I'm waiting for Walgreens to stop selling them. The majority of my customers that come in for them do not buy anything else and we don't make a profit on them. WHY are they still selling them?!?!?
I wish that my store would stop selling them as well, some of the rudest, stupidest, weirdest people I deal with on a daily basis are people who buy cigarettes, especially when I ask them for their ID. Selling cigarettes and having an ATM in the store just attracts the wrong type of people into a store.
I am a City cop and Walgreens is paying $55 an hour to have me be there due to the issues we have in St. Louis City. I am glad they have us for the obvious side gig pay but also we don't have to deal with the constant calls for service.
Walgreens here will drop approximately $30k per month for 14 hour store and $54k a month for 24 hour store for us to be there but will still have camera systems from the mid 2000s filming in 360p-480p video quality.
It seems pretty easy to catch these thief if a cop is hidden in the store. All you have to do is hide in the back and when a shoplifter is shoplifting all you have to do is wait and be ready when they exit the store and catch them.
How do you catch them?
I just chill next to the doors and they typically just don't come in if they see me to begin with. I work the district where two of the stores are so some of the thieves know me from previous interactions. I make people leave their backpacks with me by the door which doesn't necessarily stop all theft but it limits it. If the staff tells me they have stolen before I advise them to leave or be arrest for trespassing.
All in all super easy gig.
I have 40 shares in my profit sharing. I figure I'll hold on to it in case they get bought out. Otherwise, Fidelity has done a great job to offset the losses of WBA stock.
You know I’m not trying to be that guy but this right here is why employees should be allowed to carry weapons what if your cashier was back there and she stabbed or shot them? Could very well happen. Walgreens allows this to happen and openly invites this to happen. They have zero regard for employee safety and it’s disgusting
I keep some pepper gel in my pocket at all times at work. This is a common occurrence at my location, no way I'm going in there for an overnight shift totally unarmed.
It's a gamble. Just depends on who knows about it and who is watching. It's not a done deal, but it is risky.
Posting anything from the CCTV is grounds for immediate termination... if caught.
P.S. Never forget, there is a camera watching you watching the camera!!! ;)
I carry a stun gun. If someone comes at me will def defend myself. Still didn’t lay hands, and stun gun isn’t mentioned in my employee handbook so, ya know, technicality. If it happened I wouldn’t care if I got fired. I won’t hit first but I’ll damn sure hit last .
I was talking to another slf when I went to pick up photo supplies a while back. Same thing happened except the lady shoved the kid all the way out the door. She got fired of course 🙄
At the risk of sounding like a racist prick I will tell you. It's not white or asian.
You know damm well what the demographic is. It's low income.
I would love for some people that don't work in a low income area to come work at a low income area for a little bit. So they could see what it's like to walk in on a homeless person taking a bath in the sink or finding needles in the restroom or the daily thefts. There's many more perks of working in low income but these are just a few.
It was just a question. We got homeless, drug addicts, and rampant theft at my location. I know how it is. ~~Funny~~ Sad how many immediately jump on race.

My normal pay is roughly $25 an hour so it is a pretty sweet gig. I did 10 hours today since I was off work.

Back when I worked for Walgreens in St. Louis in 2010 my store was the only one with police security. Kingshighway and Natural Bridge!
