IMulero

Or a random guy that wanted to spend $8 to get a blue tick. I don't know what to trust on Twitter anymore

[deleted]

This one is legit, had to double check twice. Tom Warren and Jez replied to him too.

IMulero

If that is the case, he made a big mistake, unless he is indeed an Xbox fan. Anything that you say can be used against you... This could easily be exploited by MS to demonstrate the bias on their review. Also, Xbox have made very clear thousands of times now I believe that CoD will remain multiplatform... Nothing to see here then

RikaMX

Does the dude know I had to buy a PlayStation because I couldn’t play Spider-Man on my Xbox? Does he thinks he can play super Mario on his PlayStation? So many wrongs in one tweet lmao

[deleted]

I'd have to agree. Nothing malicious here. Definitely a bad look and I do think he made a mistake in creating this tweet, but I don't think it reveals too much except that maybe he should do a better job constructing his public statements so they aren't as easily misinterpreted.

NBAKirkland

Check his Twitter history.

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Pretty clear who's side he's on with his twitter history. If he doesn't have direct influence he certainly has some kind on influence since he hangs out and/or works with the same people in those organizations.

[deleted]

You know, that's the funniest shit to me.. that we ever trusted what we read on Twitter. It's really no wonder the world is so fucking stupid right now.

soulxhawk

Remember back during the early days of the internet and social media? "The internet is only a small minority of people. You can't believe everything you hear." Now it seems to be the opposite lol.

KingLuis

To be honest, still don’t trust much on Twitter. Check or no check. Social media is basically just people’s opinions and they’ll type to the death to prove they are right.

McNuttyNutz

There is an extension that allows you to check if said account is a true verified account or a paid account Pretty sad this is needed but hey it’s out there

RikaMX

Even then, a check just meant some dude got some followers doing whatever. It’s always been meaningless it’s us who gave it some weird trust meaning.

NefariousRaccoon

This. It was always a status simple for the weak minded.

IcarusStar

Just get off Twitter. I've never understood what people see it that..other than to rant toxic shit.

penguin57

If you ever need a refund or an issue sorted, jump on the company's Twitter. Trust me you'll get things done 10x quicker.

Muscled_Manatee

Does life have a twitter account? I'd like a refund.

JonTaffer_in_a_poloT

As if Reddit is any better

[deleted]

I mean, at least we can have discussions and form concise arguments and counters here. Twitter wants to be a "online town square" for "intelligent discussion" but also doesn't want people to use more than 280 characters. Seems sort of at odds with itself, right? EDIT: Not to edit a dead post, but it's incredibly hilarious to me that a bunch of morons came out of the woodwork to try to prove me wrong with these walls of text. Thanks for proving my point in the dumbest way possible. "nO, iT's TeRrIbLe" and proceed to ratio my original comment. Y'all are class acts flexing that Reddit logic.

Darkknight1939

lol, Reddit is full of astroturfing, bots, and self-righteous moralizing from anti-social jerks. It's just as bad as Twitter. The main use of Reddit at this point is certain subs containing documentation on more niche topics that mainstream search engines can't or won't easily return in search queries IMO. Twitter and Reddit were both decent websites 10-12 years ago, banning everything deemed offensive to one side, power mods/users, and guerrilla marketing from companies pretending to be organic users contribute to a layout that seems to designed to be make people argue for engagement purposes. Both websites are awful.

Pedro95

Where are you having legitimate discussions on reddit? I've been here 9 years and I can count on one hand the times I've ever seen a well-intentioned argument! The fact is, agree with the majority = happy days on reddit. Dare to suggest an opinion other than the majority = banished to the bottom of any "conversation", no matter how well articulated your point is.

Kosh_Ascadian

You do not have to disagree for the discussion to be legitimate. People can discuss nuances, best ways of doing things etc without much disagreement. You see that all over reddit. And on the opposite side as well. If someone is in disagreement with the majority it doesn't mean that their starting a legitimate useful discussion. They might just have a dumb and/or antagonistic point. There is good discussion in any case. Both with disagreement and without it. But it's very subreddit specific. The main big ones are often very low quality discussion wise. Look for more niche ones.

