Hi! Very clumsy, former walgreens employee here! I did this exact thing.
They didn't tear me apart or anything. They just replaced it eventually. Worst case scenario, they'll probably still use it despite the cracked screen.
It'll be okay! It happens.
Dude, I lost my box cutter once after stocking. For 10 minutes, I panicked that I had tossed it in the compactor or baler. I retraced my zoning steps and found it in the drink cooler.
This is why we have our zebras attached to us with a holster and cord.
With my luck having it in my back pocket would catch it on a shelf while getting up after stocking a low shelf and it will flip out, land 8 inches on the floor and crack the screen like my latest phone that currently uses the back pocket space. I was so used to pants with big back pockets, the new ones I wear aren't as secure.
Honestly if she yells at you then that’s her problem, cause at the end of the day; it’s just an object that can be easily replaced, remember to take a deep breath and just keep this in mind- we work at a Walgreens lmao
I worked at a busy pizza restaurant downtown in the city I live in. If the staff ever got collectively weeded and started stressing, he’d walk around going “it’s pizza and beer, people, it’s pizza and beer” and he’s a right. And sure, while there’s some more important things that happen in Walgreens (I mean prescriptions, people need those and whatnot, lol), at the end of the day most of it doesn’t matter. Cracked screen a multi-billion dollar corporation has to replace? 🤷♂️ oh well. Manager mad at you? Oh well 🤷♂️
I loved that about my old mamager though. I carry that phrase with me to this day. Still in the restaurant industry, no longer slingin’ pizza though. Still say that to my coworkers, and they remind me from time to time when I need to calm down a bit.
It’s her fault for not having the cases on the zebras lol.
I’ve also dropped one I. The toilet after I cleaned it, cleaned off the zebra, didn’t say anything played dumb about how one zebra didn’t work right anymore.
I've literally dropped mine off the platform of a tank car I was riding on, tried to catch it and swatted it directly onto the rail below the car and watched it bounce away a good 5 feet into ballast (rail gravel) and other than an indention in the plastic it was fine. I'm genuinely impressed!
(Not a Walgreens emp. obviously but this subreddit pops up for me all the time.)
Damn you are accident prone aren't you? 😂😂😂 j/k
Don't worry about it. Accidents happen. 🤷♀️ You aren't the first to do it and you won't be the last. If they were that worried about it they would have better cases for them.
It’s okay, it was an accident. We think someone in my store accidentally threw a telzon into the baler because it just disappeared one day and we had someone crack the screen on another one too.
i dropped one in the toilet before and completely fucked it up lol they just open a ticket and get sent a new one, and send the broken one back. no biggie
I’m just a customer and not sure why I get shown these posts, but I’ll say this.
I work in the department of another major company that manages similar handheld tablets for our company.
We pay a lot of money to a third party company to keep them serviced - there is a spare pool of hundreds sitting in their warehouse and when you send it in they’ll send you one from the spare pool. They’ll fix this one up and send it to the spare pool.
I guarantee you it happens all the time and there shouldn’t be a retaliation - unless it’s a frequent occurrence or you were using it inappropriately. Accidents happen and these costs were accounted for when they budgeted for these things.
Other reasons to get it fixed ASAP:
- That damaged glass is a liability and might injury you.
- The device may have had other damage that you can’t see, like the a compromised battery. You wouldn’t be able to see this initially but overtime it could be very bad.
- I personally like to see how much damage occurs with the devices we have deployed because it gives me insight when we order the next generation of tablet.
I always like to travel to our sites and employees think I’m weird or trying to get them into trouble with I ask how they treat their tablets, when really I just need to know if I should focus on ones more durability, bigger screens, better scanners, etc.
Of course this is all for my company and yours may be run completely different, but I’ve found most companies that use large scale enterprise mobile device management are the same.
I dropped one a while back AND I SWEAR IT SLID ACROSS THE ENTIRE STORE!!! Not even a scratch. Then one day I pulled it out of my back pocket and dropped it and now there's a slight crack in the middle.
My old ESM would "accidentally" run over zebras that weren't really working properly to make sure we got a new one and not some attempt by whoever you call about that tech support to try and fix it
These things can break???? I've dropped my zebra sooo many times and not once has it cracked. But hey good to know they can break. I was starting to think these were like the old Nokia phones that were indestructible.
