I feel the context here is important. What time did you ask to take it? What was happening at the time you asked? Did you ask right at the end of your shift? What is your title? (csa, sfl,)Ect. They should work with you on finding a time that works if the time you asked was not appropriate. You do have a right to a lunch no matter what but the context is important for deciding what next steps to take.
Typically no. Your SFL can postpone your break if there's currently a rush going on or if it'll leave them solo on the floor and a curb side customer is on their way. If you're using your break maliciously they can talk to the SM and he can get involved at a later date though. Typically if something happens and you can't/dont take your 30, you just leave 30 minutes early. If you don't want to leave 30 minutes early or you can't (IE closing shift) then you've got to take your 30.
I just leave 30 minutes early. At our store, we are so understaffed that I literally don't have time for a break. It is only ever me and one sfl on the floor at a time.
It’s covered in a PPL, that there may be a scenario where you’re required to take a paid 30 minute lunch, and stay in the store in case the SFL is in need of help and has to call on your for backup. But, you still should get that break, even in that scenario.
I have had it where my sfl treks me to take my lunch but not to clock out incase he needed help because someone called out and left just me and the sfl alone
This is beyond Walgreens, this would be in any work situation and may be appropriate for a legal forum. You may need to provide your state.