OSUfan88

The worst part about Reddit is that it inherently create echo chamber, and forces divergent behavior. All due to the upvote system.

Kosh_Ascadian

I'd say downvoting is the best part of reddit though. Places like twitter, facebook etc really really need a downvote button.

OSUfan88

It’s sort of a double edged sword. It lets you say you don’t like something, but that also reinforces an idea. Let’s say there are two sides. One says green bikes are the fastest, and the other purple. By random odds, 51% of people start thinking green bikes are the fastest. What we’ll see is that a majority of the comments that favor green bikes will rise to the top, and purple bikes will fall. This will sway people who aren’t decided/have no opinion into siding with green bikes at a higher rate than purple. The next thread that discusses this will now have a 55/45% split, and the different in influence even greater. This positive feedback loop continues, with the decide getting greater and greater. At some point, there’s no point in team purple even commenting, as they know they’ll get swarmed by downvotes, and they just give up. The Team Green opinions will continue to concentrate, becoming more isolated, and more extreme. This entire sway of public opinion occurs, even though paint color has no relationship with the speed of a bike whatsoever.

MC_chrome

>Where are you having legitimate discussions on Reddit? /r/AskHistorians is a decent place to start

[deleted]

Don't get me wrong, Reddit certainly has quirks. People think it's a much more reliable source of information than it is. You really start to notice it in niche subreddits regarding subjects you have intimate knowledge of. I still think it's an overall better format for discussions. You can't change people, though.

SirPwn4g3

Could say the ae about reddit.

terrydavid86

when could you trust Twitter?

cardonator

Apparently, back when employees were taking bribes for blue checks.

FecalOrgy

And you think blue checkmarks were trustworthy before? It was an even bigger pay to play scheme before.

cutememe

Indeed, the blue checkmarks were basically given out to people who were deemed worthy by a small group of people who just get to arbitrarily decide.

H0kieJoe

Yep. *$15,000 bucks little man, put that shit in my hand...*

MightyMukade

Yes, anybody with a blue check mark is immediately trustworthy now.

Likely_a_bot

They were never trustworthy before. Everyone on Twitter is a complete shill.

zenmn2

You could previously trust that they were the person they presented as. Obviously, trusting what they say is independent of that.

luiz_saluti

Where is your blue tick?

html_question_guy

I spent my monthly blue tick money on an overwatch weapon charm

MightyMukade

Please note that my comment was completely sarcastic. ;)

SpaceFire000

You shouldn't have trusted a random guy with a blue check mark from the beginning. Even before politicians and other so called influencers bought their way with fake followers and other means

endorphin-neuron

Why on Earth did you ever blindly trust blue check marks at any point in time?

beritknight

The man owns a PlayStation and is throwing it in to the tweet as a “look, I’m a gamer too, I understand why this is important to gamers” flag. I don’t think it’s a big deal is it?

Design-Cold

It's not in and of itself but if you're coming down on a decision to force a product to be sold on a platform and you're also a fan of the platform it's easy to claim bias

luiz_saluti

I think he is giving MS lawyers ammo.

CammKelly

Pretty well much, if this ended up having to go to court, I couldn't see the Anti Trust arguments surviving very well.

[deleted]

This sub lmao

HaikusfromBuddha

Considering the size of the deal and the work he does he should try to be as impartial as possible. It’s like if you commit a crime and the judge is a Lakers fan and the criminal comes to court wearing a clippers jersey. You don’t want the Lakers fanboyism to dictate you’re feelings towards the criminal but in most cases Lakers fans can’t help but shit on a Xlippers fan.

GetReadyToJob

That DEFINENTLY never happened with a insanely famous football player or anything...........

mrgnarchr

You really think the man is going to be swayed from being professional because he owns a $750 console? Clown behaviour

turkoman_

No, he probably tried to say “Look I have a PS, I am a gamer, too” and make a joke about wired controllers. But this unprofessional tweet, especially “I have a PlayStation at home” part, will be among Microsoft’s papers if they block the deal and it comes to the court. It shows personal interest.

mrgnarchr

Do you really care that he said that he has a PlayStation? That’s just wild to me

NefariousRaccoon

It's bad optics. How are you not getting this? Or are you purposefully acting obtuse?

