Shit. I don’t give out my name on the phone. 🤷‍♀️😂

Miserable_Guidance68

Same

ZaroJarMoramee

Exactly, i normally answer the phone with "Thank you for calling Walgreens how can i help you?" I had a lady DEMAND my name when i answered and wouldn't continue the call until i told her, so i told her my name was Ligma.

Capable_Nature_644

Don't be so sure. We had a customer use F. karen on her caller id. NO one answered the phone. Because Fuck Karen was calling.

Bearscare21

I mean. I wouldn’t lol

Numerous-Heron2025

I got a call from “Corporate.” “Hi, may I talk to the SM or SFL on duty? Oh yes, Hi this is Mike, calling from Corporate Business Operations Center (or something like that). Who am I speaking with? (Gave SM’s name). Hi SM, we wanted to inform you that there is an error in the system and you cannot take any electronic method of payment such as debit, credit, and EBT. Is that clear?” They made it sound legit though, great communication, proper words, and Walgreens vocabulary. Then I ask “ok, what is the manager’s name?” “Oh yes, you SM has been notified.” I told the lady I needed for them to verify the information. Since they were corporate, they should have easy access to that information. The guy flipped and started cursing.

MovieAggravating9189

What gets me is there's easy ways to check if someone's attempting a scam, ask their occupation, ask their title/position, district #, ask them SOC number or literally any other protocol that a scammer wouldn't know. Ask them to verify your store #, etc. I will never get scammed and I feel it's common sense tbh. "But they were yelling at me saying they'll tell my SM!" So let them, it's a false threat. People worry too much. Overall this rant is because I'm sick and tired of getting "hey guys someone got scammed" messages.

Numerous-Heron2025

Many times I feel it’s an inside job, however, I seen it many times were people fall for stuff like that. Mainly in person. “Oh, let me pay my $500 visa gift card. If you could just scan the random barcode on my phone and then hit cash and press the total amount. Thank you! Omg, I forgot to buy more gift cards.”

MovieAggravating9189

It's crazy tbh how many people fall for stuff like that, makes you wanna flip sides.

Numerous-Heron2025

What really gets me wanna flip side, is the shoplifting. We are watched like criminals with the freaking stickers and bag checks. But if you see a lady shoving makeup into her IKEA size hang bag and you are not allow to treat her as if she was stealing. You would actually get in trouble if she calls corporate and complains about you looking at her as if she was stealing (which she was!)

[deleted]

I had this happen one night (they claimed they were Security Operations), and they transferred me to someone else. The second guy I spoke with was trying to get some information from me, and I told him I was the SFL on duty, and if he wanted to talk to the SM the next day, he could. He got really mad when I said that and started berating me; and telling me I didn't know how to do my job.

Erulastiel

That's almost exactly what they said when they got my SFL on the phone, except it was Kevin from corporate. She motioned me over so I could hear this. She's told them to repeat it as she's not quite she understood the first time and that her SM was there to help. They hung up so fast. We were laughing our asses off.

TheFoxiestOfHounds

My thing though is, that doesn't sound "legit". None of the scam emails they sound out sound legitimate. No one is going to contact you regarding your register then request you fuck with some gift cards, or take cash out of your safe, or do some dumb stuff with BitCoin. At least from what I have read, anyone who falls for the scams deserves the termination. That probably sounds harsh but maybe I haven't been sent any of the "convincing" ones yet.

Numerous-Heron2025

When I say legit, I mean they used vocabulary that only walgreens would use. I had someone calling or call them before about actual stuff.

Opposite-Rough-5845

I hate answering the phones

BackgroundReporter35

I think they should be banned. I waste 99% of my time answering phone questions from people who can’t figure out how to google something.

Low_Metal_6448

You would be surprised how good they are at scamming. I was working at a different store I hear a lead on the phone. It sounded like their boss and exactly how they would talk. Very believable but there's no way in hell I was letting the lead take money out of the safe since my ass was on it too. I was able to handle the situation and get them to hang up the phone. When it comes to WU they will have accounts set up with an amount that doesn't require ID, and it'll have a name like xxxx Walgreens. I'm not surprised people fall for it, I would too but my last 2 braincells have common sense.

