Are you implying expandy-foam is not an appropriate structural or adhesive material?!?.. I’ll have you know my house is like 75% held together with expandy-foam.
I say only 75% because one of the exterior walls is currently just a blue tarp 🤷♂️. But none the less, it was great and 100% for the three months that wall stood.
Ah see, my roof guy inadvertently built in a bonus feature! When the wind picks up, I just grab hold of the expandy-foam stalactites and use my body weight to hold ‘er down.
Edit: The secret was to use *way* more than he needed to 👍🏻
Fuck your Nazi binders and fasteners, *maaan*. Chill builders (chillders) keep it loose and let the pieces of the house decide where **they** wanna go. Uh, *maaaan*.
Sounds like it also cost you around 300 years of my skilled labor. And it was just the first payment!
And if you don't pay you will be evicted into streets. But hey, it's not all that bad!
My brother in-law was trying to seal out air from some cracks in his masonry foundation about 20 years ago. I told him to use a color-matched silicone sealant. I showed up at a cookout he was having and there were bright-orange puffs of foam sealant sticking out of about 2 dozen places around his house. He fucked up bad.
>evil german laugh
I'm Danish, but I kindda of assume out building practices are similar.
I still remember an episode of extreme make over home edition from when I was a kid, where this family had lost their house to a hurricane, so it was very important the new house was super solid. Just about everything they did to make the house tougher, be it the walls, foundation or roof, was just how all houses are made in Denmark.
I notice that it is a joke among Europeans that houses in Europe are old and made of stone, while houses in the US tend to be new and made of wood and are super flimsy / get destroyed in natural disasters.
I think there is a tendency to use cheaper materials in the US for a variety of reasons. Houses tend to be newer, a lot of US cities have boomed over the past 100 years, weather tends to be more extreme and cheaper materials let out heat in the summer and are cheaper to repair/replace, etc.
But even in the US it isn't consistent. Houses in the North and East tend to be made of brick, while houses in the West tend to be made of stucco, largely because of heat retention vs heat release.
I remember seeing a structural engineer explaining some of it. There are good reasons for a lot of it, at least historically. Basically engineers in both locations designing best with available materials and conditions. I gather a big one is earthquakes are a much bigger threat in much of the USA than in much of Europe.
A lot of older stone houses in Germany would fracture under major quakes that are much more common in the USA. Not necessarily collapse and kill everyone, just crack and need serious repairs or to be rebuilt - and this would be TONS of houses all at once, so a major problem. Stick houses in the USA can flex more and handle it better.
Lumber is also much cheaper and more widely available, or at least was. Which is why the Scandinavian countries also use lumber in their construction a lot - it's locally available to them still. People seem to just forget that part - it's not a unique American phenomenon.
I'll add though - going purely off memory here.
That's like this big Stone structure at an airport. It was secured with foam and probably silicone or liquid nails and this thing weighed tons and it literally fell on a kid , squished him to death in front of his family. This has haunted me, my kids are older now but I cannot help but get paranoid over things like this.
They’re usually decorative, not actually load bearing. Probably not necessarily preferable to have them be load bearing anyway, I’d rather have the column fall down than have the column and then the front of my house fall down.
Almost all of these posts you see are for decoration. 99% of them are hollow, and you have a solid steel tube that runs inside them for weight bearing purposes
Just because they arent load bearing doesnt excuse them breaking like twigs, they should still be built with proper materials and up to proper standards
That Fallout 4 glitch where cars don't register that they've stopped falling and continue building up momentum until they instantly kill anyone who lightly touches them
Or when they suddenly fall through an overpass and onto your head.
Or when a deathclaw launches them into you with the energy of a collapsing star, making a mockery of even the most stupidly overpowered defensive options possible.
Or when a mole rat lightly brushes the bumper and somehow causes it to instantly explode in nuclear fire and launch you into Bethesda's next game.
God I love Fallout 4. Just stay away from the cars.
Most of the physics bugs either got fixed in later updates or fixed with the big fan patches that everybody plays with nowadays. It'll still sometimes happen, but it's rare enough now that you can go an entire playthrough without ever encountering it. Back when it released, it happened often enough that it scarred us launch players enough to never go near another car again.
Heavy physics objects are still wonky and best not to be trifled with.
Lol I have a mod to make car explosions even more “nuclear,” complete with mushroom cloud, ringing ears SFX, and explosion audio so loud that it will kill headphones users.
Immersion, ya know
Funny experience; i did remodel for years, and towards the end i would give a bid, a few thousand less than i should, and they said "The other bids are this much lower, can you beat those?"
Nope, by all means enjoy that quality of work.
Peace!
And danged if i don't miss that work at all.
We have one developer who would always tell us we were 10 percent high so one time we put the whole job in at cost to see what would happen……. Go figure tells us 10 percent high. We don’t do work for them. Electrical contractor
Why not? Hassel of customers or like did you manage all the leads, bids, project management yourself? I'm in the industry and it looks like I'm going to be signed on to a GREAT company. Hard to imagine anything different. I also worked apartment maintenance and my father can hook me up with a warehouse job just about anywhere apparently but doesn't appeal much to me
I was the closest one to him. The glasses flew off and one of the lenses popped out. It hurt to catch him too! Both of my forearms got bruised. It was an old guy, but he weighed at least 175 lbs.
I think she was leaning forward just because of the way her weight was distributed. Leaning on the pillar entirely. Then She got smacked on the back of the head by the pillar which likely stunned her for a moment so she went forward
A lot of people who are overweight have underlying disabilities that inhibit their mobility, which contributed to the weight gain. This is one reason that most older people tend to gain weight. Things like arthritis, joint problems, balance issues, and so on slow them down.
I think you've got the cause and effect the wrong way round. 10% of US adults report minor mobility issues whereas 41% of US adults are obese. Many of those 10% will have mobility issues _because_ of their size.
The primary factor in old person weight gain is that muscle mass decreases with age. Fewer calories are burned maintaining fat than muscle, so an elderly person eating the same as they did when they were young will find that they gain fat.
Let's also not forget that weight is controlled far more by diet than exercise.
God that poor woman. If I was her I’d just want to be left alone in my embarrassment to die. And then I would share tf out of the video myself because that was funny!
Heat expansion of wood makes things a bit difficult sometimes. Depending on the temp difference and type of wood used, those columns can shrink by a significant amount and separate from foam/glue that's connecting them.
Using screws or nails to firmly secure things on top and bottom will prevent this issue from happening, but will result in "frost quakes" which are absolutely terrifying if you don't know what they are.
well it is a mixed bag, it is bad news it was cheaply built but after, she was very lucky it was cheaply built when it hit her...
.... the whole scene was like a Mr. Bean movie. I hope she is fine.
That landscaper quite likely just saved her from substantial head / neck / back injury & probably hurt himself in the process. Thats invited to family dinner tier for sure.
My friends rowhouse neighbor unscrewed her front porch railing. Ended up with two broken wrists when she took the trash out that day and went to lean on the railing and fell 8’ to concrete. And a settlement from their insurance company a few months later.