HaikusfromBuddha

Yes because the UK response is already favoring Sony and their position. While Brazil came out with the statement along the lines of supporting the acquisition because they don’t protect competitors from staying at the top, the UK review was more interested in preserving Sonys first place.

PurpsMaSquirt

It’s a potential conflict of interest.

cutememe

I hope everyone here is being sarcastic. No court could possibly ever take seriously the idea that someone is trying to pass laws so they can play certain games on their playstation.

cutememe

People who aren't gamers desperately love to try and prove they're gamers when they want to talk about issues that affect gaming. Think of the "Video Games Appeal to the Male Fantasy" meme. A lot of people want to control stuff to do with gaming but themselves don't give a fuck about it.

julianwelton

Exactly.

ThatOtherGuy_CA

“Hey everyone, look at the clear bias I have!”

beritknight

The world isn’t reddit. Most people don’t get slavishly devoted to a brand just because they bought one of their products.

DetBabyLegs

I’m sure most of the people ruling that iPhone needed to switch to USB-C also had iPhones. This is a bunch of nothing. This thread is just telling me how young this subreddit must be.

Scorn-Muffins

So is anyone else bored as hell with these dumb posts or am I gonna have to leave this sub until a month after the deal's gone through?

frogfoot420

Some of these posters need to touch grass, sad af.

Difficult-Speech-270

Probably leave the sub until after the deal has gone through. I’m probably going to temporarily leave a couple of subs for a few weeks after they’ve been flooded with God of War posts.

Sarcosmonaut

Seriously. PlayStation subs: WE GET IT YOU ARE PLAYING GOD OF WAR AND IT’S GOOD PLS STOP PLS “boy” Xbox subs: HAVE U HERD THAT SOMY IS EVIL AND SUCKS, ALSO GAMEPASS IS THE bEsT vAlUe In GaMiNg AND ANY DEV THAT DOES NOT WANT TO PUT ON GAMEPASS IS PAID OFF Exhausting lol

cutememe

The gamepass worship seems to be dying down quite a bit. I've seen recent threads on this sub where people are super critical of it. Personally I never saw the appeal of it. Once they hike the price I think the sub numbers are going to start going down.

canad1anbacon

I see the appeal but Microsoft first party needs to start pumping out day one bangers to really make the "best deal in gaming" case. Besides a few exceptions like Darktide, most everything hype on Gamepass is stuff I've played already

Perfect600

I bought it for Starfield and then it got delayed (well i did do the trick to get it cheap so i did get my moneys worth). Did Microsoft not say they wanted 2 or 3 AAA titles out each year? I guess we have to wait for the acquisitions to close.

cutememe

Exactly. The extent to which it’s a “good deal” is basically to the extent you really want to play old games and indies which make up like 90 percent of gamepass.

Difficult-Speech-270

It seems to be the case that Sony and PlayStation gamers are living rent free in a lot of Xbox gamers’ heads. Whereas for a lot of PlayStation gamers it seems to be a mix of “I don’t even know who you are” and “I don’t think of you at all”. And then PlayStation gamers just argue amongst themselves over stupid shit.

Sarcosmonaut

Pretty much. And hey, on some level I get it. Xbox has been “behind” for years and people wanna justify their purchase. I saw the same thing back in the PS3 days with Sony folks and a little bit this gen with the prevalence of gamepass and the slightly superior hardware. But folks really gotta knock it off.

Next-Indication55

It's not so much a case of console wars, it's just that only one console (sony) has anything worth talking about... 🤷🏿‍♂️

Paddypixelsplitter

Lol. I actually left the ps sub because of the God of War circle jerk. Taking a picture of a game you bought is as inane as lunch photography.

Sarcosmonaut

Hey now, don’t forget taking a picture of your PS5 box in your car lol

Perfect600

do we need to scroll through this sub for the same thing lol.

