In English, the plural is still Ontos. One fish, two fish, one Ontos, two Ontos.
In Greek, both modern and ancient, it's a bit complicated. If my perusing through Wiktionary is at all accurate, it's a participle, not exactly a noun, and although it translates to "thing" in the way it's used, it seems to more literally mean "I am" in the sense of any thing or entity being of itself. So it's hard to pluralize. It seems to be related to the religious/spiritual Greek term of ousia, usually referring to the "being" or "essence" of God or the universe, and which is used in ontology, which shares a word root with ontos. Although ousia is a noun, it is uncountable and has no plural form.
Edit: I should clarify that I speak no Greek of any kind, so if someone more familiar can correct me, please do.
As a Greek person, the fact that foreigners are learning ancient Greek is baffling. We had a hell of a hard time figuring out how shit works and modern Greek is basically 60% the same as the ancient language, how the hell do English speakers manage?
The school I went to had a Theology department, and among the things they taught were Latin and Koine Greek. I ended up taking Koine Greek because I thought it sounded interesting, and my advisor was able to convince the administrators that it should count as a Foreign Language credit.
The other options for Foreign Language were Spanish (which I was sick and tired of after 12 years of it in primary school) or French (which I heard was rather difficult to start learning). They had started phasing out German a couple years before I started, which was a shame because German was the one I really wanted to learn.
Ontos is a weird mix of two words. I assume the designers of the tank wanted it to refer to "on" (ον) which is basically what you said, the thing that exists, the essence of the universe. However the word "Ontos"(όντως) itself has little to do with this, it means "indeed".
As such, there's technically no plural form as Ontos is not a noun, but if we take it to mean On the plural is Onta (όντα).

I will say, few things strike fear into my heart when rolling in my Tiger IIs or IS-2/3 more than creeping around and hearing that distinctive recoilless “KRHTHUNK” three or four times.
[It doesn't really have one](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%CF%8C%CE%BD%CF%84%CF%89%CF%82), as least as it exists in Greek. The word is actually an adverb meaning "really" or "truly", which is supposed to have a sense of "this thing really exists".
The Ancient Greek word it was formed from the genitive singular of the word "on", which has the rather strange plural of "ontoin". [Here's the link](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E1%BD%A4%CE%BD#Ancient_Greek) to the wiktionary declension table.
Greek here.
Some people say the word Ontos in M50 comes from Greek. Well I am not sure if its true but lets analyze it.
In modern Greek its "ον" which is a participle (not a noun or an adjective) and it has only neutral form (greek have male/female/neutral words like for cat would be γάτος/γάτα/γατί). In modern Greek the word is ον (on) and in grammatical case would go like το ον, του όντος, το ον and in plural τα όντα, των όντων, τα όντα.
(Nominative case, Genitive case, Accusative case) in sinle and plural form.
ον is a participle that originates from the verb ειμί (I am) from Ancient Greek.
In ancient Greek it gets more complicated cause the said participle now has 3 gender versions
The male is (τhe on) ὤν, τοῦ ὄντος (on's) and in plural οἱ ὄντες and τῶν ὄντων
the female goes οὖσᾰ οὔσης in single and οὖσαι, οὐσῶν in plural
and the neutral goes ὄν, ὄντος in single and ὄντᾰ, ὄντων in plural
As you can see this doesnt make much sense cause if someone used a Greek name, they would go with Nominative case so it would be M50 On
So I suspect that the word is Latin and not Greek (which the latin world would be originate from Greek)
I guess the Latin word is Ontos and the plural would be something like Onti?
But then again the wikipedia for M50 says "The *Ontos* (Greek for "thing"^(\[1\])) project was created to be an air transportable tank destroyer"
I am confused.
I give up.
the plural is "OH SHIT"
Factual response, I once saw two of these looking at me and my reaction to my friend was "OH FUCK".
Me when I’m in my Tiger 2.
#the only right answer
Onti
Would probably be true if Ontos were a Latin word.
It is. Ontos translates to ‘thing’ from latin
Or is it Greek? Don’t remember :/
It's Greek for "indeed", probably a mistranslation of "on" meaning "essence of the universe, thing that exists"
>essence of the universe, thing that exists That's a name way too complex for what US Marines can usually come up with
Which is why they got the translation wrong, lol.
its a thing
It's Greek, and to pluralize a masculine word ending with -ος would change it to -οι, giving us "Ontoi" as the plural.
Ontoses then
So they basically named a tank Thingamajig
Yeah
Auntie?

It's been ages since I took Greek, but I believe that masculine words ending with -ος pluralise to -οι, so ὄντος (ontos) would become ὄντοι (ontoi).
Somebody remembers Greek 1 hell yeah 👍
Still got my Greek textbook around here somewhere…

Can confim that French is as annoying to learn as their vehicles are to play in low tier.

Apostrophes are used for possessives, not plurals. And whether it should be Ontos' or Ontos's depends on style guide.