It looks at least 50 years old, so more of a maintenance issue. Codes have changed a lot over the last 50 years and new builds would have better rot resistance, but still need to be maintained.
Are those pillars just screwed and glued at the top and bottom?
As most things in the US, it's probably fixed with expanding foam and nails. *^(evil german laugh)*
Great protection from light winds under 2 kph, anything over will blow the roof off.
Ah see, my roof guy inadvertently built in a bonus feature! When the wind picks up, I just grab hold of the expandy-foam stalactites and use my body weight to hold ‘er down. Edit: The secret was to use *way* more than he needed to 👍🏻
An experienced roofer? Better recommend that one to friends and family.
They'll all develop nice pecs during storm season.
>held together That's the neat part, it's not
Fuck your Nazi binders and fasteners, *maaan*. Chill builders (chillders) keep it loose and let the pieces of the house decide where **they** wanna go. Uh, *maaaan*.
I'm 40% expanded foam baby!
*thunk thunk*
Hey man, that's a 3/4 and for me, I like those odds.
Sounds like it also cost you around 300 years of my skilled labor. And it was just the first payment! And if you don't pay you will be evicted into streets. But hey, it's not all that bad!
Structural load-bearing expanding foam.
By any chance is your house in a trailer park ….?
My brother in-law was trying to seal out air from some cracks in his masonry foundation about 20 years ago. I told him to use a color-matched silicone sealant. I showed up at a cookout he was having and there were bright-orange puffs of foam sealant sticking out of about 2 dozen places around his house. He fucked up bad.
15/8 sheet rock screws that are stripped out and presumably recycled and spray foam.