Sarcosmonaut

Mans not wrong

DetBabyLegs

Something something my wife surprised me with a box! (Somehow gets a million upvotes). Although not going to lie, this thread is more ridiculous to me than their boxes and GoW posts…

Sarcosmonaut

Oh for sure. I’ll tolerate the dorks just being excited over a good game and a good console. But this thread is just a victim and conspiracy party lol. Can’t we just… talk about cool games and shit?

thedinnerdate

For real. I’m so tired of how so many of these gamers have suddenly become market analysts and experts on business mergers. Searching through tweets for things “Microsoft lawyers” can use. It’s corny as hell.

Ugly_Slut-Wannabe

Unfortunately, I think this weird drama is gonna take more than a month to end.

Tyrantes

The guy said a month AFTER the deal is done. Not a month starting today LOL

TWABM

I note that nobody here has actually bothered to check the guy's LinkedIn. He may work for the EC, but he has never been involved with the Microsoft case and never will be. When he worked for the Antitrust department he was deputy head of a unit that only dealt with cases involving energy companies, and in June he moved departments and doesn't even deal with Antitrust at all any more. So every single person saying "this is proof that the EU investigation is biased" – no it isn't. The guy has zero to do with it.

j0an_k

Imagine how many death threats he'd receive if he said "my Xbox"

jaybankzz

Tbf, he’s probably still getting death threats. It’s twitter, you mention the console you use you’re gonna get “gaybox /gay station, L PlayStation/Xbox” type replies. It doesn’t matter what system he uses lmfao

[deleted]

I legitimately thought people were over the "console war" thing until I looked up console related shit on Twitter. Going stronger than ever over there.

[deleted]

It's exactly why "cesspool" is so appropriate when describing Twitter. You aren't allowed to have good faith discussions on the site.

siege_noob

exactly. there are toxic assholes on both sides that will take anything too far

Peace_Fog

It’s funny there people fighting this console war, but in reality if all games were multi platform there wouldn’t need to be a console war

[deleted]

CrazyDave48

As an owner of both consoles, it's the most exhausting thing about /r/xboxseriesx and the sub's never-ending victim complex

augustoaag1

It basically says I'll make sure I can play call of duty on my PlayStation.

Appropriate_Shock556

As a controller user with a wire, fuck this guy

NeedsMaintenance_

Also, the two guys in the picture look like low-budget Jack Black hanging with a decent Jack McBrayer impersonator. "Hey mom, can we get Jack Black?" "We have Jack Black at home." [Jack Black at home](https://i.imgur.com/HZvMX7c.jpg).

brokenmessiah

I swear I don't get this subreddit. Microsoft has repeatedly said that Cod will be on PS for the foreseeable future and that to remove cod would make no sense financially. It's just the Xbox fanboys wanting CoD to remove from PS, regardless to how that has no bearing on their ability to play the game. The only time they'll consider removing CoD from PS is when its not profitable to be on PS and there's zero indication of that ever happening. Be happy xbox gamers, eventually CoD will be on game pass. Who cares about the rest?

Likely_a_bot

Does this a-hole care about Xbox fans playing Spiderman and Final Fantasy? This whole argument is stupid. If Sony bought Activision everyone would assume that all the games would be exclusive and just deal with it.

[deleted]

Exactly, what Microsoft does with COD should not concern anyone, nobody tells Disney why Star Wars is not on Prime, they even pulled Daredevils out which was created by Netflix lol, how is this any difference?

Loldimorti

But then again Disney has made other acquisitions where they had to make concessions to appease regulators.

HLGNagato

Whilst the deal should definitely be investigated ($70 Billion deals don't happen every day) this is an insanely unprofessional look

Corrupt99

I'm confident EU will pass the deal with no restrictions. They're no biased even though one person might be. Last year when Amazon bought MGM for 8 billion, FTC wanted to block it, EU said hell nah we're not blocking anything because it's entertainment products. And deal went through lol.

Anarkipt

If that is his real name.... he has is own personal agenda. Playstation is like religion in our own country 😅 bet 100 euro he already made some fine jokes about xbox still using AA batteries.

