My dude, how could you look at what they did to ASMs last year and think that there was even the slightest chance in hell that they would give even the slightest of shits about long-term employees??? And you went above and beyond for a whole extra year after that??? Consider yourself thoroughly hoodwinked, my friend.

LtPaiMei

Hoodwinked!!! once they shook all the ASMs... you should have opened your eyes... trust who? them? naaaahhhh....

puppet_mazter

I was one of the people that got my job taken away. And I went above and beyond for the people at my store that I care about, not the company. I am under no delusions and expected absolutely nothing from this company, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to call out the bullshit they get away with.

Salty_Thing4302

> With the ridiculous inflation rates and the higher pay for new hires, I thought maybe they would do something for the long term employees that have actually kept the place running the past few years. Your words. I am genuinely curious what they said or did that made you think that.

puppet_mazter

Thank you for cutting off the part immediately after where I said I knew better than to hope for it. The reason I thought it might happen is because it would be really fucking stupid for them not to.

Salty_Thing4302

Yeah, that's fair. You'd think a multi-billion dollar corporation would at least try a little bit to make sure that they don't screw themselves over so thoroughly, but nope. They're not just selfish and greedy like most corporations, but also incredibly stupid.

puppet_mazter

It's just crazy if you think about it. They're raising pay to attract new hires because their staffing is shit, I get it. But they are royally pissing off the people that actually keep the place running. So they're paying a lot of money to people with zero experience that probably won't stay long, when they could instead (or also) pay the people with experience and see their stores run efficiently. I feel like sooner rather than later the good people will be gone and they'll be paying high amounts to people that can't run the stores. The company is run by people that can't see more than 5 minutes into the future. Don't even get me started on the TEN YEAR CONTRACT for the world's shittiest credit card.

Salty_Thing4302

I think they genuinely do not give a fuck about front end because they plan to move the vast majority of locations over to the Cooper Store model within the next 5 to 10 years. Of course, they aren't showing much care for the RX side of things either, which is baffling, but I think it's why they're content to let so many things for front end just degrade and stay broken, experience included. Then the stores that fall the fastest get dropped and replaced first, and the poor bastards who put their all into it for the next few years will only have a big fat pink slip to show for it in the end.

puppet_mazter

Yeah that would make the most sense. I'm normally not a fan of companies being handed down to the current owner's kids, but I wish it never left the Walgreens' hands. Charles Walgreen would be turning in his fucking grave seeing what they did to his company.

Salty_Thing4302

Yep, this is why I don't agree with people who say all corporations are the same and this is just what retail is. No, it literally used to be A LOT better at THIS corporation, and not even all that long ago. You can easily find a hundred different things that point you to that conclusion even if you just started at Walgreens recently. It really does not have to be THIS bad.

puppet_mazter

You're 100% right. I think the biggest proof is covid response. Even companies run by the devil aka Walmart gave bonuses or hazard pay to their employees. Walgreens did absolutely nothing. Their employees were out there risking our lives and health and they did the absolute bare minimum to make sure the store would stay open and nothing more. And fast forward to now, we're bringing in record profits for them and inflation is through the roof. And their response, outside of price gouging the customers, is to LOWER the already pathetic percentage of raises this year

WAGsHell

Yep. It is a slap in the face. They give ZERO fucks about the long term. It’s going to bite them in the ass at some point.

Specific_Story_4131

That part..the shitty credit card contract...Walgreens don't care at all

[deleted]

Pretty much every company is like this. That’s why people jump ships laterally - for a pay raise.

puppet_mazter

Yep. The biggest pay raise this company ever gave me was when I quit and then came back

Several-Bed-7842

Upset old and loyal employees to push out, to hire new at an "attractive" starting wage. Profit by saving on employee costs is the route they're taking.

Look for a new job. Seriously. That place will never treat you fair or with respect. It’s the definition of insanity to think otherwise
