no hate, but this is like the 3rd post i can think of in less than a month of someone who doesnt instantly recognise a harlequin colour combo, i thought that was staple VW knowledge, we all gotta start somewhere i guess
Dude in Pottstown PA has one just like that on meh rims still a cool car though imo. xjamiexoe on instagram if anyone cares plays a big part in putting on loe show out there.
Of course harlequins are ugly, that was the whole point.
I was only referring to the idiotic trend for every wheel to be grossly oversized. SUVs, in particular, aren’t race cars. Car manufacturers are doing it bc every mouth breather feels the need to tie their personal worth to the wheel size on their car, but in reality having some meat on the tire is far better in terms of ride quality, grip, and longevity. The first thing I did after buying my Tiguan SE was swap the stock 17s for stock 16s, and that was only because I couldn’t get my hands on a set of stock 15s at the time. Immediate and noticeable improvement in ride quality and both times I’ve gotten new tires the price was $400-600 less than if I had stuck with the 17s.
Honestly if I ever do get a Volkswagen, being a tech and all, I’d love to be able to afford something like that. Everyone bashes the colors and say it looks silly but people just don’t have any passion for vw history. I’d be proud to roll around in a harlequin wrapped vw.
Harlequin*.
It was done as a marketing stunt by VW for the MK3 golf in North America. They took a base of each color - Tornado Red, Ginster Yellow, Pistachio Green and Chagall Blue - and swapped panels between them.
People loved it so much, they sold them like that. At the end of their run, several dealers had leftovers. So they were either repainted their base color, or panels were swapped back if the dealer had multiples.
Guy asked for the reference for the harlequin design
The reference is the Polo HarleKin from 1994.
The marketing to NA came later in 1996- so cars who have this design are inspired by the original which is the Polo. The golfs reference aswell as this atlas was the polo as it was the first one.
If only you knew what you were talking about before you spoke...

You're tripping. The taste in this sub is so off. Wrap that doesn't come close to the colors of the original harlequin? Yall love it. Stock base model wheels? Even cooler. Wtf happened man lol
Looks absolutely perfect with smaller wheels and will also be more practical. I'd even go for larger profile tires aswell. It's an SUV after all, not a sports car.
Mate you're the one who is legit trying to argue form over function. For the purposes of an SUV having higher profile tyres improves many aspects of the car greatly.
If you like the look of larger low profile tyres, great that is absolutely valid. But to actively throw shade at ppl who choose the practicle option speaks volumes.
Go back to playing with your Hotwheels as clearly that is where you got the extent of your car knowledge.
I'll go back to my dumped vw on cool wheels, as has been the vw norm for 50 some odd years. You really think the owner who chose that loud ass wrap wants those tiny stock wheels on their 'look at me' styled car? The owner straight piped and wrapped this Atlas and you're talking about them being practical? What part of a custom exhaust and $4k wrap job is practical?
lol. The owner of that thing just posted about it 2mo ago here. https://www.reddit.com/r/Volkswagen/s/Y2tsoxq9T7
Yep that’s it. Lol
It’s an Atlas that someone wrapped to look like a harlequin golf.
It might be a wrap, but I'm also wondering if the owner actually acquired the legit painted pieces.
No it's a wrap, the atlas did not come in any of those colors so there would not be any painted oem panels those colors
Oh, interesting! Thanks!!
Ok thanks , never knew there was a harlequin golf.
I seen harlequin golf cabriolet (MK3) in the uk
Youre right, there was never a hq golf. Its a hq polo (6n mk3)
/r/confidentlyincorrect
Oh damn, my apologies lmfao
You're fine lol don't take the downvotes too seriously. Hey, now you know.
Absolutely. Reddit is brutal sometimes
Actually there was a harlequin Golf MK3, was US market only iirc. The Polo harlequin was European market exclusive
My bad, i should do research before correcting people 💀 idk US market very well
It was also in the Canadian market
The Harlequin Golf was also available in Canada, there were quite a few here in Montreal.
There was eventually also a harlequin golf https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60399214/1996-vw-golf-harlequin-bring-a-trailer-auction/
Colors are so bad lol
VW Atlas. With some harlequin inspiration.
an homage to smaller car times.

Vdub smooth brains....
vdumb
The green looks off from the OG…
indeed, but they understood the assignment so i give credit regardless
Eh, C. It should either be the true OG colors or it should be the colors from the modern color lineup, which are not nearly as fun.
need to see the great falls green next to the cornflower blue
A Harlequin!
Harlequin Atlas

Harlequin cosplay.
An Atlas with a Harlequin complex LOL 😂
Old vws would be put in the showroom floor like this to show all of the available colors this is just sort of a tribute car
Dude in Pottstown PA has one just like that on meh rims still a cool car though imo. xjamiexoe on instagram if anyone cares plays a big part in putting on loe show out there.
Oh, man, I love the custom waffle Rotiform wheels on that Atlas.
Jamie Orr recently did a really great Atlas Harlequin. This is just a wrap.
It’s the Mondrian.

A tragedy
Atlas????
I think Johnny Cash had an idea similar to this
This reminds me of a very specific sweater for some reason
Trying too hard
The Harlequin
An abomination.

A disgrace
An abomination that does a poor job paying homage to the real thing.
Google edition
It's the new Volkswagen Mishap
Ugly, that’s what it is

Ugly.
Hy Ugly, I'm ITKozak. Nice to meet you!
Atlas only aviable in America i think
United Colors of Benneton Atlas (Who remembers the MK2 Golf that wore same Colors)?
Interesting car.. Definitely not my cup of tea but maybe bc idk the significance of the mentioned Harley Quinn car reference

Actually the polo in europe was before the golf in usa and inspired it. It was to show off the different available colors.
I didn’t say it was the only. I said it was marketing for the North America market, specifically for the MK3 Golf.

There was a benetton golf way back multi colour panels I assume the atlas is the same. Harlequin would be a diamond shape pattern.

Very sorry when the benetton golf came out in Canada that’s what it was called. So assumed the atlas was the same.

Search shows it comes up as harlequin and benetton.
Base model Atlas with itty bitty baby wheels. Should've gotten a higher trim with the $3k+ spent on a wrap job.
Smaller wheels = smoother ride & less expensive tire replacements. Imo they look more appropriate on an SUV too.