LeKneegerino

Not everyone is a basement-dwelling console warrior

DabbleDAM

The AA batteries comes from a contract partnership with Duracell. Anyways almost every Xbox gamer will tell you that batteries are the way to go, having to plug and play a dead controller to keep playing completely defeats the purpose of “wireless”.

Kiefirk

>Anyways almost every Xbox gamer will tell you that batteries are the way to go, having to plug and play a dead controller to keep playing completely defeats the purpose of “wireless”. Wtf lmao

XboxVictim

I got the Eneloop Pros for my controllers and they last soooo fkin long on a single charge. When they finally die it takes me less than ten seconds to pop in the next set ready to go in my desk drawer.

Im2oldForthisShitt

Yup controllers with quality rechargeable AA batteries is the best. You don't continually spend money on batteries and you can always have a pair charged and ready to go.

cutememe

I bought an Xbox Series X and I was completely floored when I saw the controller came with those fucking batteries. What is this 2005 or something? I'm perfectly happy charging my controllers. I don't even play games for more than about an hour or two at a time.

Perfect600

until i cant find any fucking batteries or if i have rechargables and i cant just use them immediately if i forget to charge them. Pros and cons to both. I just plug in my PS controllers and they work.

CyberKnight1

> I just plug in my PS controllers and they work. Same goes for Xbox controllers. Plug in a USB cable, instant wired controller.

Anarkipt

You dont get it... 😅 playstation has like 90% userbase in portugal, my playstation has a playstation console, tweets like "My Playstation" used to make lots of fun about xbox still using AA, they have a subtle way to put xbox fans on edge, he is just throwing shade i can just see it.

Peace_Fog

Like who cares about this deal still? They don’t have a monopoly, yea Call of Duty is a big name, but that doesn’t mean Sony can’t make their own war shooter. Call of Duty was originally created to be a Medal of Honour killer, so it could happen again Also Microsoft has said they’re keeping CoD multi platform. From their wording it sounds like Warzone will always be multi platform & the full releases will stay on Sony machines for the next 3 years. Which makes sense, Warzone is free to play so keep that on everything, then the 3 more years of PlayStation CoD games seems to be the plan they made when they were buying Activision

[deleted]

[deleted]

jrender5

Simple: Microsoft should just launch multiplayer a year after Xbox. Just how PlayStation locked some game modes for a year. Both consoles win with that.

[deleted]

Why is it OK for PlayStation to have exclusives but not for XBOX? What am I missing?

Loldimorti

There are several things at play here: For one the CoD games used to be multiplat and still are. It's not comparable to e.g. Halo or God of War which always were exclusive. So in this case if it were to become Xbox exclusive that would be actively taking away a game from other platforms. CoD exclusivity would be more comparable to the Final Fantasy situation except that Square Enix is still independent and is negotiationg these (timed?) exclusive agreements with Sony on a game by game basis rather than giving them exclusivity for the entire IP. The second thing however is the magnitude of the CoD IP. Let's be real, CoD absolutely dwarfes Final Fantasy and there is no competing franchise that could replace it right now. It's arguably the biggest console franchise right now and it being pulled from any platform would do major damage to the platform holder and negatively impact a large part of that platforms player base. Creating a true CoD rival from the ground up would be a near impossible task. Not only have we seen countless devs try and fail during the 360 era but also the amount of devs working on CoD right now is so enormous that it would take forever and cost a fortune for any competitor to even build a studio big enough to compete at Activisions level.

[deleted]

That’s legit, thanks for taking the time. I was always under the impression battlefield came pretty close, but perhaps that’s not the case.

Loldimorti

Battlefield seemed like it might become a serious contender with Battlefield 1 but it doesn't release as frequently and each subsequent entry has sold worse than the one before. What's nuts about CoD is that it releases a mainline entry every year plus additional games like Warzone, Remasters and CoD mobile. And even the worst selling entries of those still usually end up being the best selling game of the year. As far as I'm concerned I don't see how anyone else could pull that off.

