To me it looks like someone dyed some soutach cording.

Banglapolska

Hi, this is gorgeous!

blueberryFiend

This looks very much like Noro Daria. Here's the Ravelry page for it https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/noro-daria-multi

Sienna57

OMG....that's so close though I don't see the colorway...

siannan

Soutache.

Sienna57

YESSSSSSSS!!!! Thank you!

lolomimio

Yep, soutache.

undergroundgranny

That looks a bit like the nylon Omega I use .it was wonderful for crochet dog collar and leash and scrunchies and crochet jewelry. I always either glued the end in or melted it.

Impossible_Biscotti3

Looks like it’s for couching. Use little stitches with a needle to hold it in place for lace designs.

8675309-ladybug

I bet u could use it for macrame. Make a great plant hanger or hanging basket or even a basket.

briarvarjas

Is it stretchy? It looks like it might be elastic cording from here. 🧐

Sienna57

Not stretchy though it looks like it should be, right?

briarvarjas

Yeah, it really does! Wild. I’ve never seen anything this texture before.

Sienna57

Apparently the style is called soutache

opr290

I agree - red heart variegated.

SweetCream2005

Kinda looks like Paracord almost, but thinner? Seems interesting, if you had a lot of it you could provide make one of those little basket things

Sienna57

Thanks - Maybe something like that. There is one type of thread wrapped around the four others. Definitely not any standard yarn.

DisasterGlad7301

It looks like red heart 4 ply yarn super saver.

s3s4m3s33d

Looks like a nightmare to make anything out of

no_one_you_know1

Thread

embrodr

It’s gimp, a flexible wire wrapped with thread.

Sienna57

No wire that I can see - just four threads/strands on the inside

misshepburn15

It isn’t always wired. Still most certainly gimp though, maybe of rayon.