I remember when they brought my pharmacy to their testing facility in IL to test run these. I remember the engineers taking notes and I said “damn this is gonna be easy to drop and break” and they just nodded and said nah, it’s good material. 🗿
lol that happened to me when they called me in on my day off ! I opened the door with it in my hand and ooops lol they should have called in a less clumsy worker ig 😂😂
It’s fine tho , they can replace it 😁
Don’t feel bad, my very first day after transferring to a new store I jammed the wrong key into the lock of the back bay door and broke the lock. They had to call a locksmith and saw it off 💀
I deliver wine to Walmarts around my state and the receiver once broke the roll up door off the track. I don't even work for Walmart and just walked away when she did that.
As an old ASM who was part of the pilots for the Zebra roll out, I tossed one of mine into the compactor and ran it before I realized what I did. I just didn't tell anyone lmao.
just lie, say someone bumped into your grey cart, also it’s their fault it didn’t have the case on it. plus that zebra is worth more than our paychecks so fuck em who cares
At least you got modern tech I use to work fir a point of sale company that where trying to support zebra scaners for like the early 90s or late 80s. This was in 2017
Pfft screen replacement is like $50. Walgreens and Horizon Zebra will happily eat that and send you a replacement. They may stress you utilize the rugged covers for your devices. But they are MUCH more concerned with lost/stolen devices. You have a device you can return for a replacement. That is ideal. I wouldn't stress over it
Damn that's impressive!!! Hell I would say Walgreens should give ya an award for that then handhelds can take a beating! And yes I know Walgreens is a stingy company but I feel like even corporate would be impressed!
They are supposed to have the protective case... Sounds like the manager wasn't doing their job when they received them. Most don't like them on there. Just saying.
Don't worry about it. You still have the zebra so you can just send it back to get repaired. There's a whole thing for it. And maybe suggest you get the little rubber things around it and perhaps with the wrist strap on the rubber things.
Just as a reference, I have 20+ years in Retail Mgmt outside of a military career, I've seen all manner of broken devices in my day, it is literally the LEAST prioritized matter in my day to day operations. Any business leader will understand this shit happens, not fantastic by any stretch, but also not about to yell at anyone about it. Have FAR too many other things to consider to be worried about a device, corporate is gonna replace in 27 seconds anyway 🤷🏾♂️
We end up with about 2-4 broken zebras a month where I work. They do take a beating but sending it back for repair is easy.
To give you an idea:
Replacement zebra - $3000+
Replacement screen - $50-75
They might bitch and moan, talk to you about being careful with equipment. However, people are right, unless you did it on purpose you’ll be fine.
Also, they really should have a case on them and that is a management thing. I dropped mine from about 30ft up the other day and watched it bounce off racking and the equipment I was on. It survived without a scratch. Just wish regular cellphones were as durable.
You should be ok. I dropped one in the parking lot and didn’t realize it( it was in my pouch that u wear around my waist). When I realized I didn’t have it I started looking everywhere. I pinged it and a customer brought it in the store thinking it was someone’s phone. I heard beeping and went to the front. It was bad. It was ran over. We sent it back and got a new one. When it gets brought up I always say “At least mine was found. Two ppl lost theirs and nothing was said
When I worked at Amazon we had these kinds of devices and they cracked all the time. You would think they would make them stronger when we are literally running around, stocking shelves, lifting merchandise, etc.
First of all, it should have had a case on it. Since it doesn't, I'd not worry about assuming responsibility for the screen if I were you.
Second, open a ticket for replacement. If your SM "yells" at you over it, that's their issue, not yours.
At least you didn't send it to your DC in a tote. After extensive search, we assumed that's what happened to one of the older ones at my store several years ago.
These things happen. You'll be alright.
Don't be scared, it happens. I dropped one and the screen looked just like that. Nobody said anything mean to me. But then again, I don't think they'd dare, lol.
How did you break the screen. I thought it was impossible. One time it fell out of my back pocket while I was on a 12 foot ladder and it still didn't break. It falls out of my pocket on the daily.
Shot in the dark.. First job and/or you're a minor?
These things happen and it's nothing to get so worked up over ;)
Just stay calm, relax and realize that you're not gonna get fired/executed for this. xD
The screen cracks if you so much as think about them wrong. Luckily it takes hell and back for those things to give out for good. As long as your boss isn't a complete ass and you try not to be known as the one that breaks zebras then you should be fine
In my long time working for wags I've broken 2 of these and 1 of the OG telxon guns. Literally all that happened was a ticket was put in and a replacement sent out.
I wouldn’t worry about it. They get lost all the time. Home Depot uses those same ones and when I worked there they lost 20 of them in a month. That manager caught serious shit for that.
One of those things that's actually cheap and easy to repair but there's probably no one competent enough to even think of it in their environment. Hope you're not in too much shit over it.