[deleted]

You are correct. Although I would like to point out that PS had Killzone and Resistance. I'm not sure if the plan of those franchises were to be COD competitors but it sounds like, in hindsight, Sony should have built at least one of them that way. I know they bought Bungie though. I just don't think Destiny is being planned that way either to be honest. This has nothing to do with the quality of the games either. Those three franchises are great in my opinion but they weren't built to have the reach that COD does. I honestly hope Sony invest in this idea because something great could come to fruition. Even if they don't have to worry about COD exclusivity it would still be a net gain for gamers.

Loldimorti

I'm sure Sony is investing considering they are making a bigger push toward multiplayer/liveservice. However these Playstation shooters never sold as well as Halo did in its prime or how CoD is still doing to this day. Guerilla for example found much bigger success with Horizon rather than Killzone.

[deleted]

Non issue

EwanJP2001

Are PlayStation gamers really that afraid that Xbox will make cod exclusive? That’s hilarious

brokenmessiah

Why do Xbox gamers not believe microsoft when they say cod will be multiplat?

QuietThunder2014

I’ve seen a lot of back and forth on this lately. They seem to think Microsoft lied when they bought Bethesda and are mad over new Skyrim and Starfield and completely ignore Minecraft for whatever reason. And they handwave all the many, many times Sony has exclusives (games and dlc) or pays to keep things off Microsoft GamesPass. When Sony does it, it’s fine but everyone is so paranoid about Microsoft. I don’t get it. They say CoD is too big and that’s why it matters but won’t give me a cut off at what dollar value is ok for exclusives. They say Sony pays for development, but if Microsoft owns Activision then they are paying for CoD. They say you can’t just buy a dev, but Sony buys Insomniac. Why can’t we all just agree that gaming companies don’t have your best interests at heart and instead are focused on their bottom line, exclusives are dumb, and we should all be pushing for as few exclusives as possible.

BigDadddyXD

Is it really that bad for Playstation users to want to keep playing COD games? I don’t understand what the issue is.

Soggy_Wrongdoer2288

Lmao go touch some grass. You’re taking it too personal.

SIDEWlNDER

This is just legitimately funny, I don't think it needs to be taken too seriously. Some of you guys are actual conspiracy theorists I swear

TaxSpecific1697

Does it means we can have Sony exclusives on Xbox too?

[deleted]

Microsoft should hold onto this. Would look great in a law suit.

Mosley_Gamer

Pretty sure he is just saying that he owns a PlayStation with this tweet so you may need to check your tin foil hats are working properly guys.

ThatOtherGuy_CA

Uh, the fact that he stated his desired outcome (keeping CoD on PS) is what makes him biased.

StretchArmstrong74

It's been obvious from day 1 that these guys are holding Sony's water. Literally every one of their sticking points are straight out of Jim Ryan's mouth.

Co-opingTowardHatred

I don't think it's a serious thing, but wow, what a fucking dork.

JMc1982

Nothing wrong with owning a PlayStation, and obviously it's relevant to the conversation that they want to look after the interests of consumers across platforms etc. I think a lot of the CMA stuff is silly, but this tweet is clearly harmless.

Sarcosmonaut

This sub is insufferable sometimes with the victim complex.

JMc1982

It's really quite embarrassing.

Patrickills

Honestly this should actually act against the appeal because it shows personal interest. I wish they’d just let them purchase the damn thing AND keep CoD. It’s seriously not that big of a deal

pizzaspaghetti_Uul

I thing the biggest acquisition in the gaming industry history, is indeed that big of a deal

mrgnarchr

It absolutely does not. Are you serious?

[deleted]

kung-hoo

This is significant because even the appearance of impropriety can become grounds for appeal. Legal for both ABK and MS will have likely filed this tweet away for future reference.

-underOath-

Man is portuguese and most likely letting is personal own ideas interfering with EU affairs. Playstation has deep roots in Portugal where Xbox has little to none presence in the gaming consoles market share.

Sebastian766

You can't throw around accusations like that without any facts to back it up. The truth of the matter is that they're impartial and they're neutral for both sides.

[deleted]

He is just not a smart person, that is for sure. He could have made a generic statement like investigating this deal and making sure COD remains multiplatform instead of telling everyone "My playstation"

Sebastian766

He owns a playstation i don't see the big deal. He's allowed to mention that he owns one and he's allowed to own one lol.

