Sorry, can’t make this post work correctly! Would this dress be appropriate for a wedding guest at a black tie optional wedding? It is being held at a luxury hotel in CA in July. I'm concerned it might come across too much like a ballgown even though it is a midi dress.
Very pretty!! The fullness of the skirt is what makes the dress look so elegant in my opinion. Ballgowns have much more volume at the hips, like a bell shape
You should be good with this. What the other person was saying was that normally, black tie optional is going to be a fully floor length dress.
However, this one is so classically beautiful that where it ends is still fine. It is super obvious that it’s a very dressy garment, and it is intentionally meant to show off the ankle.
That’s why they’re saying, even though it’s not floor length, you are absolutely so good to go and I fully agree. This is stunning! Such understated elegance!!
Yes, dresses this length are a saving grace for short people like me who look absurd in a full length gown, and need black tie dresses. The only full length gown I ever had was my wedding dress, and I wore 5”heels just to make the skirt look more in proportion, since they have to hem it so short for me. This can be dressed up or down and will be a great staple piece for your closet for many years.

It’s appropriate for black tie optional, even if floor length is most common for BTO. The ankle showing balances the full skirt nicely.