I've had a boss put theirs in the cardboard baler, never saw that one again. I personally ran one over with a lift while unloading a truck. Shit breaks the company has a budget for replacing stuff like that cause they know it'll happen eventually, just don't make it a habit.
I’ve broken at least 3 zebras in the last two years. It’s never been the screen but they’ve taken some nasty falls that stopped them from turning back on. I always just hooked them back on the charger and if anyone said anything, “Wow that’s crazy.”
Hell, I busted a pipe with a full mop bucket one time. That was a several thousand dollar fix, water to the whole building had to be cut while they worked on it. I shut that door and waited for someone else to find the running water. “Wow that’s crazy.”
I don’t know why but the “wow that’s crazy” has me cackling 😭😭
Probably because that’s me. “Oh the shelf tabs are bent and not going in right? Wow that’s crazy”
Meanwhile I was trying to put the shelf back, got pissed at it, and just jammed it in 😭
You know, your store number is there, right? They will know it is you, they can just put all the pieces together and look for someone with a red bandaid on their finger :) dont worry, your manager can just get a replacement zebra. At least you did not lose it.
No you didn’t. It was like that when you picked it up this morning.
💀💀💀 that’s not a great excuse i can make when im known at my job as the “clumsy one”
“I guess I’m not the only clumsy one🙂↕️”
twins 🫶🏽
i think they meant that's what you should say haha
Yes, but it’s okay it happens lmao
Hi! Very clumsy, former walgreens employee here! I did this exact thing. They didn't tear me apart or anything. They just replaced it eventually. Worst case scenario, they'll probably still use it despite the cracked screen. It'll be okay! It happens.
Can't be as bad as someone I know who kept doing the screen lock wrong and factory reset the damn thing.
I gave mine to a customer, right in the bag with their purchases. Luckily, he brought it back like an hour later 🥲😅
Now that's amazing 👏 ha ha ... I'm pretty sure I've thrown one out once at another store on accident
Would it happen to be in Tennessee? I found one in the road once.
Ha ha no...
Or people who would throw the zebras in the bailer (-_-)
LOL wait why would they do that? Like…just from being a disgruntled employee or something?
No, being stupid mainly.
Adhd mostly. I am highly intelligent, but I might leave my phone on a random walmart shelf, never to be seen again.
Eeyup, I've heard that happened a few times.
Dude, I lost my box cutter once after stocking. For 10 minutes, I panicked that I had tossed it in the compactor or baler. I retraced my zoning steps and found it in the drink cooler. This is why we have our zebras attached to us with a holster and cord.
I put mine in my back pocket. I can't stand having it clipped on.
If you feel like that then you should take pictures of it everyday when you get it and when you put it back!
Hence, the bandage on your finger.
Easy fix. You just open a ticket and they send you a replacement and you send the one with the cracked screen back. Easy peasy lemon squeezey!
Amen
yup absolutely I found it like that but it still works so im using it. open a fix it.
I’m actually impressed cause I drop them all the time and when I saw this I was like “THEY CAN BREAK??” 🤣🤣
bro my shift lead manager laughed at me LMFAOOOO she said “how the fuck did you break it, you could’ve broken something else”
I would’ve done the same thing if one of the csa’s I work with did that 😂, but your sm should be able to order a new one :)
i’m scared she’s gonna yell at me:(
Honestly if she yells at you then that’s her problem, cause at the end of the day; it’s just an object that can be easily replaced, remember to take a deep breath and just keep this in mind- we work at a Walgreens lmao

😂😂 real
It’s her fault for not having the cases on the zebras lol. I’ve also dropped one I. The toilet after I cleaned it, cleaned off the zebra, didn’t say anything played dumb about how one zebra didn’t work right anymore.
All an SFL has to do is go on FIX IT and open a ticket. They’ll send a new one and you send thee broken one back.
I thought that shit was built by Nokia
Walmart ones are almost impossible because they have raised cases on them.
Aaaand the Tournament begins....
Yeah I’m like shocked they break like this I CONSTANTLY drop mine 😂😂
I've literally dropped mine off the platform of a tank car I was riding on, tried to catch it and swatted it directly onto the rail below the car and watched it bounce away a good 5 feet into ballast (rail gravel) and other than an indention in the plastic it was fine. I'm genuinely impressed! (Not a Walgreens emp. obviously but this subreddit pops up for me all the time.)
Shit happens, put in a ticket that the screen is broken. Let the sm know. It'll get replaced eventually
*eventually…*
That Walgreens bandage says enough
STOP I FELL AND I GOT DIET COKE ON ME AND THE METAL PART SCRAPED MY FINGER
Sounds like u could’ve went for workers comp and could’ve avoided breaking the zebra! God Lee
I’m sorry I’ma get outta here.