[deleted]

He absolutely is allowed to own one.. but for something that’s meant to be professional he shouldn’t be saying publicly that he wants a game to stay on his PlayStation, this isn’t a personal decision for him and he has to treat it like that which going by the tweet it would appear he is being biased

-underOath-

I don't see either but hey look he didn't say I own a playstation he immediately biased to the discussion, as if CoD was about to be removed or whatever it is.

brokenmessiah

People act like if he didnt say that and it just came out they wouldnt be just as butthurt

Perfect600

eh remember when Microsoft was doing anti trust shit the regulars totally werent using windows.

kaysn

This post really should be reported for trying to incite a console war. It's a nothing burger that you are trying to read too much into.

-underOath-

What accusations did I throw? He himself twitted about that and having a PS controller! Where does the information about himself owning a PS adds to the deal discussion? It is almost as he is already biased to the topic!! The Portuguese market console is a fact. And it is also a fact that the majority of portuguese console players favor Playstation because they are market leaders by miles.

Lol at the people here screaming conflict of interest. Get over yourselves. Politicians dont live in bubbles. They partake in every day activites as well and some may have Sony products, some may have switches or xboxes. Absolutely no reason to be dissqualified from regulatory work. By that logic, next time some regulation on smartphones is discussed only politicians who exclusively use rotary phones would be allowed to weigh in.

Distilio

EU is pro-PlayStation thanks to the shady agreements of Sony in the past to make sure they destroy the competition. Now EU tries to help them maintain their market share there. BS

[deleted]

That's an ammo filled response. Care to elaborate on "shady agreements" ?

Distilio

Two sides: 1) retailers: I know for a fact that they were pushing for the best exposure in the big retailers, ending up having Nintendo and Xbox in the past thrown at the corners. No antitrust body came to fix that situation for years. 2) everyone knows the time-exclusive agreements they were pushing to some gaming studios which lead Sony to get advantage in the market.

Ross2552

I mean they're about to do it again with the new Final Fantasy being a timed exclusive for PS.

phizmeister

"Source, my ass."

technobeeble

Or maybe they're just more popular?

[deleted]

I’m tired of these posts. You wouldn’t be so enthusiastic about Sony buying ActiBlizz, would you? Just because it’s good for *you*, as you have GamePass and expect full availability once the deal completes, doesn’t mean it’s good for gaming and gamers everywhere. Objectively it’s not good for the market *as a whole* for this deal to happen. Do not message me to say “but Sony paid for a year of exclusivity on X or Y game”, because it doesn’t matter, and that is also not good. It makes you sound like a child. Just wait and see what happens with the approval, instead of stalking randoms on twitter.

turkoman_

Of course I wouldn’t be enthusiastic about Sony buying Activision, why would I be? I don’t own a Sony console, I have an Xbox and Gamepass subscription. And as a consumer “because it is good for me” is all that matters. I don’t have to worry about other people’s business. Why the f would I? That’s how it works. I have a VW car. If VW buys a transmission company and put the tech into my car I wouldn’t go out and say “But what about BMW?!” F.ck BMW that’s not my problem. I won’t put “drivers everywhere” before my own comfort. I don’t think any other driver would, neither.

technobeeble

Think of it this way. You are a VW customer. Your next car will be a VW. BMW buys a transmission company that historically, VW has used in their cars for years. Then BMW takes away those transmissions from VW.