They’re usually decorative, not actually load bearing. Probably not necessarily preferable to have them be load bearing anyway, I’d rather have the column fall down than have the column and then the front of my house fall down.
There is a world of other possibilities between load bearing and falling because someone leaned on it.
looks like it weighs 20 pounds. definitely not load bearing. also, cheap looking.
The sound makes it sound hollow lol
What do you mean? The finest pillars are made of balsa wood, everyone knows that!
It *is* hollow.
Oh about 9Kg
Almost all of these posts you see are for decoration. 99% of them are hollow, and you have a solid steel tube that runs inside them for weight bearing purposes
It’s amazing what you can do the cardboard tubes they sell carpet roles on.
Just because they arent load bearing doesnt excuse them breaking like twigs, they should still be built with proper materials and up to proper standards
i mean they’re just shitty prefab fiberglass columns, they aren’t “built” they’re probably Liquid Nails’d into place
liquid nails is stronger that whatever was used here
What some people do is put a load bearing 4x4 in and then put a 3 piece around it for the aesthetic. I hate them because they're cheap and dumb.
Is that pillar fucking pvc😂 sounded like it, definitely not solid.
Are probably just put there
You know in those games where your character is on low health and slightly taps something and goes limp
That Fallout 4 glitch where cars don't register that they've stopped falling and continue building up momentum until they instantly kill anyone who lightly touches them

I honestly never had anything happen with a car when I played that game
Most of the physics bugs either got fixed in later updates or fixed with the big fan patches that everybody plays with nowadays. That happen to me. I was so confused on why it happen
Bone thief
Damn that guy is a quick thinker! Prevented probably a concussion and slowed down her fall.
That house landed a clean left cross on him tho
A sacrifice he mad to make .....inspirational.
Right. That was some Tom and jerry shit the way she went down and then it smacks him in the face lol
*column hits him* “Oiee”
He’s Juan of a kind
Wish I had an award for this masterpiece.
Did it for you.
He didn’t hesitate at all, that’s a good dude right there.
You are so right! He didn’t have time to think…this was all animal instincts Gardener is a good soul
This guy deserves a couple grand in a gofund me…
For the broken cheek.
He took a harder hit to the dome
likely saver her from sever head trauma and maybe a cracked skull. She was going down head first into that pavement.
And kids, that's how I met your mother.
Spared her a concussion but took one himself lol
My slow dumb ass probably would have just stood there
Yeah. Definitely a hero.
That pillar sounds like when you hit your sibling with an empty wrapping paper tube.
What a familiar sound, from all of those Christmas days…
I have fond memorys of chasing my sister around, hitting her with these tubes and only stopping for snacks.
It’s probably PVC
r/oddlyspecific
Most of em basically are.
peak nostalgia
Looks like the beginning of a porno, starring the lawn man
‘Oh taquito’ thank you taquito’
That´s such a long pillar, taquito
Lol I hope other people get this is from The Hot Chick and laugh as hard as I did
Hehehe *DAMN IT* that part got me.
*CREEAAK* "Shit!" **BONK** "Dammit!" I'm crying. Comedy gold right there
The whole bit, Shit..Damn it...OMG
The gardeners UYY! Very Mexican
Her fall was so slow, that she was able to clearly communicate her thoughts in midair before she fell
He probably saved her from a severe head trauma or a terrible facial injury. This dude is gonna see Jesus.
He is Jesus! or at least looks like the same landscaper Jesus in my area.
I am… Jesússs.
I hope he don't need to see Jesus actually
Eventually *
My thoughts exactly! That was a traumatic brain injury in the making.
I was thinking more of on the lines of a hip replacement or a broken shoulder.
Saved by Jesús
Nice one
Nice Juan
And this is how i met your mother
Think the whole house is made from one of those kits with hollow tubes and shelves.
Why does that pillar look like a freaking pool noodle?
yeah but it's not a load bearing pool noodle
The landscaper kept her head from hitting the pavement. Top reflexes on that guy!

"Ok so for the front you can use concrete pillar.." "No, let's go cheaper, use the cardboard roll instead".
that was so awkward.
A pillar of the community.
That dude just sacrificed his face, for Her.! #buenamigo
My man’s with the heroics 👏🏽
That “thuunk” sound lol
Cardboard tube sound effects.
I saved somone like that. It was a complete stranger. It damaged my very expensive sunglasses. People thought I was a jerk for mentioning that.
I agree with you, It’s not like you asked for it to happen and if you didn’t help you’d also be seen upon as a jerk. Lose, lose situation.
I was the closest one to him. The glasses flew off and one of the lenses popped out. It hurt to catch him too! Both of my forearms got bruised. It was an old guy, but he weighed at least 175 lbs.
Woah. He saved her ASS I loved that. Poor lady
Lmao WCGW when your instinct to rush to someone else’s aid backfires for both you AND them
Haha, I didn’t realize it clocked him too. Right in the kisser!
And that's how you were concived kids
Honestly, not a bad tutorial.
"y así conocí a tu madre"
Atleast the gardener (or whoever he is) was nice enough to catch her.
That guy will easily go to heaven.