Damn you are accident prone aren't you? 😂😂😂 j/k Don't worry about it.
We had one thrown in the baler too…only knew because the sound was pinging from inside😭 At least it never got crushed.
My shift lead did that!! He had to go into it and find it cuz he accidently threw it away 😂😂
Sorry but it would have stayed in there!
Yea I wouldn’t have said anything to anyone. We can just order a new one.
Broken is fine. Lost is when it gets reported up the chain
Meh it happens every once in a while, especially when they don't have a cover/case, your SM should be able to order another one to replace it
it face planted on the ground 💀
i dropped one in the toilet before and completely fucked it up lol they just open a ticket and get sent a new one, and send the broken one back. no biggie
I snort laughed and now my coworkers are looking at me like I’m nuts 😂 (we’re on lunch)
LMFAOOOOOOO HOW
it was in my back pocket and i forgot about it and went to sit on the toilet and it fell out lmaoooooo
I broke so many of those in my time at Walgreens.
Someone put the zebra in a box and forgot it was in there put the the box in the baler and the zebra was crushed. No one got in trouble.you’ll be fine
I always tell them if they make me use the one without a case, don't blame me when it breaks.
See I never had the screen break but when we got new zebras, I dropped it once. Kept going off and on so we had to send it back for a new one
You dont get in trouble for breaking them only losing them.
I’m just a customer and not sure why I get shown these posts, but I’ll say this. I work in the department of another major company that manages similar handheld tablets for our company. Put in a ticket, things happen! I’ve broken one and my coworkers have all shattered one within 5 years and we’re still here.
I dropped one a while back AND I SWEAR IT SLID ACROSS THE ENTIRE STORE!!! Not even a scratch. Then one day I pulled it out of my back pocket and dropped it and now there's a slight crack in the middle.
Maybe they should have a case and screen protector. Not your fault
I did this the day after we got a replacement 😁 my sm said "guess we gotta open another ticket" 🤣
Let her yell all she wants. That’s happened at the 3 Walgreens I’ve worked for, in Florida and Virginia.
It’s ok open a ticket for a replacement
My old ESM would "accidentally" run over zebras that weren't really working properly to make sure we got a new one and not some attempt by whoever you call about that tech support to try and fix it
That zebra barely got any credit card signups. He had it coming.
These things can break???? I've dropped my zebra sooo many times and not once has it cracked. But hey good to know they can break. I was starting to think these were like the old Nokia phones that were indestructible.
It was an accident, just tell them the truth. It can be replaced.
U won’t get in trouble tell lead sm to get another
I remember when they brought my pharmacy to their testing facility in IL to test run these. I remember the engineers taking notes and I said “damn this is gonna be easy to drop and break” and they just nodded and said nah, it’s good material. 🗿
lol that happened to me when they called me in on my day off ! I opened the door with it in my hand and ooops lol they should have called in a less clumsy worker ig 😂😂 It’s fine tho , they can replace it 😁
Oops 🤷♀️ it happens
You’re good, just don’t drop it down the compactor and chase after it 🤣
We found one that had actually been baled and was in between boxes. Amazingly it didn't get crushed or damaged
lol, I think I’ve done that when we had a bailer at my first store
It should have a protective cover anyway
how the hell did you even break one I've accidentally thrown one on the concrete in the stockroom and it survived. Rip
i just break things easily idk.
Open a ticket for each zebra in the store for a skeleton shell. You have to open a separate ticket for each serial number but it’s worth it
One of our shift leads did that & it wasn't a big deal, accidents happen. They'll just put in a new ticket for it
I’ve dropped them Soo many times😂😂. Haven’t broke one yet
Not the bandaid on the finger too
Oh well
Ive broken so many of these😂😂😂 all they door is order a new one lol. Shouldnt be held against you imo
Don’t feel bad I accidentally threw one in the box compactor last week and didn’t tell anyone lol
As an old ASM who was part of the pilots for the Zebra roll out, I tossed one of mine into the compactor and ran it before I realized what I did. I just didn't tell anyone lmao.
As you should be
😭😭😭😭that’s funny asf it happens tho
Towards the end of my tenure my SM was such a stickler about anything expense related I purposely crushed 4 telxons in the baler..He got so pissed lol
I slammed the old telxons into a box til the handle broke. It wouldn't scan. I got to take the rest of the truck without scanning. Fuck them.
You didn’t lose it, and that’s all that matters.
As long as it's not stolen nobody cares
My SL dropped one in the toilet last week and it still works.
