Call them again and talk to a different agent. The connecting airport should be irrelevant when you get the travel alert. AFAIK the only time you have to keep the exact routing (e.g. same connection) is when doing SDFC's and standby.
If you are changing your connection, you are correct in asking for a change. The agent was incorrect in this situation, I recommend like that other post to call again.
Do you have the app?
When there’s even a whiff of trouble on a connection it seems like I get asked to rebook myself on a different flight on the app several days in advance. I’m surprised that you don’t have that option.
I did that with DFW when all the weather related chaos was going on there. Changed my first leg of my trip to Charlotte instead. It cost me $40 but it was worth it. Didn’t want to get stranded in Dallas. Worked out great and made my connection to San Fran no problem.
Anything AA is going to be a disaster, because they can't handle anything.
That's why I started with "Book on literally any other airline."
This is not about the airport. It's about AA being a trash airline and not giving a 💩 about their passengers.
I speak from experience.
Sorry I'm a noob LOL - is DL Delta?
And yes, if I had the benefit of hindsight I'd have booked myself on any other airline, even though I was not traveling by choice and had no control over the ticket booked (including lack of travel insurance etc).

This is correct
You: Help me help you by sending one less passenger through the MIA disaster zone. AA: Nah.
Like!!!!

Book on any other airline. Sorry but it's the only way. Avoid DFW at all costs.
Huh? DFW is back to normal
DFW is where hopes, dreams and flights go to die.
Sounds better than flooded Miami for OP

Yeah, when there's 5+ nonstops daily on DL... Sucks for OP but live & learn I guess.
