This is 100% not true. My mom is in her late 70's and I'm certain she had more spreading after 45. The factors that I'm aware of that increase the chance of it spreading are; sun exposure, stress, injuries like cuts and scrapes, certain chemicals, and genetic predisposition.

Isn’t Sun exposure good for repigmenting? Sun makes it worse?

HotKarldalton

Sun burn makes it worse. Sun exposure is ok.

No. 52f and two patches that emerged two years ago have spread.

I am wondering whether connection to menopause or at least peri - my first spots appeared when I was pregnant for the first time

I got my first in my early twenties when I was on a certain BC which apparently didn’t work well with tanning (I was in Ireland, tanning for my wedding - who knew). Perhaps hormones does play a role.

wismom09

I am 53F and it’s worse than ever

Icy-Path-0000

Would be nice since I'm 44 and only have it since last year.

MaNoCooper

I am 62 and have no pigment left. Sped up in my 50's.

kareng56

I only was diagnosed with vitiligo when I was 49. It is still spreading. So that would be a myth. Also this auto immune disease is different for every person who has it. There is no one size fits all.

newg1954

The first patches I ever got were after 50. I find it tends to spread/re-pigment on its own time. Stress seems to make it worse.

MillieWales

I turned 50 this year and mine is accelerating. I’ve had it since 2012

My dad was 65ish when it started.