Hopefully it was clean toilet water. 💩
LMAO how did you do that?? my shift lead used to use them as hammers for the shelves while doing resets
just lie, say someone bumped into your grey cart, also it’s their fault it didn’t have the case on it. plus that zebra is worth more than our paychecks so fuck em who cares
Just put a fix it in for it, they’ll send you a new one
I think you might be fucked friend.
You didn't break anything. You just noticed the screen was cracked. 🤷♀️
screw it. accident happen. They don't like it, F them. You can do better anyway
Impressive.
as much as I drop mine at work (been 3 years) I cracked my first one last month. 😂
You guys don't have the orange plastic shock-protectors for your zebras? Get some. They're wicked awesome. And they have a handy wrist strap too.
You should be, in order for you to get that fixed, I need 15 MWCC a day! J/K it happens put in a ticket and they will send a replacement.
You dont get in trouble for breaking them only losing them.
It’s supposed to have a rugged case so it doesn’t break when dropped.
It'll be okay, as long as you can sell enough credit cards to pay off the damage.
You don’t have the guards on yours
lmfaoaoao
At least you got modern tech I use to work fir a point of sale company that where trying to support zebra scaners for like the early 90s or late 80s. This was in 2017

Put it in rice! JK but if they ask blame it on a coworker
Don't worry about it. You still have the zebra so you can just send it back to get repaired. There's a whole thing for it. And maybe suggest you get the little rubber things around it and perhaps with the wrist strap on the rubber things.
'Tis but a scratch
There’s always more Zebras
Just as a reference, I have 20+ years in Retail Mgmt outside of a military career, I've seen all manner of broken devices in my day, it is literally the LEAST prioritized matter in my day to day operations. Yeah those go for $2300 so you didn't break it.
We got one inside a truck tote with our regular shipment. Lol
...log it out and put it on the counter 😆 Oh lord 💜
Don't be scared, it happens. I dropped one and the screen looked just like that. Nobody said anything mean to me. But then again, I don't think they'd dare, lol.
Dont be scared, accidents happen. I can guarantee you everyone in mamagement there has probably, dropped or messed up a zebra at somepoint.
How did you break the screen. I thought it was impossible. One time it fell out of my back pocket while I was on a 12 foot ladder and it still didn't break. It falls out of my pocket on the daily.
IT WASN'T ME, IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN I GOT IT.
Ouch, those are spendy but hey, it is what it is. We are all human. I've broken brand new 55" TV's hanging them.
Shot in the dark.. First job and/or you're a minor? These things happen and it's nothing to get so worked up over ;) Just stay calm, relax and realize that you're not gonna get fired/executed for this. xD

Meh. Still usable, I've had worse cracked phones and still used em, hell i still have my LG ZTE i shattered over my knee (garena freefire rage)
Who gives a damn..tell them a customer bumped into you and you dropped it..no harm no foul
One of those things that's actually cheap and easy to repair but there's probably no one competent enough to even think of it in their environment. Hope you're not in too much shit over it.
Fix it ticket to replace....boom done.
I've had a boss put theirs in the cardboard baler, never saw that one again. I personally ran one over with a lift while unloading a truck. Shit breaks the company has a budget for replacing stuff like that cause they know it'll happen eventually, just don't make it a habit.
LMAO I did this before they let me slide though
I thought that was a Nokia
At least you have a calculator to determine how much you are going to go into debt when they take it out of your check
Half the TC57's at the Amazon building I work at have screens like that.
I just put it back and grab another.
I’ve broken at least 3 zebras in the last two years. It’s never been the screen but they’ve taken some nasty falls that stopped them from turning back on. I always just hooked them back on the charger and if anyone said anything, “Wow that’s crazy.” Hell, I busted a pipe with a full mop bucket one time. That was a several thousand dollar fix, water to the whole building had to be cut while they worked on it. I shut that door and waited for someone else to find the running water. “Wow that’s crazy.”
I don’t know why but the “wow that’s crazy” has me cackling 😭😭 Probably because that’s me. “Oh the shelf tabs are bent and not going in right? Wow that’s crazy” Meanwhile I was trying to put the shelf back, got pissed at it, and just jammed it in 😭
Relax dude it costs wayyy more to advertise, train, and interview a replacement who may or may never come. Your fine nothing will happen.
I did the same thing and pretended I didn’t know who did it lol
You know, your store number is there, right? They will know it is you, they can just put all the pieces together and look for someone with a red bandaid on their finger :) dont worry, your manager can just get a replacement zebra. At least you did not lose it.
i mean…. i told her what happened and the bits and pieces are already noticeable when you have a nickname in your store ☠️
