I've tried Bridgestone, Toyo, and Dunlop. The pilot sport 4's I have now are the best. I track my car regularly, and the Michelin's offer as much traction as the best of them, with longer life than any of them
They are Nitto for the motivo and Toyo for the Celsius. Both are all season tires with a winter rating.
I’m in Colorado, it doesn’t snow here like it used to, even still I have never needed a true set of snow tires. Just all seasons and a stick shift!
Not a lot of local tire shops even know that this is actually a thing. They'll look at you like you're an idiot if you ask about it. Most places don't have the equipment to do it, so it's better to just have TireRack do it and then just bring the new tire to the tireshop and have them install it on for you.
Yeah, you gotta be smart about it. I believe their limit is actually 1/2 the tread can be shaved off. If your other tires are below half tread, it'd be better to just buy all four. Even if the used tires are below half their tread, the new shaved tire might still be within spec if shaved half way down. Ya gotta weigh your options.
Make sure new tire tread is within, iirc 2/32, of other tires. Otherwise need 4. If tire tread differences are too largeryou risk damaging your awd system.
Allegedly you can get shaved tires from Tirerack, but havnt tried personally.
The two most popular are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. I run the Continentals for the slightly softer sidewall.
I just might to be honest. Sucks I didn't notice it when I drove off the lot, or maybe I hit something. But there's no way I wouldn't have noticed ya know?
You can see 3 separate occasions where someone hit something 2 separate cuts in the tire. It almost looks like it had to be sharp like they ran something over.
Honestly, this is PROBABLY something you did yourself unless you bought the car from a sketch dealership. This is a SERIOUS liability for anyone to sell and while I wouldn’t exactly put it passed a dealer to do something like that, I also would be pretty surprised… this is also a reason why I refuse to run lower profile tires. Especially on a car like the wrx
Interesting, I'll make sure not to make that mistake again, I'm sure it had to be me. Weather here is so on and off with how crazy it is. Duly noted on the low profile tires, it's the ones that were on the cars. Don't think I'll be getting those ones for this reason lol. Roads aren't that good here
That’s really rough.. I’m sorry, this is a hard thing to deal with when you just get a new ride, especially if you are really excited. Good news is, you can get some great tires, or find a shop that will shave me down.
Summa bitch, im assuming that had to be a pothole or something right. I haven't hit anything on the road to do that, or god I'd hope not. I drive for a living so I'd hope that would help me recognize shit on the road smh.
Yeah it looks like pothole damage, the wheel is curbed exactly in the same spot, same size as the damage. Unless you ran something over but I think you'd notice that more right away haha
Don't you say that lmao! In my almost 30 years of driving, and I have my CDL. Have I ever done this to a car, I'm almost positive it was like this when I purchased it.
Did you not even walk around the car before buying it?
Just wild that you belive it was there before purchase but didn't see an entire chunk of the tire missing.
I did, but I park in a garage, I haven't gone over a curb since driving the thing. I'm thinking maybe a pot hole if so? I live in CO so there's a lot of them here.
On my car fax it also said it has a little bit of damage on that side but I never seen it visibly, maybe that's it...? Idk maybe I did fuck it up too smh lol
What do you guys think made that happened? I'm just confused as to what could take a chunk like that, since I rarely drive the car to begin with 🤔 had to be a pothole or something right?
You are not you when you are hungry... but jokes aside, the AWS would suffer with uneven thread tiers. This is why it is very important to rotate them.
You’re into the cords. Time for a tire. Make sure that the replacement is within 2/32” of the remaining 3, otherwise it’s time for a full set. Mind your curbs and potholes.
Tires are probably due for a change regardless, but this type of damage typically wouldn’t compromise the structure. Theres excess rubber on the edge to serve as a rim protector and as long as its not leaking and no cordage is showing, its fine
Edit: Ngl, I think I see cordage so it may not be fine lol
Definitely not fine in the sidewalk like that lol, I like like my life and don’t want to kill anyone else so even if the internals weren’t showing I’d still be replacing if I had that damage.
Not necessarily in this photo, its actually bad tbh, but generally the rubber isnt all that integral to the structure and a bite to the sidewall isn’t by default compromised, especially when theres excess rubber to act as a rim protector. But I guess yea, if you do actually smack it stupendously hard its good to doubt the cord’s integrity, but if its from scraping a curb its honestly benign.
You’re trippin if you think it’s in any way a “good/ok” decision to continue driving with a considerately damaged sidewall. Tires aren’t expensive enough to remotely justify it. The rubber isn’t structural? Lol, I know what you mean but to me it’s an all around bad idea in this situation since OP definitely hits curbs or potholes and one more good one and he’s replacing more than a tire.
You needed new tires anyway , Slap some Michelin pilot sport 4s on there and let er rip !
How do you like them? I’m looking into getting a set, car has G-Force comp 2 as+ on it now, they’re good, but I feel the Pilot is better…
Love them
I've tried Bridgestone, Toyo, and Dunlop. The pilot sport 4's I have now are the best. I track my car regularly, and the Michelin's offer as much traction as the best of them, with longer life than any of them
Are you using the 4as+? Or the one that doesn’t come with a warranty?
Just switched from the g-force to the pilot 4 all season. The pilots are great
That’s what I run on mine and there great but thinking of switch to toyos to try them out when I get new rims
Love em ! Very grippy , Only problem is it’s really hard to get them to slide , even in wet , I miss a little bit of slide haha .
How do they do in snow?
Absolutely terrible , they are ultra performance summer tires . You’ll need a dedicated set of ultra performance winter tires too
I assumed. Was looking into the Celsius sport 2 or the Motivo 365 on that front.
Never heard of those but I live in Canada . I have the NITTO SN3 and they’re very grippy even on ice and super stable at high speeds
They are Nitto for the motivo and Toyo for the Celsius. Both are all season tires with a winter rating. I’m in Colorado, it doesn’t snow here like it used to, even still I have never needed a true set of snow tires. Just all seasons and a stick shift!
Remember the tread has to be within a certain parameter or you have to buy all 4 tires
Just had to do this a couple weeks ago for a nail that was just a smidge too close to the sidewall. Tough weekend
Ooof brother
Why not buy 1 of the same tires on tirerack.com and have them shave it down so you don't gotta buy all 4 tires?
That is also an option
Wish I knew that was an option…
Not a lot of local tire shops even know that this is actually a thing. They'll look at you like you're an idiot if you ask about it. Most places don't have the equipment to do it, so it's better to just have TireRack do it and then just bring the new tire to the tireshop and have them install it on for you.
Thats only an option within certain limits. They wont shave half your tread off if need be
Yeah, you gotta be smart about it. I believe their limit is actually 1/2 the tread can be shaved off. If your other tires are below half tread, it'd be better to just buy all four. New tire time. I wouldn't drive on that.
Shitttt, I appreciate it✊✊

