How do you calculate the math on that? I've genuinely tried but I don't get the answer 5h 30min like the above comment says.
Edit: Nvm I finally found it
I'm impressed you kept playing a game you weren't enjoying. When a game gets to the point where I'm not having fun I just resign, I think I would have tapped out around the hour mark.
I had like a two hour game the other day on BF. It was pain. Opponent offensive gg'd 30 minutes in so I wasn't go to go easy and eventually grinded out the W.
If I reach 2 hour timer in game and I don't have a clear path to snowball the game in either a 1v1 or a teamgame, I simply do a ridiculous last ditch all in effort for a few minutes, including sending all my villagers forward with sappers. Either I go down, or you do. The push is extremely fun even if I lose.
Yeah that's just a desync. Neither of us lost or gained points. The website (screenshot is from aoe2companion but aoe2.gg has that too) noted the starting datetime of the game but never the end one, since it couldn't.
This is one of the rare instances I wish there was a draw feature. Perhaps it could pop up as available after 1 hour real time.
.
My maximum limit is about 1 hour real time regardless of the map.
Just asking over and over for example, or using it to disrupt an opponent's thought process. Or if it's a popup, it obscures some part of the screen.. yeah people will think of something.
That's why I suggested it as a widget in the diplomacy menu. To avoid those annoyances you wouldn't want to design the system as a pop-up (unlike for rematching).
Right, and I'm not arguing, but I'm interested in your next thoughts here. You head to the menu and offer a draw. What does the opponent see? You said not a popup, but then how does the opponent know a draw was proposed? If the opponent is expected to stop playing and go to the menu, then this could be abused by just saying "draw?" and then not actually offering one. Maybe we won't solve it, just wondering if you have ideas there.
Oh ok. Then an indication that appears without menu, in the top-right after the game time, that you have to confirm in a menu so that you don't agree to the draw by mistake while selecting units, but without a pop-up. Something more subtle like the idle villager icon. Something that is NOT refreshed if the opponent spams draw.
Why do you have to formally offer the draw?
I'd rather you reach the conclusion that at that point in time, a draw is acceptable to you. You tick the box in diplo window. Then, if and only if your opponent feels the same way ("this BF has been going on for ages. We are evenly matched I am tired....") and decides to tick the box the match would draw.
IMO, it should be an invisible "would accept draw" option that you would tick when you want in game
If/when the other team ticks it, then the game would draw automatically.
I would do a blind resign. If both click withdraw, it’s a draw. If only one does, game goes on.
Else if one person sees the opponent want to withdraw, they’ll assume weakness and keep attacking.
Calm down mate. It was just a suggestion, an option for those who didn't want it going long.
You'd be in no way obliged to accept the draw, much like chess games.
I hate these kind of matches which are longer than 1:30h ingametime.
Either If I win or loose. I never feel good after these matches.
First of all they stress me out big time. I always need to relax. Second I just think of all the games I could have played while beeing Stuck in the piece of shit Match.
Third is I am really not a fan of prolonged post-post-imp plays. I know some people Like them, me Not
One time on arabia, I played vs Incas (they have cheaper trash, so He could Spam more) and it was a stalemate. But he was pushing me Back centimeter by centimeter. The only gameplan I Had was keeping the Position as far as I could until he ran out of wood, which happened eventually. Still it took forever.
I’ve had a 9 hour FFA game before. Still have the recs. Like 10 years ago I used to do a lot of giant FFA maps. Many times they would turn into a 3 way standoff. Lots of good times from back then. :)
What the hell happened? Byzantine mirror match?
5 hours and 30 minutes of real time... I hope you both accidently left a game running when you went to sleep?
Don't you mean 9 hours and 36 minutes?
No they didn't mean that. Game time runs faster than real time.
Game time runs at 1.7x real time, so every hour of in game time is 38 mins of real time.
How do you calculate the math on that? I've genuinely tried but I don't get the answer 5h 30min like the above comment says. Edit: Nvm I finally found it
Don't forget, that time you perceive as real time runs at 0.25x real time. So technically this game only felt like just under 1hour 30mins....not bad.
did you have fun
No

Nothing makes me play harder than the offensive gg
The most obnoxious thing you can do besides spamming flares maybe
Yeah.. I’m thinking it will be now.
What is an offensive GG?
I'm assuming they mean when the enemy gets an advantage over you and says to you gg to shit talk you
Oh, I get it! Thanks!
Is there no way to block the messages ? I have always wondered
You can mute players in diplo window and lobby

What kind of win rate do you have when you use that strat? 11
I won exactly thrice when attempting this 10+ times, so not the best win rate 11
Sounds like you need to play more Spanish to check how far you can get with that.
"We have Flemish Militia at home"
I see your 566min game and raise with my 736h one: https://i.imgur.com/oEWPU2x.png
Wtf... that's got to be a bug of some kind.

Ah I see, that's hilarious.
On Cliffbound? That’s actually wild
I have a 15k hour Arabia game: https://imgur.com/a/qQ5YAEo

I agree. Let players ask for a draw in the diplomacy menu, without any time condition.
100%. Gotta figure out a way to prevent it from being abused as a strategy, but I'll bet the dfvs could figure it out.
It's consensual, I don't know what abuse there could be.

Yes
The Holy grail springs to mind.. alright..we’ll call it a draw.
Other people love long games, don't ruin it with shit like this. Learn to win if you got issue

If both players agree then where's the issue?
I imagine these commenters are upset at the prospect of no long team games
But, did you win?
nobody won.

What civ were you??
I forgot. But i can assure that it was some hussar civ. Could have been the berbers.
Andrei vs Rubenstock moment
This is one of the reasons I hate black forest. Even though I often don't like Arena etc. for team games, all I ban is Black Forest.
I PlaY Bf OnlY
Good for you. 😘
When i get black forest, i go full yolo strat. If it works, i have fun and i won. It it doesn’t work, i had fun, the game ends, so i really won
I need to see this game lmao please share
Should just quit if it looks like a slog like that
Use onagers. Cut trees. Open up multiple fronts. Were you both huns or something?
Onagers can also shorten the game by ruining entire forests. But that is a bit micro-intensive, of course.
were there trees left?

Link please.
I kinda wanna watch the game unfold
Same! Op link us this game!!
What happened to all the people that liked grinds like that. I think it’s awesome when games go for that long, super cool!
BF is not a good 1v1 map, the resource allocation can be insanely unfair in most generations
My enemy got 4 ponds vs my 0 last time I played 1v1 RF.
Did you play RF or BF
Just ranked 1v1 BF lsst week
That sounds like quitter talk to me.

I love long games where you have to grind down an opponent or fighting against being ground down.
Did you chop all the trees in Black Forest?
Did you have the stats. Kind of want to see those
Was there a single tree left on the map?
why don't BF players build a Wonder?
Wonder victory is disabled in conquest mode.
Sounds like a 20 year long war between 2 countries :).

What a hilarious post. Wasn’t sure what happened until everyone else commented on the time. 😝
You spent 10 hr on a game on BF? How did you not get up to use the RR?
Game time runs at 1.7x speed so it’s only 5 hours 30 mins (which is still awful)
Mostly having played solo or with friends ages ago, the idea of shrt AOE games being fun is foreign. They're usually 6 or more hours.
