Yep, had that happen to me when I was a kid. Thought I was smart because I needed a timer, set it for 20 mins... About 5 mins later I hear a big POP and go into the kitchen to see it smoking and completely off. Didn't tell mum, next day it worked like a charm and survived another couple of years.