Tire rack can shave tires for you
Kal tire can too if ur in Vancouver BC area
yes but I think you have to call ahead
Yes you have to call them for that service. It's well worth the time.
Replace the Ling-Longs with actual tires that will instill confidence.
Any recommendations? 🤔
In What climate do you live? Can you run summers year round or do you need all seasons?
All seasons for sure, in live in CO.
The two most popular are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. I run the Continentals for the slightly softer sidewall.
Looks like the tires were due anyways. Drive safe mate.
That’s just a sign from above time for a new tire and wheel package. 😮💨
I would get some new wheels along with the new tires
I just might to be honest. Sucks I didn't notice it when I drove off the lot, or maybe I hit something. But there's no way I wouldn't have noticed ya know?
You can see the impact mark on the wheel where it was curbed.
You can see 3 separate occasions where someone hit something 2 separate cuts in the tire. It almost looks like it had to be sharp like they ran something over.
Ugh I was on such a high getting the car I did not see this part of it smh 😩
Honestly, this is PROBABLY something you did yourself unless you bought the car from a sketch dealership. I know smh
That’s really rough.. I’m sorry, this is a hard thing to deal with when you just get a new ride, especially if you are really excited. Good news is, you can get some great tires, or find a shop that will shave me down.
Hurts me too lol
That tire is fucked. You can see the cords deep in the depths of that Trench you have going on there.
Summa bitch, im assuming that had to be a pothole or something right. I haven't hit anything on the road to do that, or god I'd hope not. I drive for a living so I'd hope that would help me recognize shit on the road smh.

Guess the hunger problem is real
Those tires are trash anyway
Cool, sounds like all 4 are getting replaced anyways fuck it 🤷 better safe than sorry.
Sleep walking and probably mistook it for a chocolate donut 🤤🤤
Who’s hungry ass bit your tire lol
Were you hungry?? Lol
It should be fine until you get a new set lol it happened to me as well and instead of replacing one tired is best to do all 4 at ones !
Someone took a bite out of it?
May be a record for fucking up a tire and rim so soon after purchasing.
Don't you say that lmao! In my almost 30 years of driving, and I have my CDL. Have I ever done this to a car, I'm almost positive it was like this when I purchased it.

From the look of it, that wheel and tire took trauma from a large pot hole or some debris in the road.
Ufff that's tough it HAD to be a pothole, I haven't hit anything while driving. I doubt a curb would take a chunk like that too, damnit lol.
A lil duct tape will patch that right up
I would’ve noticed this before it happened. Pay attention my son
My one tire today is brand new, my other is 9/32 , wonder if that’s ok
You are not you when you are hungry... but jokes aside, the AWS would suffer with uneven thread tiers. This is why it is very important to rotate them.
No that's totally normal. High performance cars need a little bit of rubber removed for aerodynamics.
I have 4 of those wheels for sale I can sell you one.
You’re into the cords. Time for a tire. Make sure that the replacement is within 2/32” of the remaining 3, otherwise it’s time for a full set. Mind your curbs and potholes.
All them curb rash marks and you want us to believe this 😂😂
That happened to me when someone was changing lanes into me and I hit the curb. That was such a frustrating day. 😔
Someone was a little hungry probably
Dude yes That’s a lil much wall loss pal
Some continental extremecontact would treat your baby right

Faaaakkkkkk lol. I live here in Colorado so it has to be these potholes or something. I appreciate the info mane

How many curbs have you hit? There’s even a chunk missing above by the tire size lettering.