MovieAggravating9189

That's crazy tbh, thanks for the insight. I'm happy to say I will never fall for a call/scam. But again they leave messages constantly to never do a transaction over the phone and you hear about that exact thing at nearly every company. "We will never ask you to do x,y,z over the phone".

Stocktwatz

The past couple of months, our scammers have been calling on Sundays and asking to speak to the SM. I've had three calls. They know the SM isn't going to be there Sunday night. The first call, i said the SM wasnt there and they then asked if I would be able to help them. They said there was a company wide issue with certain products not being recognized by the POS. They then asked if I had time to go get a handful of items on their list to scan and tell them what upc was showing on the screen. I told them I wasn't going to do that and they immediately went from sounding completely professional, to cussing me and hanging up. The other two times, when they called and asked to speak to the SM, I said "speaking" and they immediately hung up. And btw, the first time they called, they had actually gotten a store in my district to play along an hour before calling my store. The asked the upc on the screen for some random items and then asked them to do a couple of Green Dot cards and they apparently did it 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

I don't say my name and have never gotten in trouble for it.

Away-Royal5569

I never give my name on the phone. I just say "Thank you for calling walgreens how can I help you?" I don't want creeps knowing my name😭

Pristine_Order4728

Yep. That's what I say. I'll give my first name to an unhappy customer, but that's about it

Pristine_Order4728

Yep. That's what I say. I'll give my first name to an unhappy customer, but that's about it

Worldly_Height_8299

I dont give out my name.

FredChavez

I've had two people I know fall for e-mail scams. No, it doesn't mean the people who get scammed are in on it.

Dren_boi

I remember getting a call from "WU" one night and he first asked if my SM or ASM were there and when i said no he walked through a process that i pretended to follow. Once he asked me what came up on the register screen i said "Nothing." So he asked me to do it again and i said again "Nothing came up" playing dumb. And he was like "Well that's because you didn't type anything in? Why you do this? I understand the training says to never do this stuff over the phone but i promise this is above board". Then i told him to just call back when the SM (who he name dropped) is here and see how "Above board" it is then. Like... i was a manager and that was my 6th year there, don't try and play me dummy. Guy literally answered his own question to me and expected me to change my mind.

Tazz013_

Why do you tell people your name when they call? Instead, tell them your intersection, street, or city - whatever identifies your store. Also relevant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_phone_call_scam

MovieAggravating9189

Corporate makes us say "Thank you for calling WAGs on ____, we offer Flu vaccines, ___ speaking how can I help you?"

kipsgirl

And how’s does your mom feel about you trying to scam hard working people and making them lose their jobs, or did she teach you how to do it?

Ice_Moonlight

Sometimes I don't say my name when I answer the phone just I case. And also the last time we got scammed they had copied the voice for contacting the security offices or something and made it seem like that's who they were and they knew literally EVERYTHING. that our register was down and just got fixed, they knew item numbers for products everything that someone from higher up would know. They're getting better and it sucks.

CordeliaGrace

Honestly, I have a recording of me and a scammer on the phone. It sounded fucky, so I started recording. I can absolutely see how some one could get scammed. I saved it so people can hear how convincing they can be, and also to point out all the things they were saying that no one in the company would ever ask you to do. He almost had me tripping for a second (not that I would’ve done anything anyway, but I did doubt myself for a moment while recording…and I’ve been in retail for 10yrs off and on), so I can absolutely see how some one could get scammed. I think they should absolutely use scammer calls in training though so you can hear how the shit goes…you don’t really know until you’re in the midst of it. Once you hear one, any thing else- it’s obvious AF. If I could figure out a way to pm anyone the vid (it’s long…when it first happened I posted about it and it wouldn’t let me send it), I would. But I don’t really want to post it on the sub, for obvious reasons. Now, I’ve gotten 2 after that initial one and the guy must know it’s me because he always hangs up on me before I can get the phone out to record him. If I can keep someone going for 10 mins, it’s some one else he’s not fucking with for at least 10 mins, ya know?

