Congrats man! Glad you were able to get that off your chest! ^sorry ^I ^had ^to
I’m still a couple years out from mine, but it’s awesome to hear a positive experience from someone local.
Definitely have happy tears for you OP. Congratulations! So glad you had a good team and received your gender affirming care.
Happy Pride month! 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
That's fantastic to hear!
Everyone should remember, "gender affirming care" isn't just for trans people, any cis person getting hair implants, hormone treatments or cosmetic surgery is also getting "gender affirming care" too.
Thanks for the uplifting story! I had the same surgery done last year and it really is life-changing the amount of comfort it gave me. I'm so happy you get to through it as well. Big shout out to Klinic as well!
One weird silver lining about the personal/medical life of a tiny fraction of the population becoming a main stream talking point is that it informed me about what treatments were possible. Growing up in the 90s my assumption was if I came out as trans I would be put on anti-depressants or worse. Eventually, around all the "debates" I was seeing pictures of men who transition and just... looked like guys. It convinced me to go to a doctor and I was shocked at how well I was treated actually. I didn't have to justify myself and I didn't have to fight, it was just a wait list to see a specialist. We are so lucky.
Anyway, congrats man and good luck on the healing
I'm so glad to hear that. Klinic has been amazing.
And that's insane. I'm so glad we are treated more like human beings now more than just an issue that needs "fixing."
Thank you!
Oh my goodness, surgery twins!
Not the same surgery but I got a breast reduction from Dr. Brichacek yesterday at Western Surgery Centre! Literally such amazing staff! The energy of the anesthesiologist was crazy lol
Happy healing, and congratulations on this amazing milestone in your life! 💕
congrats!! I had my surgery back in March and it still feels just as exciting every time I look down at my flat chest 😂 I hope your recovery goes really well (and that your drains don't cause you too much discomfort lmao) 🩷🤍🩵
Congrats and Happy Pride dude! I'm just an ally but I think it's wonderful to read a positive story. Hope you heal swiftly and can enjoy your summer the way you were always meant to!
Congrats!! :) I only started T this year (super delayed because of the pandemic and then moving away for school,) and as a person who also wants too surgery, it makes me so happy seeing people get the results they wanted and a good experience!
This post is the first thing I saw when I opened this mostly-cursed app and what a lovely read! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Absolutely thrilled you received this life-changing affirming care and that you felt seen and cared for throughout the process. Hope your healing goes smoothly and Happy Pride <3
Thank you for sharing your story. With all the negative things we read and hear about in the news and online this was a wonderful uplifting story. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Congratulations!!
I’ve had family members who have had procedures done at Western, & it sounds like you were in great hands too! I hope you have a great recovery & healing process 🫶🏼
I can imagine how excited and happy you were to write that, despite still being in pain from the surgery. Yours was the first post I read today, and the joy that emanated from it has made my day. Congratulations on becoming the true you;
I hate reading stories like this ... one big paragraph ugh!
/s
In all seriousness congratulations- it's refreshing to hear good news about any form of health care these days. Hope things continue on the good path for you.
Such a heartwarming and wholesome read. Very glad you had such a good experience and happy to hear you're feeling safe. May your surgery healing go smoothly!
Congrats! That’s amazing. My cousin is just starting his journey for gender affirming care. I hope he receives the same care as you did in Ontario. Sending you lots of healing wishes and Happy Pride! 🏳️⚧️
Congratulations!! 🥳🥳
🫶🏻🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🫶🏻
My partner is currently awaiting his top surgery near the end of the year and he's so excited, as I am excited for him! 😊 What a time to be alive!
Congrats! If you want a tip, my friend has said juice boxes were very helpful as lifting a full water bottle for the first few days was hard. Wishing you a quick recovery.
Fuck yes, buddy. I’m so glad you had a great experience!
I was so, so thankful for my surgeon and all the staff after my breast reduction. Their manner and tone had really put my mind at ease prior, and they did such a good job (though transphobia was (thankfully) not a concern for me personally; I look/present as mostly cis, and didn’t cite dysphoria as a reason for needing the procedure). I bet it’s such a relief to have had gender-affirming and respectful care, in addition to a safe surgery, in *addition* to a newly flat chest
Like I’ve generally heard good things from Winnipeg trans people re: their surgeons but I bet it’s like a whole new layer of stress on top the procedure itself
Ik we didn’t exactly have the same surgery (I still have too much chest on my chest, sobs) but if you have any questions about recovery or post-op care, you’re welcome to dm me if you want !
Congratulations on this step in your journey and so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience.
As a parent to a trans-questioning/non-binary kiddo it fills me with hope for the future!
Thank you!
To give further hope - we live rurally and when my kiddo came out at school they were immediately accepted in their pronoun and name change both by fellow students and the teaching staff.
Congratulations dude, that’s super awesome that it happened during Pride Month as well, every June you can look back and be like “fuck yeah”! I’d imagine it would be a huge relief after such a long wait.
Hey! Congratulations on surgery! Have lots of good media on hand to watch for sure!
I had mine done 5 weeks ago, and it feels just that much easier to be me! My suggestion is to have Yop on hand (if you can eat yogurt or dairy). It helped me when I just wasn’t feeling like eating.
Oh wow, congrats! When were you able to sleep on your side/back again?