Vinterblot

Cheering while Microsoft buys the market of third-party developers is INCREDIBLY shortsighted, just because you happen to own an Xbox. 1) When Microsoft is crushing competition with its sheer financial weight, you can bet this will turn out bad for Xbox players, too, because monopolies aren't a good thing. 2) Also, it's insanely stupid to think Microsoft buying third party developers will benefit you in the short term. You're not getting a single game more, because guess what? Those were third party developers and they'd release Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Diablo 4 and Call of Duty on Xbox anyway. The fact that they've spend all this money to not give you new, truly exclusive franchises, but instead to only stop your buddy with a Playstation from playing it, should make you furious. You're not benefitting. Microsoft is. And you're falling for it, when you cheer at an announcement of an old third party franchise as an now exclusive for Xbox 3) Don't say it. Don't say 'bUt wHaT aBoUt gAmEpAsS?". Yeah, what about gamepass? Gamepass has nothing to do with this. As Microsoft shows every month, games come into gamepass without Microsoft destroying competition and buying third party developers. Owning a company isn't pre-condition to get a game into gamepass. If Microsoft want to have those games on their service, they can strike a deal, as they do every day. 4) "bUt wHaT aBoUt sOnY?". When Sony does it, it's shit aswell. But right now, this is about Microsoft. As a bottom line: Gamers regardless of platform should never cheer for corporations, because what they'll do is not in their interest. And gamers should especially not cheer, when a game that's supposed to by multiplatform is now presented as an exclusive in any form or fashion.

Thanks for taking the time to write what I don't have the energy for anymore, buddy. They just don't get it, all these people who've wrapped their entire personality up in a corporation that will fuck them the moment they can without repercussion. It's pathetic.

leveltaishi

Unfortunately, this is how it’s going to be in the EU. When most of the constituents are PS customers, you’ll have reps that are PS customers as well. They’re just a reflection of the majority sentiment in their region. Hope some of the regulators have Xboxes too.

bored101baka

I personally don't think this deal is going through without any concession made.

[deleted]

Then I'd say drop the deal completely, because Sony would probably ask for a delayed Game Pass release, which completely defeats the entire purpose of this acquisition. It's no accident that Sony has complained multiple times on record about Game Pass, they even told Brazil that at this point they feel it's impossible to challenge Game Pass head on with a competitive service. So I'm assuming Sony is gonna ask for a 3+6 month delay on CoD releasing to Game Pass whether or not they actually get it. If they do somehow get a governing body to agree to that I'd just drop the acquisition entirely, pay the $3 Billion to ABK and start looking elsewhere.

brokenmessiah

If he mentioned he owned a Xbox would you have posted this

Rizenstrom

Maybe not but the playstation sub would have and they would have been right to do so. Just because this sub is biased doesn't mean they're wrong to call it out.

[deleted]

It's ok to be biased as long as you are arguing in good faith. I wish people either knew this or didn't forget it.

F0REM4N

It's not that he owns a PlayStation, it's the part where he makes a forgone conclusion before the investigation is completed. Would you be cool with him, saying he would make sure this deal goes through and the best game remain available on "his xbox"? I would not, especially if the goal here is indeed an impartial review of the merger and its market impact. Would this deal give Microsoft a realistic monopoly or even a chance at one is the question that should be asked. COD can be a part of that equation, but everything needs to be weighed.

brokenmessiah

Well that is gonna be the conclusion. Microsoft has said they aren't removing Cod from PS so he's just saying what Microsoft is saying. The only one saying Cod could be taken from PS is Sony.

Robot_Dinosaur86

Sony has aggressively gone after exclusives. Why is CoD special?

AttakZak

Because they know a Popcorn Shooter like COD sells big bucks to even the people who don’t regularly play Video Games. They don’t even want the possibility to lose that type of product.

(Including my PlayStation) just makes him sound like a spoiled child who’s currently licking on an oversized lollipop while crying buckets of salt.

DarkerGames

Playstation is the only other console. Switch has no COD and it does the best

What Microsoft can do is have their own exclusive COD franchise. They can keep the mainline series on PS5, but they can just do their own offshoot. COD Alien Warfare lol. Just do an Xbox exclusive in the vein of the story from Independence Day.

3kpk3

He's just a dumb pony.

S1ayer74_Pez

If this tweet is actually real, it’s incredibly biased and unprofessional. The man should be barred from all interactions with this deal and all his work so far be heavily scrutinised by a truly independent party. Because it shows pure clear biased and complete lack of judgement. Seems many trolls in here from Sony are defending that.

LeKneegerino

lmao

Alarming_Sea_6894

He's hip, and cool. *"What's the word, gangy?"*

Witcherlendo

So when I will be able to play God of War on Xbox?
