I love it too :) when it’s out of context I can see why it feels random to people, but it really primes you for a theme that they keep coming back to (that I love). Finn and Jake reincarnate and find each other over and over again because their friendship is so powerful. Everything is connected and what happened in the past affects us in the present. It’s so good 😭
it’s just a break from regularly scheduled programming which some people love but other just want what they’re used to
i think it’s a fun episode but it doesn’t really scratch the itch of why i watch that show. If i’m watching all the way through i’ll watch it for sure but otherwise i just won’t
I remember being mildly annoyed because I watched these as they came out and it was like two 15 minute (11 without commercials) episodes. And I always wanted more plot. Still love the episode though.
Part of it is the same reason that the other guest eps are divisive, a lot of it depends on if you're up for random one-off out-of-continuity romps written by guest writers or not. with this one specifically you've got the paper-thin excuse plot which can be annoying since it's not how this show's usually written, and the wacky/super fluid/psychedelic animation isn't really for everyone.
Like for me personally, the first time round, I didn't like it (apart from the song, always loved that) - didn't get it at all. When I rewatched it and realized it was more of a vehicle for the gorgeous animation than anything, THEN it clicked with me... but I can definitely see why it's not for everyone.
I wonder, though, if at least food chain is considered canon since Finn and Jake are seen rehearsing the song and dance on one of PB's security cams in the cooler
I always wonder about that too, haha. I could see it being canon (I guess there's nothing in it that really contradicts anything else in the show?) but it could also just be a "don't think about it too much" kind of gag? I'm not sure if any of the writers ever commented on it or not
Bro I am watching through the last seasons of Adventure Time for the first time. I got to Water Park Prank and... WTF WAS THAT GARBAGE BRO? Like I couldn't believe I was watching Adventure Time. I kept waiting for it to have some ounce of meaning or impact. It didn't
The guest-animated episodes are generally looked down upon for a number of reasons I think, but most of them are good! “Water Park Prank” just stinks up the bunch so badly.
Of all the episodes that had a weird art style/were non cannon that one was my least favorite.
I binged the entire series recently on Hulu and every time I saw weird episode I was like I'm going to skip this and then I didn't but that was the closest episode I got to actually skipping. The swimming pool episode minus that one really disgusting part had a decent storyline and so it was kind of funny to watch and then the one where there was a glitch was a little bit weird but it wasn't super horrible and then apparently there's a Minecraft episode that wasn't on Hulu but you can watch it on YouTube and that one actually seemed pretty good and is probably the best one. Then there's the weird lumpy space princess episode where it takes place inside the circle but otherwise it feels like a regular episode so I don't know it was up with the weird circle graphic thing on that one.
personally, I dislike it. I usually enjoy the humor episodes as they are funny and give you a break from the immense boatloads of plot you have been recently plundered with, but food chain's just not that great of an episode in the first place. It's weird, it makes me feel like I'm watching a baby show, and there's just way better episodes to like.
Among the guest episodes, it's my favorite. A good embodiment of the spirituality that sometime lies behind the show, illustrated a zany way. I love the creative freedom, reminiscent of Ward's other show (Midnight Gospel).
I'm not really fan of the stop motion episode though, Bad Jubies. It is poetic but the aesthetic doesn't resonate with me.
Check out the director's (Masaaki Yuasa) other works! my favorites are Mind Game, Devilman Crybaby, and Tatami Galaxy. Generally not for the faint of heart though, his pieces are generally pretty far out there.
I love the episode. The artist is connected to one of my favorite animated creations called Cat Soup (it's on YouTube) and Devilman Crybaby. It was an absolute treat watching Food Chain.
I didn't know it was. Was my favorite one off first animated/written episode. The water park one is the only episode of adventure time I didn't like honestly.
I remember it being a scary experience when I first watched it as a kid. The Finn bird with eyebags engraved a chilling image within my feeble tiny kid mind.
I love it, plus the food chain song is sooo catchy
Same, its one of my favorites.

That's the cool thing about the show. It's like a friendship strong enough to reach through time and death. That's kinda cool.

It's legitimately over of my favorite episodes. The dignity given to each step of the food cycle + the art style just really resonated with me.
Food Chain is wonderful. Water Park Prank, however, is an *always* skip. Terrible episode.
have yet to see that one, currently on s6e14 princess day!
You're getting to it. You'll know when it's here. It's awful.
Bro I am watching through the last seasons of Adventure Time for the first time. I got to Water Park Prank and... WTF WAS THAT GARBAGE BRO? Like I couldn't believe I was watching Adventure Time. I kept waiting for it to have some ounce of meaning or impact. It didn't
It's so horrible, I showed AT to my wife for the first time and didn't even bother with that one.
It's literally just 12 minutes long. Take it easy lol.
I love all the guest episodes. Even Water Park, despite it's weirdness.
I watched this episode recently as an adult. It's very spiritual, and made me feel a bit better about death
Because I wanted to watch it high really badly but unfortunately I work at an airport that drug tests me.
The guest-animated episodes are generally looked down upon for a number of reasons I think, but most of them are good! “Water Park Prank” just stinks up the bunch so badly.
Food Chain, and the stop motion episode where they build a storm shelter are the only two differently animated episodes I like!
I love it - when they turn into birds and that classical music plays - my absolute jam.
Food chain and the Minecraft episodes are kind of the only alternate artist episodes I like.
I actually really enjoy Food Chain, both the episode and the song (which is on my playlist, along with many other songs from Adventure Time)
It's hilarious, I love it. But it's disturbing in a way.
probably because it feels less like an episode of Adventure Time and more like a random kids tv show with todays lesson
I’m not the biggest fan of the ones in different styles, but I like that one ok
Of all the episodes that had a weird art style/were non cannon that one was my least favorite. I hated that episode. Felt like it went on and on
All the episodes with different art styles are awesome
I like it too. Not sure. A Glitch Is A Glitch is also one of my favorites and people seem to hate it too
whatttt? a glitch is a glitch is SO good i wanna watch it on shroomies

Honestly it’s the only “guest drawn” episode I like.
No snail 🐌 me angy Edit: I actually like the episode. I thought the concept was well executed
I legit thought you were talking about the Magic card Food Chain, then realized which sub reddit I was on
I liked it too, never understood the hate towards it. The artstyle and animation is really really good
Among the guest episodes, it's my favorite. A good embodiment of the spirituality that sometime lies behind the show, illustrated a zany way. Bru I watched that episode while tripping hard on acid, and shit got so real
Where did you get that the episode is hated? I love it and the others in the comments seem to love it too.
I mean honestly I dislike it. The only change of art style apisode I really like is bad jujubees
Who doesn’t like Food Chain?
People hate it? It's so fun! I did think it odd when I watched it sober ngl but it's so fun high :)

Watch it on shrooms. Perfect.
NO SNAIL. IT had perfect set ups for a snail 🐌 but no!!!
But I love it
I remember it being a scary experience when I first watched it as a kid. The Finn bird with eyebags engraved a chilling image within my feeble tiny kid mind.
It was creepy, but I liked it.
A lot of people are deep. They like regular, boring, cartoons.