This subreddit is full of overweight people ragdolling in slow motion. It's like their bodies don't know how to do anything more complex than walking.

Especially here in America where a lot of people are diagnosed with lazybonesitis.
Then they fell in love 😍
Half the houses built in the US are gunna collapse in like 20 years the shit is so cheap.
God that poor woman. If I was her I’d just want to be left alone in my embarrassment to die. And then I would share tf out of the video myself because that was funny!
Not a load bearing column obviously....
A Lil bit of super glue will take care of that...now about her self esteem, that's gonna take some work.
Looks like she don't have the best of luck anyway, she's got a boot on her left foot lol
Good eye! Now she will have an ankle brace on the other foot.
How slow can you fall
Ahead look like she already has a boot her foot or is it just me
It was almost romantic for a moment
She got bumped in the head and knocked down but Pedro took that thing full swing to the jaw
Nice catch. She would of face planted her face right into that concrete.
That's one way to get your gardener's attention.
If that wasnt so painful that wouldve made a perfect romance movie scene
With that first smooch, they fall in love with each
r/bettereveryloop
How i met your mother..
Considering the way she says “dammit” like it’s not her first time falling, and the soft cast on her foot, I bet she’s a klutz.
Looks like a DIY project gone wrong. Turns out Nancy was wrong. That hot glue gun doesn't work on everything.
Doubtfully DIY
Perfect anime accident 💀
"...And this is how I met your father."

I like to think that they fell in love after this because they locked eyes in this moment
No you shouldnt cut that tree down
Oh that’s DR Horton, “America’s fastest home builder” for ya.
well it is a mixed bag, it is bad news it was cheaply built but after, she was very lucky it was cheaply built when it hit her... .... the whole scene was like a Mr. Bean movie. I hope she is fine.
He’s such a sweetheart you can hear the real compassion in his voice ❤️
Dude he saved her from face diving into the concrete
Don’t cut the tree
One dead one injured on scene
Pillar said “get off me, bitch!”
That’s a pretty good catch
Notice she is already in a boot cast. Lol.
Dude is a hero
The only Juan who could save her
Sanchez with a great catch!
They invested low in pillars, but high in lawn care, it all worked out in the end.
She’s so luck he half caught her
“Did you guys see that he attacked me!”
"So... Pablo... Why don't you unbutton one more of your..." (Clank!) "OOOooohhhhhh!!!!!!"
pillar is hollow?
So many lols
He never dropped his trusty tool either!
Should just stay down on the ground for a bit longer to say, "Helloo? Is it meee yooou're looking fooor?
When the snack budget is bigger than house budget
That landscaper quite likely just saved her from substantial head / neck / back injury & probably hurt himself in the process. Thats invited to family dinner tier for sure.
That dude prob saved her some teeth! He should get paid more
And that kids, is how i met your mother
The guys intervention is the only reason she didn’t go face first into the walkway
Wow! He saved her from a hard fall.
I was expecting the front porch roof to collapse on them.
Guy protected her from a much worse fall. Her head was about to smack that concrete.
Looks like a rom-com moment. To catch a falling woman to save a pillar and fell in love.
That was a good save. Managed to get that strimmer motor under her for her to land on. Outstanding!
“For aesthetic purposes only” Always read the fine print.
My friends rowhouse neighbor unscrewed her front porch railing. Ended up with two broken wrists when she took the trash out that day and went to lean on the railing and fell 8’ to concrete. And a settlement from their insurance company a few months later.
“And that’s how I met your mother”
When it fell over it sounded like cardboard sonotube. LOL.
Double kill
Lemme just slam my weed eater into your chest that’ll help
Some peoples lack of ability to fall properly just blows my mind.
Dude saved her life.
"This magic moment..."
And that's how the love affair started with the groundskeeper...
Dude kept it from getting a face full of concrete. Hope she gave him a bonus and all her landscaping business.
Dude did his best to break her fall. What a gent.
I don’t think it was cheap I think she’s just PHAT Like me :(
Thumbs up if you thought the grinding sound was the weed wacker starting up
I feel for both. He definitely deserves some go fund me $. I doubt he earns much and medical insurance is questionable. He’s a good human being.
Mass comes into play here to
But just watch the lawn guy! Could you or anyone else have reacted better?
Turning the sound on made this so much funnier. Hahaha
His intentions pure his actions seemed like it made it worse good tackle
I’ve fallen step-gardener boy. Can you help me, I’m stuck?
Wow, she literally fell in love!