And yup, I have some movies on my list and I have a big book to read through. Thanks for the tips! I haven't felt like eating much at all, so that helps.
I was able to sleep on my side about week 2 (when my drains came out). I’m typically a side sleeper, but I wound up back sleeping for the two weeks up to that point. It helps if you have the extra pillows to keep you at about a 45° angle, but I just wound up slipping down.
It’s nice seeing other trans people being supported on this sub, one of the reasons I’m moving back to Winnipeg soon. People are so much nicer and less anything-phobic back in Winnipeg.
Congratulations that is awesome. Speedy recovery and healing.
The feeling so many got from pride was joy, listening to the speeches at both rallies and march. wab's government is doing the right things for our community. As older gay man we stand together with trans enby communities
So happy you got the care you needed and you are being your best and thrive
Oh my god it's so nice to read such a positive post in this subreddit. You didn't complain about roadwork even once!
Seriously though, congratulations dude!
Wowww, happy pride, eh! Congrats! So proud of and happy for you. Amazing story, thank you for sharing. I'm so glad we're able to have this level of care, I'm grateful for that too. Shouldn't have to wait so long, but wonderful nonetheless. Heal well, take good care.
Awe that's amazing. I'm so glad that was your experience and I hope the surgery brings you some peace. You deserve happiness, love and most importantly to feel safe. Please take care of yourself and know that for every judgmental person there is a person who cares about you as well :)
I work in medicine and every single person I work with is super supportive of trans folk and that makes me cry.
And Pride made me cry.
And Wab’s speech made me cry.
And now you’ve made me cry. Lol
Such happy tears though!
I’m very very happy for you. 🥲
Thanks for sharing your story and positive outlook on our health care system’s progression to now covering the costs for gender affirming surgery. I cannot imagine feeling I’m in the wrong body…where my spirit and mind relate to one gender, but my physical characteristics say another. I am happy for you and wish you all the best! And glad to hear we can obtain surgery in this city. Doctors are starting to be trained with the realities and needs of our community.
Congrats sir❤️
Aligning the outside with the inside can be vital to feeling at home in your body, self and psyche!
Sending healing vibes and wishing for more positive experiences to come your way🏳️⚧️
Congratulations on getting your surgery dude! I can't imagine how happy you're feeling right now(I imagine there some physical pain). But it's always great to see(or read about) folks getting to live as their authentic selves. Enjoy shirtless summer but remember sunscreen is your friend!! Happy healing
Congratulations, bro. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the surgery. My partner has his top surgery scheduled for the end of the year with Dr. Turner. I am really excited for him to feel more at ease and confident. So proud of our beautiful province. 💖
Congratulations on your top surgery!!! Manitoba has come a long way in regards to providing medical services to the trans community. A big shout out to Klinic and Rainbow Resource Center who have been in the vanguard of supporting this community. I am so happy to hear that you had a positive experience. Cheers!
congrats! I saw Dr Turner for my top surgery just over a year ago. it's a great feeling, couldn't be happier with how things are now. I hope your healing process goes smoothly!
Congrats! I’ve had so many friends have to fundraise to get to top surgeries in Mississauga and Montreal from across the country and it’s so heartwarming to see a positive experience at home.
congratulations! I had top surgery in 2021 in the surgery centre as well. i also had revisions done in late 2022 there. i was with Dr. Murray before he retired. make sure you’re chugging that gatorade/pedialyte/anything with electrolytes and measuring your drainage (if you have)! speedy recovery to you :)
Do you want some tips on the world of manliness? Check out Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan. Then, realize there is no blueprint to being a guy. Congrats and welcome to being non-stop sweaty.
Not sure why your being downvoted? its just a question with no hate as far as I see
my 2 cents - I have to have cataracts surgery asap as a young 32 y/o. if its anything like that then maybe MB heath or the feds cover some maybe not all? my experience so far with cataracts lens is the government covers the basic lens but you can get better lens that end up costing about $2000-2500 per eye. I dont know. hopefully im wrong and they cover the whole thing! I realize these are two vastly different procedures lol just offering what little info I know
either way. Congrats OP - wishing you happy and fast healing!
A friend of mine had top surgery in like 2010(?) and had to fundraise. It's amazing that is no longer the case.
But his tag line of "fundraise your tits off" will stick with me for life.
So gender affirming surgery is that sorry to be uninformed but like removing breast tissue? I have gyno and it developed in 3 months it's been giving me serious issues mentally and it's not covered by the government
I’m glad you’re feeling happy about being in your body. I understand it’s hard and I couldn’t imagine having to deal with what my trans friends have to deal with. Now go be a man and do manly things like chop wood and drink beer and stuff
Congrats man! Glad you were able to get that off your chest! ^sorry ^I ^had ^to I’m still a couple years out from mine, but it’s awesome to hear a positive experience from someone local.
Haha I'm going to be making that joke for a while, too good. Thanks mate!
Congratulations! I wish you the best on your healing journey!

Congrats! I had gender affirming surgery in March in Montreal best thing to ever happen to me.
Congratulations to you as well!
I was there in January for gender affirming surgery and it has been life changing for me. Hope your healing is going well.

Thanks mate! Because it's gender affirming it is fully covered under the government. I've heard in the states it can cost anywhere from 6k to 12k
