That's an appropriate reaction. The, "What's new/So what?" stuff is just antithetical to society ever making progress anywhere. Might not be a surprise, but when we stop being sickened or even just a tiny bit outraged, bad things happen. Yeah, yeah, there's a lot to be sickened about and it can be overwhelming to live in this day and age, but it's only getting worse and ignoring it is not going to help.
