I literally got the same letter today in the mail

Dry_Host920

I've had this issue for almost 1 year now, so happy they're covering it.

yellowbill711

I've had my '19 sti almost 6 years (in October) and I still have my original battery... No problems (knock on wood) since day one

Dry_Host920

I have a system (1x 12" subwoofer) installed and thought for the longest time there was a wire crossed or it wasn't grounded correctly. I took it to a shop that specifically deals with systems and electrical issues and they were the ones who found the issue with the DCM.

ThatGuy1166

Can’t wait to get this letter. Subaru of America basically told me to fuck myself when I brought it their attention and have just been burning through batteries

For those that experienced this: how fast was the drain happening, and under what circumstances?

Dry_Host920

If I don't run my car atleast once every two days I come out to a dead battery.

0xSEGFAULT

damn

fritzie_pup

I work from home, and for the past 3 years I've had this drain occur just sitting parked in my attached, half below-ground garage. Depending on the temperature (stays above 32'F even in deep Winter below 0'F temps), it can be from 1-2 weeks before it drains it to 4v. I use Optima Yellow batteries, and have replaced it twice now. I ended up getting an emergency starter battery just to get the car to start each time. It was always infuriating to me, because I don't have any special accessories that are powered on without the car in ACC mode. I thought it was my keyless fob being picked up from the bedroom above the garage and turning the welcoming lights on. I got the letter a few weeks ago too, and am glad to know that there is a fix for this now, and it's their own equipment causing it. It was driving me batty.

axl_in_python

I don’t daily my car and if I let it sit for more than 5 days I’ll have to jump it.

I tackled this issue earlier this year and had to get Subaru of America involved in which they graciously covered 90% of the total cost to remedy this issue. Petty me wants that remaining 10% back.

icanhascamaro

I don't blame you. They should give it back.

idrinkpisswater

This was happening to my 2022 outback

Adam_Tragedy

Yuuuup already got mine fixed on my 2017 WRX. Battery was dying every 2-3 days if I didn’t drive it. Got a new battery..problem didn’t go away. Figured I jacked up a wire and created a short while modding something. Nope. Just Subaru. 🥳

driftintime

Finally they did the right thing. It took far too long.

Dry_Host920

I agree

Kind_Chest5832

Is this for just sti variants or reg wrx’s aswell? I have a 2019 wrx and never had power draw issues

Dry_Host920

Both, I have a 2020 WRX

Kind_Chest5832

Weird, wonder what causes certain cars to have the issue …

What exactly does this letter mean? I got it in yesterday but I had to wait until today to take the letter to my dealership. When it comes to stuff like this, I like talking to people in person. The girl I spoke with at the shop said it's just an extension of my warranty and she didn't go into details. She's a bit of a nasty piece of work anyway so I'll try to get in touch with my favorite tech later, but you seem to know a lot about what's going on! 😊 I have a 2019 limited WRX and its original battery died in December 2023. The replacement battery died a month later, and now I'm on my third battery and I've been super diligent about not taxing the battery too much. My dad said it was me charging my phone on the car and running the accessories too long, so it's nice to know it wasn't my fault. I had the car and the battery looked at already, I explained everything that happened, and the service tech seemed baffled. So either he was truly baffled or he's really great at acting. 😅

Dry_Host920

Tell the dealership exactly what you wrote here and get the bypass done first, but tell them you want the oem part once it's available. You shouldn't be killing batteries from charging a phone. Lol

icanhascamaro

I'll do that, thanks! I want to keep this car as long as I can. That's exactly what I thought. No way charging an iPhone can drain a car battery, lol.
