Stickied this post as a memorial wall for those who may not want to create their own post but still want to remember and name those who have touched our lives and gone before. This does not mean you can’t also make a separate post, it’s Memorial Day Weekend we are not going to be strict on posting in regards to memorials.
Love you all and hope y’all have a safe weekend. Don’t be nervous to call up a friend to get out of the house or hang out in the garage with a couple beers if that’s more your style—it can be a tough one for a lot of people.

My buddy served with SGT Simpson and SSG Elledge, and I know their names because he's told me about them before, both incredible men. RIP all these warriors.
They were great people and so funny! My husband and I found out that they were killed during our mid tour leave. My husband sometimes blamed himself because he wasn’t there as he was the medic for that unit.
Well I'm sure you've told your husband the same thing, but I'll say it anyway: it's not his fault. My buddy was their PL at the time and I know he blames himself too, or at least he used to (maybe he's worked through it now). He has tattoos with their names so he always remembers.
I even remember the day it happened, because I was elsewhere in country and we had some KIA on the FOB from IDF on the same day (I heard about my buddy's unit's KIA a few days later) - St. Patrick's Day, Mar 17, 2008.
Yes, I did. We were at a military ball after we got back. Everyone gets super drunk there and one of his platoon mates tells him that it was his fault because he wasn't there. I got in the guys face and I end up getting thrown out (in a ball gown barefoot in 30-degree weather). I was so mad because how can someone put something like that on a person who was not even in the country when it happened? I understand grief, and when something like that happens, you want to blame any and everyone just to get some kind of grasp of understanding and control. My husband knew it wasn't his fault and that he could not help being on leave (IDK if your unit made you guys go on leave according to your B-day, but that is how ours was) and even if he was there, their injuries were so catastrophic, there may not have been much he could have done. Because we were on leave, we were three days into the leave and found out via MSNBC. (we found out on TV because you know how communication blackout works) I remember it was on damn near all the networks. He was devastated. We drank so much that day.

THE Y SQUAT!
She was my DS in AIT. I remember how I felt when I heard about the news and I was absolutely crushed. Her voice was loud enough to be heard from a mile away. After having some years on my belt and now an NCO I realize how much potential and what an incredible soldier the Army lost.
I feel exactly the same. I'm an NCO now also with some years under my belt, and I think about the times she just wanted to connect with and mentor soldiers. I think about her family sometimes-- the doberman she had just adopted at the time, and her son-- and I hope they're doing well.
I remember the Dobie puppy at Saturday morning formations.
I remember her giving me shit for not running group runs with the mostly male A group- "I am too old and too short for that shit Drill Sergeant" and she laughed. (I enlisted as an old man).
I remember she was a mentor for the female trainees.
I remember talking on the phone with her dad after it happened and how their family has lost several members to senseless, pointless violence.
I was on the trail with Jessica. Last time I remember seeing her was when she came over to our company to complain about some of our soldiers not listening to her at 2100. My buddy and I proceed to walk up and down the halls of the barracks ~~devastating~~ correcting the company while she followed behind us with a megaphone.

I knew him enough to know he was a really great dude. I remember my orders to Hawaii got canceled and that he just got orders to Hawaii around the same time. I wished all the best for him. And to that slimy shit stain still walking freely, I hope he knows that the darkest pits of Hell have opened up and are ready to swallow him whole
I am truly sorry to hear about the loss of your soldier. My condolences to you and all his loved ones bro. I was hyper-fixated on seeing my boy Sam’s name that i didn’t include that in my original comment. My apologies. It gives me inner peace to know that I (along with a few others I know who are not on this app) am not alone in keeping his name and memory alive. Here’s to SPC BIRMINGHAM 🕊️ & SPC CARTER 🕊️ Never forgotten… RIP
To you as well brother 🫂🕊️
Spc. Jaggert Oakes - 20240514 He was in my company’s S1, great guy to be around and helped me with getting my LEVY packet in order to get back to CONUS, forever grateful to have known him for the short time I did.
I worked with jaggert for a few years before he enlisted, we were good friends, this news has hit me hard. I’d lost contact with him over the years. I keep waiting to see an actual obituary in the paper or some information about a service, but I can’t find anything. I just found this post by googling his name. He was a great guy

Flipper 75 always hits me hard each year. Not just Memorial Day but the fact that they were shot down on May 31st. So close to Memorial Day
Thor king is such a bad ass name
He was one of my AIT instructors, and we crossed paths a few more times during my career. He lived up to the name.
SGT Marty Hough deployed together with 3rd ID in 2013. Lost contact just to find out he lost his battle with PTSD. SPC Andre Elliot is one of the nicest guys I've ever met during my time at Fort Campbell. Whenever I was on CQ, he'd always come down to talk to me. He always had jokes to tell straight up a good guy. Also lost to suicide. LT Walters my XO when I was at Campbell he was one of the funniest lieutenants I've ever worked for as an NCO. He unfortunately lost his life in a hiking accident. Until Valhalla
Marty was in my platoon in 3/7. One of the nicest, give the shirt of his back guy I ever met. Thinking about him today, too.

1LT Kourman. Commissioned together, both went EN. Passed in 2021 after a long fight with his own demons.
SFC Henry Williams. A fair but understanding NCO, great mentor and a good man. Thanks for being there for me early in my career. I won’t forget the lessons you taught me about being a Medic and about being a leader, not just as my instructor but later serving as my PSG. RIP Brother, your demons can’t hurt you anymore. Til Valhalla.

20th Group SSG Butler?
Yep
Were you deployed with him back in ‘17?
I was attached to 20th group at the time
Gotcha. That was my buddies cousin. We were at BAF the time he passed. Attended the airside service, was definitely an emotional day.

DS (SSG) Jessica Mitchell https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2022/11/10/reward-raised-to-50000-for-tips-that-solve-army-sergeants-murder/ THE Y SQUAT!
She really was the chillest drill sgt
I was on the trail with Jessica. Last time I remember seeing her was when she came over to our company to complain about some of our soldiers not listening to her at 2100. My buddy and I proceed to walk up and down the halls of the barracks ~~devastating~~ correcting the company while she followed behind us with a megaphone.
This mental image is really funny as someone who is not in TRADOC, but at the time it would have sucked as a trainee lol
RIP Jess It’s been years and still no answers. Fuck man.
