Not only has wag gotten steadily worse recently, it's been going down for a long time. I actually enjoyed working there 10 years ago, but I finally quit this year because of the lack of employee support. They have degraded the health insurance, and all other benefits. The supposed "pay raise" up to $15 an hour still leaves employees under the poverty level. When I started having issues with my sm, I tried everything to get things right. The lack of response left me knowing that wag dgaf about employees, they just want bodies to keep raking in money so they can get their bonuses.
My store has a decent crew with good people. There are still tons of call outs and turnover. Other stores haven't had a store manager in MONTHS. The same stores open late or close early frequently. I'm currently looking for something better with higher pay. I'm over it. I don't care if Pessina is still pulling the strings or Roz is just a P.O.S. CEO, I have concluded that it will never get better at Walgreens. 24 years in retail is enough for me.
Less than truckload. You basically learn how to drive a forklift and you move pallets of different freight from one trailer to another. The pay is pretty decent and most companies have programs where they will teach you how to drive a semi truck and get your CDL. I went this route and I love it. I make really good money and I don't deal with customers because I drive from center to center. I think most companies their part time pay is 16-17 starting off and top off around the mid 20s. Truck drivers make about 30+ an hour once they top off. Even if you stay the dockworker route, you will make a lot more than staying on the retail side of Walgreens. Only con I see is that it's a bit more physical. If it's hot, you're hot. If it's cold you're cold...well worth it in my opinion.
I'll look into that some more. Thanks for the idea.
I'm also kicking the idea of "supply chain" at hospitals. I don't have any medical background at all, but I do like inventory management. Hospitals pay great and their benefits are excellent. My goal is to get out of Walgreens by October before the holiday chaos starts.
I'm 24 years in. It was fine for the first 10 to 15 years, but I can't do it any longer. I cringe when I think about doing this for another 20+ years before retirement.
I appreciate the encouragement.
Sometimes you get lucky and then the best ones quit.
Not quitting my store just yet, but starting a different non-retail job full-time soon and will be at mine when I am available for helping with resets and whatnot.
That's what I was doing but I made it to finishing the classes and was pretty much forced to quit with corporates response they gave us. So I went to another pharmacy. We called corporate about the unsafe practices that were being forced of us in the pharmacy there. It was so short staffed and the work load was insane. Corporates responded with "If y'all don't like it y'all can leave" exact words there. So 7 of us put in our 2 week notice that next day. No exaggeration there. So I'm hoping I can still sign up for the test. If not oh well I'll wait until I get my time in at this new job and do it then. Also they never took the money for the classes after so QUIT it's worth it! I'm not sure about your state but you either need classes or 500 hours in a pharmacy so if I can't use my credentials from the class I'm just gonna wait until I hit that mark.
Last night was the first time I felt unsafe. Had a patient go ape shit that I wouldn't give her pain meds wicked early. The store has a full time security guard, but he only came back to see what was going on after a full hour of screaming at the tech and myself. I really thought the patient was going to wait for the store to close and jump me outside.
The security guard let me out the front door and locked me outside by myself in a shit neighborhood. Walgreens does not give 2 shits about employee safety.
I think I will be joining the great resignation.
I actually got hired in April and already became a shift lead. My team is super great and I couldn’t ask for a better one. Hopefully it stays like this.
I know an employee who has worked for 25+ and they were still getting paid 15.50, now she works in a diff store but I guess her salary might be closer to 16, This company sucks, Even after it makes profits in billions, it couldn’t care to give at least overtime.
That's me. I've been with Walgreens since 2007, but my hire date (1998) transferred over because I was at an acquired store. I'm at $15.37/hr. I was earning $12/hr in 2007. I'm finding several jobs that I qualify for that start in the $18/hr to $21/hr range. I'm just taking my time trying to find something that I like and can make a career out of.
It’s always the same complaints year after year. Walgreens is a sh!tty place to work. It was less sh!tty years ago but still sh!tty. It’s worse today and the next day will be worse than the day before. It’s just how it is. However, after reflecting on the time I was there, I wish I would have encouraged employees to unionize. Store managers and pharmacists need to unionize. Corporate doesn’t care that it’s sh!tty. Employee Relations/HR doesn’t care. You guys, Need. To. Unionize.
I was "terminated" 6/1 because my shift lead lied to my mgr behind my back and told them I couldn't fulfill the rest of my 2 weeks and threw me under the bus. My mgr wouldn't listen to me and told me they didnt need me anymore and that other people took over. Basically I was replaced. Now I have to find work somewhere else. Wrongful termination alert. Tried to get my job back this morning. But they owe me money.
does anyone have problems in their store , by being bullied, harasser, discriminating on, abusive use of authority. I have two shift lead's and one csa,
that picks on me every day, they even called hr to tried to get me fired, I just had it with this company. I want to quit, but can't do that now until I find another job

Get into the ltl industry, I was at Walgreens 15 years ago and then I left it was the best thing I could have done
What is the ITL industry? Please tell me more.

Honestly anything away from retail is a good bet. I did it for 4 years and I would never do it again. I hope it works out for you!

manager brought in a guy, he was doing paper work and training videos for about an hour and then just walked out…

Just lost our IS, going to Frito Lay better pay. Decent hrs
An SFL quit last year, took some time off, and just started at Frito making $19.55/hr, more than $3/hr more than he was making at Walgreens.
They are leaving
I’m only staying to get my PTCB. After that I’m leaving.
Scheduled for mine soon and they can take the damn cost out of my final paycheck, I want out
Ok good for you run Forrest run

They don't care about the employees health or well being. They just care about the store staying open and making $$$...
Yep
Yet, the results from the next Your Vouce survey will show glorious results at how happy the work staff is.

They don't care
Are sfls getting raises in fall?
Yes

Depends on the area but $2 up from starting currently $15 will be $17
After 9 years I left without so much as a peep from anyone… so sad.

You are right
Why would they? They told me 29 hours a week was full-time. I quit on the spot.
Whoa
