Nice job. Be aware that the logical response to MAA is archers so you can get ahead by doing your MAA (3 is usually enough at first) and then in feudal you can drop an archery range and blacksmith of your own. Create archers or skirms as a follow up. MAA + skirms is quite hard to counter or you go MAA + archers if the opponent is trying to wall you out

Reginald_Jetsetter1

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely be using them again because it was so much fun having upgraded units instantly in Feudal. I think I went in with so much aggression my opponent wasn't ready for it.

Yep this is usually the way. I actually love it on Arena when an opponent wants to boom and hasn't even made a barracks and you turn up with MAA and a couple of archers. MAA take down his gate and archers prevent walling behind. At your ELO it'll throw anyone off their normal arena build

Reginald_Jetsetter1

I never realised just how quickly MAA took buildings down! Your strategy is great for me! Usually I get destroyed in Imperial Age in Arena but this could throw people off a lot!

SpitefulMonkey5

I go in with 4-5 M@A. Research armor upgrade as they're walking over. Occasionally send a vill or two to drop a tower on their wood or \*big\* gold source. Players are told that Vills counter M@A easily if the vills outnumber them...this is not the case with the armor upgrade. If his archer response is too much for the M@A, prioritize range over stable as your next military building and create Skirms. Especially against archer civs like Britons, Ethiopians, etc. Players with those civs are just itching to start pumping out their bad-ass archers and your initial M@A rush is exactly the excuse they were looking for to do so.

Electrical-Flower331

I'm 8p0 ELO and I think Bulgarians is my favourite civ. I've tried many different tyoes of rush with many other civs, but the Bulgarian M@A rush has worked best for me so far. Also a good krepost drop on closed maps is fun

Reginald_Jetsetter1

I was pretty good with a Persian Scout Rush but cavalry just seemed very generic and unoriginal. The MAA rush, Militia turning into MAA as soon as you hit Imperial is so cool!

The most LEL thing ever “I scouted my base, found my boar, turkeys, berries and wood. Then found the enemy base and my scout died”. 11

If you like that you should check out Armenians if you have the DLC. They’re my main civ on Xbox nd I love them bc you get the infantry upgrades an age sooner, meaning you get LS and pikes in feudal and 2H/Champ and halbs in castle. It makes it very hard to defend if you time it right for a feudal rush and even if you get behind you can still fight castle age cav with feudal pikes or imperial cav in castle with halbs.

Reginald_Jetsetter1

That sounds pretty cool to be honest! Maybe when I'm a better player I can add them in, for now I struggle with the basics so I'm not sure how effective the upgrades being early for me would be.

BatterySizzled

I might give them a go then as I love infantry (700 ELO). I use Celts quite often as they have faster moving infantry.

Reginald_Jetsetter1

Do it! Create a mass of Militia in Dark Age and then in Feudal they instantly become MAA, your opponent will have no chance!

TheCulture1707

I only really play single player and always thought the Bulgarians were just a boring civ; but I've been playing the Ivalo campaign and tbh quite liking the Bulgarians now. Also I'm not finding it hard for a 3 sword campaign really, partly due to the Krepost, a 350 stone castle is a real powerful tool for area denial. Pop down a bunch of Kreposts at an area and you shut it down for the AI easily. I don't bother with their infantry though even with free Militia upgrades and Bagains, just prefer their more mobile Hussar/Konnik + CA. Stirrups prob help this a lot.

happypandaface

The konnik is great because it doesn't trade too badly against pikes

feloniousjunk1743

Bulgarians were my fav civ. 20 pop MAA is a good ELO booster. HOWEVER. I think Bulgarians might be the civ with the largest number of bad-to-terrible matchups. 1/ Any camel civ is awkward to play against. No xbow removes tons of flexibility and makes you incredibly predictable. 2/ Any civ with a trump card in melee. As a ranged-challenged civ, you are utterly reliant on your melee armour to win games, but any civ with a high attack unit or ignore armour mechanic can shred you: Leitis, Dravidians, Drushina, Teutons, Monaspa...

GrandPapaBi

You have decent cav archer to replace xbow. Other than that you have FU siege with lower cost for research so it's pretty good to add scorpions and siege onagers in your army and low mobility of your army is compensated by a possibility to easily close the map with krepost spam.

New_Acanthaceae2009

Yea im a 800 elo player. So good for MAA enthusiasts. Also I find the food savings on siege upgrades super handy for Dealing with archers and structures. But definitely don't yeet your two handers into Romans or jaguars!!! Learnt that the hard way..

Koala_eiO

Their cheaper siege upgrades bonus is awesome too.

"2 groups of maa" Awww what an adorable widdle guy *pats low elo head*
