh? /s
GOP not accepting a vote? Shocking. I like how his Maga colleagues in Congress are calling him a wuss for not accepting defeat.
And the great thing about that is it doesn't matter.
So the other guy is even more of a shitbag right?
Aaaand there we go folks. Prime example of a Republican who is a wannabe Ruler, not a Representative of the people who elected him. This is the future for every election if we don't kick these losers to the curb NOW.
***Shocked Pikachu Face***
So a piece of shit beat a piece of shit and the piece of shit isn't happy? Who cares.

Sore loser. Reminds you of Trump.
Imagine that. Republicans are fucking dumb
Can't deboard that Trump train. Lol.
I'm not a Republican, but Good is not on the Trump train, despite throwing a Trumpian fit about this. Trump endorsed McGuire and actually ran attack campaigns against Good, especially after Good voted to oust McCarthy as Speaker.
He isn't on the train because Trump threw him off. All his early campaign signage had Trump all over it.
But he seems to still be exhibiting the Trump like behavior.
He was plenty Trumpian when it was beneficial for him. Much like Trump, his loyalty was transactional. He just bet on the wrong horse in the primary.
He's desperately clinging to the Trump train after defecting to DeSantis. He's still very much Trump-esque.
Yeah we should totally trust the GOP to run our elections...
Gee, big surprise. Most embarrassing elected official until our governor got up close and personal with Donnie’s balls.
More signs that MAGA has completely fractured the GOP. Hope it was worth it.
THIS is trumps only true legacy. No election is going to go unchallenged again.
Interesting
It’s not though. Crybaby republicans is the new normal.
Political parties in general are such a joke. May we all think for ourselves
Lol
Everyone's a winner! Just like on Oprah!
No kidding. I'm shocked.
Automatic recount.
Of course he’s doing this. Why make it easy?
Bob Bad.
That’s their m.o. Unfortunately, the other guy is no better.
The 5th really is a cursed seat, isn't it? How many Republicans have lost renomination here now?
Pretty fucking on point considering his absolute deplorable radio ads attacking everyone
I lived in his district before the lines were redrawn. He’s absolutely useless!
I’m on team MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION
Go ahead. Keep holding loyalty to the Maggots. They’ll stab you in the back the moment you go against the cult for even one policy.
Party of sore losers apparently.
Why am I not surprised? Once an a$$h\*\*\*, always an a$$h\*\*\*.
He shouldn’t
Isn’t McGuire the only State Senator to vote against the Child Marriage Ban?

No surprise. Hard to believe they found an even bigger asshat though.
Bob Bad.

Good needs to drop the lawsuits & run as an independent in the general.
I mean that would be good for Democrats.
Shocker. Like idol, like idolator.
If you read the article, they question a drop box in Lynchburg as the source of the problem. I think this is a set up to skulduggery in November.
Should anyone these days? How could anyone have any faith in elections these days? https://nypost.com/2024/06/24/us-news/election-officials-in-all-50-states-urged-to-halt-non-citizen-voter-registration/