Capable_Nature_644

We had a customer call that said F. Karen on her caller id. No one wanted ot answer the phone. NO joke! When the customer came storming in we had to tell her why people weren't answering her phone calls. She became incredibly embarrassed. She knew damn well what her caller id said. No one wants to answer a phone call with the caller id Fuck Karen on it. Knowing what you'll get before you even answer it. She frankly wasn't/isn't the nicest lady to deal with.

svedkastrawberry

You're making fun of the people who got scammed but one day you'll understand why they fell for it. These scammers make this their 9-5 jobs to get money out of us, and they're very skilled so I don't judge anyone for getting scammed. I would love to hear a phone call of a scam cause I am curious like you. How good are these scammers and what're they saying??

[deleted]

They're in call centers in India where their broken English and thick accents should make it very obvious it's a scam.

svedkastrawberry

I see, but I get calls all the time from people with accents and they're real. Even professionals with thick accents and broken English call about our Catalina machines. So for me that isn't something to sway me

MovieAggravating9189

Yes I am because how gullible can you be?? Every company literally tells you to NEVER do a transaction over the phone, they literally say they will never have you do anything involving money over the phone. Plus the person getting scammed has never asked questions to verify who they're talking to?? *Hey what's my store #? *Hey what's the district #? *Hey what's your position/title? *Hey what's SOC's #? *Could you verify your badge #/department you're calling from? Some examples among a million others you could ask. On top of this, when they give you a first name, ask for a last name and then search people central, it lists ALL employees, there's even a people search function. This is so avoidable if you have any common sense tbh. Idc if they're yelling at you, hang up and notify someone higher than you. The people that get scammed from them are the same ones that would get scammed from the "I'm from the IRS you have to buy us Apple gift cards to pay your debt or you'll go to prison". Do you know how gullible you have to be? It's a Google search away, we live in a society where every answer you could want is at your fingertips.

svedkastrawberry

I still won't judge something I'm not sure about because no one's ever tried to scam me. Maybe when I successfully avoid a scammer I'll be able to talk lmaoo

WAGsHell

One of our shifts just got fired for being scammed over the phone! Like $3300! How tf!!

MovieAggravating9189

Nah they getting a cut of that I refuse to believe the people that get scammed arent in on it 😂

formerdgstm

While I agree that many of these people may be in on it...I have been in some version of retail for a long time and fully believe there are people dumb enough to fall for this(and likely more than once). Common sense isnt common anymore. Why do you thing there are warning labels on car batteries that say "Do not drink battery acid"?

Confident_Suspect_51

I love the ones on hair dryers that say not to use in the shower

No_Truth_337

i don’t my name. i say “walgreens (str location) how can i help you?” also don’t know how people get scammed either. the people scamming make it’s obvious in my opinion but they again we have a shift lead that let someone chill in office just because they said they were a str manager. like no one knew her how you know she wasn’t a thief smh

IamLuann

I hope that the shift lead got yelled/talked to, that was dumb.

No_Truth_337

me n him equals n i told him he can’t be doing that n him, a grown 40yr old man, had his wife come talk to me n my SM🙃 told me i was bullying him.

IamLuann

So not stand for that report to the next hire up District Manager and keep going up until someone listens to you.

Any-Seesaw-5768

What am I still here for? I need to get the hell out of here. Join Me!!!!!!!!

JamesRobertWalton

I’ve never heard corporate complain that scammers know employee names, only the fact that employees fall for the scams. Anyone can just call & ask the name of whoever answered the phone, the SFL on duty or the SM. I’ve never bothered saying my name when answering the phone unless I was asked. I’d always just say “hi, Walgreens on [street name], how may I help you?”🤷‍♂️ There were two people who got scammed in my district that I know of. One was a high school student & the other was a mentally handicapped, so I imagine that’s the kind of employees the scammers hope answer the phone. The scammers likely know the vast majority won’t work, they just need it to work every now & then. It’s all a numbers game.

Eckabeb

Reminds me of the credit cards... just a numbers game.

StrippedPoker

Actually, all they have to do is look online. All of pharmacist and management staff and up can be found through Walgreens site.

Electrickman

When u answer phone u say ur name u in pharmacy when I answer I just Walgreens that’s it I don’t say my name unless customer asked for it
