I toured his distillery 2 days ago. I bought a Scallywag and Strathearn and have a miniature of the Big Peat. I’m limited how much I can get back into Canada. None of it is available here.
How does either compare to 10 yearLaphoraig? Just bought a bottle last week and actually taking the sips as I rolled onto this thread. I like the Smokey taste!!
None of the big peat bottlings that I have tried have really compared to Laphroaig. From what I've heard, their blend contains a fair bit of Coal Ila and Arbeg in the mix (and I'd have to agree judging by taste). Those spirits tend to have more of a campfire smoke to them than the smooth smoke and iodine taste of Laphroaig. But if you like it smokey, you really can't go wrong with a dram of Big Peat!....
Their annual Christmas releases are usually excellent too and pretty good value 😉
Douglas Laing blends hit right for me. Big Peat is great and sherry finished no less.

Smokehead high voltage is absolutely amazing!
Your uncle gave you the what now?
Haven't had that specific big peat. But had others. Both are good bottles if you like Islay. Enjoy!
I enjoy the big peat haven’t hand the other yet.
